      @@aceinternational4788 it most definitely is reliable when bulletproofed. Its a matter of how and who does it with what parts. There's literally thousands of cases regarding this. The 6.4 is entirely different in that there is literally no way to bulletproof them. My 6.0's have been the best trucks I personally ever owned. I had a stock 2006 F-250 thatI tuned and daily drove. It was nearing 200k miles and I thought something might go wrong so I sold that truck and got a 6.7 Powerstroke. That truck blew up at 150k miles. The biggest difference is when the 6.7 goes, that's a $15k bill. I ended up getting a 2005 F-350 to replace that truck and once again I have 200k miles but this truck is bullet proofed (minus water pump) with a semi built trans. You can fix a 6.0 for a lot cheaper than a 6.7 and I can actually work on my 6.0. I liked the 6.7 but I'm happier with my 6.0.

    I bought one 3 years ago. It was super clean and super cheap. I bought it to cut in half and stretch to 6 doors. 40k miles and 3 years later I still daily drive it. I’ve loaded my family up, hooked up a large camper and made 2 trips across the country in it. That said, you are correct that it takes a special kinda person to willing own one. Full bulletproof on day one… still kept clogging oil coolers. Finally went with a remote 6.7 IPR cooler with filter and temps are no longer an issue. If you turn your own wrenches, it can be a very capable and close effective truck. If you don’t do your own work, a brand new diesel truck would be cheaper!

      best solution for the oil cooler and EGR problems is remove the part, then its not an issue, my trucks been cranking out 700 hp and 1400 ft lbs of tourqe since 2012 its a 05 harley truck, and well. the oil cooler is just a plate that has hose fittings to feed a AIr to oil cooler in the grille, and the EGR, it fell off somewhere around 5,000 miles trucks got 210k on it, issue free realitivly speaking the only problems i've been having is Aftermarket injector manufacturers Quality control OUT of the box being broken, so i orderd some of the special tooling and beans Diesel injector rebuild kit, and a shitton of used core injectors, i build my own injectors, save a bunch of money and im not questioning if they're put together right. trucks only had 3 sets so far.

I replaced the oem oil cooler with a BD Power air-to-oil cooler and my oil temp is typically 10-15 below coolant temp running around unladen. I have an 03 f250 6.0. With 160K miles. It is all stock except for the upgraded EGR cooler. They are better than some of the other options. More power than the 7.3 and the cummins 12 valve. Things I have been told to help them live.
    1) change oil and coolant at recommended intervals
    2) change fuel filer every 10K and only use the Ford factory filter.
    3) Dont turn em up.
    4) Avoid a lot of short trips. Try to drive 20 miles at highway speed once or twice a week and spool the turbo up.
    5) Use a good fuel conditioner at every fill up.
    6) plan on spending $1000 if anything goes wrong and keep $3000 in the bank in case the injectors go.
    I am planning to keep mine another 20 years. I hate the thought of pulling the cab off to rebuild the engine, but at least the engines are normally good rebuild canidates.

    I had one but sold it when I joined the army (stationed in Hawaii and forget about a diesel truck here)
    And I loved it. It was a pain in the ass but it was MY pain in the ass.
    I had to replace the oil cooler, remove the EGR, EGR cooler, replace a couple other parts and take it to a voodoo witch doctor but after that she was amazing! Had all the power I needed, did pretty good in the mud and snow, had a long bed so I could put whatever I wanted back there and still had room. She was big, loud, and in charge.
    With all of that said I was still occasionally get an issue with death rattling and I’m not sure what it was but I think maybe 4 or 5 times it had an issue where even if I pinned the accelerator it wouldn’t rev about 2-3k and would pump out white or black (some times both) smoke. I’d have to park (yes happened while driving a couple times) turn the truck off and restart it and it’s be just find. And of course my CAC tubing blew off the turbo a couple times but a new boot fixed that.
    All in all, it was a good truck but you just had to give it a little extra love and some hate (pretty sure my truck was sentient and had a degradation kink, she just worked good after I told it how much I hated it and how I would drive it into a tree for the insurance money.

    I'm on my third 6.0. Traded a 2003 in on a 2006 ( 2wd to 4wd) . I put 330 thousand on that one until a friend wrecked it while I was in the hospital. I bought a 2005 with 220 thousand miles on it that had to have the heads replaced . The two I bought new I never had a head gasket issue or a hot start problem but I did have to replace injectors, transmission , oil cooler and ficm at different times between 200 and 330 thousand miles

    when I was looking for a diesel one of the things that turned me off from a powerstroke was the EGR and the head gasket failures, with the duramax was the emissions parts there dumped into them that would constantly fail and also the CP4 failures, and with a cummins was the weak transmissions. I choose the cummins cause I know about their transmissions and engines cause I learned how to work on them in automotive school so I was more comfortable with getting a cummins truck since I will know how to work on one right away.

