Soyeon wrote NXDE as criticism on how much women are sexualized, especially in the entertainment industry (hence all the marilyn monroe, banksy, saloon girls, and other references in the mv). also, when you looked up g-idle it said idle (aidul) translates to child in korean, Soyeon named the song nude so if pedos were to search "nude children", their mv and other g-idle related things would pop up instead of the pervs getting what they want. They're different because they're self produced. This give them a so unique and various style, different from most of mainstream k-pop groups.
In "Oh my god" where Soyeon is rapping about paying the piper, she's probably referencing the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The Pied Piper is a story about this guys who was supposed to lure all these rats out of a town, but then no one wanted to pay him so he lured all the children out of the town as punishment. It kind of makes sense in the context of this song since it's all about being tempted or lured plus the slight religious context of this song (referencing like the idea of sin plus the debatable LGBTQ context of this song).
i think probably the reason they are different from other girl groups is because they actually MAKE THEIR OWN STUFF fr, all songs have different meanings and most of them are produced by soyeon their leader
(G)-idle is one of the best girl groups ever in 4th. Their concepts , their meanings , their raps , their vocals , their dance & so on
some facts abt nxde:
1. in nxde, soyeon is wearing a bullet bra/torpedo bra. bullet bras were popular especially back in the wartime era of the 1940s/50s as women wore them while working in factories to protect themselves from injuries. they weren't just for working women tho, as they were also a fashion statement piece, often worn by notable celebrities, namely marilyn monroe. nxdes concept is based off of her which is why soyeon is wearing one.
2. the song sampled in nxde is Habanera, an aria from Georges Bizet's 1875 opéra comique Carmen. it's a popular piece, which is why it sounded familiar.
Didn't Madonna wear a bullet bra in one of her mvs in the late 80s or early 90s?
Also the story behind lion is really cool. They were competing on a music show and one of the categories that everyone had to do was an original new song. The company that gidle is under had absolutely nothing prepared for them and left them high and dry. So instead of taking that. Soyeon(the leader and main rapper) worked really hard and produced lion.

I recomend you to listen to BIBI, she's a soloist and really under rated, i rarely see people reacting to her. She is super talented and is personally my fav of all time. Its a bit different than kpop, i think its K-RNB. the thing that makes idle so different is that they write compose, produce and also are the creative directors for their music. Soyeon, the rapper and leader is the most credited woman in 4th gen with 81 credits with her members Yuqi (deep voice) and Minnie (bangs) each having 11 and 13 respectfully. She is genuinely a visionary icon and makes sure that their music features important messages that are delivered through costumes, concept pics, music videos, lyrics as well as promotion, not to mention she has written for other artists and has been praised by legends in the industry numerous times, winning her the best songwriter award at the 2022 MMAs. All of the girls have a say in their music and their creative direction however so each comeback is truly a group effort and it pays off. They are incredible performers, and like you said they use their faces in such an expressive way so I think it might be interesting for you to see some of their live stages, especially their 2022 MMA and Mama performances as well as having a look at their put it straight Nightmare version dance practice/performance. Their US debut EP "HEAT" is out this friday, october 5th, with the title track "I want that", it is an entirely English album under another label so they haven't participated in creating the songs this time, however some major names in the industry such as Ryan Tedder and Meghan Trainor have written for them. One of the songs "I DO" was released in july as a prerelease and the MV is also out.
Fun fact : Soyeon wrote the song nxde to raise awareness for cp in korea. So when disgusting men would search “aibeul nxde” which means “nxde children” and aibeul is pronounced as aideul (idle in korean) (G) I-DLE would pop up instead. the word "tomboy" is used in a derogatory way in korean. when a girl acts too 'manly' aka speaking up for herself etc (korean society is insanely patriarchal) they would call the girls tomboy and make fun of them. near the end soyeon says "you get the song right? you get what i mean tomboy" basically telling us she's not referring to the tomboy that we know but rather what is used in korea. they're basically reclaiming it and making it something empowering instead :)) same with queencard. its mainly used for popular girls to kinda make fun of them but in the song they reclaim it and make it something, again, empowering

She was part of g idle until she got kicked out like as “bullying” her school friend, so she got kicked out. Tomboy story - Her friend soojin was on a date, she got poisoned and he killed her. That woman next to him is SOYEON, she poisoned him also and hanged him up for a revenge.

Yep, I would argue they really are "the Stray Kids of the girls", and vice versa could be true as well, since they debuted around the same time! They are one of the most hands-on groups to exist in kpop, three of the members produce and write most of their music, and Soyeon (leader) also chooses the whole concept and aesthetics. I'm a big fan of both and I would say they actually are similar in many great aspects, so yeah, no harm intended, but I see why you would see it as a bad terminology
It’s really very normal for a person to compare a new thing they discover to a thing they’re already familiar with. It’s a point of reference. We will naturally notice similarities and contrasts to things we know well, in their case Stray Kids. It’s also the way we categorise things in our minds, like things with like things.
The reason these 2 groups are comparable is simple: they both produce their own music, they both try a wide range of genres and concepts and they stand out from the crowd and aren’t afraid to be themselves within the industry that tends towards cookie cutter groups or systems. It’s the reason both these groups are my ults and the reason I found and continue listen to K-pop daily. Most other groups don’t compare, but these two certainly do.

"Oh my God" is a beautiful representation of lesbian relationship story. It's about forbidden, sinful and lustful. Minnie being dragged at the beginning means the attitude of the society towards gay people throughout the history, to the extent of locking them in asylums.
