soyeon is a real legend, she produces and writes most of their stuffs, also has a strong opinion about their concepts and i saw somewhere when they were training cube gave them the same voice coach and soyeon noticed that the coach was making their voices sound similar and making the girls loose their uniqueness so she talked with the company and changed that, you can see that all the girls has a different tone, especially yuqi with her deep voice

Soyeon auditioned more than 20 times to various companies and was repeatedly turned down and told she was too ugly to be an idol. Now she’s a legend and has more perfect all kills than any girl group in history with her own songs she wrote and produced. Absolute queen. Best girls in the world.

Cube Entertainment was initially hesitant to approve of Nxde as the comback title but Soyeon pushed for it because she wanted to change how the word Nude was viewed. She wanted to break the stereotype that word nude was something sexual and make it be seen as being your true self. It's also helping stop searches for illicit videos and photos. In South Korea, the production, consumption, or distribution of pornography is illegal. This has meant that nonconsensual pornographic videos of women and children are common. The word '(G)I-dle's nude' has had inappropriate keywords such as "child nude" and "girl nude". The name (G)I-dle '(여자)아이들' in Korean comes from girl '여자' and children '아이들'. Although the song is stylized as 'Nxde', it is still written out in Korean as '누드' or Nude. The inappropriate keywords were replaced with '(G)I-dle Nxde' or '(G)I-dle nude' so when someone searches on social media the group’s Korean name or the word “children” (아이들), along with “nude” or “nxde,” (G)I-DLE and their content will now automatically come up instead of illegal, illicit photos.
Also, it became the first song by a K-pop girl group to make an American radio debut with a title song centered on Korean lyrics.

When I first listened, to me it sounded like the temptation of Lilith, but I can definitely see it interpreted in different ways.

The English version is a pretty explicit lesbian anthem, and while Soyeon is not the most fluent speaker, Yuqi and Minnie are. Her response was crafted for a Korean audience, so as to not get censored or cancelled by local religious zealots, but she knew exactly what she was doing.

as a sapphic Kpop fan, I couldn't interpret the lyrics of Oh my god any differently. It's literally about falling in love bc its irresistible even though you shouldn't, bc its a sin (and the 'she' pronouns make it... pretty clear). I honestly thought it was groundbreaking and its definitely one of my favorite Kpop songs... Soyeon is brave for writing a song like that, especially in a country like Korea and especially in an industry like Kpop. Some people interpret the lyrics differently, but to me its pretty clear.
well considering that the black version of the album is truth and the white is the lie I feel like its hard to interpret it any other way! their truth is what they have been told is wrong! but the name of the album is i trust because its about them trusting themselves in who they are. Then they followed Oh My God up with Tomboy. I think (and I very well could be wrong because I don’t even remember where I heard it from) that Tom is a Thai slang (thought to derive from English word Tomboy) for a masculine woman who is typically sapphic inclined. At least the ‘neither man nor woman’ line combined with the title makes me think about that Thai slang. It very well could just be about the typical meaning of tomboy, but there is a Thai member so….

Speaking of League of Legends: Soyeon and Miyeon are featured as artists in the virtual Kpop group called K/DA. The group itself is based on female characters from the game. Soyeon is Akali and Miyeon is Ahri. The songs they’re a part of are Pop/Stars, More, and The Baddest. You should check them out, b/c the videos are amazing.

Yes! Definitely check them out! Soyeon's Akali raps are how I discovered kpop! 🔥🔥🔥 I play League too, so that's how I found KDA and then Gidle and the rest is history 😅 Soyeon is also in their virtual hip hop group (Akali features in both groups) called True Damage, as far as I know they've only released one song called Giants. Love that one too.

@@CreateNColour I found K/DA through my husband’s Occulus, playing Beat Saber lol. I was only listening to 1 kpop group at the time (Verivery), so this opened another door, plus I knew nothing about LoL. The cinematics are incredible. Akali is my favorite and I truly believe it’s b/c of Soyeon.

Nobody mentions the former 6th member Soojin who was unfairly kicked out because of allegations of bullying. It was all BS of course and it broke everyone's heart especially Baby Shuhua who is very attached to Soojin. Soojin and Soyeon co handled Idle and Soojin is like the mother of the group. The animated character in Nude is Soojin. Sad and idiotic state of affairs in the Kpop world.
The thing that is fantastic about Idle is that they are unconventional and unpredictable, just like Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher. Another 2 groups I highly recommend.
My three favorite girl groups in kpop ❤❤❤ love MAMAMOO, Dreamcatcher and I-DLE... I Miss Soojin so much!! And i i wonder how could have been Tomboy and Nxde with her.

