Simeon Birnbaum Wins Record Breaking 3200m Race at Arcadia Invite

- South Dakotan Simeon Birnbaum continues his record setting season winning the Arcadia Invite boys 3200m in a meet all-time best 8:34.10, breaking the year old record set by Colin Sahlman.
2nd and 3rd place finishers, Daniel Simmons and Rocky Hansen, also got under the old record running 8:34.14 and 8:34.78. Connor Burns was 4th in 8:41.67.

HIMeon birnbaum looked so composed the entire time, that kick was earth shaking
he ran it smart and kept a person in front og him the whole time as a windbreaker 😆😆😆😆
The last finisher in 9:30........even that is screaming! This is an amazing race every year......wish they would change it to 2 miles.....but, hey......I'll take it at 3200m. Well done to all.
last place finisher last year was 9:06 so no it is pretty bad for the calibur of athletes at this race. i think this year there was really only that sub 8:50s pack and you were either part of it or not. If you were not, you were pretty much stuck in no man's land, watching the race a half lap ahead of your and getting distracted and unfocused.

German’s 4 flat 1600m, 8:34 3200 an hour later in daytime Sacramento heat in June with no real competition still has to be a more impressive performance
German best HS runner ever....too bad injuries at OK ST ruined his career
@@dontlookback3549 Ritzenhein is considered the best prep runner by many of the so-called experts on the matter. Personally, I think SINCE the year 2000, Ritzenhein is the best CC runner, but German the best on the track. With that said, Ritzenehin did run a 13:44 (for full 5k) on the track his senior year. The GOAT is probably Gerry Lindgren who ran 13:44 on a shotty cinder track, 8:40 indoors for full 2-mile, and 4:01, and MOST NOTABLY qualified for the 1964 Summer Olympics. Lindgren's times are all the more impressive considering this was nearly 60 years and the technology, understanding of nutrition, and training back then was archaic compared to the options and information athletes have now.
@@berkeleygolfer diets were much better back then tbf, your average joe was eating like a modern day athlete. Pollution levels were also much lower back then.
Lindgren is still the HS Distance GOAT though, as well as Jim Ryun in the mile
I umpired those races at Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA. 2008. Great distance runners! Christina Babcock, 4:33.82, Three girls 2:10, three girls 2:11. Two boys 1:51...
Amazing race by Birnbaum and Simmons, giving it all! Bright future ahead for those guys.

It is the record, these times were ran at an official meet, so technically they got it
@@zugzug733 Verzbicas' time was not considered NFHS eligible. If you want to get really technical, Verzbicas raced in a pro race while Colin Sahlman did NOT run against professional or collegiate athletes in order to set a national record of 8:33 in the 3200. Completely and entirely high school, as it should be.

German’s record might be the full 2 mile
8:29 for full 2 miles is the National Record, by Lukas Verzbicas. That’s equivalent to an 8:26 3200
@@martydobbins5071 he ran that in a pro race. these guys only ran against high schoolers. lukas verzbicas record is more of an unofficial record because its not eligible for high school records.
