I’m running OCLP on two legacy Macs. I just updated my 2011 MBP 13” and it was perfectly smooth. You and the OC developers are doing a huge service for the world of users still using older Macs everyday. And, yes - this is exciting… as a developer of much smaller projects I was always excited to see things work as designed. I can’t even imagine the scope of this project, the research, coding, and testing, required. To see it fall into place as designed is super exciting. Truly an awesome project, keeping the Home Brew Spirit alive. THANK YOU!!!
Hi, a question, did you have any issue as facetime camera not working?I'm strugling since months looking and asking but apparently no one had this issue as I do. I´ve tried everything I found, scripts and softwares but nothing, I can't get it to work :( thnx
I have a MBP 15 ``2011 MacbookPro8,2
@@patrizioborghi808 That should be app specific and not a patch problem. Was it working before you put in this patch?
Oh this is going to be huge. Thanks to everyone at the Dortania OCLP project!
This is my go to channel for OCLP. The way you present the information is second to none - thank you !
Dude, you are a HUGE help and a wealth of information for all of us interested in this process. A big than you to YOU!
I am running a mid 2010 27” mac and the update install went perfectly. Thank you and the open core team for all your hard work. Truely appreciated
Great job, as usual. Thank you, OpenCore, for the updates and diligent efforts to keep older Macs running with the latest OS. Much appreciated!
Thank You Again Mr Macintosh for all you do to keep our older yet still reliable machines running! We love you!
Thank you for your welcome video. Yesterday I followed another set of TH-cam videos (older than yours) by someone else on this OpenCore Legacy Patcher process, and, unfortunately it was not pretty. I attempted to install Sonoma on my 2012 MBP Catalina, but after about 5 tries, I gave up, taking most of the day, as I attempted to deal with all kinds of strange, never-experienced scenarios, having to erase and reload the original Catalina software on the laptop about 5 times and then throwing in the towel. NOW, I see from your newer video that the OpenCore process changed / updated since then. SOOOO - I am going to give it another try using your instruction starting right now (3 PM Pacific Time 6/26/24). I hope to have more positive news to report in the coming hours or days. ----- 🙃
The effort you go to is highly appreciated. I wouldn’t have done this to my Mac if it wasn’t for your videos.
Many thanks to all Dortainia developers. No real need to update but I did it today just in case. All works fine on my IMac 27‘ end 2015 as well as on my MacBook Pro 15’ mid 2015. thanks again for your support. Highly appreciated!
Smooth Operations. Great stuff Mr. Macintosh and Team. Great icon - context - composed 17:58. Tech with a eyewink.😉
edit 06/02: upgraded my macOS Monterey to 12.7.5 using the downloaded OCLP 1.5.0 and upgraded from 0.5.3. Smooth.
Muchas gracias por tu trabajo siempre impecable y oportuno Mr. Macintosh.
Thank you and OCLP team for amazing work!
Running a 2013 Mac Pro flawlessly, absolutely love this thing with OCLP ! Big thanks to the team for their job !!!!
Me too but had issues with gfx driver before running this one
I have macbook pro 2014 running 11.1 will it work on this?
I updated my late 2015 retina iMac to 14.5 yesterday and just ran the update. Beautiful work fellas!
Thank you again Mr. Macintosh for a very thorough update video! I installed the OC update no prob on my mid 2011 imac and the clone Ventura (latest) OS on my Samsung T7 drive. Both working great! Still using Ventura due to all the glitches i had with Sonoma, but I am sure I could run Sonoma problem free on the clone SSD. But for now, just sticking with latest Ventura, which has proven to be quite solid for the old imac i am using, which of course is still providing non metal graphics and un updated wifi/bluetooth for the internal and cloned external drives. Yes! The Open Core Developers are a super blessing for all of us using all these old macs! Thank you all Sooooo much. And the money is where my mouth is, but surely my donations are never enough to be what all their work is actually worth! Blessings all! 💕❣AJ
I'm running Monterey on a 2010 3.46 12 core Mac Pro. I couldn't be happier to extend the life of this machine with my Avid Pro Tools Ultimate system. Everything is working for me! Thank you for all that you do
Have the exact same Mac Pro! Just wondering if you stopped at Monterey because Ventura stopped supporting FireWire. Thanks!!!
