    A lot of ppl have contemplated the lyrics of Tomboy, and thought that especially Soyeons rap was crap. But a lot of nevies(fandom) have noticed that the lyrics are making a statement about Soojin getting kicked out of the group and the kpop industry and its crappy consernative standards.
    Soojin was the 6th member, who sadly got kicked out of the group by their company after she had multiple scandals. A bullying scandal came first, where she was accused of being a bully in middle and high school, torturing her fellow classmates. It was proven false, one of the alleged victim's sister(who made a post accusing Soojin) was found to be a misunderstanding. Soojin wasn't the only idol to have a bullying scandal in early 2021, as multiple idols were accused, most being fake.
    Then there were scandals about her smoking, drinking, and having sex when she was still underage. In Tomboys uncensored rap, Soeyen sings "sex on whiskey" and "without cigarettes" which correlate straight to Soojins scandals. Soojin did admit to smoking and drinking when underaged, and in the released statement she talked about how she isn't proud of it.
    The whole lyrics also attack the industry. Female idols are supposed to be really conservative: cute and charming, well behaved, no smoking, no drinking, no love life with their life only dedicated to pleasing the fans, not too different, cant show too much or too little skin, no opinions of their own, no tattoos, not even crushes or finding other people attractive, obviously no LGBTQ unless its fan service. The whole song is basically just a fuck u to the industry and its standards for female idols. Soyeon raps "id rather film a TikTok" which pretty clearly is put there to show that this is a different generation, and connected with the song, it's pretty clearly saying that "fuck u and your standards, this is a different generation".
    Just to update on Soojin: she was kicked out of the group, and the last knowledge of what we have of her is that she was in her grandmas' house in early 2021 after the scandals broke online.

    yes, soojin was kicked out from this group because she was accused of bullying in highschool, in last resulting she wasn't guilty, still their agency was a trash and didn't discuss anything about it, and kicked her out from this group. but technically she was in the group. but this month, her contract was terminated and she finally lets herself out from that crappy agency.

    • @ashurasama
      @ashurasama 2 ปีที่แล้ว +83

      This isn't actually what happened. A FAMOUS ACTRESS accused Soojin of bullying and considering they were indeed in the same middle school, and the actress had spoken about being bullied in the past YEARS prior to the accusations, the public believed HER rather than whatever statement Soojin put out. Soojin's career had no chance of recovering from that and that's why Cube removed her from the group, and ended her contract in order to free Soojin from any obligations she had towards the agency. With an ongoing idol contract, it would have been extremely difficult for her to sign even a simple work contract, now she can at least go on with her life - keeping her signed would have been the cruel thing to do since she has no chance of coming back to the entertainment industry.
      The reason why Cube waited until last week to end her contract is probably because they still had an ongoing defamation lawsuit with Soojin's first accusers (not the actress). They were only able to end her contract when the lawsuit was officially dismissed by the police (because of lack of evidence, they decided that the case couldn't proceed to court).

    I was really surprised with your interpretation of "Oh My God". The theory that most people have is about temptation and probably even obsession. The main lyrics are "Oh My God She(!) took me to the sky/Oh My God She(!) showed me all the stars" referring to obviously a woman. Soojin(the blonde girl with purple background) said her role in the MV is to be the temptation for the other girls...to make them fall in love with her. Soyeon(the rapper) is the one who wrote the whole song and she said "I believe that all kinds of love are valuable and must be respected." This song made a lot of waves and the LGBTQ community was really happy to hear it. It's honestly my favourite song, from the vocals/rap and the MV to what it represents

    Gidle are known for having a different and unique concept every comeback.
    The message that Tomboy has is really good. as a female self produced and self made group (Which is almost non existent in the kpop industry) Gidle has always struggled to prove that you don't need to be a man to make your own music. Soyeon( The rapper and the writer and producer of this song and 90 percent of Gidle's discography) has talked about this so many times and how she thinks music doesn't have gender.(Which is the main theme of this song where they say it's neither man nor woman just me I-DLE)
    In a male dominated society like Korea and industry like Kpop, I think this song (And this whole album) was a really risky move specially after one year of hiatus but nothing can stop these girls.

She's our precious cherry and dancing queen:( But thank you for checking our girls out!! Soyeon (main rapper/ leader) does write most of their songs and that's why all their tracks have deep messages!!! Yuqi and Minnie also have written a couple songs from their past and newest album I NEVER DIE!!! And yes My Bag is their flex track we love it!! so my first exposure to them was today, with their Tomboy comeback!! and i am OBSESSED. something about them...i think it's the self-producing thing, because (G)I-dle has hit me the same way Stray Kids hit me, and i think it's because each group seems to be their own genre of music, different from the rest of kpop.
    i also see a lot of lgbt+ subtext in their work so far. i LOVE your analysis of Oh My God- you picked up on the religious themes immediately with the imagery and colors, which is amazing! i wasn't convinced until the direct lyrical references. I find Oh My God to be such a clear metaphor for queer sex/orgasm.
    i also get a lot of lgtbt+ subtext in the tomboy mv as well- in addition to the incredibly intelligent analysis that you've done!

