Thanks guys, you ve really made up the mind for me 🙂. Just one question, I did check with Fanatec support and it seems that CSL DD is compatible with both CSL DD table clamp and the club sport table clamp as well. Which one you guys would prefer? Even though it seems sturdy, I have my doubts about that 30 dollar piece of plastic vs the more sturdier 100$ Clubsport one? Any thoughts pls? I am also worried about the flex
We haven’t tried the CSW table clamp but it would be much more of a pain to take on and off the base itself so I’d say go with the one designed for the CSL DD. It’s absolutely fine assuming the table itself is solid.
@@boostedmedia hello !!!, after all congrats for this awesome video, it is fully complex, thanks !!!... I have a great doubt, if I used the 8nw limiter in the dd2 it would have the same result / experience that this base with the power adapter and 8nw?, I have a dd2 and a friend of mine would like to buy this new one, but we would like to try how it works before buy it so maybe 8nw it is not force enough... again, thank you very much !!!
Any idea on its stock for Australia? Just checked and it's preorder delayed till Dec 21, was Nov 2 weeks ago, how reliable are fanatec in delivering to their preorder dates?
Dude, you get so in depth. I go through so many videos to influence my purchases. I hate wasting money. You give the friggin, nitty-gritty deep stuff that I would question once I already have the item. I know what I need and don't need, based on your quality reviews, to use whatever products you're discussing. I can pre plan my purchases and not be sitting here wishing I knew this or that because you already cover and answer those questions. Thanks so much.
@boostedmedia ,it must be your birthday again about now? So Happy birthday, or Happy belated birthday man. Like Rick said, you do cover products very well, so as to give a well informed choice! So i have just ordered a DD Pro straight from Fanatec, cos there is people now scalping on them (used,2nd hand) for twice the price 'and some', on EB... I like your videos and am subscribed from UK man. Keep up the hard 'time consuming' work!! Sweet 👍🖖😊
I know a lot of people said it before but honestly, great reviews, appreciate the time you take to do them. Ill be jumping from t300 to a csl DD but watching many of your reviews the DD1 and/or DD2 look interesting. Will try the csl DD. After watching your videos, I have to say the transition to a DD looks a bit hectic for me mainly for the proper configuration of the wheel base. Would love to see you doing an intro of setting up a CSL DD for all of us new to DD’s or if you have a Q & A podcast lol. Appreciate what you are doing and thanks for the nice explanations. All the best.
For anyone having issues with the CSL DD (I assume this is the same for the CSL DD PRO) * Not being able to calibrate the H-pattern mode of the SQ 1.5 shifter: (1) Try with the short cable provided with the shifter. (2) If unsuccessful, unmount the wheel base, hold it tightly between your legs and try with short cable. ** Wheelbase or steering wheel disconnects in driver page or FFB/buttons/pedals quit working in-game: - on pc - (1) Connect the wheelbase with a wheel mounted and turn it on. (2) Open the driver page. (3) If everything seems connected, tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists (4) If the issue persists or something shows to be disconnected: Loosen the black C -clamp on the wheelbase shaft till you can rotate it slightly without too much effort. (5) Rotate the clamp gently till the driver page shows everything connected (6) Tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists I've had both issues, where the disconnection issues got worse and worse till the both of my wheels showed disconnected permanently. And after a month of trying drivers/firmware/usb-ports etc. these solutions solved my issues. *** On my initial fresh install of my CSL DD with Boost kit, the FFB was very weak. This was resolved quickly for me by uninstalling and re-installing the drivers again.
Hi sorry if i missed something but did you ever make the video where you show your CSL DD settings for the big sims? Thanks for the advice on everything you've been a real help.
Hi Will 10:38 when You connect wheel, i belive that on right hand side You have kind of grey icons and You can scroll down to choose Your actual wheel.I might be wrong but same is on fanalabs
@Garry Busey Garry buy it! Only thing with reviews I've read is ignore any worries about lesser rigs shaking. I have Playseat Challenge and wheel is fine (using 5nm). 8nm will be fine and I will be getting it. I didn't see the point saving $20 to get straight away. Better getting both and having a spare. Mclaren GT3 Wheel is awesome too!
that wheel with the medal QR is beautiful. its exactly what i want in a wheel. small, metal, and it looks fantastic. feel free to send one on down my way! ;) lol keep up the awesome videos man. i love watching them
As always great stuff. I will be entering the world of sim racing. Deciding between the portable f1-gt lite or something more stationary. Although with little ones portability makes most sense. Your video helps a ton, I will look into your settings once I get it all set up. Thank you
You'll quickly find that you've attached so much stuff to your portable rig that it's not so portable any more lol. I recommend going with an 80/20 rig off the bat. (I used a Playseat Challenge for 6 months)
@@taylorwilliamm I appreciate it. With the height of my monitors in the office, the challenge sat wayyy too low. So I just went with a GT Omega Wheelstand. Which is much sturdier than the challenge and I can fold out of the way so I don't bother the misses.