@@garylordjohns3730 Hi, I have a 2010 3.46 12 Core Mac Pro also. I run a Firewire Apollo with a Thunderbolt card. I upgraded from High Sierra using Firewire. I decided on Monterey because of others reporting good success on this old Cheese Grater. Besides having to boot twice to get the system to recognize the Apollo it has been rock solid. I have not installed OCLP 1.5.0. I think I'll wait for an update. I never upgrade immediately with any major release of any software. Monterey is not compatible with my Apollo using Firewire. I can attach drives and such just not audio devices.
How is your Avid system connected?
So far, my 2012 i7 MBP and i7 minimac and my 2009 white MacBook performed the updates on the automatic initiation process. Just a few interactions and the systems updated with no troubles. OCLP is getting smoother with each update. This is excellent work. Very appreciated. All my Mac’s are on Sonoma with no problems.
I'll be in for both those machines, even though I'm mainly on a Mac Studio. Thanks for letting us know that these very popular machines work with the patcher.
As always brilliant.
So easy to follow.
Many thanks for your content.
Thank you so much as always!❤
Thanks so much for keeping us updated with these changes. Excellent.
Hi, nice video!
In my case I have a Macbook Pro 13" late 2011 with Sonoma 14.4.1 with OCLP 1.4.3 (now I'm going to update it) and in all this time I had 3 to 4 sessions with troubles, the whole system slowed down dramatically, my workaround was to boot in Windows 10 (is dual boot) and then reboot to MacOS.Oh and I noticed that using the Terminal won't let me use X11 for SSH connections; I had to install XQuartz for that.
Good Install! Took less than 10-minutes from starting download to finish on my Late 2013 MacPro. No issues whatsoever. Nice not having to type the passwords constantly!
27" iMac 2011 i7. Root patcher didn't install correctly at first, but after updating Sonoma, OCLP prompted that it wanted to fix it, so now it works as good as it gets! Thanks!
Huge thanks for this tool and updates. My 2012 MBP with upgraded wireless card is running Venture beautiful, maybe except for continuity camera, might be because I run the MBP in clamshell mode. But very very very very happy with OCLP! 👍🏼🎉🎊 🏆
Definitely install the update. These developers are really good 👍🏼. Thank you so much for keeping my 2011 MBP alive and usable.
Did the update on my 2017 27" iMac, no issues. Very smooth transition to 1.5.0. Thanks to all the devs.
Thanks one and all!!!!!!
I've been using OpenCore since January 2023. First it was on my MacBook Pro 2010 (which gave out on me recently and that really affected me), then my MacBook Pro 2012 (which I'm planning to upgrade with more RAM, a second hard drive, a new battery and so on) which I'm using with the latest version of OpenCore and macOS 14.5 and the family iMac, a 21-inch 2011, like my MacBook Pro 2012, with the latest version of OpenCore and macOS. My uncle has a 27” iMac 2011 and I'm planning to put OpenCore on it (good idea?).
I'm really looking forward to WWDC and seeing what new OSes Apple comes up with and what the community can do for these “old” machines that are still doing incredible work today. Thank you Dortiana and thank you Mr. Macintosh!
Loving oclp on my 5,1 thankyou all involved
I’ve been using OCLP and upgrading since version 1.1. It gets better every update. I run a 2011 iMac, and a 2012 MacBook Pro, both of which I was about to trash a year ago until I found this solution. Thanks to you and all the developers at OpenCore - the iMac hardware is fantastic even if older. For what I do on my iMac, email, internet, scanning documents, - simple stuff, the OCLP has been a great savings
Thank's from Belgium , Your content is a master piece for Mac users who keeps their beloved Mac .
I am running an iMac 21.5 inch from 2011 and running Ventura it all works great thanks to your videos
Oh wow!!! Just ran 1.5.0. on a MBP 13" Mid 2012 , 2.9 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7 1TB, 16GB. with Sonoma 14.5. Perfecto. Well done you guys. Thanks so much.
Excellent news. Many thanks to the Dortania / OCLP crew and Mr Mac!
Running : 2012 MacBook Pro + OCLP 1.4.3 + Latest Monterey
2012 MacBook Pro + OCLP + Latest Sonoma. Sonoma has become much more stable, and I have figured that most of its crashes/ kernel panics (not too frequent) are related to Universal Control calls , as both macs are in sync using iCloud and controlled by one keyboard, MX keys, and one mouse MX mouse for Mac. If one UC goes down, and is not attended to, I think it eventually causes a freeze / hang requiring a restart in the Sonoma machine. However, I have begun to understand how to keep UC up and stable, and to avoid hangs.
I will certainly update OCLP and will wait on upgrading Monterey for now as it’s nice and rock solid.
