Authentic Philly Italian experience at Carmela Cafe in Northeast Philly

- In this episode I visit Cafe Carmela located 2859 Holmes ave. Philadelphia right by the Holmes Circle. Cafe Carmela opened March 2020 and is destined to be a great establishment in the Northeast. Big thanks to owner Joe and staff for a great experience. I was able to taste the fresh pizza, spaghetti bolognese and the chicken cutlet sandwich. The pizza pie was my favorite. It was cheesy, crunchy and very flavorful. The chicken cutlet was a classic sandwich with crumbled cheese, seeded roll, broccoli rab and a huge fried chicken cutlet. This sandwich can be shared with 2 people. Lastly the spaghetti bolognese was super fresh and creamy. An absolute classic tasting dish. Check them out for some great authentic italian philly eats.

Good pizza do not reheat it in the microwave use a air fryer or a toaster oven best bet eat it right away or the crust going to get hard
JL now that's the kind of crust I love nice and crisp. Their sauce look nice and robust. You know a pizza is good when you don't have to put anything on it. Most pizza I usually have to put garlic power oregano and crush pepper on it to give it flavor. That chicken sandwich look so freakin good. Great video JL it will make anybody hungry.

Thanks JL for the recommendation. My wife and I were there yesterday. The Margarita pizza was great. We brought home sandwiches and just had a piece of my wife's cheese steak and it was delicious. The rip eye that they use is one of the best tasting steaks that I ever had. Thanks!

Love this place that pie is called the mags I get it nonstop that and the nonni are both great pies,they have a incredible cheesesteak too.
THEY ARE BLESSED!! Having that much success and being new is rare. No wonder I never heard of them, I know the Holme Circle, Nazareth Hospital area well. I think I will check them out.

Years ago there was a Carmela's at 86-8700 Frankford Avenue, Right at Crispin & Frankford. It was a set menu Italian restaurant that was excellent. Me and the wife celebrated the birth at Nazareth Hospital of one of our children there. Wonder if someone remember the place, I attempted to google it without returns on it.

I originally lived in South Philly. When I moved to NE Philly I couldn’t get any good takeout. Their pizza is great. Montessini’s in lower Mayfair is also good but Cafe Carmela is better.
Man it was ricotta cheese on that Bolognese sauce pasta.. Place looks awesome that crunch on that pizza!! Looks out of this world.

There's no baloney in bolognese. It's ground pork fried off with onions carrots and celery. A bit of milk is added a cooked down. Then tomatoes, tomato paste and seasoning are added. It's stewed for a while. If you add cooked ground meat to your normal pasta sauce then it's more or less the same. The meat in the sauce is much more soft because it's cooked for awhile. Before tomatoes became popular bolognese was made with milk and some people still make it that way.

I recommend you go to Tio Pepe Portuguese and Spanish restaurant on Castor Avenue and Fanshawe Street in the Northeast. Awesome Authentic Portuguese dishes, tremendous Paella and seafood. Great steaks and you must try the Pork and Clams. All the best