    I LOVE your interpretation of 'Oh my god'! It really is a very poetic song, and one that can have multiple meanings. But I think Soyeon's original intention when she wrote this song was very much like what you said, which is looking deeper into oneself and seeing all the things that are "dark" or, in her rap, considered by society to be a "sin" but in the end accepting all of that anyway. The "she" originally refers to that deeper/other part of themselves.
    A lot of people also interpret this as a forbidden love kind of thing between two women, which also makes A LOT of sense.

    Soyeon, the leader and rapper, has written and produced most of their songs (all title tracks included) and recently Minnie and Yuqi have also started writing and producing for them, if you check out their albums you should definitely see the credits because those two have made some amazing b-sides :)

    Soyeon, the main rapper is significant because every song you listened to here is her work, she's credited in the majority of idles discography. And the missing member, Soojin was excluded from group activities in August after being accused of bullying 10 years ago(when she was 14), her contract was released only about a week or two ago after a police investigation (I personally find it dumb that she was removed for things that happened when she was a kid, i'd feel different if the accusations were within the last few years, but the Korean public wasn't happy with her)

    Loved this reaction. They do have a part in the writing and production so their music can be more personal. From what I understand of Oh My God is that it's a prayer-like song regarding each character's individual struggles with temptation and how the outside world judges them for it. Some of them overcome the negativity, others struggle with guilt and being torn between what they want and what they believe to be a sin and being shunned for it by society and one pays the ultimate price in the end.

    Oh My God is about the stigma of gay/lesbian relationships in their culture and others obviously, Minnie is growing insane with the desire for a woman but struggling with the "consequences" Yuqi walks in that dreamy corridor like to her this woman/woman relation is so dreamy. Miyeon Shows the more "innocent" side of the relation ship. Soojin shows the aspect of the sensuality and seductiveness.
    Soyeon from the starts seems to be accepting the fate of it all and "walking towards it". Then her rap part literally shows that she embraces it even with the stigma/consequences. Then you see her in some mudd/blood wich represents some kind of rebirth into a fully acceptence of who she is.
    The only part im not 100% about is Shuhua.

    • @paulamaria3962
      @paulamaria3962 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Shuhua's part is represented more by the background colours. White for purity and innocence, her not falling into temptation. And the waves of purple being the same as Soojin's background (Soojin is the one who tempts them) so she is falling in love hence Shuhua's lyric "fall in love". There is another scene with Soojin pulling Shuhua for a kiss(or just pulling her close) witch also has purple background

    Soyeon's verse in Lion ALWAYS gives me goosebumps. Without fail.

  • @literalcyborg3723
    @literalcyborg3723 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My personal interpretation of Oh My God has always been about lesbianism in relation to religion. A lot of people think the song is about obsession, but it think that from a different perspective, it can be more of a love song. The first lines of the song seem sweet, “beneath the dazzling sky covering my eyes, I run into your arms,” before it transitions to Soyeon’s verse where she begs to be set free. This, to me, feels like the beginning of her self-realization, when she’s only just figured out that she’s in love with another woman and she’s terrified because she’s only ever been taught that it’s sinful to be queer. Then the lyrics transition to an internal debate. “You destroy my reason and let yourself in,” the speaker here is blaming the woman she’s fallen for. “Dangerous and yet I want to own it and hold onto this pain,” here she’s realizing how badly she wants this love. And the chorus, of course, is just detailing the way that this newfound love is making her feel things she’s never felt before. Soojin’s verse is where she starts to accept herself a bit and enjoy her new relationship. Soyeon’s rap is her panic as she realizes she isn’t supposed to love women and she contemplates wether it’s worth it to go to hell for this love, eventually deciding to abandon her fear of sin in order to love the woman she wants to be with. Miyeon’s verse is her wondering how this beautiful woman she’s in love with could ever possibly be evil and Yuqi’s verse is her choosing to get burned in the name of love. Shuhua’s verse is her full self-acceptance, ending with my favorite line, “and whatever people say, fall in love”.