    Tbh when 6.0 trucks came in at the dealers I worked at they either ran fine forever in a clapped out old single cab farm truck or some kid who bought one and it came in on the hook every other week. It’s like the engine was built right up to the limit of what the design could handle and if you used it as a truck it was fine but otherwise they don’t last. (This is like after 2015 btw I didn’t get to see them new btw) also I will also point out that the 6.0 is also used in international/navistar stuff from the same era as either the nt360 or nt444 I don’t quite remember the exact name and they don’t have near as many issues and the only difference really is the turbo

  • @superdutyzack
    @superdutyzack 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Comes down to maintenance, abuse, and preventative upgrades. I know of a few 6.0 owners, all with different opinions. My grandpa had a 2005 DRW 350 or 450. That thing had less than 25k mikes when he started having issues. Only used for towing and the funny thing is its the turbo that went bad. His neighbor who farms and daily’s a 6.0 has almost 350k miles and is on the original motor/tranny, so it really is a toss up. I think my grandpa didn’t drive his 6.0 enough tbh. As someone who is torn on wether to go the 6.0 route or a 6.7 route. My buddy went from a manual 6.0 with some mild modifications to a 2015 6.7 and he says they aren’t comparable and that his 6.7 is better in every way. His 6.7 is completely stock minus a different exhaust.
    Sucks cause I can get good deal 6.0’s all day, like lariats or King Ranches with 50k miles for 25k. I plan the truck would need 10k worth of mandatory upgrades and probably 10k worth of fun upgrades, if not more. If I get a 6.7, im probably looking at 40-50k from the start.
    For nostalgia purposes, the idea of a 6.0 build sounds fun as hell, but problematic and frustrating 😅

  • @dieselsmoke821
    @dieselsmoke821 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 6.0L is a very solid platform, you just have to address some of the factory weaknesses.
    It's a 500,000 mile motor all day long if it's cared for. FICMRepair sells high output alternators, wiring upgrades, head studs, FICM tunes, injectors, turbos, etc. On the 6.0L, simply running a good external coolant filtration, a good synthetic oil (with AR9100 additive) and a FCIM tune will prevent a lot of the needless hassles and make a relatively stock rig run pretty solid. Obviously there are tons of other great mods a guy can do, but just doing those things can make a big difference.

    I'm a cummins guy through and through, and quite honestly I want one of these because it's cheap and easy to acquire. Made a deal with a guy for 5k for his, 215k miles and he bulletproofed it apparently also has a new ipr system in it and a new computer too. God forbid the engine dies or at least not for a long while, but if it does I'll just put a cummins an an Allison transmission in it. Why? Why not? I get to keep my truck, not spend a shit ton of money buying another truck and it'll just be stupidly reliable as cummins motors tend to be. And yes, it'd be a 5.9 24 valve. But all that aside, it's beat up inside and out but it sounds really strong. Once I test drive it I'll know for sure and should all go well, I'll have a new daily driver with a tan leather interior so I can make money.

      6.0 has a modern engine compared to the 7.3 with way more hp.
      If you don’t have lots of money to pay a mechanic or if you don’t like working on your vehicles then avoid it, otherwise you can do everything but head studs at home, and by avoiding all the labor costs it doesn’t take that much $$ to make it a worth while truck to own.

    Well I just hit 181,000 miles on my 2006 6.0 with no issues other than regular oil changes , wheel bearings etc. I had 1 real shop visit and it was my own fault..old bad batteries I neglected to change toasted my FICM. I’m not bulletproofed with studs , but I am deleted and tuned with a 5” straight pipe. Truck sits on 35’s with a 6” lift. It’s always been a Daily driver and rarely towed anything. It’s driven like a sports car and I keep up with routine maintenance like fuel filters, oil changes etc. Diesel Kleen in every tank of gas to. Hpop is still stock and the truck runs perfect . Egr was deleted early in the trucks life which is why I think the truck runs with no problems.

      Just depends on the truck so far I’ve replaced stand pipes,ipr,icp, then the hpop went out so naturally the ipr has gone out again. But it’s been fully bulletproofed you might wanna keep it on a stock tune if yours isn’t studded. All that stuff was replaced before I hit 155k miles and the truck had 150k when I got it.

    I have 3 of the 6.0
    I love my trucks no real emissions equipment as modern deisel and all the power I need to haul the stuff I tow and or carry
    2 things tho they are not a city truck long idle times kills all the affirmentioned companies and regular surviving is a must.
    My work dog has 300k on it and runs like champ but there are a stake of 3 ring binders of service and matance to get there and I will say with proof the heads have never been off once.
    I did buy a problem truck with 90k that was going on its 3rd set of head for super cheap come to find out the EGR was the original ford and was most likely the cause of the death of the head gasket
    But the 6.0 is the entusist truck
