    Wow! The cool factor just went up another 10 points on this truck. I wasn't aware of the mix/match on the drive train using GM and Ford components plus the over drive gear splitter.And a Cummins/Dodge engine. A trifecta of automotive companies. This truck is off the charts cool and built the way one should be and the main computer controller is sitting behind the steering wheel. Kudos again on the truck build. Not your average diesel swap.

    I got 2 of these gear venders overdrives. 1 in my 94 150 4.9l zf5 and one in my 1997 f350 zf5. They are amazing for when you are climbing a long steep mountain and need a gear between let's say 3rd and 4th because 4th is a bit high but 3rd is to low. Love it. It's basically a super 10 speed transmission.

    I've been toying with the idea of putting one of those under/over boxes in my truck for years. That 3rd to 4th shift in the NV4500 is just such a huge gap. It's definitely always felt as if you could easily squeeze a whole nother gear in between lol. Even 4-5 has quite a gap. Would be really nice to split those gears when driving the steep mountain grades on my commute home!

    😍 Very cool truck, and exceptionally clean! Did you use the off-road design 4wd conversion by chance, or was it a diy fabrication? It was pretty cool that the high pinion 60 aligned well with the GM frame rails! I may be mistaken, but the driver’s side spring perch is cast into the diff housing, isn’t it? You were able to use the stock Ford knuckles, and use the GM’s 2WD steering box and pitman arm?

      If the computer is hooked up there’s a speed sensor that needs to see at least 35mph before it will engage. The hydraulic pump is driven off the driveshaft speed so you don’t want to try to shift below 35mph. If you override that and try to shift going slow it will slip.

      That's not true. I have been using mine for about 13 years on my 1990 D250 with a Cummins and a Getrag 360 and exhaust brake, and it works beautiful. The reason they say don't use them with exhaust brakes is due to some people not having common sense to not splitting gears while going down grade or slowing down. I kick GV off and drop a gear or two down grades and use exhaust brake with no issues. About 245k miles doing that with no issues, I love my gear vendor and exhaust brake.

    My experience with the Gear Vendor is it wouldn't shift into over in second consistently, and it didn't hold up to pulling a trailer.

    • @redeyecafegarage7484
      @redeyecafegarage7484  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They require minimum of 35mph driveshaft speed to shift properly. Mine has been pulling trailers since 1996. Everyone makes fun of me for using the clutch to shift mine 😆 😆 jokes on them. If you use it correctly they last. You cannot lug them, you cannon engine brake with them and always use the clutch. Then they will last.

      @@redeyecafegarage7484 I’ve got a great question what shifter did you use or should I use? I’m keeping my center console so that means I’ll have to get a long shaft and I’ll have to manipulate it by cutting and welding and heating up and bending. I’m looking but they all are expensive and I don’t want to pay 2-300$ when it’s going to jacked up to fit me.

      Nope, the drive shaft was shortened and balanced by a professional driveshaft shop. It runs great at any speed.
