Both James’s and Carly’s music give me such comfort. Remembering a different time growing up in the late 70s/early 80s. In my opinion one of the best eras of music.

I really love Carly Simon's music and her as a person also. Thirty years ago I had a friend named Jimmy who was the hairdresser for Mary Lou Retton in Houston. He was in the last stages of AIDS right before he died and Mary Lou Retton knew he was avid fan of Carly Simon so she called her and asked he she would meet Jimmy for lunch. She said yes and Jimmy flew up and had lunch with her before he passed away. It made me love her even more to see her do such a kind thing for my dying friend!

She is such a sweetie. I was working at TriStar Pictures when Working Girl came out. She was on the phone, calling for my boss and I just happened to mention to her what a great theme song she had written. She was truly surprised at receiving my compliment of how wonderful a song it was--that it was an anthem. She was so sincere and humble, truly taken aback that I loved the song so much. I'll never forget that interaction with her. She's a beautiful woman.

I met Carly Simon -- and she is a genuine person. My friend and I were on Central Park West and I saw Carly a block up and I told him that is Carly Simon. My friend was a tall nice looking guy and he suddenly started yelling CARLY at the top of his lungs. And she turned around -- we both laughed and he YELLED her Name again and she waved her hand for us to come over to her. And I said "what do we do" -- he said nothing and started to wave her at her to come to us and she started walking towards us. And when she got to us she said "I don't KNOW YOU" -- we both worked summers on Nantucket and she is totally Martha's Vineyard, but she did come over to Nantucket -- and I remember he just told her he remembered hearing her sing at a bar Nantucket and he said it was great. She was very nice.

That's not respectful. That's full of connotation as if he's making a point that it's the only reason she's still in his life, or that it's the only means of identity he applies to her, that she's not a person deserving of mention by name. I watched a different interview she gave in her home in the Hamptons and she gave more detail about her current day relationship with Taylor. Although she was trying to be diplomatic, the picture she painted of him was a man-child who was deeply jealous of her success and still held a personal grudge for her having left him. I think his man-child behavior has been something she has had to manage delicately for many years for the sake of her children. She really impressed me. In this context, you will understand why I consider his constant reference to her only as "the mother of my children" would certainly not be seen as "respectful". ❤

@trixiegirlism I agree with you, especially because James Taylor has moved on, remarrying and having twins with his current wife. I was surprised to hear that James does not visit the island where Carly and Ben live (I'm assuming Martha's Vineyard?), but chooses to leave that territory to his ex-wife and son. It is natural (and even heartwarming) to hear Carly say that she still loves James, the father of her children, Sally and Ben, but it seems much deeper than that when I heard her admission in this interview. I understand that she is still very close to Livingston Taylor, James' brother, and that the feeling is mutual. I had forgotten that Carly Simon had written her memoir in 2015, and I plan to listen to it on Audible. She also wrote a second memoir in 2019 about her friendship with Jackie Kennedy Onassis that sounds interesting and something I also plan to check out.

I'm standing there talking to another guy I worked with and I see a woman walking down the street(in the street) from a distance. Not really paying her much attention. She finally made it down to where we were talking and we both had to do a double-take. It was Carly Simon walking with a camera on a sling around her neck. Obviously just sight seeing the Mt Adams area. I think she may have been in town on tour. We were stunned and even more stunned because it was just her. No entourage, no bodyguards. Nothing, just her walking down the street. My coworker and I didn't have the nerve to say anything and frankly I don't like hounding people for autographs. That's cringey to me. It's wise to stay away from those who use any type of substance. They are hurting themselves, so if they can hurt themselves, they also can hurt you. Any type of abuse to themselves or to others should not be tolerated.