I'd love to see a video where you attempt to DIY a Boost Kit 180. There's no way the power supply is actually worth anywhere near AUD $260, there must be a simpler way around it. The $600 CSL DD with a like $50 power supply would be brilliant.
I won’t be doing a video as I don’t want to encourage people to void their warranty. But it’s theoretically very simple. The thing is a quality power supply is still $100AUD or so. Cheap power supply introduce all kinds of other issues which could damage the base.
How does it know it has a better power supply fitted? Knowing Fanatec it probably has some type of proprietary handshake, similar to some laptop supplies.
For me the retention screw seems to reduce a lot of the noise from the black collar on the quick release. You'll still get some noise (usually from a hard crash into a wall or off the path in Dirt Rally) but before I installed the screw it was almost every time you touched the curb in ACC or half the time normally driving in Dirt Rally. Fanatec could probably completely stop that noise if they put a stronger spring, that compresses the black collar, on the quick release.
Thanks for this amazing insight, I really hope Fanatec will improve the software and maybe merge it all with Fanalab... I do not understand why they separate it.
They should give a 2nd option in the collar length. This one Good for monitor behind the wheel and one 3cm shorter for monitor behind the base. If you run largeish triples this base notionally is great for dropping them just behind as the motor is short, but that advantage is wasted with a long collar.
I perceive the topic of rotating mass/inertia as fancy marketing (and as such, nonsense). It would make sense if the rim was free to spin but under normal conditions, the rim isn’t free spinning because it’s being held firmly in your hands. It means the FFB is felt by the resistance of your hands & arms. I could understand this argument if max torque were at Logitech levels. Moment of inertia is the engineering/physics term. The DD CSL has ample torque, even for rims with high moments of inertia (layman wording; heavy).
Wish the boosted power hit 12nm to set it more apart from the other bases, but guess I’ll have to deal with 8nm. Can’t really beat the value for the price.
We need to see the comparison to the Sim Magic Alpha mini from you will. I don’t think anyone should get the CSL DD until we’ve seen your in-depth review and comparison of them both.
Great vid as usua. Can you give a quick update on when the detailed setting vid will come out for iracing. We are all starting to receive our dad's now. Thanks
lol well I don't NEED the metal QR1 for my CSL DD + McLaren v2... but I got it anyway because taking the wheel off to get in my rig just feels so so so much more real :)
Please release use footage without the music in the background. I want to get one of these but I want to know how much quieter it is over my current 2.5 before I order one. The thumping bass line makes it impossible to hear that.
Anyone buying this check prices carefully. If you like Pagnian, really check the price, they add a significant markup, much much more than 'free' shipping. Also, It is much better value to get the Base DD and the Boost kit separately than getting the 8nm bundle. The base price plus boost costs 858. For which you get both the 5nm and 8nm power supplies. The 8nm price is 829, so for only 29 dollars less you miss out on a whole other power supply, the 5nm one, worth hundred of dollars. It is a huge rip off on top of an a already expensive power supply. Pagnian charges 999 dollars for the same thing, so be careful with them too. I wish Will and other reviewers had made this clearer.

Can you make a update video on how to set up the hue ambient lighting since they updated the app. And i think they might have added a couple of new features although i am not sure. 😅
The flex was not noticeable when driving with my DD1, but when I switched to SC2, DAMN, I love the rock solid zero flex what so ever situation now, and defo would not want to go back to the fanaflex
Hi, I am new here I just bought CSL DD and I need the guide for set up wheel for WRC and for DIRT 2.0, so please if you can give any suggestion will be good.
Great vid Will😀👍, is Tom still using the B.J. simracing hydraulic pedals? Would love to see a review of the B.J. Sequential shifter with the pedals strictly for Supercars/iRacing🙏👍
Hola desde España..muchas gracias por toda su información...pero si tiene solo 1 minuto...quiero dar el paso a direct drive,,,cual me aconseja fanatec csl dd o alpha mini.....muchas gracias.
I want to start in this world of sim racing, as a sim racer do you recommend this base? Obviously I will go for the 8NM version but is this enough? I mean the difference between this and the DD1 and DD2 is justified for the extra money that you need to spend? Thanks for your video, really helpful!
