- With the exterior finally done, I focus my efforts on finishing up the insulation, wiring, and shiplap wall covering. Amazing what a difference it makes to get some finishing work done inside. The cabin already feels bigger!
Great work! You are building a place where family memories and friendships will be created. Truly priceless.
Took me weeks and week’s to tongue & Groove my 20x24 ft cabin. And with a helper.
Great looking place
Nurse clean design well done let's see what you do with the stairs forward approach with a small landing
Really enjoyed the video. Bought Blueprints many years ago for a 12\16 Cabin with a 8/16 front porch. I get them out about once a week. Plan to retire in a year and a half. You’ve given me lot’s of ideas. Thanks
Cabin is really building character. I enjoy your videos.
Thanks Randy!
I am going to insulate and put up ship lap in my 14 x 14 bunkhouse next spring and run permanent power to it and have a mini split installed. Same plan of horizontal ship lap and rock wool insulation. I may put a metal ceiling up so I am interested to see how yours goes up. Our bunkhouse serves as extra sleeping for when our daughter's families are here in Vermont with our 5 grandchildren. Everyone loves sleeping up in the bunkhouse and my wife and I sleep up there whenever they aren't here.
Hi Doug. Your place sounds great! I've seen the metal ceiling look, and like it, but have never done it myself. I guess we will both see how it works out. :-) Hope to get to that project soon!
Shiplap looks and has a warm feeling to the cabin.
Good job.
Coming out great ! Very productive trip ! Definitely going to have to get a stove and chimney in there so you can enjoy it during the winter too. Any other plans for other buildings on the property ? You’ve got us all hooked and I’m just wondering if you’ll have more projects and keep the channel going ? Selfishly asking because I enjoy what you’re doing ! Lol. Take care
Hey Tony....Thanks for watching! I'll definitely have other build projects on the property. Bath house, storage barn, pavilion, and eventually a larger off grid cabin for retirement. :-)
thanks for the time lapse on the boring parts !!
LOL! .......Shiplap and insulation will never be exciting. :-p Thanks for watching!
Great build. A little advice, COVER your windows. Prying eyes! If they don't know what's in there, it makes it a little less likely that someone will want IN! Wish it was not this way, but!
Looks great!!! That is a beautiful location !!!
Really enjoy your videos. Always happy to see them.
I appreciate that!
Keep up the good work, I can’t imagine how difficult it is to video while trying to get things done. I remodeled my boathouse this year, a race before docks come out.
Thanks Robert! It can be a pain to film, but it is always worth it when I complete a video and see how much progress I made. :-) Good luck with your own place. Winter is coming quickly!
Nice work. Just finished the insulation on my cabin. Time to hike in more material to finish off the inside and build some beds. Some times I wish I could get an atv into my place. Most times I am content that next to no one can get to my place other than hiking in :)
wow, what a difference that shiplap made, looks great! for 3 days and a one man show, you got alot of work done dude. you earned a steak dinner and a few beers👍. im in Roch hills eventually ill be up north full time probably around the Clare\Farwell area. i sold my cabin on big Norway lake and im regretting now.
Full time up north sounds like a great plan! Thanks for watching!
Looks great!
Thanks Eric!
You've done an excellent job and it looks amazing tiny lil heater will keep it warm enough during winter cause of all the insulation & air barrier 👍
Thanks 👍
if you do anything to the shiplap you might try watering down some white paint for a whitewash look and it will keep the cabin light inside
Thanks for the tip Richard! I may try that first and see how it looks. If all fails... then I can always paint white. :-)
Looking great. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I hate working with Rockwool so much. I wanted to peel my skin off. I wish it wasn't so good for insulation and soundproofing.
Great video!! Thanks
Glad you liked it!
It's too bad that you haven't really had the chance to just set back and enjoy your cabin, your lake front property, It's beautiful there.
Could you please add the link for some of the material you are using.
Great build
Hi Robert. Thanks for the suggestion. I will add a list of material links in my channel description before my next video. Thanks for watching!
Condensation might be a problem with that sheet metal on the ceiling.
It's really looking great. I am curious how you settle on 12 x 16. I would think you would like something a little bigger. I did read you are planning on a larger cabin later. It does look beautiful though, great job!!
I get asked this a lot as I'm building my own 12ft x 16ft cabin in a forest. My answer is that it's me who has to build it (no-one is building it for me) and all the materials need to be carried onto the site by hand. Smaller building, less work.
Also, 200 sq foot is the limit unless you wanna start all that ‘PERMIT’ stuff ! 12’x16’ is 192 sq ft I believe and 14’x14’ is 196’
When doing the insulation are you insulating for a hot roof or have vents? Noticed the black plastic along the roof line in-between the roof rafters.
What laser level are you useing? Do you find its bright enough being red and not green?
I think that your plans for the walls and ceiling might be too 'cold' in appearance. I suggest leaving at least one gable wall wood tone. I would use the end wall you look at as you enter. It will also make the place feel larger. Love it so far.
Thanks for the tips!
@@echoesupnorth2367 and it is your place and you should decorate your way. My apologies for the pushy comment.
How far away is your cabin from home? It looks great-alot of hard work, but it will be fantastic! Lucky you!
Hi Jodie, Its about 5 1/2 hrs from home, but I travel to my company's head quarters often, and it is only a short 3 hr drive from there. Thanks for following along!
Great job. Are you going to put a stove in?
I do have plans to put in a small stove next year. Looking at the cubic mini's. Thanks for watching! cubicminiwoodstoves.com/
How high are your walls
I've yet to hear of a "vapor permeable "barrier used on the inside of a living space. Why would you want moisture to penatrate into an outside wall? From either side. Tyvek on the outside...plastic on the inside.
Water (moisture) getting in from where?
Tyvek prevents moisture from getting into a wall from the outside. Tyvek is also designed to allow moisture in a wall to escape. Most structures have some kind of "moisture barrier " on the inside of the exterior walls. This minimizes moisture getting into an exterior wall...causing condensation...mold issues.
It would of had been better if you put drywall on the walls and wood on the ceiling!
