Rest easy, Mr. Avery. I hope this feud end sticks permanently because it broke my heart to hear of the feud. So basically they were into it because, what I’m getting was that added to Mr. Smith’s slight immaturity from the show but I guess she was both not getting paid greatly and she was pregnant at the time ? If I heard correctly, that sucks. I don’t have HBO Max but I hope to see the reunion someday.
When I see things like this in Hollywood I’m always slow to trust how real and authentic these moments are. They’re all amazing actors, so it’s hard to tell sometimes. Like did they have this conversation for the culture? Did they do this for ratings? Or was this a sincere and authentic moment of for them? I guess I just hope she actually got the closure she deserved after all these years.
Her version of Viv was nice and fiery. But I actually didn't think she was a great actress. I was often unconvinced by her performance. So I didn't mind the change. Sad about all the personal turmoil thou.

I cant judge , I had a supervisor who was educated darkskin blackwoman. She was very emasculating and condescending . After a point it became a game to her . Everyday I fought my anger not to explode at her for something she would say to me or my coworkers. I just quieted up , nodded and said no maam or yes maam . I understand how leftist human resource office thinks of men . Im a 6'6 heavy set masculine blackman. So I had to do certain things , like not stand up when shes talking because thats intimidating. Not raise my voice because its antagonistic and still intimidating . These things a white man told me to do to psychologically not show natural masculine power as a man. He even told me how to take a submissive position by my body language . Later when my supervisor upsetted a high powered white female client and caused a major issue . I didnt come to her rescue , I told other male co-workers who had issues with her to leave her to fix her own issue . She contacted me asking to speak on her behalf since I was the only senior employee under her . I said I didnt want to get involved and quickly hung up . The following week she was demoted and transfered to another location . A few years later she contacted me . She sounded more mature but took a victim stance . An ask why I told other male co workers to not assist her in keeping her at our location. My response, "every other day you were combative and emasculating . An when you werent you'd embarass the entire group by being unprofessional . When one of the other ladies spoke to you about it you slandered the guys aswell me by calling us difficult and saying we were lazy . When we are more experienced than you and a few of us stayed late to finish our work when you left early often. I didn't feel I needed to be loyal to you and many of the guys felt the same way ". She hung up and never called me again .
Yes, let's listen to/believe another being difficult black female Monique of Hollywood. How is it that it wasn't difficult of these black females to be able to land major Hollywood roles but, get "black balled" years later? Perhaps it's their attitude which caused them to be cast out? Why is it both of them are throwing others under the bus and playing victim?

People are often dismayed, offended, and even unraveled by silence. Not being engaging with others is often considered more insulting than being directly cruel. I experienced an extremely difficult workplace and the only way I could endure my workdays was to say as little as possible to my co-workers. I spoke a cordial hello and work-related discussions only. When you are highly sensitive yet also intent on remaining dignified amongst very toxic people, your quietness can be taken as being "difficult." I've learned, I'd rather people that do not know me personally to assume I'm difficult, stuck-up, arrogant, unapproachable, etc, than to compromise my peace of mind. The quality of your work should speak for itself. Janet Hubert was an exceptional "Aunt Vivian." It's a shame her talent was stifled because she dared to ask for what she was worth and wouldn't stroke the egos of those turned off by her strength.
Wow...you just spoke my life while working in the work place. Yes, Your work should speak for itself. People take offense to my quietness, when in actuality it’s simply just my nature.
Seriously, this made me tear up!!! This was long overdue but I think Will gets it now!!!! Everyone loved the first Aunt Viv (no disrespect to the replacement)!! But when she left the show she took a piece of our hearts along with her!!! She reminded me of my strong black dark skinned mother and other women I have come to know!! I literally grew up watching this show and felt very much apart of their family. Much love and respect to them all!!!

I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but I do know that in front of the camera, Janet Hubert was unequivocally, the best Aunt Viv -- hands down!. There was no parallel. She is a phenomenal actress, and it is really sad that her career was stolen from her. It's hard enough being a black actress in Hollywood without being blacklisted.
Well she lasted three seasons. But the show went on another three seasons after her departure. So guess what? Life carried on just fine without her, but i'm sure her 40 cats heard some great stories about a tv show from the 90s that she 'used' to be on.

