If you raise your guide rollers and then lower the deck the same amount your grass cut will be just as level but the deck will be closer to the ground and will reduce the amount of grass blowing around. Good video. Thanks.
It probably depends on how much of the pant-supporting" anatomy is still intact. Mine has been chewed off at regular intervals over the years and a belt doesn't have much to hang on to anymore. YMMV
For those of you who can, there is a hole directly below the hole he attached the latch hook spacer to. That's where I put the spacer and now the cover fits very snug, much better then with the spacer on top.
I installed that mulching kit on my YVH 24/48 but it did not stay tight against the housing. The grass built up under the mulcher cover and it was squeezing out. I had to drill two holes about six inches apart through the outer curve of the bottom cover flange and the mower deck itself and secure that cover with bolts. It has worked great. Mulches so well that it is very hard to tell if the grass was mowed it looks so good. Those spring type hooks for That mulcher also had to be very tightly secured to deck. My blades have just the uplift section on the back side and not the Gator blades.
Sorry to ask a dumb question, but you are worried about the orientation of the blades on the "stars". Does it matter? If it's being turned by a belt and not a gear, then the "timing" can continuously change. Those belts will always slip a little bit changing the relative timing between blades. yes? no?
how did you get the "48 in" flap off he exit schute of the deck? it't got a spring thingy that keeps the flap down, is there a cotter key or nut that keeps the shaft there?
Ii use my leaf blower to blow grass and leaves from my mower, then spray it out with the hose. My mulching kit cover has two short bungee type cords that just snap on.
Great video thank you. Curious after installing the mulch cover if the discharge chute stays in place does it keep the grass from flying around? Going to test this in 2 days
With all due respect to the videos creator, no malice intended.. I've tried the gator blades on several models, with and without mulching plates. I went back to OEM mulching blades and they outperform gator blades with or without the plate.. But, if you are mowing infrequently in big, thick weeds and stalks, gators work about as well as standard bagger blades.. They just chop and drop out the chute.
As long as you don't get behind the growing curve I do. Leave town for a week during growing season and you might have to double-cut or even collect the clippings.
@@mrsrattlecanshouse5966 I sometimes have to double(cut) with the open chute on thick lawns. I was hoping blocking off the chute would eliminate that problem.
Just out of curiosity what size bolt holds it in place? saves me a trip underneath to find out - lol Oh for torque there was an old joke - hand tight plus or minus 2 castilations (Used by airplane mechanics when asked what the torque was_. Reality is that snug +2 is really close to the actual torque recommended most times

You do know that most mower blades come WITHOUT an edge on them and require sharpening, right? That would probably help A LOT with the mulching process don't you think?
Gator Blades are pre sharpened There is no reason to grind them at all The paint wears off very quickly after installation. You have a factory edge - why mess with it.
@@Tatertot_Tommy doubt me ? Run brand new blades on your mower and watch It’s only a paint coating that is on them The blades spin so fast with so much force behind them the paint is removed easily. Again Why resharpen a factory sharpened blade.
@@anguslean4058 So you're saying that the blades are sharper after cutting your grass than they were when you put them on your mower huh? Does that even make sense to you?
The phase won't matter because your belt will eventually slip. Or if you hit a rock with one of the blades, it will go out of phase, no need to pay that much attention to it.
I just wanted to quickly comment. I purchased a mulching kit, saw your video, and my installation was flawless. Thank you!

Thanks for the tips!
Oddly satisfying. It's nice to watch work like this being done when you're not the one preforming, although we all will eventually.
I'd like to know how to get the old shoot off I'm stuck on that too. Mine has attached washer so it won't go threw when I hammer it to get it off.
Do you recommend wearing suspenders or can this be done by just wearing a regular belt?
It probably depends on how much of the pant-supporting" anatomy is still intact. Mine has been chewed off at regular intervals over the years and a belt doesn't have much to hang on to anymore. YMMV
thank you James . i agree mulch the lawns instead of filling up land fills . would it not feed the lawn as you mulch too . so win win
Thanks Walter. I miss my no-mow Arizona lawn but will do the best I can for this one.

I noticed that Amazon is selling mulching blade cover kits without the blades. Try searching there to see if you can find something that fits.

Same experience here. Once you plug that up it seems to work pretty well.

There is a gap between the blades when they are "edge to edge" so it doesn't seem to matter. Good question.
Thanks for the video. Poor instructions came with the blade kit. Made complete sense after your video!!
how did you get the "48 in" flap off he exit schute of the deck? it't got a spring thingy that keeps the flap down, is there a cotter key or nut that keeps the shaft there?
Honestly I think I used a screwdriver and a pair of pliers but it has faded from my old-man brain.
Trying to mulch leaves, it blows them forward from the deck. Not sure how to fix that.
We uaually drop the deck for the final mowing(s) of the season and that usually takes care of it. Might be worth a try.
Ii use my leaf blower to blow grass and leaves from my mower, then spray it out with the hose. My mulching kit cover has two short bungee type cords that just snap on.
PS- Blade orientation doesn’t really matter as there will be some inherent asymmetric belt slippage over time.
Great video thank you. Curious after installing the mulch cover if the discharge chute stays in place does it keep the grass from flying around? Going to test this in 2 days
Great video, I was hoping you would show how to remove the original chute, stuck on that part.
OOrtiz87 you’re really supposed to leave the old chute on but to each their own
Did your mower already have mulching blades? Maybe, the ones you bought caused the shavings spray out.

how do you put a mulching kit on a Troy-Bilt Pony tractor?
Try Googling "troy-built pony tractor mulch kit" and see what comes up.
I was thinking about putting on on my yth 24V48; do you think it's worth it considering how much debris it kicks up with it on there?

I don’t remember anything remarkable about removing it…sorry.
Did you lift the mower by climbing that lumber? That is dangerous! Otherwise, good video! Thanks for posting
Everyone needs to work within their limits and what they're comfortable with.

awesome
Good video. I’m researching before I buy for my Husky YTH21K46 model. Do you like the Gator blades that you are you using?
I do. Keep them sharp as-needed and make sure the mulch cover is on tight.
Came here assuming ininstalled the plastic grass outlet cover wrong.. but nope its just a really bad design
Great video. Loved the "deez nutz" joke.