Random fun fan theory a lot of people think that the animated girl in "Nxde" is supposed to be Soojin or represent Soojin because she has a lot of her features, such as plump lips, seductive eyes and including a mole right under her eye. Soojin was also a big fan of Marlyin Monroe which this mv references a L O T, Marlyin Monroe is pretty much everywhere.
You should definitely listen to the English version of Oh my God then. Also, listen for the uncensored CD version of TOMBOY as well lmao As for Nxde, it's named that way because I-DLE in Korean is spelt the same way as 'children', so if people try to search up 'children' 'nxde', instead of explicit photos of children coming up, this song comes up instead which I thought was genius honestly. Soyeon who composes and produces all their songs is one hell of a lyricist and has one hell of a vision.

Every time he says "she's so beautiful" i feel validated and happy, especially soyeon, since all her pre-debut in survival shows and Unpretty Rapstar she used to get a lot of hate for being not conventionally beautiful and it was even the reason she got rejected from many agencies she applied to despite her talent. I really love that.

about nxde, cube was against the concept at first but soyeon persisted and they accepted but gave a low budget to make the mv soyeon fought for it and made them increase lol, and now is one of their biggest hit with only a month
What the company almost gave a low budget for nude? They don't even have a successful group than g idle and they want to make it a low budget mv, where will they spend their money when they don't even have any group😂😂
Every concept is soyeon's idea. She came up with the title name "nude" but the company thought it was too sexual so she had to censor it. Soyeon always goes against the company and she is never afraid to do something different.
I love these girls so much. I think what I admire most about them is that they make their own music. Soyeon is literally a genius, the mastermind of their discography. Also Minnie and Yuqi started producing and they are amazing.
RJ , you are very perceptive the chorus is the detail it has to do with a woman loving another woman! SoYeon is the leader of the group as well as the majority song writer and producing of a lot of their music! Go explore more into this group they are the ones that push the envelope they will talk about subjects that other K-pop girl idol groups will not talk about! Freedom to express themselves and the issues that they talk about in their music is very provocative profound and daring and I give these girls all my respect because they happen to be one of my favorite girl groups if not in my top three so please do some more of their music!
About Oh My God, I think yes, it's pretty clear to me that it's wlw. Soyeon explained that the imagery represents love in its many forms, "I didn't want to limit that 'she' to a certain being or a certain definition" "So it's open to anything. I believe that all kinds of love are valuable and must be respected". All the mentions to temptation, sin, desire, the religious imagery, how they go from white (innocence/purity) to being reborn in red (love/ passion/sin)...it all makes me believe it has to be queer

I would seriously be as far as to say that GIdle is one of the most legendary girl groups to ever have happened to the k-pop industry. And been a fan of Jeon Soyeon since her girls planet days, im so so proud of her. She was seriously born to be a star.

However, with the clip, fans went deeper into an analysis that presents a homosexual romance between the characters played by the members of (G)I-DLEA member Yuqi initially represents purity, untouched, but that is about to give way against her principles and surrender to that feeling: in her first verses, the girl seems confused in a hallway, having visions with Soojin. i'm soooo happy you finally reacted to them. gidle is my ult and their music is just incredible, soyeon is a genius (one of the many reasons for which she's my ult bias). and yes! you got the lyrics of oh my god right. soyeon said that it's up to intepretation but "all kinds of love should be respected".
tomboy was their first song after soojin left due to fake bullying allegations. the album is called "i never die" to prove that they can rebuild their fame and reputation even after something like that happened to them. (and tomboy was definitely their most succesful song ever!)
nxde is a tribute to marilyn monre (who also happened to be soojin's role model), soyeon said the message is "id rather be hated for who i am, than be loved for someone i am not". honesty so beautiful and "out of the norm" as you said. they're incredible.
soyeon writes, composes and produces pretty much all of their music and she has control over so much stuff (she can convince the company to let her do anything, even naming their song "nxde"). she is the best leader ever and one of the best, if not THE best, rappers in kpop imo!

You're not wrong. Oh My God is about a woman succumbing to another woman in a forbidden relationship. Soyeon said it was up to interpretation in order to cover her butt. Because even though Knetz love LGBTQ fan service, they will hate you if it's real. South Korea is still a very conservative country and idols can't be overt in that topic.
Also, Soojin was literally ousted for no good reason. Originally accused of bullying WHEN SHE WAS 12 and it turned out there was no proof but Knetz love being judge, jury and executioner and Cube didn't have Soojin's back.
She was crucified in the court of public opinion. And even without proof they still blacklisted her. So her career is over. In Tomboy and other tracks going forward (especially in Nxde) you will see and hear references to Soojin. As much as we miss her, the girls miss her even more.