I'm absolutely thrilled with the latest version! Managed to successfully install Sonoma on my Mid-2011 iMac 27", and everything is running smoothly after the "Post-Install Patch" Outstanding work!
no problem updating 2012 Mac mini and 2017 Macbook Air from 1.4.3 to 1.5.0. Thanks for you excellent tutorial.
fantastic, I just updated on my 2013 27 i7 iMac running Sonoma 14.5, zero issues
Thanks Mr. Macintosh for another great video!! Would you ever consider doing a video outlining the best upgrade methods/paths for those installing for the first time, those with OCLP currently installed, metal/non-metal capable, starting with older Mac OS's, etc and any potential pitfalls to avoid?
Booted my laptop this morning and was prompted to updated.
I immediately updated and the process was as smooth as a whistle.
Reboot went flawless.
The OCLP 1.5.0 update ran just fine on my MacBook Pro 7,1 (13inch, 2010) with Monterey OCLP (1.4.3).
Great video (as always), and many thanks to all OCLP developers!
I’ve now also updated an older, 2009 iMac 9,1 that was running Monterey OCLP and booting from an external FireWire SSD drive. Again the 1.5.0 update progressed without problems.
Thank you guys. Fantastic work. Shared with the world ❤.
I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to build a disk for this, i desperately need to get my 2012 mac mini updated past catalina...so, i'll dig into this video tomorrow (it's 00:30 )
Thanks for the video, and many thanks to the OCP developers!
Thank you very much for everything great job you are the best
Thanks again for another very informative video. My 27" Later 2013 iMac got an OWC PCIe SSD 1TB update last month which speeded up the computer but I've still been getting graphics issues with Sonoma with curious blocking. Everything went a bit unstable last week and I lost the wallpapers. This appears to have got resolved with the update to 14.5. I've now downloaded and run OCLP 1.5.0 which went very well. Following reboot, everything loaded up very quickly so I'm hoping that the fixes in 1.5.0 will have sorted those graphics problems. Thanks again 🙂
appreciate all of video
Just did the entire setup on a Macpro trashcan a few months ago and love it so far, the patch here took maybe 5 minutes and a quick restart! Insane how good this is!!!
Fantastic Job you do! Thank you. Update per your video now. Also a question. In your video you have multiple version of the OS open on each window of its own. What do you use, Parallels, VMware Fusion, ... Please let me know. Have you made a video for that?
Thanks for the insightful video as ever.
How about a video for those using fusion drive iMacs to explain the process and any pitfalls?
Have a good one!
I am blown away at the ability to utilize my old Cheese Grater MPro. Running Monterey in an audio environment with a Thunderbolt Apollo Interface. Rock Solid! Thank you to all the developers for their hard work and dedication. Will be supporting the effort!
Thanks you and thanks to all the developers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn, 1.5 looks fantastic. Currently using OpenCore at work actually to get 2015 macs on Ventura until the replacement cycles that got delayed through covid going. The 2015 runs sweet with it so far.
Love your videos thanks for all the valuable detailed information. I've run into a hiccup when installing the root patches on my 2010 Mac mini running Ventura. It just seems to hang on 'unmounting root volume' I restarted and no changes. It doesn't seem to be an issue since the root patches are still installed from the last opencore version. I'll leave it running, maybe it just needs more time
Great help to keep older Macs alive!
This fixed my airdrop issues between my iPhone se2 and 2017 MacBook Air
Thanks!
Thanks for the update. I found no real problem updating to version 1.5 when updating my Big Sur partition on a Macbook Pro mid 2009. However, after upgrading the Sonoma partition, networking is even more flaky as it had been under OCLP 1.4.3. Both Ethernet and Wi-Fi may show it's connected, but I can't reach any internet pages with any browser. Sometimes, after a while, networking will just start working.
THANK YOU !!!!!! MR. MACINTOSH!!!!
We really do appreciate the developers. Thank you so much. You all are our super heroes 👍🏼
Long-time OCLP / Late-2013 iMac user here. I would say 95% no issues -- this machine is my daily driver, even. Thanks for all of your videos, they have been super helpful!
I also have the late 2013 21" iMac, which MacOS version are you using? I'm looking to go to 11(Big Sur)
@@brianmiller1077 Sonoma 14.5.1, which is latest as of this writing.