Come to find out after watching this is that the original aunt Viv wasn't telling lies. Will wasn't the innocent victim folks believed all along and he really was insensitive to her.
Team Janet since 1993! How many women have been labeled “difficult” when they have spoken out about not being respected in the workplace? She would not let them steamroll her into a sh?tty deal & she’s been honest about that since the beginning! I’m glad they’ve reconciled, but I hope she has been monetarily compensated for what she’s endured. Smith is very well connected in Hollywood and he should help Janet find some high profile work in the future. He owes her that much!
We don’t have the full story here. I’m interested to hear Will’s complete response. Geoffrey told more of the story last time he was on here. Also, Will might be taking the high road. Seeing how she’s trashed will, Jada and Alfonso publicly, I don’t doubt she truly was difficult to work with, but I’m on the outside looking in
Alfonso also said bad stuff about her so either Alfonso is a douche and was playing into the rumours about her, Janet was difficult but Will took the high road or Alfonso brought into the rumours about her
Never believed will, Janet had grace and dignity about her you can’t fake that, will was young dumb and arrogant, he didn’t have wisdom yet like most people at that age coupled with a little power, but I’ve never doubted her. The industry sides with the star they all stopped speaking to her, every single cast member. That’s blackballing anyone could see that. Television moms like spouses like the original aunt Viv were rare during that time. Husband is judge, family in Bel Air, kids private school. It was rare to see a melanin queen like HER. I appreciated that they regularly tied the whole storyline of Wills original family with Aunt Viv and the grand parents, friends, cousins.
I'm gonna steal a saying from Mother Love, host of the 90's talk show Forgive or Forget. "Never underestimate the POWER of forgiveness!". Well done Will and Janet, well done! 😀❤
Come on, guys!! Let's not do this. We don't know anything about how her life and career was affected by all this. She simply shared HER feelings on what SHE experienced because of all this. PERIOD. All I remember hearing or reading about it all years ago was that her departure from the show was about as ugly and hostile as it could get and the industry tossed her out and never let her back in. Will made sure to keep her out any and every chance he could get. Even after the show ended. Race was never mentioned the entire time, but that doesn't mean it was never an issue for her. DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE!!. THAT'S NOT WHAT THIS IS ABOUT!! The OG Aunt Vivian finally came home after over 20 years. HEY, UNCLE PHIL!! MAY YOU FINALLY REST IN PEACE!!
@Queen Nefertiti I don’t know but I doubt it. She has had beef with folks that seem like she started the beef. She even beefed with a TH-camr over a video. Strange right?
She wasn’t a role model for me. My mother was. So was my grandmother. My aunt. I don’t look to celebrities for a role model. I have a family and an extended for that matter. As far as her, she was no angel. She did some things to get herself fired. Her rants and angry accusations didn’t help her, just like it’s not helping Mo’Nique. This is an example how the "arrogance of youth" can give way to the "wisdom of age". Will Smith is pushing fifty years old, and has grown as a person. It was time to settle differences, but, damn, I wish those differences were settled long before now.
I'm guessing Will has long regretted how he handled the situation with Janet and was hoping for it all to be squashed much sooner but he didn't know how to approach it since Janet was lashing out and not willing to talk. It's a lesson for us all to sometimes just sit down and talk and listen to each other without outside interference. Will is not a hateful guy and I completely believe he did not at first realize how much he hurt her.
When they switched Aunt Vivs, it kinda messed my head up. As a kid, I never knew they could do that. Just swap out a person I’ve grown to love and identify with. It was a reality check. “This is just TV”.

Placing the impotence on Will dismisses her being accountable for herself. It was unfortunate looking back on it but I am sure she should have not been so pretentious. I am sure she thought she would be able to do better without the show. Also if any employee isolates themselves, goes through mood swings and over evaluates their own worth sounds difficult to work with. So by stating so is somehow Wills problem? Wow, that was really powerful and a learning experience for me. For Will or anyone to willingly face someone, knowing it's going to be a very tough and difficult conversation, where, there is anger, pain and trauma and to still show up with compassion and a willingness to listen and be heard. There isn't too much of that in the world... That takes a grown man and a grown woman. It was an honour to bear witness to it.