I also want to know this. From my understanding pedals are more important for being fast. But more TQ from the wheel is more immersive. I’m also looking into getting into sim racing. I like how all the Fanatec stuff just works together it’s why I choose Apple as well.
Nice work. I not long (May) invested in the Clubsport V2.5 wheel base. Is the CSL DD a replacement for it? Or don’t waste your money? The benefits will not outweigh the cost ? Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
@@boostedmedia Thanks Sorry I did not see that video. I just wanted to hear what you’re thoughts where since this is the production model. Gamer Muscle said he thought it was a replacement.
Great review, just one small gripe. When you're talking about settings you say a couple times that the 'multi-position switch function' controls the analogue paddles on the back of the wheel. Wouldn't that be for the multi-position/rotary encoders on the front? As in switching from multi-position switches to rotary encoders for the games that don't support multi-position constant input signals.
@@dankrazmo8631 ahh yep you're right. Sorry we were talking about two different things. Correct. The MPS setting in the tuning menu adjusts the pulse mode of the left and right MPS. Brain fart. We'll cover this in more detail when we go through all the tuning options and what they do in a later video. has also been covered in our Fanatec settings explained video.
one question: why nobody mentions that csl dd and xbox licensed wheels are not fully compatible with all the titles...So that many buttons on the wheel are useless on ACC for example
Great video! Adds to the temptation to upgrade my G27 to this wheel(base). Does the Fanatec WRC wheel work with the boost pack, given the remark on the Fanatec website "*High Torque Mode is NOT accessible on Podium wheel bases using this wheel, even when using the ClubSport Quick Release Adapter. "? I assume the 8 Nm isn't by far in the same league as the Podium high torque? And do you know what this remark means, especially for the combination CSL DD & WRC wheel? "If you select the QR1 Wheel-Side (ClubSport Quick Release Adapter) with this product, the QR1 Lite Wheel-Side will not be included." Thanks!!
Hi Will Not sure if you can help, but got he DD after watching your video, really really helpful. I race a lot on ACC and am really struggling with the settings. I can get some force feedback but no road details at all please help!
Thank you for taking the time to read and reply. I had watched this and have tried a few things within ACC and still nothing, having set the wheel up in other Sims I can narrow it down to the game but still have no road details at all
So....if you can go from 90W power supply to 180W power supply, what is stopping you from sticking a 240W power supply on it ? In another review the guy says it barely gets warm even with the 180W on it !!!
about those quick clickers on the steering wheel. if you buy a fanatec steering wheel. Is it included or do you have to buy it separately? Best regards
Hey Will, it’s a little off topic but do you think the McLaren GT3 is a good size for the Porsche Cup Car or should I get something slightly larger in diameter?
I have a same case (but G27 instead of G25). And I choosed Formula v2.5/McLaren GT3 v2 and BMW GT2 v2. Also ClubSport Steering Wheel RS is good too, but I want alcantara. That's why BMW is my choice. McLaren has a larger diameter but Formula has more buttons and premium materials and two vibration motors (and it costs more expensive). And I dont know what to choose.
Paolo the csl Mclaren and WRC wheels are all you will ever need and the new glass re-enforced qr are fantastic I use these two on my csw 2.5 much better feedback than the heavier rims in the range. The only thing I would recommend is magnetic shifter mod for wrc wheel. I got mine from Sim racing Addict awesome upgrade and reasonably priced.

Yep he’s still running them. We have the handbrake and shifter here to review. Coming soon :)

Hola desde España..muchas gracias por toda su información...pero si tiene solo 1 minuto...quiero dar el paso a direct drive,,,cual me aconseja fanatec csl dd o alpha mini.....muchas gracias.
Hi Boosted Media, Can you test CSL Elite Pedals plus LC with CSL DD Base?
I want to start in this world of sim racing, as a sim racer do you recommend this base? Obviously I will go for the 8NM version but is this enough? I mean the difference between this and the DD1 and DD2 is justified for the extra money that you need to spend? Thanks for your video, really helpful!
I also want to know this. From my understanding pedals are more important for being fast. But more TQ from the wheel is more immersive. I’m also looking into getting into sim racing. I like how all the Fanatec stuff just works together it’s why I choose Apple as well.
Can you review the new alpha mini?

Nice work. I not long (May) invested in the Clubsport V2.5 wheel base. Is the CSL DD a replacement for it? Or don’t waste your money? The benefits will not outweigh the cost ?
