I love what the bird rescue woman said - the reason people don't like pigeons is that they haven't bothered to pay attention to them. Nature/biological diversity is one of the few things (music is the other one that comes to mind) that makes life so beautiful.
I drop little handfuls of pigeon food on the ground on my way to get my lunch a couple of days a week here in Auckland. The pigeons really appreciate it!
Beautiful comment ! I was introduced to pigeons through this book - Pigeonholed by Josie Lynn. As a result this segment resonated with me in a very profound and delightful way. The problem lies in how people view these beautiful creatures-either as a nuisance or a convenience. But pigeons, like all animals, do not exist for us. Regardless of our opinions, they deserve fundamental respect. Whether admired or not, we must simply coexist with and respect them.

I think that the way a person feels about pigeons says a lot about that person. I live in Great Falls, Montana and rescued and injured pigeon from a downtown sidewalk 10 years ago. Her name is " Baby" and she is one of the family, even rules the roost with the dogs and cat she shares the house and yard with. I am the apple of her eye and she wants to be near me always , even snuggles and coos for affection. About once a month she climbs to a high cabinet and on top of it she has made a nest with straight dry spaghetti sticks and lays 2 eggs that she sits on 23 hours a day for 2 weeks , then discovers they don't hatch ( sterile eggs of course ) and then pesters me because of this. 0:06I love pigeons. They are beautiful, have saved lives, and one of my fondest memories was feeding the at Trafalgar Square, as a child growing up in England. I had to say that, before my TBI wiped it from my mind!

They are very sweet (as long as you don't try and take an egg away 😅)

There was a single Red Pigeon in the midst of the mass of gray black pigeons I would watch for at the transfer hub during my work commute. Beautiful bird.
Pigeons actually make better pets than most tropical birds you see in any pet store. They're quiet, they're clean, extremely smart, affectionate, they're easily trainable and low maintenance. People seem to forget how much we used to rely on pigeons, how much we have bred them for messaging purposes. There's a reason why they're so accustomed to people, we originally bred them for that purpose.
Finally -- the noble pigeon gets some respect. Thanks, CBS!

My dad used these pigeons in air force, behind enemy lines. While he jumped behind enemy lines to see if any damaged equipment was worth going back to rescue for US scrap metal.
I love pigeons so much. Unfortunately, they've gotten a bad rep. But they are very intelligent and compassionate even! Thank you to all the pigeons! ❤❤❤
0:06I love pigeons. They are beautiful, have saved lives, and one of my fondest memories was feeding the at Trafalgar Square, as a child growing up in England. There was a carrier pigeon in WWII that got shot, but still brought the message home. I believe she lost a leg, was blinded, but still rose to, and above, the occasion. Sorry! I had to say that, before my TBI wiped it from my mind!
You're thinking of Cher Ami, I believe! :)
@@charliesmart3008 Yes! You saying the name brought it all back to me! Do you remember the dog Judy, who ended up as a prisoner of war in WWII? We really don't deserve animals, really! Cheers.
Am I the only one thinking "What would happen if they left the window open?"
Seeing the care and genuine love exhibited by Jeffrey Jones, who brought the pigeon into his home, reassures me that the human species is worth saving.
Are we though?
@@sicknado I can understand your uncertainty on this matter. Really. I see plenty of indications otherwise. Yet, every now and then someone like Jeffrey Jones comes along and we remember we are not alone among a race of mutton heads.

Doves are pigeons with a better PR agent.
Except doves are really stupid.
lol

What an informative, interesting, and charming segment! Thank you! Pigeons are there but they’re not, but they are! 💕
I rescued a pigeon a few years ago and now we’re BFFs ❤ They are truly underestimated. Thank you for this video.
magnificent tribute
I read a wonderful tribute to pigeons awhile ago. It’s a book called Pigeonholed by Josie Lynn available on Amazon. It’s written for adolescents but speaks also to adults. She captures the essence of pigeons but deals with the tendency for people to pigeonhole (especially pigeons). The characters are all pigeons (and other birds). I read it awhile ago but when I saw this segment, I smiled with delight. How the pigeons unite to counterattack makes a fascinating read.
@@SRowan-fr1nl TU a lot for the tip!!!
What an amazing story!
So excited and happy about this!
Great to see all these positive comments on pigeons. We need a pigeon emoji (hint hint)
The pigeons hang out in my yard sometimes only two or three.. but when bad weather is coming many sit lined up on telephone wires along a Main Street huddling together.
They seem peaceful, curious and gentle.
When I was a kid in the Philippines my first pet was a pigeon and I took care of them and raced them with friends, I have very fond memories of pigeon.
Ah, the national bird of NYC.
Thank you for this.
This couple is so wonderful! Pigeons are misunderstood!
Love the idea of pigeons as "gateway birds".
I’m betting $500 that it becomes the spot where the pigeons go to poop.
All animals are our friends, we just forgot how to treat them. Pigeons are beautiful
My neighbors were so poor they would catch pigeons and feed their family I was a child and that would freak me out when I spent time at their house
Why am I watching this at 2:30am on a school night?
I wanted to see how the pigeons & other birds reacted to the 17’ pigeon.
I've raised pigeons for the last 2 years now and take them for walks on their leashes sometimes. They are very smart and underrated pets. I never understood why they got a bad wrap, even before I started raising them myself. I even have a tattoo of a pigeon on my left arm now. They are very sweet (as long as you don't try and take an egg away 😅)
so happy to see this piece. i've learned they are amazing sweet smart animals. i have 4 pigeons who come around almost every day they take turns landing on my arm or shoulder and we go for walk. very often folks stop and take a picture all say they'd never seen this before
thank you for this video. It warms my heart
Wonderful! Bless our little pigeon friends everywhere 🤍🕊️

@@SRowan-fr1nl Thank you so much. I will definitely have a look 😊
There was a single Red Pigeon in the midst of the mass of gray black pigeons I would watch for at the transfer hub during my work commute. Beautiful bird.
A pigeon once pooped on my head but I still love them!
That happened to me too. It was gorgeous!
Feeders make a happy life for my neighborhood birds, cats and wife.
Peregrines love them too.
I love this
Yes!! Thank You for hiring Mr.Cooper to the Sunday Morning roster of reporters!!
