When you're a kid and you pull open the 2007 MTT and see a literal army of battle droids it's pretty epic. The new one on the other hand.......well I guess that's just a nice little squad coming out of it
I remember back when I was 5 or 6 just getting into lego. Star Wars was obviously my favorite theme. I faintly remember walking into my local lego store and seeing the 2007 MTT. Good times...
The year 2014 one is a joke. It would be pointless to transport 8 battledroids to the battlefront with such a big brown vehicle in practice. This is a lego model that has been simplified too much. The number of battledroides should be at least kept the same as the 2007 one.
The bigger, 2007 one, was the first "big" lego set I got. It was christmas 2008, and my arm was broken so I built it with my dad over the course of a few days. It's still one of my most favorite sets I've ever gotten. It's in ruins, however, in a box of my old legos lol.
I've always wanted the original one since I was a little kid. Always flipped through the booklets that came in packages and awed at the number of battledroids included
the old one is better in every way, but I always classed it as a ucs set. so kinda a unfair comparison to me. although I would've wanted to see the first one from 2000, and how that one compares to the newest one
its worth that much i bought 5 of those when they came out because i wanted to make a huge battle on a big table in my attic but i got a different job so i had less time so i only built 2 of the 5 the other 3 are completely sealed even the platic wrap around the box is still on there
I was 5 when this came out, and I had just gotten into Star Wars and lego. So naturally it was my favorite theme. I remember seeing all these sets, including this one, and I remember being able to pick a few out that I wanted. (My parents were generous when it came to legos, so I’m thankful for that) but I passed up this set as my 5 year old self didn’t think a set with all droids would be cool. Man I was wrong!
Man it's so sad to look at how all the sets are slowly becoming garbage . I mean just look at the turbo tanks they have made each one slowly gets worse. Lego used to look at making there sets big and fun to play with now there just garbage. I'm really starting to loose interest in Lego I hope they fix this issue
I actually liked the new turbo tank, yes it was a lot smaller then previous releases but it was a solid design with some great minifigs and all round good fun. I've done a comparison video on all 3 tanks if you'd like to check it out I'd be interested in hearing more of your thoughts.
Jeff Sasuage i agree theyre focusing way too much on making their models smaller and more compact and cramming them with shooters and missiles that they just arent worth it anymore in my eyes. These days i just buy the older star wars sets because they are alot more unique - also because they hold alot of good memories lol.
Jeff Sasuage True my man, I feel like the old star wars sets were. Bigger and less expensive. Heck, you can get 5 decent sized ships in one set for 50$! Today you get a tiny transport with four figs for like 15$ to 20$! I think it's outrageous.
When I was younger I would just spend hours looking at pictures of the older version and even to this day I don't blame myself, it is brilliant! I'm just sad I will never own one
The 2007 one is way better stand alone. However if are building a MOC the large size of the 2007 could dominate the MOC, in which case the 2014 could be a better fit.
Cool comparison. Finally after years bit the bullet and bought the 2007 one on ebay. Got it for 100 bucks just missing the stap, but had some clones and stuff with it, so im not complaining
I've only watched a few of your videos and OMG your so underrated! the videos you provide for your channel is GREAT. You've just got yourself a new subscriber dude and keep up the amazing work!
Comparing these just isn’t fair. One is clearly meant to be an easy to build play set and one is clearly meant to be a difficult build and a display set
How awesome do you think it would be if we could get a proper UCS MTT with a movie-accurate droid-deployment mechanism (where the levels of droids lower and move to either side)? Even better, they could allow for Technic components to make it mechanised!!!
The older MTT is much better than the new one, the only thing that kinda saves the new one, is a lot of accesories (Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon, S.T.A.P etc.)
I actually have the older MTT set in this video. It's just in several pieces in my old collection. I don't know if I still have all the pieces after all these years but I'm really getting back into Lego as a hobby. So I'll try to rebuild it and display it :)
the 14 version had some nicer features, but the 07 has a far better size and opening front gimmick, it would be nice to see a mash up of the two combined
I finally saved up enough the buy the 07 one and bought it yesterday it's just so cool and I had to pay £200 for it but it's basically a ucs set so I'm ok with that
The reason that the droids beat the gungans was because they came from the high ground if y’all remember the movie. They had the high ground so they won
Ucs mtt I think would be awesome, 200-250 dollar set. 30ish minifigs, 2 droidicas, 2 droid speeders, and a small cart like the 2007 model. I think we should get 2 pilots, a commander, 1 tx 20, 4 security droids, and 22 regular droids and maybe some gungans and their little horse things
is it worth it to get the 2007 set? 7662 cost's around 200 USD used, I'm looking to buy something for the separatists and for the price of getting this used I could get a new sealed malevolence 9515. I already own the 2014 MTT for comparison, and just don't know whether to buy the new malevolence which is around 220 USD, the used 2007 MTT which is around 180-220 USD, or maybe something else entirely.
I'm not sure what else is on your want list but out of these sets.....hmmm. That's a tough one, I really like the Malevolance but personally I like the 2007 MTT better but since you have the 2014 model I would suggest maybe adding something to your collection you don't have unless you really love MTT's. Hope this helps, let me know what you get.
Thanks for responding!!! and ya, I was thinking that the 2007 MTT is the better set, but being better doesn't make it worth it in my situation. I don't own any big ships, the millennium falcon TFA version may count, but I would say it's medium sized. However though, the malevolence is the longest capital ship (non ucs) that lego has released at 60cm long (slightly longer than the 2006 star destroyer at 58 cm, and the 56 cm first order star destroyer), and it looks nice to display so I will probably choose that, either that or some other capital ship, thank you man, I love your videos.
Honestly, if the sides were covered better and the droid rack held more droids, a lot more people would say the 2014 version is a great substitute for the previous one with a cooler vehicle deployment function, even if the whole model is significantly smaller.
I as going to have a go at us if you preferred the 2014. Hahaha. It's colour is better but size and lack of droid numbers is a downer when compared to the 2007. hey are you waiting until you've finished the room expansion before you make up the Venator "UCS MOC" that you got a while back? I'd like to see you build it and compare it to both the UCS star destroyers and the Venator play set. pretty good review here though. No contest 2007 all the way! :-)
Haha Thanks Ben. I was hoping to get to it built but until the room is done I am restricted on space and especially trying to film a review. But it's high on my list to get done and I look forward to getting stuck into the video comparisons =)
I own the 2007 one and other than the fact that it's obviously better at it's only necessary function (holding droids), I prefer the later one in most ways. Shame, but I guess it could be modified? Also, waste of minifigures on newer version: same or better versions of them in Duel on Naboo and Flash Speeder
I got the 7662 for €120,- that is about the same in AUS dollars, fully complete !!! € 100 of it was birthday money, so actually got it for €20,- hahaha. Yippie 😂🤗🤗👍🏻