I’ve been using OCLP ever since Monterey appeared in beta. I’ve used this on MacBooks pro’s from 2012 and 2016, my macpro 5,1, 6,1 and my iMac’s from 2012 to 2017 with no issues. I even donate to this project, invaluable
This fixed my airdrop issues with my 2017 MacBook Air) including copy/paste) 🥳
Great videos and instructions. Have a MacBook Pro 9,2 - successfully installed Monterey using your videos, thanx. One annoyance is that this machine takes 1:45 to boot. Any way to quicken that up? Quite a difference from the 0:20 in Catalina. Thanx for any help.
Wow this is truly amazing! Now we can keep our Macs easily updated without much issue. The only thing missing to bring back Dashboard 😢
Thank you
Hey, thanks for all your work, it's great! You asked us to report back on our experiences: My computer is a 15-inch, mid 2012 MacBook Pro 9,1, it is running Sonoma 14.5. The last couple of macOS versions my computer has become quite unstable, I have experienced random system panics, I tracked it down to the screensaver, when I turn it off it doesn't happen as often. I have also experience instability in Safari, sometimes a tab would become completely unresponsive and ignore any event. I have now switched to Firefox which seems much more stable. My MAIN problem however, is that Time Machine takes FOREVER to make a backup. Even if I have not been working on the machine it will create a backup of 1-2-3 Gb but it's not because of the size of backups, it just takes forever, 3-4-5-6 hours, sometimes I leave the laptop open over night to allow it to finish. Time Machine used to run really smoothly in the background, I never noticed it and it took just a few minutes for the hourly update.
Maybe you need to boot your machine in safe mode and use Disk Utility to run First Aid of your Time Machine disk.
We’ve been a long way, I still remember going to Big Sur and using the terminal ui, it feels like dinosaur age now lol
I want to upgrade OCLP to 1.5.0 on my MBP 9,2. Doing Time Machine Backup now. I keep seeing a few people run into the error "make sure you don't have any pending updates" and can't install root patches. I am on 13.6.7 Ventura, and I think it will work, but no need to do upgrade to OCLP 1.5.0 until I hear an answer as to what may be causing people to not be able to install root patches... Hopefully they are all on the latest Ventura and the Update to Sonoma update that always shows up is not the reason for hold ing up Patch install. I love listening to Mr Macintosh. His voice is great, and probably one of the best support videos for any project on TH-cam.
Congrats to this update and the video. But I would really love to see iMacs to be tested. Whereas all my MacBooks are working great my two iMacs are still broken and run with OCLP 1.4.2. As soon as I updated with 1.5.0 I cannot boot anymore ans get a stop sign on a white screen followed by a terminal window staying there forever without any progress on one machine while the other iMac stops booting after one third of the progress bar. Strange!
Good video 👍🏽
Great Job!!!!!
this will be my first time using open core. I have a mid 2014 MBP. I want to upgrade to ventura and i looked at your other vid about that. So do i download the GUI or the new patcher?
Cool, a revolutionary version for sure.
I installed it the Wifi problems is gone (Late 2015 5K iMac w/ Radeon M395).
God bless.
I need help! Ever since macOS 14.4.1, my 13" MacBook Pro (mid 2012 non retina) can't wake up from sleep both from being idle and from the lid being closed down.
Just updated to OCLP 1.5.0, but the issue still is not fixed. This is very frustrating
Installed OCLP 1.5.0 (w/OS14.5) on my '12 MBP, '13 Air, '13 iMac, '14 MBP. So far, everything is perfect!
Still have to do it to my '12 MacPro, but wanted to make sure a 1.5.1 ("oops release"!) didn't come along a short while after.
Thanks for the video. I wonder if the latest update included taking care of the USB ports. After applying the previous legacy patch to my Mac Pro 2010 I was unable to attach any devices to USB ports without restarting my mac. It very annoying. My Yamaha Tyros Arranger keyboard should have been turn on before I start the computer. If I forget I got to restart the mac again. Do you happen to know if they solve that problems in this version?
Thanks again for sharing !
Are you virtualizing these old macs or are they remote connections? I can't get any remote connection software working on non-metal Macs
After entering safe mode and then restarting on its own it needed the patching to return it did with no problem and all was well. I have noticed that it takes a much longer time to bet by the first quarter of the Apple startup
I was just thinking about fixing my 2014 Mac Mini since I tried updating it to the latest version of Sonoma a little while ago and it just stopped booting. I tried to fix it for a little while then just gave up. And look what pops up when I open the wrong website!
