Saudi Arabian hospitality has to be seen to be believed. Our friend and Couchsurfing host, Moh took us out to experience the red dunes of the Saudi Arabian desert just outside Riyadh and this is what happened!
Khururrah Lake is a seasonal lake near to Riyadh that is formed during the winter rains. It is a great place to experience the red sand dunes of the desert and to witness Saudi Arabian life as many city folk go out to enjoy the natural surroundings in winter.

You come to where our farm is located. I once received 2 British and 2 Spanish almost at the same spot in "al Kharrarah". They wanted to sleep on the dune and watch the sun rise.
You don't translate names e.g. like names of different kinds of dates. The kind you had with those youths is called " khelas ".
Al Karrarah isn't a lake, it is a rain reservoir. It becomes dry when the water evaporates like in summer.
If you have a chance to have a "falafel " sandwich again, try to add pickles, hot sauce ,fried eggplant and leaves of mints with your sandwich. Then tell me about the taste...
That's my comment for where I stopped at your video.

    Dates types: Ajwa
    - Anbara
    - Barhi: Highly seasonal and fragile, these yellow dates are often sold still attached to their branches. The dates are best enjoyed fresh (rather than dried), when they are crunchy and subtly sweet.
    - Khalas
    - Khudri: One of the most common varieties, these large, dark red dates have a sweet, flaky outer skin and a chewy flesh. They are the most commonly exported dates and are likely what will be offered at shops and hotel reception desks.
    - Mabroom
    - Safawi
    - Saghai
    - Sukary: These golden-colored dates grown in the Qassim region are named after the Arabic word for “sugar” and rightly so. The dried version often features a crunch of crystalized sugar on the outside and a soft, caramel-like interior.
    - Zahidi

Welcome to Saudi Arabia, and I hope you will spend a happy life in Saudi Arabia
Dates that you dipped in the Tahini sauce
    Khalas Maknooz date type
    Dates go through several stages
The first stage is the wet stage
    Sometimes it is called balah
At this stage, the color of the date changes from green to yellow, and in some cases to red According to the type and variety of dates
The texture of dates at this stage is similar to that of apples
In it you will find water, fiber, and some types of dates, a type called rutab barhi. It is preferable to eat it at this particular stage, and it tastes very delicious.
The other stage is the divisions
The manasif stage is when it turns from yellow to brown and the date begins its caramelization stage
This indicates that the date is ripe and it is time to pick it from the palm tree
At the end of the season, you find the markets teeming with many varieties or types of dates
The season of harvesting dates is often the summer season
Exactly in the month of August
The third stage is the stage of dates
Where the dates are completely transformed from yellow to brown in color and caramelized
This stage is sensitive and must be dealt with carefully so as not to lose this caramelized date and make it preserved and edible for a long time and have a delicious taste. From a kilo or more than a kilo, the dates are pressed with many packages on top of each other, and with pressure and heat, the entire product turns into a sticky date with caramelized date molasses on it, then it is sold in the markets, and it looks like the dates that I dipped in the tahini sauce, and it is of the type of khlas hoarded
This stage is called the Maknooz or
    preserved date
There are many different types of dates, and the most famous ones in Saudi Arabia are Khalas, Sukkari, and Saqai
And the type you like is a khlas Maknooz

I discovered part of the customs of Saudi Arabia that I did not expect anyone to discover because they are customs that occur during the rainy season or after it. Citizens and residents of other nationalities go to those wild places to enjoy the scenery and drink coffee and tea. In every area there is a place to gather. I am sure that the smell of rain with sand in Saudi Arabia It is charming and imaginary, and there is no one like it because of gaining that comfort from the sand, and also if there is a spring after the rains, it has a smell that we call it in the treatment of the soul
    Welcome, wonderful people♥♥♥♥🙏🙏🙏

It's heartwarming to hear about the gatherings in wild places, the enjoyment of scenery, and the shared moments over coffee and tea. The description of the unique aroma of rain and sand, bringing comfort to the soul, paints a vivid picture of the charm and tranquility that these moments bring. The reason why Saudi Arabian people are so welcoming is fascinating.. well, Saudi is a desert so when people are lost or need help they are more than happy to help because you're not just gonna find a river or a tree on your way. It's in their nature to help those in need it's so natural to them and I love it!

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yes i think you've hit the nail on the head there. Desert people understand all about hardship and are the first people to lend a hand if they possibly can. It's intrinsic in their nature. Even though many people are city dwellers now, hospitality and generosity is still in their nature. 💕

My dad was a frugal traveller when he was in his early twenties - way more frugal than you guys. He never ate out. He lived on bread and enough cheese under his thumbnail, scraped off the cheese just to flavour the bread a bit - would just lick it a bit between mouthfuls of bread! And he hitchhiked exclusively. Not sure what he did for accomodation, but I think there was a lot of people just putting him up. He had a lift on a boat once and ended up driving it as the boat owner got too pissed and passed out, I think? The water was rough and he said he was terrified. It would have been the 1960's. He looks back and says he can't belives how naive he was and put himself in a lot of danger on occasions. I'm also amazed he didn't suffer from malnutrition!

When the Prophet and companions would go out to defend themselves across the deserts against invading armies, they would only a date each to eat as they had little money and suffering boycotts and isolation for being muslim...they had only taste rice for first time when they went Busra in Iraq, after the Prophet Muhammad passed away

You have to put Arabic translation for the video. It will be better.

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  ปีที่แล้ว

We completely agree and have tried to do that. The best solution we found was:
      1. Viewer turns on CC - will be in English
      2. Go to Settings, chose Captions
      3. Chose Auto Translate & select Arabic
Please let us know if you know another way. ~ Mandy

Arabic is not available in this video.
However, machine translation is not good. You can agree with anyone who professionally translates the video. You'll find the difference after that

    • @FrugalTravellers
      @FrugalTravellers  ปีที่แล้ว

@bAdR-1407 Thank you for your suggestion. Following the process I mentioned above, I was able to add Arabic subtitles, Spanish subtitles etc. It is unfortunately not within our budget of $25 each per day to pay for professional translations, so I hope the method above will suffice. ~ Mandy

Hello world!!! these videos are also to show the ignorant ppl that most Muslims are warm and inviting people who treat the traveller with enormous hospitality as we are taught this in our religion. We are not crazy Terrorist as some people make us out to be those that our are not a part of our nation and we despise them too!
