heyy everything in this tutorial was working until the point where I had to type in the terminal, instead of it going back to the command terminal at 7:57, I keep getting an error saying "nvram: Error setting variable - 'IASUCatalogURL': (iokit/common) general error" can you PLEASE tell me what to do or how to fix this? September 2024 - 2010 Mac Book Pro - High Sierra. This method worked. Only difference between the video and my experience is after trying to install after altering the URL it did not work. I shut down the laptop, started again with Command + r and went to try again. It advanced past the server fail. Thanks for the great video.

It indeed was more than just setting back the date :) I had to play a bit to disconnect wifi and enabling it because I think it was overwriting the date I had set to 2022 via NTP requests. In the end, all went fine ! I'm genuinely pleased to see so many people recycling old macbooks, that's an excellent thing as well !

@@HeavenOnEarth-qm4lh I was able to do it with this that I found on another forum. However, it only updated my 2016 to Moterry iOS. Just had exactly the same problem... Turn on the computer and hold down “Cmd + Alt + R” to enter internet recovery mode. Select reinstall operating system, reinstall it to the OS X Base System and it should run. I followed Wafflefallafle’s instructions but they wouldn’t work on my Mid 2011 iMac as it wasn’t the internet recovery mode just the Cmd + R recovery which isn’t the same thing. Mine is now restoring :-)

You and dhinakg are true graybeards. There are thousands of **confidently wrong** applefans who have posted floods of BS, when the real issue was the endpoint's refusal all along. Surgical diagnosis and even a fix command, true graybeards all (metaphoric for the ladies)
This worked for me. I had to copy the URL by hand and enter it into NVRAM. The log didn't show any of the URL like in his example that allowed the copy and paste, and the NVRAM check just showed a bunch of other data. Just go ahead and type the nvram command anyways hit enter and start the install. It will find the server.
I was on support yesterday for 30mins and they kept telling me the issue was because i was connected to my business wifi. just watched this video for 10minutes and it worked perfectly
Hello mr. I have follow all the steps mentioned, but i still have the same error (the recovery server could not be contacted). I checked the log file i found this error repeated many times: target is not convertible to AFPS: this volume is not formatted as mac os extended (journaled). I tried to format it to afps, journaled… nothing worked.
As an IT Professional and having tried hundreds if not thousands of online TH-cam tutorials, I must say this is by far the best presentation, not only did this solution work but the way you presented it and clearly explained each step without fluff and confusion of many others you deserve to be ranked much higher in the TH-cam algorithm, thanks!

But I can't change the disk to journaled type it's always failed. Btw I'm using SSD if that's make any difference. Thank you

@@Jamesdajames I got this message too. I then reformatted the boot partition ("Macintosh HD - Data"), after which the above process worked.