      the lion holds the image of power, strengh and dominance, while the lionesses do hunt it is the male that protects the group (called a "Pride") and the females are submissive to him, theres only one "father" or alpha male in a group, the rest of the males are his children and they get expelled as soon as they reach the age when they wanna mate. When a leading lion loses its alpha position (in a fight) the winning lion either kills it or expels it, then kills all his male children in front of the mothers and proceeds to copulate with them to ensure is his blood lineage that is passed

    yeah... Soyeon, the rapper, writes most of their songs. I've never heard such a strange interpretation for "oh my god". Maybe I misunderstood you. But the lyrics literally say what it is about. The most common interpretation is something like this: Its about sin and temptation (red standing for lust, passion, desire, black for corruption and white for innocence, purity). The central line being "She (!) took me to the sky ... she showed me all the stars". Most of the members lyrics are in the vein of: "nothing can pull me away from your embrace ... you may be poison, but sure as hell taste like honey... losing all my senses when you pull me close... I can't control this desire". Only Sojiin (the blonde girl with the purple background) has lines like: "baby, baby If you rush into me (!), come in, make me make me" and she is shown at one point holding an apple (biblical reference) as well as whispering during the bridge into the ear of one of the other members, pulling her closer. So... Soojin is the temptation or the sin and the other girls are in different states of falling for her, "letting (her) in". The LGBT community has gone crazy for this song ;)

    Idle is a completely Self-produced group, they write, produce and compose all their music. Along with proposing/directing the concepts and visual designs for all their Music Videos, they don’t only have a hand in the creation process, they are the process. Their leader Soyeon, she has written and produced most of their discography, all the songs you reacted to here are hers. Then we also have Minnie and Yuqi who also write, produce and compose, their songs are mostly part of the b-sides for their albums. We call them the ‘Producer Line.’ This group is incredibly talented and although they get some support from their agency, is very much them who carry the group. Thankfully the agency give them the creative freedom, because they have proved themselves with hit after hit. They are not afraid to touch on deep and even controversial topics in their writing. 16:00 are you a genius of some shit? That's exactly it. The album this is from is called I Trust. It is literally about finding self trust. Damn, you got it.
    Also,edit* Oh My God was interpreted by many to be about a relationship with a girl and the 'sin' of that.
    But, the meaning they gave (if you look in the mv description, there is a whole explanation), was them battling with in themselves and trying to come to terms with the dark parts of them, with the 'she" being themselves.
    Soyeon wrote a great song indeed.

  • @razzishot
    @razzishot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I just watched your reaction for the first time and I'm actually pretty late haha but I have to say that you're really smart! The way you explained Tomboy was really nice and it could have that kind of meaning but in reality it talks about something deeper. The song and probably the whole album have to do with ex Idle member (Soojin).
    As we can see at 31:49, Minnie mentions a tattoo and Soojin is known for having a few tattoos done. At 32:07, if you pay attention you can hear Soojin's adlibs while Soyeon is singing which means that this specific "why are you cranky boy" part was going to be Soojin's (they recorded the song last year near the end of winter and Soojin was still kind of part of the group so she was probably part of the recording as well). Soyeon who also writes/produces most of Idle's songs, was smart and left Soojin's adlibs so we know which parts she would've gotten if she was still in the group and im also guessing she left them there because she wants to show that Idle will always be six and because the song would feel pretty empty without hearing at least a little bit of her voice in it. I personally wondered why the song doesn't sound that empty without Soojin but that's when i realized the adlibs in the background and I understood.
    Now, at 34:14, Soyeon speaks about the allegations made against Soojin "Sometimes we swear without cigarettes, I like to eh on drink and whiskey i won't change it what the hell", (An actress accused Soojin of smoking, drinking and also bullying her but don't worry none of this is true, later the actress said that she wasn't even sure if Soojin was part of the group that bullied her and yet destroyed such talented Idol's career.. I'm not even gonna talk about this actress but Soojin literally had to beg her father to become an idol and I can't imagine how she feels now that she got kicked out.) Soojin admitted of smoking once or a few times but she never bullied anyone or anything like that. Plus, she was still in what.. middle school? High school? We all make stupid mistakes in life, especially at scuh age yet the company was soooo dumb and kicked her out, they really can't handle scandals and always destroy their idols instead of protecting them. No wonder the girls made a whole album talking about this situation, they're mad and it shows.
    You can also see that she says "I like to dance, I love my friends" and that's no coincidence because Soojin was Idle's main dancer hence why she likes to dance and of course she loves her friends a lot. Also, something i pointed out is that, the whole mv has colors like red, that could just be because of the concept but red is also Soojin's color so that's another thing to pay attention to. Last but not least, I forgot where but Soyeon mentions having FIVE members with her or something like that so let's count that in. The girls loved Soojin a lot and I' pretty sure Soojin did too. It's sad that such talent went to waste, I just wish they could move to another company and be together again.
    Something that worries me is that Soojin is nowhere to be seen, no one has seen her outside or anywhere at all, she doesn't even have any social media so no one knows what has happened with her, let's just hope she's doing fine and recovering from all of this because she looks like a very sensitive person, this might've literally been traumatic for her at some point. I remember one time when she was live and a miserable, ugly person made a comment on her face saying that she looked ugly and a few seconds later Soojin just ended the live, she looked really sad. It's such a shame idols have to go through so much. For example, the lyrics of Tomboy also talk about breaking free and doing whatever you want, act and talk however you want. It's not really about the styling/dressing. You know when people say things like "sit like a lady" "talk like a lady" "act like a man" and stuff but that's so stupid isn't it? There's literally no thing such as "sitting like a lady" or "acting like a man" and that's basically another thing they're trying to prove with this song.
    I'm sorry for the very long paragraphs but i hope this made sense because i feel like an explanation like this, especially for new Idle fans, was needed. Have a good day/night! 💖

