Love this guy ! Most informative, helpful, no nonsense videos l have ever watched. I been doing this type of work since I was a teenager in the 70's and T Bone , you the Man. Thanks
Last summer 2023 I took my deck off and set up on 2 sawhorses to change out the spindles and blades. I took the 4 bolts out of the spindle but it was kinda stuck to the deck still. Well I tapped on the shaft. The shaft fell out with the blade still on it ( should’ve taken the blade off I guess) anyway the blade bounced off the one of the sawhorses and ripped my inner thigh. I want go any further to gross you out. Let’s just say I almost bled to death. Hospital stay. It hurts still to talk about it! Take you time like this nice fellow dies y’all. It ain’t worth getting in a hurry! Love your videos brother man. From the swamps in Louisiana I stay next to the duck dynasty boys. Y’all be good!!
5:00 great tip! After I changed spindles I noticed that blade is wobbling as you said (I just bought used yth 18542). I ordered new cup bolts but in meantime I fabricated additional washers out of sheet metal (sits between old bolt and the blade). That made blades sit tight for now.
Thanks for the tip on making sure the blades are even. I'm working on an identical mower right now. The main complaint is the blades don't cut even. Guess why? This guy mows anything in his way, rocks, hunks of scrap metal, anything!! Thanks again, great video
Perfect video about replacing blades and spindles on this machine. You mentioned the air hose leaking sound. I have that same leaking sound and I do not even have a compressor.
My air compressor broke it is 23 years old but I got air tools now I got buy a used air compressor I fixed it like 4 times already it’s time for a new used one great videos 👍🤘
I luv the electric hitch. It makes doing these repairs much simpler. I've been lifting my lately with a tractor front loader or just drive the setup on rhino ramps.
good video. its amazing how many people refuse to take care of their stuff because they dont want to spend the money as they see it as unnecessary. probably from a complete lack of understanding anything about this stuff. Also you should NEVER use any power equipment bare foot or even in sandles. Always wear at least full covering shoes like sneakers. Always.
Alex, its good to see your watching T-Bone and keeping an eye on him. I really miss your channel as well. Thanks for your military service and have a great memorial day weekend!✌🇺🇸
I like your videos, good entertainment. LOL I would tell everyone that it don't do any good to grease the spindles either, since your in the business of changing deck spindles, after all it's Job security. Myself over 40 years never changed a deck spindle, but I've always greased them.
Then the hospital catches fire, then you,,,,, great optimism T-Bone,,, loved it 🤣🤣🤣. This job was way toooooooooo easy although I said bearing squealing lol.
As to the dead battery. My Craftsman DLS3500 46” Riding Lawn Mower Tractor has engine 31P977-0635 E1 0608157D which according to Briggs and Stratton the alternator output for charging "is unregulated in that the energy delivered to the battery is totally dependent on engine speed." As these charging systems aren't regulated, to prevent the battery from being overcharged, they seem to return just enough to hopefully start the engine the next time you need it and always having the battery only partially charged. After mowing charge the battery overnight on a battery charger/maintainer and you will probably find your engine starts better (especially if you have to crank it due to flooding, etc) and the battery will last much longer. Hope this helps.
The blades on my craftsman gt tractor were in bad so I replaced them as well as the spindles and the spindle housings plus replacement of the ideler pullies
Hot Damn T-Bone🔥🔥🔥, You the man, started watching your videos about a month ago, they are so informative! Keep up the good work, Oh, and say Hello to Mrs T as well !
Love your work. Im noticing my baffle is chewed up in a mower blade pattern as if the blades are hitting it. My mower rattles violently. We’ve replaced the spindles, pulleys, blades, belt and leveled the deck with it still vibrating. Please help!! No one works on these professionally.
Just wondering if there are any issues with jacking mower up like that? Wondering about the oil in the engine doing damage? Maybe a good time to drain oil first. Thanks for this!!!!
I've never seen blades THAT torn up. Those blades are made of special heat treated alloy steel. They are strong. I cut a 3/4 inch steel pipe fitting in half mowing along a canal. I saved it for years.
Great video. I have a similar mower with a Kohler 20hp single Courage engine. It has 496 hours on it. How much life do you think I have left in it? Thanks!!
Great question. It depends a lot on the maintenance. The biggest cause of failure on that engine is..... the bolts back off on the engine cover under the flywheel causing it to Crack the block. Remove your plastic top engine cover, 4 bolts, 8mm. Tighten all the bolts around the top of the engine near the flywheel to hopefully help it last longer for ya. Hope this helps you my friend
The 6-point star on my Craftsman pro series 46-inch appears worn on both spindles. I suspect as a result of my heavy-duty Oregon blades striking the top of a tree root, etc. I have approximately 250 hours on my tractor. Can I just order and replace the center shaft and 6-point star - or should I order an entire assembly as you did in this video? I don't have an impact wrench but I'm okay using a ratchet wrench. Where do you recommend I purchase the replacement parts. We no longer have Sears anywhere in Hawaii. Thanks!
Wasn't a retake it was a week apart 🤣 I'm a dummy I should have had those spindles in stock forgot I was out. Awesome!! Thanks for catching it and commenting 🙂
😆 parts were filmed a week apart. It was supposed to be last Friday's video. I slipped up and didn't have spindles in stock because forgot to order them. Lmao 🤣
My wife's rider I had to do some maintenance on. Just got it out of storage. First mow was good. This one today lots of grind noise and worse on turns. I see you raised the mower up like that. The oil and gas doesn't leak out?
I have a Husqvarna YTH22v46 that started making horrific banging noises underneath and couldnt find any cause. All pulleys and spindles seem to spin normally (at least I think). I started pulling blades off. One blade has the metal "wing" broken off and the mounting bolt was barely tight. Once removed and mounting surfaces wire brushed, i could not for the life of me get the 5 stars to line up! It seems the 5 stars on the spindle shaft are disfigured and worn way short. The other blade had the bolt cross-threaded so it ripped all the threads out of the shaft when i forced it out. Question - should i go ahead and just replace all deck idlers along with the spindles and belts for a "once and done"? This mower is only 3yrs old, but was used for a commercial mowing business for 2 years. I believe the hour meter shows about 190 hours now. The mower was certainly beat to hell, but i got it cheap. I just want to avoid dropping the deck twice, or ruining new spindles. Thanks!
I don't see where the "spindle is ruint". Mine is, on one side, the star is gone. Do I have to replace both? Is the orientation of the new blades random? anywhich way?
My Deere D130 just started having the blades kissing each other intermittently, about every 10-15 seconds. It didn't do that when I replaced the spindles and the blades last summer. I have no clue what changed over the winter. I am tempted to sharpen and reinstall the old blades to see if that resolves the problem. Ever come across an issue like that?
New bearing are sealed grease cant get in or out now if you put in new ones your self take out the inside seal and then you can grease but the first time you grease them it may thke a whole tub of grease for both spindles not just 5 or 6 pumps of the gun
Well actually that's incorrect, the seals only marginally keep debris out and grease in. A grease gun will generate 1,000 to 5,000 PSI, will definitely go past the seal. Test it out, keep pumping and you will see grease come out the other side of the seals.
When I learned all mower spindle bearings are sealed I couldnt wait for my bearings to fail so I can pop off the seals and grease them regular like the bible says to do. Well, its been 6 years & 550hrs and the bearings are still smooth & tight & quiet. So Im thinking maybe they dont need to be greased after all. !
Why did you grease a sealed bearing if you knew it was sealed? WTF? You should have removed the inside seal so the grease would do some good. How stupid.
That is a topic that is highly debated among mechanics. I tend to agree with you but there are a whole other set of individuals that swear the grease will get inside. We grease whether the bearings are sealed or not mainly to avoid conflict 🙄
Bro, THANK YOU for the new blade bolt info. Thought I was losing my mind.
Great video on changing the spindles on a HusQ. Thank you for sharing with us!
Thank you, we really appreciate your support my friend

