    Cartoons on tv started focusing more on the future once the year 2000 hit. Suddenly there was a lot more space travel, time travel, aliens, and robots. Music that played on those channels and the clothes people wore in commercials and sitcoms followed trends from that time period. For being over 20 years ago, it still feels futuristic to me.

      Because frutiger aero was intentionally designed as a corporate art style to contrast against the oppressive media landscape in the early-ish iraq war period, and to offer technology as something not boring, but freeing.
      Metro was more of a reflection of reality because of the flat ui styles
      Then the recession hit and for a while no one wanted to have too much of stuff, or be overloaded because consumerism and over the top designs became less cool

I wear a lot of black by myself - I listen to metal music. But after those years of crazy shit in my life I wanna bring some colors back into my life. I have a prediction. I think the shift into complexity will probably be really slow. Curves and using nature are already coming back in style. Look at the living wall, succulent trends. Next is going to be wider color pallets, the rise in gradients and color themes, rather than dull simple colors, and more shapes, maybe more lines and abstractions too.

    The iMacs were the beginning of the whole Y2K Aesthetic imo. They came out in the late 90s right around the time Nintendo started doing the same thing with Game Boy Colors and N64 consoles. Being able to pick any color you wanted and having it be transparent really felt futuristic, not to mention the shape of the monitors for the iMacs were so cool! Plus you had the keyboard and mouse to match! That to me had a lot of influence over the design of a lot of tech back then, even knock off ones.

    fact is, the 3d style that frutiger aero and 2000's web design had WAS ALREADY IN VECTORS! a lot of companies just wanted a simpler, cheaper, and easier way to produce bigger portions of media in the same amount of time. for example
    1 frutiger aero icon can take the same amount of time as 10 flat icons. AND it can be done cheaper due to less recourses being used in the process.

    I feel like color gradients could become another big design trend, specifically for UI. Like the new Instagram logo for example. A mix of Frutiger Aero, flat design and color gradients could look great.

    One criticism I have about the video would be the title and thumbnail of the video. The video is a good dive into fruitger aero, but the title focuses more so on the aspect that frutiger aero is back. It makes the video feel detached from the main point the title and thumbnail gives off since it was only a small talking point at the very end of the video. Otherwise a good video!

    • @lukewilsontv
      @lukewilsontv  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m right there with you, the balance between clickbait and value is always in my mind when designing thumbnails/titles, and I actually had a more appropriate thumbnail for a bit but my click thru rate went down by about half, so I switched it back. Maybe I’ll switch it again if the viewcount or something else can make up for that 50%

    honestly the only time minimalism went hard was when windows first started changing all the icons on windows 10, the gradients were nice and it was detailed yet still minimal.

    iMacs also had nice wallpapers that were abstract and colorful, or photo realistic. A far lot better than what the Macs in the past had before it. Windows did the same thing with Windows XP. Add that to Windows updating their interface too!

    i think this newer approach of vector-based graphics that have depth (like windows 11 icons, glassmorphism, etc.) is great! a legitimate drawback of traditional skeumorphism is that it's hard to scale appropriately and hard to make dynamic on-screen. newer approaches bring back that character that skeumorphic interfaces had, which was lost with flat design.
    i think an interesting next step would be actual 3D icons and materials beyond just blurred backgrounds (metallic in VR, for example, or maybe refractive effects like those privacy screens on doors).

    No. The better comparison is: a raster image is more like how its seen. (At this point with the following coordinates you find color xy), while a vector image is basically an instruction Manual telling the Computer how to draw an image.
    Its similar to midi (the file Format for Sounds used by Synthesizers and consoles like the n64, snes, etc.) Versus Wave, mp3 etc.
    Wav, MP3 are a recording of the music to be played while MIDI gives the Computer the sheet music, telling him "go play these notes now"