People don't realize that he was young and broke so he's trying to figure things out that no one else had experienced coming from the Hip Hop culture. They were coming from two completely different worlds anddid not communicate. I like both Aunt Viv's because they approached the roles differently. To me the glue of the show (other than Will and Carlton) was Uncle Phil that was the Northstar of the show.
Besides Tatyana Ali (who was a child) a strong black woman on prime time television in the 90's was expected to accept what was offered and often treated as if they were expendable. Bill Cosby fought and stood up for Phylicia Rashad but Janet Hubert had no one with any understanding of her importance to the show to do the same for her.

If I heard correctly, that sucks. I don’t have HBO Max but I hope to see the reunion someday.

My response,
"every other day you were combative and emasculating .

Now thats class....both Hubert&Smith are stand out people...this was touching, as well as emotional...With age and time....You grow Wiser, perfect example.......
I think they should back pay her. I’m tired of black women being seen as difficult whenever we speak up. It’s definitely harder for us all around including us that have a darker tone as she stated. You can’t erase what you do to people so treat people the way you want to be treated.
If she hasn't gotten anything after 27 years I can't see them giving her anything now I'm sorry to say
The studio heads fired her not Will lol they are at flight Will had no clue what she was dealing with. He said lit off frustration not out spite they chose to go on without because they wouldn’t budge on more money. She signed a shitty contract basically and was locked in it and tried to negotiate with no luck. That’s studio heads who did her in.
@Sweet Bliss If she did to him none of you would even have a second thought. Your thoughts would be he’s man and he’ll be just fine.
Life is short and uncertain. I am glad they made amends and found their healing. ❤
"I'm Sorry" then the hugs came in that was enough for me im so happy they're on good terms and the vibe is great
Carlton is the only one who looks like he didnt age at all.
Jazz looks exactly the same
And Janet didn't speak to him because he was beyond brutal to her in public. Notice he's missing in all the shots with her.
@@thug2772 no he doesn't
@@FBIagent22-q1d she was crazy backstage
I definitely noticed that.
That was so beautiful and touching when you can apologize and still have love and respect for each other that's says alot.
Janet Hubert brought a special flair to aunt Viv and gave class to dark skin women. Our younger selves have a lot of growing up to do and Will Smith has grown. What happened to her should never happened to anyone. I am glad they put the feud behind them and it shows that we can forgive and heal. To bring it full circle Janet Hubert should be welcomed back to the world of entertainment.
She deserves a 10 million dollar check 💰
Now. Will gotta look out for her. He destroyed her livelihood when he was younger. Its only responsible for him to repair that.
You can't be difficult to work with and at the same time expect people to hold your hand and care about your feelings. She did this to herself.
She was pregnant and wasn't going to take a pay cut cause she was the bread winner in the fam
It would be nice if he gave her some money to make up for what she lost. I hope he does.
Y’all sound crazy he gave her an apology he owed her only just like she owed him an apology as well. Both got what they wanted and needed and it was a beautiful moment.
@@susansusan138 absolutely right but many people aren't that pure. He should bless her with 10 million dollars and make it right with her family. Because she could have had so many opportunities after that show. The only thing left to do now is to restore her financially. And that may not even recover everything that she could have made but it's a start.
So good to see them reconcile. She is a brilliant talent and it would be good to see that talent back on the screen!
This moment was powerful!! But I really implore everybody to please watch this whole special. It truly is worth it!
Thank You for sharing this with us . That was such a touching and beautiful moment. I know it made me feel good. Again thank you.
