    Passed my cna exam yesterday. I had pulse, bedpan ,catheter care ,and assist to ambulate with belt. It got rescheduled 3 times but it was good because I just found your videos and I watched them soooo many times leading up to my exam day. I 10000% wouldn’t have passed without them. You pointing out the bold steps that you absolutely can’t miss really saved my ass lol. Thank you 🙏

    If a resident has to use the bathroom, they do not want to hear all of that. One, If call light is on: You ask the client what can you help her with. 2nd If the nurse said the client needs to use the bed pan, You should come in and introduce yourself quickly letting her/him know that you are aware that they need to use the bathroom.
    Wash your hands
    apply gloves
    grab the bed pan
    Let the client know you. are raising the bed in so that you don t kill your back
    Ask the client to assist you in turning to the side where they can grab the bed rail
    place the bedpan measuring right at the two dimples of the back
    have the client turn over on the bed pan
    If it is a woman then ask her to open her legs unless you are going to have a mess
    Take your gloves off
    Put the head of the bed up a little to make it easer to pee
    Give Call light '
    Wash your hands
    Leave the room for Privacy
    Your video is one of the better one's- I don't know why they have RN's Teaching CNA's Class. Only if they were CNA's for at least 2 years or more

      Hi, Kimble!
      First, these are training videos for"testing" not for how you would perform nursing tasks in real life.
      Second, candidates have to perform testable skills as required by the steps listed in their candidate handbook.

    hi Ma'am. thank you so so much for sharing these videos. I have actually not enrolled in any school as of now. however, I want to have a pre-knowledge and understanding of the CNAs written aspects and as well as the skills test well enough before enrolling ASAP. Finding your videos has been a great help for me, and I am optimistic that I can eventually be a CNA by December and January 2018. But while in my course, I will be relying on your skills test videos for home practices. thank you Ma'am.

    • @NURSEJAR
      @NURSEJAR  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sorry, to hear that the boxes covered the actual procedure. To correctly place the bedpan, you need to ensure that the narrow end is facing the foot board and the wider end of the bedpan is facing the head board.

    Great videos! But I have a tiny question hopefully i can get a answer before my test. What about the rails what position they need to be in the test because at work is really important the rails because of falling. Or we don’t have to use rails at the test? thanks!

    • @NURSEJAR
      @NURSEJAR  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Carolina! For testing, you'll need to raise the side rail when turning the client away from you.
      The lowering of the side rail is not shareable. Hence, you will not get flagged for safety if you leave the side rail up after completing the skill.

      Hi, Maddy! Goid luck on your exam!
      I train my students to lower the HOB first, then don clean gloves. But, you may put on gloves first, then lower the HOB.

      Hi, Albiona! The only skills needing the candidate to collect a chux or towel to use as a linen protector is for the skills Catheter Care (chux or towel), Peri-Care (chux or towel), Modified Bed Bath (towel), and Foot Care (towel). It is not necessary to collect a privacy blanket for any of the skills unless otherwise specified in your nurse aide candidate handbook or skills list issued by your state's Authorized Administrator. Hi I'm retaking my test today, I just wanted to note 2 things I noticed based off of my training and what you've stated in this video. First, would you also place a barrier underneath the bed pan so that if an accident were to happen it would not spread or soil linens? And second, would you also raise the bed to a comfortable height before removing the bed pan and it's contents? Or would it be senseless since you would have to leave the bedside with that height?
    Wonderful video!

    • @NURSEJAR
      @NURSEJAR  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sorry for the late response. Hope you did well on your retake. The answer to your question regarding placing a linen protector for the skill "Assist With Use of Bedpan" is "NO!!!" It is not a scored step. In other words, it is not a step in this skill. If you were to place a linen protector, it would not count against you. I always tell my students, do not do more than you have to. Adding extra steps will eventually lead to mistakes!
      Again, body mechanics is not emphasized during testing. You may or may not raise the bed to a comfortable height for you. However, for safety, you must remember to lower it before you walk away from the bed. If you do not, that will be a safety issue and may cause you to fail that skill.

    Julie, at my clinicals last week, I noticed that noone had side rails. When I questioned it, I was told side rails are no longer used because it's a restraint and u need a dr order for it. Does this effect side rails on the state test?

    • @NURSEJAR
      @NURSEJAR  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Kayla! This is very true! Side Rails were once thought to help reduce the risk of persons falling out of bed. However, after years of proven research, CMS and OBRA have deemed side rails to be a danger and unsafe.
      In order for side rails to be raised on a continuous basis, the person MUST have a DOCTOR'S ORDER for their use and the order must be conditional as to use the side rails as ENABLERS (resident may use the side rails to help with bed mobility) and/or "padded" side rails for seizure precautions.
      Many persons have received serious injuries due to limbs becoming entangled in the dead space of the side rails. Side rails have been the cause of many patient deaths due to the person's head being caught in the dead space of the side rails causing the person to suffocate.

      Hi, Kayla! You have to keep in mind that how you perform care in a "real" life setting is completely different from performing the same care for testing.
      During your skills exam, you MUST perform the skill according to the required steps listed for each individual skill. Hence; if a testable skill requires raising of the side rails, then you must perform that step. You always raise the opposite side rail when turning the person away from you. In real life, you would lower the side rail before leaving the person's room. During TESTING, the lowering of side rails is not scored; therefore, during testing, it does not matter if you lower or keep the side rail raised after you have completed the skill.
      Hope this helped you understand better. Just keep in mind that during your Clinical, you're not only enhancing your hands-on skills, but you are also learning how care is provided in "real life". Testing is totally different!

    Hi ms. Julie, I recently took my cna exam and I failed my written part but the instructor said they would email us on our clinical scores later in the day. I never received them so I contacted them and they told me to call prometric and explain my problem. I call prometric and they told me they didn’t have my test scores. I’m from Michigan! Can you give me any advice on what to do about this problem?

      Hi, Taylor! You have actually taken the appropriate steps to retrieve your test scores if not given to you on test day. I'd give it a few more days, then call Prometric again.

      I feel really discouraged on retaking it because I studied really hard for that test.

    Good video but u didn't flash the toilet? What happened to the hand wipes coz you can't put them into the toilet

      Thank you for your questions. You do not have to flush the toilet during the skills test. Also, you do not have to take out the hand wipe from the package. It's very important that you understand and follow the steps of respected skill.