    gidle are the group that have everything for me. My fav group since day 1 they debuted.
    Soyeon have been on many survival show such as 'unpretty rapstar' and 'produce101' . people judge heri voice her cace, but what i saw is she never giveup, mostly all gidle song composed by her. she's full of ideas that people can't expect.
    Minnie voice are so underrated , but everytime she's singing i always get goosebumps. I really like 'Dahlia' by gidle. all songs in hwaa album really really good. Miyeon when she's singing ballad , she really shine but not everyone saw it. the fact she's one of blackpink lineup before bp debuted. Soojin dancing and expression OMG THIS ONE ! no one can replace her gaze , her movement when dancing, she's a diamond but the company didn't save her. I'm so sad she got into bully scandal (there's no proof) but she left the group 😭 Shuhuaaaa for me is the one who make this group always happy. Her existence is perfect hahaha. I cant describe her. I love her expression, they way shuhua talk, they way she dance. Shes sooo elegant innocent sexy cutie hahaha
    Lastly they all crackhead and so chaos 😭😂 No one can stop them being crazy HAHAHAHA. You can just watch any variety show and youll understand this 😂

    the rapper is actually Jeon Soyeon, one of the best rappers in K-pop (the best in girl groups in my opinion). she also writes Idle's songs and is one of the producers of the group, I'm such a fan!

    Wow ur Oh my god interpretation is sooooo good!!!
    The song uses light and dark, purity and sin elements - to communicate the the idea that true divinity comes from knowing and trusting yourself hence the album title “I-Trust”. Oh my god, she took me to the sky," " Oh my god, she showed me all the stars," Minnie says is to leave the viewers wondering to whom are they referring - to themselves, or to love itself, which is a common motif across (G)I-IDLE’s discography And Soyeon also said "I didn't want to limit that 'she' to a certain being or a certain definition," she says. "So it's open to anything. I believe that all kinds of love are valuable and must be respected. That's why I don't want to limit 'she' to something specific."

    So, the song ‘Tomboy’ is actually pretty much a diss to the stereotypes of Korea and as their original name is (G)I-DLE, the G in it stands for girl. In the song they sing “Just me IDLE” leaving the G because the stereotypes are that they should be girly and perfect, but gidle breaks this and shows they also have a masculine side. Then, a lot of people hated on Soyeon’s rap in the song because it was so random. But it’s actually about the accusations of their former member Soojin (who was kicked out). She was accused of bully!ng, @ss@ult, th€ft, under@g€ dr!nk!ng and sm0k!ng. The lyrics include most of these: “sometimes we swear without c!g@rette$” “I like to $€x” (uncensored version) “on drinking wh!skey”. (SORRY FOR ALL THE CENSORED WORDS HERE!!!) The fans said that the lyrics don’t make any sense which proves the point that Soojin’s allegations also didn’t make sense. This is as much as I know but there probably also is more meaning to the song.

    In the second , without censored version Minnie is singing "I'm a fucking Tomboy" and Soyeon "I love to sex" and Miyeon "people say I'm a crazy bitch" probably.

    Fist of all, I'm so glad that you got into (G)-I-DEL, they are my second favourite group in Kpop, I love their massages so much and Soyeon (the rapper) is just a genius I love her, I think she help writing and producing most of their songs!
    Second, 10:25 I think that's amazing it is not embarrassing at all! I think it's so great that you have your strength from within and lions were always an example of strong creature who can't be taking down easily, this can totally be your song! I love you, your work, and I think you are really smart and I hope for you to be someday somewhere suitable for someone like you.