Honestly I can see an early 20's Will Smith on some lack of respect douchebaggery type stuff. And with Janet being that no non sense professional black woman on and off screen, that feud was bound to happen.
Totally agree but the problem was that this young immature man
Child could cause so much damage. Who knows how many he destroyed outside the limelight
Glad that will admitted his bad behaviour towards her at the time. He was a hot head back then you could see it in his interviews. I am so sad she had to go through all of this, she is amazing for apologizing on her part of misbehaving and for forgiving . Glad they have come to good terms. She will forever be the only aunt Vivian to me.
Despite Will being a 20 year old tv star. Janet had a responsibility to herself to be an advocate for herself. If we celebrate her decision to standup for what she is worth then there should be no pity taken for that decision. She made manybpoor decisions and she lacked the maturity to stand by that. She was clearly the "hot head". But neither here nor there now.
@@2012EJRobinson I think it is actually because she stood her ground that she was fired from the series. She said the offers made to her after years were not right and that she considered she deserved better. So I don't see where is it that she was a hot head. On the other side. Young will smith , all that power he was given were not a good combination. Both admitted their mistakes. But while he was soo going up in her career ,she went through really bad times.
@@kaoutermouslimhaliba7145 believing she deserves more doesn't mean that she warranted the amount she askes for. It might have been too much. So she failed to negotiate a contract not necessarily fired. She was replaced due to no agreement. However she should have shown the then the maturity she showed last night. Everyone goes through things she just didn't manage it well.
@@2012EJRobinson I don't see it like that. She was given something less than she deserved because they wanted to belittle her. As she said "to put her in her place" and obviously she disagreed. And will in his prepotence made it all public and ruined her reputation.
@@kaoutermouslimhaliba7145 we don't know what she offered. But her offer might have been of a supporting cast member and not of the actual star. Her maturation should have superceded Wills "prepotence". He was 21 years old and she was not transparent about what took place with the deal or what she was dealing with. Again where is self responsibility for a mature actress like she is?
Well, this is heartwarming!
If Will didn't have her on there, he knows that so many of his fans would turn on him. Especially those in the black community. We only accepted one Aunt Viv and that was the first one so it was only right. I'm glad they made up.
This brought a trear to my eyes. It’s hard being a black woman in this world. I hope he paid her for all the financial loss over the years.
It's hard holding unto pain and holding others accountable even after they did reach out to you and you refused. Even though HER hurt is understandable to equate that to ''it's hard being a black woman in this world'' has truly become victimhood porn. Being a Black woman is NOT a liability. Also, Alisha was able to have a career and is she not a Black woman?
The other black women of the cast never complained and went on to have great careers in hollywood
@@thaurbanthinker543 Your not getting it. Will Smith lies on her, saying she was difficult. This than lead to nobody wanting to work with her. He didn’t do that to nobody else.
@@caramelandchocolate5195 im pretty sure janet could have gotten other roles after fresh prince but no she slandered will and the other castmates for 27 years maybe janet has a terrible attitude that ruined her career
@@thaurbanthinker543 that’s not a fact at all, you really do not know what Blackballed means and it shows. Don’t bother responding, I won’t have a reply for you.
When when two people are feuding publicly, it is hard for someone to just separate pride and mend the relationship. Especially between a 21-year-old kid who did not know his power in the show and a black woman who feel like she was under-appreciated and undervalued with offers that were given to her. I don't put it all on Will because he wasn't an executive Who knew that she was an essential part of the show.
Your statement is probably the truest one I've read or seen.
@@beatsgordy Thank You! Well said.