In regards to macOS 15, you know I'm updating (or at least making a volume for it) all three of my Macs immediately even if it doesn't work at all lol :D
I’m excited for OCLP 1.5.0 I’m running the latest version of Sonoma on my 2013 MBP 15. It runs better on Sonoma then it did on the supported Big Sur. I’m going to wait till Mac OS 15 is fully developed to install.
Everything great and stable, Thank you OCLP Team. Can't get Internet Sharing to work on upgrades over 14.3 on MP 5,1 2912? Any fix for that? Thanks
I am running OCLP 1.4.3 with Sonoma and it is running great now.
I plan on updating OCLP to 1.5.0, but I will not update to the next MacOS until I see that bugs are shaken out of it.
The king returns
Awesome!
Thank you for everything you do to help all of us! I tried 1.4.3 and updated to 1.5.0 with this, but I still canʻt get 2013 Macbook Airs to install Ventura. Creating the installer and installing to the computer seemed to work fine. But it keeps stalling a little into the install and pressing the CapsLock key shows no green light. It worked great on a 2014 iMac and a 2013 Macbook Air with itʻs original SSD. Iʻm wondering it itʻs the SSDs Iʻm using which I read are "dram-less". They "use a non-volatile flash memory cache." OR do I need to find and install a different KDK? I appreciate any help, I have over 50 of these to do and really want it to work to give them more life. Thank you!
I had updated Ventura to the latest version, before OCLP 1.5.0 came out. I updated OCLP but when I try to root patch it says there is an inconsistency between versions of the MacOS installed (23F79 and 22G720). So I have kept the former root patch. Things are working well and I hope I will be able to solve this minor issue.
Rockin' my late 2013 MBP since February this year. 99.9% flawless - had to repatch once, because.. yeah I dunno why tbh 😂 OCLP made me buy an old Mac, and I don't regret it ever since. Best Dev's in the world!
I’m on macOS Sonoma on my MacBook Pro 15 inch from 2012 and it runs great on my MacBook Pro and can’t wait for macOS 15 to come out in 9 days
M1 2020 MacBook Pro, still on Ventura, won't upgrade to Sonoma until macOS 15 is released in the fall. I always stay one year behind.
My MBP 2011 16mb 500ssd… only issue I have is the occasional slow down. Maps and find me do not show the map. I get just a black screen were the map would be. Stage manager also does not work. Beyond those items it works well. Safari makes the system slow down if I open more than about 12 tabs. But it does not do that with windows edge.
I have a Mac Pro 5,1. OCLP with Monterey on NVME (PCIE adapter); dual boot with Windows legacy install on a separate MBR SSD. When I upgraded from OCLP 1.4.3 to 1.5.0, the boot picker stopped showing the "Legacy Windows" icons. So I reverted back to 1.4.3
Late 2012 Mini on Monterey. It took me about 20 tries until it would install. When it finally worked it didn't migrate my old passwords to the new OS. It runs fine but sometimes predictive text stops working and when I restart, it wants to know the old password (twice) to install the old passwords, which didn't work because I had to enter them all again. I want to update a 2010 MBP because the Safari is so old it won't operate most sites but I'm stressed about fighting the install again.
I have a macbook pro 2015 late model with ventura and the only issue i still have is mini roadways just doesnt display the map correctly other than that its my daily driver
lets goooooo
No longer boots after updating. Have been running Mac OS 13.6.3 from an external SSD. Today upon turning on computer I was greeted with an update message from OpenCore Legacy. I updated and now I don't see my external drive on the startup manager. iMac 27" Mid 2015.
New to this channel, so apologies if this is answered elsewhere... but can I use this when using an external Samsung T7 SSD as the sole boot disk (failure of iMac's internal drive). TIA
I would like to see the target Mac Model in the Creating Installer process window also.
Thank you for another comprehensive and enjoyable video. Have a trashcan and a Mac Pro 5.1 both updated to 1.5 without any issues. Well but for me being dumb. Has anyone considered a way of keeping a OCLP local settings? The Mac Pro 5.1 with a non-flashed RX580 needs AMD GOP setting ticked, without this the Mac gets stuck in a reboot loop. Being this dumb I have to rewrite the EFI using another machine.
Hi Mr Macintosh great work you guys are doing just amazing 🎉 So does this 1.5.0 upgrade allow Logic Pro X/11 work with this upgrade on iMac mid 2011 non-mental desktop? On the same computer I’m running the 1.4.3 but Logic Pro X won’t load or DaVinci Resolve. Is this normal? Thank you for all your help time and hard work ❤❤❤❤