I got mine then and still using it
Only one kit be done
Oil her every day

Well Mr. T-Bone, you and Taryl are my main go to channels now...awesome content, video and humor, keep up the great work..👍👍

Great work I use to remove the deck from Thomas in Ireland

You were right the first time. There are teeth on the pulley. Splines are found on a shaft, in this case, the spindle shaft.
Perfect video about replacing blades and spindles on this machine. You mentioned the air hose leaking sound. I have that same leaking sound and I do not even have a compressor.
Thank you. I'm old and leak also 🤣
My air compressor broke it is 23 years old but I got air tools now I got buy a used air compressor I fixed it like 4 times already it’s time for a new used one great videos 👍🤘
Great video like always....BTW, I love the artwork on the back of the toolbox!
Thank you. They are pretty cool, MrsT has put up quite a few in the shop.
Holy grass clippings!! I have changed some bad blades for a few people but NOT that bad!!
🤣

Great video.... Thanks. How do you keep crank case oil from fouling plug when tipping mower as such??.
Yes it was very loud my friend awesome video
Great video T-Bone, the customer sure got their money's worth out of them blades 👍
Thank you. Yes they did 😆
Love your approach
Nice video T-Bone, you always make it look so easy brother. 🙂👍

Are these Husqvarna blades defective where the dove tail sheers off
TBone, Does it not hurt the engine raising it that high off the ground? I always heard the oil goes back into the carburetor.

Its that Columbia sand. Every time you cut grass its like sandblasting your blade and mower deck.
LOL yes it is.
I'll get my model and serial numbers and check
Who do you like for parts ? I've bought some junk in yhe past !
Rotary is #1
What if your blades want turn
Worn out and badly out of balance will crack deck and destroy brg
what is the average life span of spindles on a rider???

that cupped washer is so you can strip your new hub out easy