@Rick Davis never said he wasn't
Thank you Aunt Viv, you helped raised a plenty of kids out there!!! 👏🏾❤
I'm am so glad they humbled themselves and came together to work out the problems. It is amazing to see my people grow, forgive, unite, and heal.
Hopefully Will can slide her a few million & pump her name up in Hollywood so she can get a major role. She’s really a good actress & she still beautiful!
Facts
Hollywood doesn't work like that. The only way Will can get her a job is if he create or at least help produce a project. Everybody in the industry know who she is, and Will spent 27 yrs giving her a bad name.
She blackballed herself, the only reason we’re talking about her now is because she is still attached to this decades long drama. He also does not owe a former coworker anything because of choices she made.
@@RayRay-iy2ve Will has not spent 27 years giving her a bad name. He hasn’t been saying anything about Janet. Janet has been publicly trashing Will, Jada and Alfonso (Carlton) for years
@@KennyBucketz true Will hasn't, but he really didn't have to because he got what he wanted and was winning through popularity anyway. However we cant say that about Alphonso. He spoke plenty ish about her.
This was all she ever wanted all of those years. It's so unfortunate that she lost so much, but she was right, words, particularly in Hollywood, can be damaging. In her case, they killed her career. I'm glad that they agreed to film this so other's can see what reconciliation looks like.
I agree and thank you for pointing this out. However he also needs to make a financial restitution to her also now that he sees the pain he caused her. The show would not have been what it was had it not been for Hubert playing Aunt Viv originally.
However, wouldn't James Avery have straightened WIll out if it was all his fault? He had more power and respect over Will even after all these years..
@@TheRmjr Maybe to get her to come back, there was an agreement of some kind of restitution and the interview was part of the healing process. I wonder if Jada had anything to do with this since she got pulled into their issue in the last couple of years.
@@belindalindsey607 Makes perfect sense.
@@belindalindsey607 Hopefully so. Jada may have been involved since Janet had pulled her into their misunderstanding as well. But I can appreciate the fact that Jada realized that Janet was hurting and hopefully pointed this out to Will and encouraged him to do the right thing. He was wrong for what he did and a real man acknowledges it, apologizes, and makes restitution. I hope and pray that they are all in a good place now. No one will ever forget the original Aunt Viv.
I'm happy that they buried out their issues wat they had bak in tha early 90's janet hubert is tha original Aunt Vivian and i kno it wouldnt be right if will smith didn't bring her along in this classic moment of history now they can finally move forward........
“Why you guys went so far, I lost so much”! Damn😢 No disrespect to JR but JH was the ORIGINAL AUNT VIV✌🏾
Thank You! This was one of the best highlights I’ve watched. You’re a great commentator!
How powerful!
Having a dark-skinned Aunt Vivian was so important, and it seems as though they partially understood that, but not enough to keep her on. What would our lives be like had she been able to stay for the duration of the show?
She brought so much more than what she conveyed with her acting skills. She brought power and light. I am so glad that she was able to say the things that she said to him. The timing, despite being 30 years later, is so relevant. I'm grateful.
now onto Monique getting hers from Oprah, Tyler Perry and Lee Daniels
I don't think so but.. Never know 25 years from now maybe🤷🏾
Good luck on that
About time. Now we need Tyler Perry to work his magic for the Queen!
Beautiful. I love seeing this settled. This is a happy moment.
This made me musty eyed.. just beautiful when love prevails. Thanks you this was a great watch with my morning coffee ☺️
This warms my heart. I’m so glad Janet finally got to say how she felt about what happened, and I’m glad for Will too. I honestly don’t think Will knew the magnitude of the consequences for his actions, nor did Janet. While the finger can be pointed at both,Im so happy they were able to resolve this. God bless them both.
Will should make it right. I say break her off a million bucks and call it even, he's had lots of movies where he mad 20 mill a flick. He can afford it.
Regular people in the world (basically you, me, and everyone here) act funny as **** about giving one dollar to a homeless person. Yet you fools expect Will Smith to give a 'million' dollars to this woman who basically caused all of her own problems? Boy hush!
Jeffrey Doe Calm down chief, nobody asked you to give anything cheapo.
How do you know he hasn’t? He probably helped her in someway. Not everything has to be publicized

Play for ratings. If Will had integrity he would have been " made this right". Hubbert is talented, intelligent, classy, and beautiful. Will could have single handedly reset her career with his connection in Hollywood and his production company. Glad his kids and Jada are his karma. Lawwwdddd, they put him through it.

Oop! Not the wife and kids 😂 Fix it Jesus!
Agree! He honestly didn’t seem apologetic until she said it first. He only did this because of the reunion, he don’t care about her and still doesn’t. Just trying to change his image of being an asshole to black women in the business.
Love that they got to say sorry face to face. Will was Young. I wouldnt be surprised if Will Cut her a nice lil Check in Private.
