      I gave away a 1985 250 ES last fall because I got tired of it being in the way in the shed.. It needed plastics but otherwise was in great shape. It was well maintained.

    Just about to "restore" my 1985 250ES. It is a perfect example. No broken plastics, everything is there. I have owned it for about 8 years and have just used it. Now it needs some love for all the years of no troubles and hard work. They are beasts. I will literally be buried with mine when I die. Invaluable tool.

    I'm working on restoring my grandpa's 85 big red. So I've been watching 3 wheeler videos for motivation. I've watched a few of your videos. This thing is a gem... and your girlfriend is a gem too. Finding a partner who supports your hobbies with that enthusiasm is gold. Hold onto that man. I'm going to continue watching your videos 🤘

    Nice! Many years ago when I was in high school, I had a 1985 Honda ATC 200S. My dad bought for me brand new that year. I loved that bike and rode it nearly every day. Two years later, I come home from college and I want to ride my three wheeler. It’s not there. My folks had traded it for a pink golf cart for my younger sister. I was, and still am, devastated. If I were you, I’d hang on that 250 ES. I’d definitely do replica plastic, and I would not snorkel it. Great find man, I’m jealous!

But personally I'd take everything off that bike that is stock and replace with some sort of aftermarket and put all stock stuff in a air tight box so ya can put it all back to stock when ya want a show room piece for sure! And most of all thanks for the awsome content keep up the good work maybe one day I can come ride with yall down south been trying to get my stuff all set up to do so! Hard to find a spot to ride up and around here in summit county.

    Just finished my 1985 also. Replace oil pump, new clutch pack, new valves, new piston rings, replaced piston with a genuine piston due a piece of old valve pierced through piston. Replaced cylinder head with a genuine 250sx due to chain chain tensioner vibrating loose and created a huge laceration. New gaskets. New one way bearing. New oil filter. After all this is prrrrrrring like a kitty. Still needs a lot cosmetic work.

    Man your lucky lol. That thing is sharp. Great find. I'll be back on one soon, haven't been on a big red since 96 so it's been a while. I'm hoping to find one this summer. Had to come back and say Dont you dare snorkel that thing lol. I grew up riding when you hardly ever saw snorkels and we still rode through creeks and everything we just tried to avoid going to the gas tank so water didn't go into the air box and of course the exhaust didn't matter as long as your on the gas. I hate seeing these guys put snorkels on everything, it takes away the challenge, you just gotta be careful. You have got sometching very special in front of you I would keep in original as possible.

    I lived on a farm growing up. These things were super popular with the farmers as soon as they came out. But in about 1987 when the first quads debuted (I want to say they were Suzuki), they all sold their Big Reds and got the four wheelers.

    • @blazerwilliams2260
      @blazerwilliams2260 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly believe Suzuki, and Kawasaki did too, I know Honda did because I know someone that had an 87 Honda 4 Trax 250. My family kept 2 big reds on the farm but they added a 92 or 93 Honda 4 Trax 300 and as soon as that Foreman 400 4x4 came out I believe in 94 they bought one but I was never aloud to ride that. Now that I'm thinking of it they had a Kawasaki Bayou 185 and that thing was probably an 87 or 88 not sure.

    • @andyblack5687
      @andyblack5687 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blazerwilliams2260 The big four probably came out with them all in the same year or one year after. They’re always competitive with each other. I don’t remember if the first ones had electric start but I do remember guys saying they didn’t like the pull start on their Big Reds. I don’t know if some of them may have had electric or kick start also. I remember most of the ones I saw had the rope like a push mower.

    • @blazerwilliams2260
      @blazerwilliams2260 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andyblack5687I'm thinkin they all have electric start because I can think of 2 different 87s that had it. And your right most of them had pull starts for back up and if I'm not mistaken most of the 3 wheelers had kick starts as back ups. Yea I've been obsessed with these things even before I was riding I used to have a subscription to Dirt Wheels. Last atv I owned was a 98 Recon which was in one of the 98 dirt wheels issues and they had a 250 shoot out were they were judging the best sport utility 250 and the Honda Recon put all the others to shame so I got it and it really did that in real life. I watched my friends four wheelers get torn up left and right and my Honda out lasted all of them but of course I took great care of it too.

    • @andyblack5687
      @andyblack5687 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My dad and both his brothers all bought brand new ones and my dad totaled his the first week. He tried to pass his brother in the field and it was so dusty he didn't see a pile of rail road ties and that was it. He still has back problems over 30 years later, I wish he still had his big red because his brothers still have theirs.

    No prius trailer? I'm now trailering a Raptor 660 and kx100 on the same 4 by 8 trailer. Yes towed by 3rd gen Prius. Yes total weight including trailer itself is less than 1000 pounds. It's one of those aluminum folding trailers.