They performed Tomboy in their opening for the MMAs very recently and they did the uncensored version and I was shaking LOL Never been done at a Korean award show. They're already such a legendary group. They aren't afraid of pushing the boundaries of the k-pop industry. They want to change it and they aren't afraid to take the first step. They're honestly my favorite kpop group because they have always spoken their mind and been open with their fans.
Definitely check out more from them as well as the League Of Legends kpop group that Soyeon and Miyeon have been in. K/DA has 6 songs now? They're in 3 of them; POP/STARS, MORE, and The Baddest. It was originally just a promo for a popstar skin line for the characters in-game. Then POP/STARS went viral and the rest is history lol

Some things to know before going deep into (G)I-DLE
Soyeon created Latata because CUBE Entertainment couldn't give them a suitable debut song, she was 19 yo at that time (almost 20) but it was just the starting of our journey !
She then created and (co)produced almost every single song and every song used as a main song (Title Track) are Soyeon's creation.
As for today, counting the last comeback (I Love), there is only one song where Soyeon didn't took part in any kind of way and it's Polaroid created and (co)produced by Yuqi.
Soyeon is always involved at least in the lyrics because she can't rap a line/verse that she didn't herself wrote:
- Because she think rappers should write their stuff,
- And also because she want to express her feeling through her writing.
All of (G)I-DLE members have somehow unique voices, Soyeon wasn't ok with the other members' voice coaches because they wanted them to be generic for the K-POP industry (if I understood correctly), but she thought that their atypical voices would be the group' strength.
Nowadays we have a producer line, Soyeon (ofc), Minnie and then Yuqi.
Minnie always had the idea to produce song as well, so she come out with "Blow your mind", which is a b-side from "I Made" their 2nd Mini album, she created it alongside with Soyeon, she then created other songs (Moon,Dahlia etc...).
Yuqi then join in the producer line too, with the co-created/produced (alongside Minnie) song "I'm the Trend" which is seen as Nevies anthem. Neverland being the fandom name of (G)I-DLE.
We now have 3 capable producer, that can make fire in the future and we saw it threw the album "I Never Die" or before that the album "I Burn"
With "I Never Die"'s comeback Miyeon voiced her growing desire to write and produce songs too, so maybe next comeback we will have a Miyeon production too !
Soyeon released her first solo album on July 5th, 2021 which is named "Windy", the album show a different side of her. A more bubbly and bright person that she aspire to be more.
"Beam Beam" being the title track, is bright have some rock aspect that really match the summer.
She also have a collaboration with BIBI and Lee Youngji which are korean rappers, one the song "Is this bad b***** number" which I really recommend listening to.
Yuqi did her solo debut in 2021 with "Giant" and "Bonnie and Clyde", she also used to be in "Learn Way: Season 1" also known as "Learn Wave" during 2020.
Her solo debut show how deep and attractful her voice is, I highly recommend listening to it.
She writed and produced "Giant".
Minnie started her actress career with "So not worth it" in 2021 as well which is a Netflix' series.
She also had a lot of model shoot during this year.
She was feated in a Thai' song "Money Honey" alongside F.HERO and URBOYTJ.
Miyeon released her first solo album "MY" on April 27th, 2022. It was a long awaited album from many fans and showcase how beautiful her vocal really is. It is a soothing and appeasing album.
The album have "Drive" as it's title track which is a really ray of sunshine, the album on it's own is a very healing time to listen to.
She wrote her first song in her solo debut's mini album "MY", with the song "Rain" which was produced by Yuqi as a gift to her.
Unfortunately Soojin got caught in a bully scandal, which became viral because she got accused by an actress, which lead her to not being active from February 2021 to August 2021, then leaving (G)I-DLE but staying under Cube Entertainment from "August 2021"
After bringing the police to the table and juridic case, it was difficult to prove whether the opposite side lied or not or whether Soojin was a bully or not since the event occurred 10-12 years ago... Which lead Soojin leaving Cube Entertainment at the beginning of March 2022.
(I will not take position on this, I'm only LARGELY summarising)
"Hwaa" was released January 11 2021 and since that date we didn't had group's comeback for 1 year and 2 months (I don't count "Last dance" since it's a promotional song for "Universe") and every member took a break and focused more on solo stuff. Foreigner line (Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua) going back in their countries.
I will not come across everything they had done during 2021/early 2022 but it's mind blowing.
Until now 2022 was a really booked year for them, wanting to compensate for the lost time they worked really hard this year.
They release their first full album with "I Never Die" in March 14th, then got booked with a lot of variety shows, brand apparition, cooperation with other artists in those two matter as well.
Then they booked their first ever World Tour, which started the 18th of June in Seoul and finished October 1st in Singapore.
With all the hard work done during this year we couldn't hope for more, but then they released their newest comeback: "I Love".
With this comeback they shut every people thinking they were a "One Hit Wonder", they got lots of PAK once again, and are currently being at the TOP2-3 of every chart in Korea, they also multiply their sales by almost 5.
They are the first group after Twice (2016) to bag PAK with two songs in the same year and one of the 4 K-Pop act to do so, they are also the Girl Group with most PAK in history to this day and they did it with their own color and message.
Which once again show the dedication they have for their musics.
Fellow Nevies just remember that opening fan war isn't necessarily, (G)I-DLE was always seen as black horse but in the end they always come up with good stuff.
We know what they are made of, and we just need to put our hands and mind to support them, our Queens !

