    Beautiful climb, and awesome effort!
5:45 Here are some numbers on a hypothetical to back that up. Let's say the climb is 4 miles long with half being "steep" and the other half "moderate". If you average 4mph on the steep half and 16mph on the moderate half, your time will be 37m30s. If you instead average 6mph on the steep half and 14mph on the moderate half, your time will be 28m34s. Your pacing plan makes sense when only factoring gravity, but it makes even more sense when also factoring drag. Power required to overcome gravity increases linearly as grade increases, but power required to overcome drag increases exponentially as speed increases.
6:30 How I have my bike computer set up is screen 1 has total time, total distance, total average watts, 3s watts, grade, cadence, average HR, HR, total average speed, and speed. Then screen 2 is set up the same exact way, except lap values instead of total values. Any time I start a segment that I'm putting in a dedicated effort on, I just switch to screen 2 and press the lap button. I like the convenience of having similar data fields in the same locations as screen 1, and that it has all the fields I would want whether I'm doing a climb or flat segment.

Great video Max. Lots of useful information. To put your time into context: I'm a 58 years-old and 80Kg so my aim (in 3 week's time) is to do the climb without stopping!!

Thank you. Ah man, it will be a lot warmer for you as well so please do factor that in. Hope it goes well for you, save a little extra for the corkscrew and final straight ;)

Strong effort mate! You have come really far from your first Zwift videos. All the hours on the trainer have certainly been worth it. I will be heading to Majorca next saturday, and am very much looking forward to this climb. My ultimate goal is to do it in under 30 minutes, but as far as I know it requires about 5w/kg or 375w for me and that is a very scary number. I think you are bang on about digging a bit deeper when the gradients are steeper. I also have a heavy aero bike (Canyon Aeroad at 8.1kgs), so I will have to shed weight in another ways. My plan: 1) full on aero kit (skinsuit and socks) 2) stash one bidon on top of the climb, have about 2dl in another one for the ascent 3) just a minipump in the jersey pocket, fingers crossed that sealant will fix possible punctures. :D 4) wait and hope for a tailwind day. Thanks again for the video!

If you can plan to go as light as possible, give yourself the best chance. Hope you get a good day with conditions 30 is well beyond my dreams

Great enthusiasm here Max. Good that you are really enjoying that bike too. The big ring small ring choice here is tricky. The 33 crank ring gives you over 20mph in the biggest gear at the back at 92rpm. If you came from di2 11 speed the best you would be getting is 18mph at that cadence. So the sram 12 speed gives you a really impressive range in either front ring. Because the front ring is 33, certainly smaller than a 42 and slightly smaller than a compact 34 setup, you get a very slightly smaller ration with each gear change, ie the gear inches per change is less and gives you a better chance of finding the ideal gear. I think you have a 48 on the front as well, so each individual gear change would be significantly bigger than using the front 33. Checked my own stats for 35 mins and power PB is 270. At 70kgs I would be a little slower than you plus the extra 30w you have would win out a bit too I think. 35mins is a properly good target for us mere mortals. My 10 min PB is 300w and that was a year or so ago, so great effort to be holding 300 for over 30 mins, ftp just above 290 I guess.

@@thewattlife That sram set up is so nice, Z2 outside and you can just sit in the small front ring up to about 22mph. It is really satisfying with super close gear changes. And the Sram Force Cranks look so much better. Be really interesting to see a collage of some of your early zwift efforts and your latest efforts particularly if you could nock a few out on similar courses... rolling highlands etc and a few others. It would really show what can be achieved in a year with a bit of application. You gotta be happy!
