Me three. I love holding a book while reading, it’s part of the reading experience, bringing me closer to the written word. Thank you for this wonderful report, very enjoyable. Wish I was closer, I’d go visit.
I was a professional bookdealer in the UK for 35 years. I was asked by the owner of a bookshop in the town where I was a regular customer if I would like to work part time to allow him to go to book auctions on certain days. Although I was a committed reader ( as I still am even in retirement) I knew nothing of the secondhand book trade, but spent time when the shop was quiet in rummaging through his back room of discards ,the ones that were not saleable . When I opened my own shop some years later ,I knew what NOT to spend good money on, which was a marvellous start . After a time my husband left regular work to attend auctions and specialised in Antiquarian book, along side my general stock .
Nothing compares to reading a book, the actual physical touch and turn of pages is irreplaceable ,kindall and all that computerized stuff ,not the same ,it’s cold ,nothing left when you finish reading, nothing to put back on the shelf ,what a beautiful place to live,Hobart should be !
Hi came to love books & reading during the Pandemic and escaping into other worlds through books made Covid easier to get through ,so love books alot ,
Although I do have a Kindle --- there are some books that are mandatory to have in physical form. The Kindle has its advantages but in physical form -- there is a comfort and solace that my Kindle would never be able to replicate. I know that some of my books are on the Kindle for a reason but others are a must for physical form. I also have ADD (passive) so I know what I want on a Kindle because it helps me with the print size and concentrating and others I just take longer to read in physical form and that's fine with me.
This is my type of town! I own close to 2000 books: cozy mysteries, cookbooks, history books, autobiographies, children's books, you name it. I have a dream to use my books as a tiny library in my home so people can wander and, possibly, try reading a genre they haven't read before. To introduce children to a love of books would be glorious!
I want nothing to do with Kindles or Nooks. I got a Nook from someone, I had no inclination or patience to set it up. The books are a little cheaper to read off of these things, I would always rather have an actual book!!!
And this is WHY I love this show. If I would live an unrestricted life, I would be traveling to visit this special town tomorrow. This article reminded me of Bill Geist..
at 1:45 in the window the purplish books are some of my favorite in existence. The Oxford Illustrated editions of Dickens. Reading David Copperfield in that edition was probably the great reading experience of my life.
I always loved walking into the Strand Book Store ini the city and just browsing around for hours or the small independent book stores along lower Broadway...Real books will always be a favorite of mine....especially hardbound books.
Try to read a book that isn’t a ton of pages, I bet you can do it. And you have to find something that is truly interesting, and make time for reading it where you won’t have constant interruptions. I used to love to read but I also have serious problems with insomnia. Sometimes I’ll try to read 2 books simultaneously, when one gets a little dull, switch to the other one for awhile.
The annoying thing about this town is that it is mostly older collectable used books not a lot of the kind of places where you show up with 3 grocery bags full to turn in and you leave with 1.
Books are made of stories and human experiences, they give us the best inspirations above all. Each time I feel down, helpless and done, I get one of my old books to read something I already know by heart and I forget any frustration. Bad books don't exist, if you read something annoying it means, you can become a better writer... therefore go for it guys. Sharing experiences of life is always worthy. When I look back in time...gives me creeps how many books sit there in a kid's brain, it's crazy. The very first book was.. Snow White and Cinderella, anyone could ever forget those who became the best cartoons above all? Most people love movies but every movie has a script, a book behind, a story, somebody who wanted to write something for the others. Who could ever forget Aladdin's magic lamp? Still today, holding a secret weapon is... the biggest ambition above all. It happened so often, watching a movie and then, seeking for the book, the famous Count of Monte Cristo, the Dumas language seduce you for good. Balzac is someone you could read for centuries and never get tired of his stories like Dostoevskij or the Polish Sienkiewicz the one that wrote Quo Vadis? The movie based on his novel won a big pile of Oscars..never give up reading guys. The War Of The Worlds, I was twelve years old and I believed in Martians invasion. At night I used to wake up watching the sky if I can see suspect red lights of Martians space shuttles😂😂😂😅😅😅 the Captain Cook journey diaries instead changed my life for good. Since I was ten years or so, the biggest dream of mine was traveling world wide and it did not change for a bit. Web connection is nothing but a Cpt. Cook 's explorer adventure. You try to put on paper the names of all books you recall..to realize how human brain looks like a library filled of..so many books, it's really scary guys😢😢😢
Hi. Great piece! I’m a published author with Hatherleigh Press. They are located in Hobart. I’ve spent many days there working on books. It would be nice to give them a shout out in your social.
I don’t understand what is happening to this world now. There’s hardly anywhere to buy new books unless you use Amazon, and then besides the cost of the book you are paying for shipping too. Book prices have become so high. People are going to libraries to use computers, without too much interest in any of the books. I hate this trend, I’ve seen talk that colleges want to use electronic textbooks instead of regular textbooks, are we all just looking at Google rather than reading a book to find out anything????
Some books are expensive because they are first editions, autographed by the author, or limited edition hardcovers, etc. Most often, you can find cheaper editions of a desired pricier book (such as softcoovers and mass market paperbacks) in the used book stores or online (e.g.; AbeBooks, Amazon, etc.). Book buying tip: Local libraries often have an annual book sale where you can find wonderful books for very fair prices. It's a win-win... the money from the sale supports the library, and readers go home with their found treasures. Happy Book Hunting! 🙂📚
I want to visit Hobart. I like to read. I read books of any subject. I just read Future Tense. It is a book about the positive and negative implications of artificial intelligence.
"A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down and commence living at its hint. What I began by reading, I must finish by acting."
Another long dying white town. In 1980's, someone thought it was a great ideal to park an Urban Youth Rehab Center in the next town over. Crimes, and Rape came to this town, and people moved away. But everyone said it was working, even if there was 100% relapses. once the criminals got back to the city. They were clean when they left! They cried.
LOVE the feel of a book in my hands
And the smell of an old book!
Me, too. Nothing against audio books; I like them, too. But I love having physical books.

I hope this video reaches all the right audence and they get a surge of visitors to buy their books and continue this

If a home has a cat it most likely has books. They seem to go together.
They do, and I love reading most evenings with my precious cat Buddy curled up near me.
Sooooo Wonderful😊 I think this is a room in Heaven❤

There's no better way to spend an afternoon than searching through a well-stocked used book store.
God bless indie book writers! ❤🎉
Right, because all the others don't matter.
Cool. I'll visit someday
64 years old and never read a book from front to back. ADD. Wish I could

Wonderful to watch this story, but some books are $385+ (4:43). Too bad book lovers of all classes can’t take home it all.

Don't let MAGA book banners anywhere near this place.
Since the totalitarian dictators that burned books in the thirties and forties were all leftists, I think we should be more cautious of Democrats.