Lots of info but what is going on with the USA not getting CD releases & promote by them? Their Newest cd (and last cd with Tomboy) nowhere to be found in US stores. (G)idle not releasing Tomboy (or creating an English version for radio play) is CRAZY! That song would probably do well in the US & others english speaking countries. Do they not have a US record label?
@@eejeej6363 They don’t have one right now, at some point they were under Republic Records but they are no longer under it. Either the contract ended or it was cut short. Nothing has been announced regarding it so it’s hard to give more details but they are no longer listed under them.
To be fair, I-DLE took a year+ long hiatus like I explained, I purposely think they aimed to regain/gain the GP audience. However Soyeon voiced her interest to now aim for the international audience next year.

I rarely stan new girl groups but I love gidle because they're different, always give something different each comeback.
Soyeon is brilliant, her creativity and imagination are off the hook. She always develops interesting and unique story lines and delivers them in such an artful way. GIDLE has been vastly underrated. But after LION, then OH MY GOD, then TOMBOY, now NXDE I feel this is going to be their year for big time recognition. When it comes to kpop gg's, for me it's Blackpink, then Mamamoo, then GIDLE, then everyone else.
FYI, when it comes to K/DA League of Legends, Soyeon is the voice and likeness of Ahri and Miyeon is the voice and likeness of Akali.
Soyeon is a genius! You gotta check their Queendom stages (especially Lion & Put it Straight Nightmare version), Put it Straight Nightmare Version Performance Video, Lion, Hwaa, Hann, & Séniorita!
Idle is awesome and Soyeon is a genius. I miss Soojin, but I am so happy that they are getting their recognition.

FINALLY somebody who picked up on the sapphic lyricism of oh my god. i’ve seen countless people brush over the use of ‘she’ and talking about sin. in the comeback before oh my god, knetz called gidle ‘dirty lesbians’ for their concept, and then soyeon wrote oh my god to defy those knetz. she’s known for taking criticism and then defying those critics as much as possible. we love gidle.
I'll absolutely recommend you to check out their Queendom performances (the ones without other participants' reaction). They had 4 stages and ... It was just mind-blowing.
And the other recommendation to check out their last mini album - "I love" - but listen to it in reverse order (they presented songs in reverse way in their tracklist) cause I feel it gives even bigger impact when you start it from last track and finish with title track you already heard and will give you new view of latter.
people tend to hate soyeons rap in tomboy but its useless hate. it has a meaning.

“ i dont wanna play this ping pong” is not about the game ping pong, its about relationship like dating, breaking up, again dating.
“ your mama raised you as a prince, but this is queendom right?” if im not mistaken, they have a song “ lion” and is about queendom.
“ i like to dance” soojin was the main dancer in idle.
“ sometimes we swear without cigarettes” soojin was accused of smoking.
i dont really know anything else from this rap.
about the last part, yoh can see that when they open the car, some balloons fly. there are six balloons if you count which represent 6 members meaning gidle is ot6 always
and the name tomboy is representing soojin because she was a tomboy.
in nxde, they chose to represent marilyn monroe and how the word nude is sexualized.
marilyn monroe was soojin’s role model.
also in the mv you can see an animated girl that has plump red lips( soojins color) and a mole near her eye. soojin also had that

my reaction when i first heard nxde was the same for you music-wise, but when i listened to it more it became more and more addictive and i love the song now in addition to the message/mv haha! they are definitely unique and i love the messages in their music (we can largely thank soyeon for that). im a casual listener but theyre really cool! and yes it was soyeon that you kept pointing out haha

Soojin was unfortunately falsely accused of bullying allegation. A girl from her high school basically came out and said she bullied her and etc. That made big news and Cube Entertainment let her go and decided to continue Gidle with 5 members. Soojin took a break from kpop for multiple years and she just came back as a solo artist. She was one of the best charismatic idol there were.
"Oh my god" is literally soyeon's best works. Lyricism, concept, music, everything was perfect.

The sad thing is you have groups like *cough cough* at the front of kpop yet nowhere on g idle artistic, lyrical or concept level and it sad. They really deserve more. Their growth is amazing and each comeback they tackle something new. Something really new. They have come from young females and growing into stand up woman and I'm here for it. They have always had maturity about them but they are becoming more powerful in their messages recently 💙 also nude really spoke towards their soojin.
ugh i miss soojin so much, she was kicked out of her group by the company due to bullying allegations from years before when she was a child, they were proven false, but it was too late bc she had already left the group. Their company did nothing to help her.. we love soojin and all the girls! 🙌🏽
