Ducati Multistrada 1200 | First Ride Review | Better than the V4?

  • Just before I shipped off to live in the USA I got to get down to Freemans Motorcycles to ride this lovely 2016 Ducati Multistrada 1200. I really enjoyed my time with the bike and came away thinking even more about how I think a twin is probably the best all round mix of an engine for the roads of Ireland. Anyway, leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on the video! :)

    Remember links to the bike and such are in the description if you want to buy it :)
    Also for those interested I have moved to the US and am currently here getting housing sorted etc in case you're wondering why I've been quiet! Normal production will return soon as I can make it all happen :)

    A gen 2 Tuono ticks all the boxes for small money once you don't need a back brake and upgrade the reg/rec to stop stators burning out.

      To be fair they're definitely one of the best used bikes out there to get imo. Class yokes.

    Hope the move is going well. Brings back alot of memories after owning a 2012 version of that bike. Loved riding that machine, it fitted my big body.
    I didn't have a great ownership experience but perhaps I was just unlucky.

      So far so good, a lot of work and driving so far but hopefully after this week now I can relax a bit :)
      Yeah it's a fantastic bike to ride, but as with any bike if you have a really poor experience or just get a lemon it's going to sour it. I know people who'll never buy HONDAS again as they had such a poor experience with a bad one. A pity all the same though, wish you'd had a better experience!

    Gosh you get to ride some cool bikes. The screen is a let down but it does sound a bit angry and I like it. I surprised the seat was comfy, not that I've ridden lots of Ducatis but the Panigale V2 was like sitting on a rock. Real world brake test on the review ride, perfect! HaHa I feel the same way when I ride the Busa, at times, I feel disconnected and I've never had a throttle cable fail but I do love my cruise control. An abundance of torque is a beautiful thing, after all, torque is what moves the bike. Yeah, the nose is a bit much TBH. Solid review as usual! OC: I may consider the BMW first but this would be up there but I would love the V4 version to. Choices suck, can I just have one of each...

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I got to ride some cool ones anyway, let's see will anyone over here let me :P I'm guessing it'll be more difficult!
      The screen was alright tbh, I'd definitely fit a different one tho I'd I bought it. Yeah honestly this and the 950 surprised me a lot with how comfy they were. Haha I got lucky there was a walking man just on the road 😂
      Cruise control is a very nice to have in fairness!!! Haha the snout isn't great!
      Yeah you can have them all man. You may end up single tho 😂😂😂

    Great review! OC - this one but beakless! Just can't be dealing with it and dunno why really. The fun factor might just outweigh the anti beak vibes? Anyhow hope your new surroundings are brill, oh and is there a (non derogatory) term for you NC inhabitants? All the very best, Andy.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha I get that, I'd accept the beak tbh for how good the rest of it is, would have really liked the time to be able to stay with this one for a few more hours than I did :D
      So far so good amigo, will be making a video showing off the new shed video location soon!!
      Not sure actually, I think they adopted the tar heel one as a point of pride but I don't know that yet, depends on the video you watch!! Thanks Andy, hope you're well!

      I've had a multi for nearly four years now (of course, I've had a couple of low mileage years..), and I think the engine is overkill for the upright setup. I think ~100hp is perfect for the class. Would much prefer the V-Strom.

    Nice review on the multistrada. I'm 6'9" and 315lbs. Which bike would you pick between the tiger 1200xcx or multistrada 1200, since you've tested both? I'm lucky I found your reviews, exact bikes I'm looking at. Except, I'm considering the 2019 multistrada Enduro 1260 compared to a 2020 tiger 1200xcx. Thanks for your input.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks!! Hmmm. I've actually thought about this a massive amount recently as I want to buy an ADV ish bike. I think if it were between the two with my current longer distance rides planned I'd go for the xcx, however if you do shorter spins I'd go for the Multi. You'll definitely have more room on the Tiger also.

    • @bobbylewis8226
      @bobbylewis8226 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheGorillaBiker Thank you for your input. Lastly if you have a pillion most of the time, would you still choose the xcx over a duc multi enduro? Thank you and welcome to USA. I used to live in Rocky Mount, NC. I hope you are enjoying Greenville.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all! I think if I was buying it with a pillion in my mind I would definitely go for the xcx, thing is a tank that could easily tow another human alone. I think the Multi would lose some of it's charm loaded down.
      Thank you! Ah nice! Any good riding areas you'd recommend within an hour? :) So far loving it!

    • @bobbylewis8226
      @bobbylewis8226 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGorillaBiker Thanks again for your input. I'm sure everyone is telling you to head to the Outer Banks(OBX). I would agree with them. You don't have to go all the way to OBX and stay inland up and down the coast to find roads more like the homeland. Definitely google map it. After storms some of the roads up and down the coast will have a layer of sand so be careful. There are many routes and some fairies to consider. When weather is nice, good weekend trip with wifey. Cheers.

    I just saw one in town the other day and the front end seemed less offensive in real life than it does in video. I was not up close to it, though. Odd styling choice, to be sure. Maybe having something unique and instantly recognizable among the scores of adventure touring bikes is a calculated ‘risk’ they are willing to take.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not the worst thing I've ever seen and I agree, the bike definitely looks better in the flesh. It's just strange since Ducati generally hit the nail on the head every time style wise, I even love most of the classic stuff that would be considered ugly. That's a fair point, and I mean it's worked for them, those bikes are hugely popular.

    If you ride a 2013S model and the 2015 and newer LTwin, you would prefer the 2013. The engine is just more of a holigan engine. Revving like the SuperBike. Its a narly thing. The DVT bikes are longer and more civilized.

    Not just the beak but the stance of the bike is awkward to to my eyes. It looks as if it is on tip-toe. The wheels seem very small and very detached from all that red plastic. I think Ducatis are bikes I should like but . . . . People do tail tidies and verious delete kits, why not a beak delete ? Your reviews are always good because I know how the bike feels to ride now, any fool can recite specs, and tell me he hasn'r missed a hgear, or that the mirris are bad, but you always communicate the intangibles. We await Gorilla's US tour with bated breath. Good luck with all that.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The stance is thrown off a bit by the beak and screen I think, the front end just looks weird to me, but the bike rides amazingly so I'll forgive it it's flaws. I don't mind the kind of detached look of the wheels, I think the swing arm plays in to that a bit as does the front travel, up close the wheels are beautiful tho. Haha a beak delete is something I would love to see :D
      Thanks Stephen, hat was always the intent so I'm glad it comes across that way :) At the end of the day specs mean nothing if the bike rides terribly on the road(where most of us use the things).
      Thanks! Week two without a bike, I may die soon.