Thanks for sharing
👍🏻👍🏻🙃🙃
We have a video on that here:

Thanks Sorry I did not see that video.
I just wanted to hear what you’re thoughts where since this is the production model. Gamer Muscle said he thought it was a replacement.
Another great video, quick question, can anyone tell me if you can front or side mount the csl dd or is it base only??
Great review, just one small gripe. When you're talking about settings you say a couple times that the 'multi-position switch function' controls the analogue paddles on the back of the wheel. Wouldn't that be for the multi-position/rotary encoders on the front? As in switching from multi-position switches to rotary encoders for the games that don't support multi-position constant input signals.
No the centre multi position switch controls the function of the analogue paddles if you have the advanced paddle module.
@@boostedmedia Yes that's what i'm saying. At 17:48 I believe you made a mistake, just trying to let you know
@@dankrazmo8631 ahh yep you're right.
"If you select the QR1 Wheel-Side (ClubSport Quick Release Adapter) with this product, the QR1 Lite Wheel-Side will not be included."
Thanks!!
Great review! Will I be able to get the firmware update plugged into my series x and not using pc?
You need Windows PC.
@@1027hristo ok thanks
Hi Will Not sure if you can help, but got he DD after watching your video, really really helpful. I race a lot on ACC and am really struggling with the settings. I can get some force feedback but no road details at all please help!
Check our Fanatec settings explained video. :)
Thank you for taking the time to read and reply. I had watched this and have tried a few things within ACC and still nothing, having set the wheel up in other Sims I can narrow it down to the game but still have no road details at all
Just to update on this I ended up deleting the ACC file in my documents which has restored all the features and all works fine now
Question is it worth spending a grand to upgrade to this wheel from a g923?
Would you say this is better then the clubmen 2.5
So....if you can go from 90W power supply to 180W power supply, what is stopping you from sticking a 240W power supply on it ? In another review the guy says it barely gets warm even with the 180W on it !!!
It will miraculously grow into a CS DD+
about those quick clickers on the steering wheel. if you buy a fanatec steering wheel. Is it included or do you have to buy it separately? Best regards
Have you gotten hands on the Moza R9 to test and review ?
Do you need the wheel property app or just the fanalab is enough?
Ayo. I do gokarting realife and im buying the dd but should i get 5 or 8nm? And wich wheel should i get for gokarting sim:) ?
Is it worth upgrading from a csw 2.5?
Will they release a ps version and love your vids keep it up and is it good for drifting cuz I do drift in assetto corsa
Hi question:
Would you recommend this wheel base over the thrustmaster ts xw wheel base
The Thrustmaster can't compete with a Direct Drive. Any Direct Drive wheel will be far superior to a belt driven wheel.
The TS XW isn’t even in the same ballpark. Not even close.
DD doesn’t automatically mean better than belt driven. It’s all in the implementation.
Hell yes
Any news to the playstation version? I'm waiting to be able to drive on both consoles.
Do you have a settings list or file to import that we can use for your settings?
pls add settings base for dirt rally 2.0 :)
7:14 - 7:29 does this still apply if you intend to use the 8nm boost kit, or do you need the metal quick release with the boost kit?
Dammmm!
Quick question is that version of fanalab with the new features available now or no ?
I want a rig tour
Would be cool if you made a short video with the table-clamp, just to see how much it flexes in real use.
As unrealistic a table mounted DD is, I would also love to see that 😂
We did months ago.
@@boostedmedia is it the same clamp then? and does it flex considerably?
Hey Will, it’s a little off topic but do you think the McLaren GT3 is a good size for the Porsche Cup Car or should I get something slightly larger in diameter?
Thanks for the video.
I have preordered the unit with the boost kit but it's my first Fanatec and I use G25.
Which wheel would You recommend?
I have a same case (but G27 instead of G25). And I choosed Formula v2.5/McLaren GT3 v2 and BMW GT2 v2. Also ClubSport Steering Wheel RS is good too, but I want alcantara. That's why BMW is my choice.
McLaren has a larger diameter but Formula has more buttons and premium materials and two vibration motors (and it costs more expensive). And I dont know what to choose.
@@Dryrussian thanks

@@boostedmedia so kind of You, cheers from Italy
Paolo the csl Mclaren and WRC wheels are all you will ever need and the new glass re-enforced qr are fantastic
I use these two on my csw 2.5 much better feedback than the heavier rims in the range.
The only thing I would recommend is magnetic shifter mod for wrc wheel.
I got mine from Sim racing Addict awesome upgrade and reasonably priced.
