I dont care what anyone says but 7.3 is the best pickup truck diesel engine of all time , period. My dad has had 3 7.3’s and still have one of them that i would like to be my first truck. It has a tune and after market exhaust. Its front end and driver and passenger doors are off a 6.0 and people always get confused. It sounds so nice and still runs perfect. 7.3 is the best diesel ever

@OutdoorSavage 0123 ...I will beg to differ...the 7.3 powerstroke is a good v8 diesel, but i'm a mechanic so I prefer inline 6 truck engines...for pickups I don't think you can do better than a 5.9 Cummins,...the 6.7 Cummins is better since all the emissions, being the 5.9 couldn't keep up with the 6.7s

Go try to find a clean good running 5.9 cummins without rust. The only ones that are still running good and are clean are either built or are sema builds. Where i live you cant go a day without seeing or hearing a 7.3.

Had a 1995 F350 Dually with 7.3 at 490,000miles, that I sold to buy a 2001 F250 Crewcab at auction for $7000 in 2012. The F250 now has 533,000 miles on it, and being I'm 70 years old, I'd bet the 7.3 out lives me ! We'll see who wins that race as I don't ever plan on selling it !

Damn, ours has about 350k on it, and she's a keeper. Mine was stolen 3 mo. ago, got it back in 3 weeks after it was stolen. As most know that seldom happens, it was found by USBP in Laredo, TX. the thieves were running drugs in it. I know my wife and I got lucky, you just never see a stolen vehicle again, or there is nothing left of it. We love our 2002 F350 4X4 SRW crew 8' bed. We had our first date in it, plus it's a big, black, tinted out, cool looking truck. I was amazed the prices they bring when I started looking for a replacement, I had to do a lot to it to repair the damage done, and to theft proof it for the future use. I spent 2 weeks removing all accessible door locks. It is now electric only connected to my alarm/kill/fob. You can break into it through the windows and get in, but if you had MY keys you couldn't start it, the hood is chained and locked, and we have Lo-jack. Make sure and theft proof your truck guys, they are becoming very popular with the thieves, and the Cartel. Oh yeah, she has a LOT of performance mods.....

I knew of the issues with these engines around 250k miles so I replaced HPOP, IPR, IPC, CPS, injectors, all sensors and connector plugs, glowplugs, fuel pump, fuel lines, deleted the fuel pick up with a sump, installed a pre-pump canister fuel filter and water separator assembly off of a CAT engine, installed Riffrax crossover to eliminate dead-heading, rebuilt the turbo and pedestal with a wicked wheel impeller, installed a Mishimoto trans cooler, installed an AirRaid intake and battery tray system, rebuilt the fuel bowl, and painted the valve covers and all parts I removed white to easily see any leaks before they become costly problems. I am over 250k miles now and I see 17.5mpg like clockwork each Friday when I fill up on my way home from work to enjoy the weekend with my family. I only run Schaefer’s oil and Motorcraft filters. I enjoy my 7.3 each day I drive it. I plan on rebuilding my 4R100 trans to make it bulletproof in a year or two.

Emissions wasn’t the reason that Ford had to scrap the engine, California changed its noise regulations and the 7.3 was too loud for those standards. Also the 7.3 got an inter cooler when it was put into the Super Duty body style in 1998. Also to answer the last question, I own a 2001 7.3 F350 and it was worth every penny

I own a 2002 7.3 and the only issues I have had with it were all caused by the previous owner doing a lot of his own work on some wiring for a turning that caused my truck to shut off after a few minutes of running. That can be solved according a good friend of mine who swore he could build me a quality transmission out of my E4OD, after this transmission failed a second time, but the first time was a converter failure, so it was replaced and nothing else, second converter failed almost emeditly, but I believe it was the transmission, who would think that a converter would fail so fast, and it was a good quality but only a single clutch set up, so after pulling it out and taking it to my friend, he found the issues and that my transmission was actually in very good shape for the miles on it and the burnt torque converter, he replaced it with a triple clutch converter and rebuilt the transmission with Kevlar racing clutches and we put a deeper sump pan on it that doubled the pan capacity, I was looking into going manual or possibly Alison or a C6 with a gear vendors overdrive, all options would have cost me way more money, but my friend has been doing this for over 40 years and promised me that I couldn't break it, we will see, but do have faith in his confidence.
