I want to say- it's amazing how much having a little character at the bottom of the screen with the subtitles like a dialog box helps me focus on a technical tutorial. Thank you for sharing!
Currently attempting to create a ps1 style horror game, and while this tutorial is focused on creating blender animations it is still very helpful, especially when it comes to the character design. Thanks a ton!
that's so awesome! part of the reason why I originally forced myself to learn blender was for similar reasons, so glad it helped :) please share the game when it's done! would love to play
for real this is unbelievable. ive never been able to properly dive into blender because I was waiting for a video like this to fully break down the low-poly style. im not really religious....but god bless you bro
SOME THINGS I FORGOT TO MENTION: - the vertex snapping / wobbly effect many ps1 games had - I don’t go over this because it’s not really a technique I use myself, but if you want to achieve that there’s a few tutorials in the playlist that can help you :) just wanted to say that in case someone wanted to fully replicate the look - when creating image textures In this retro look, 256 x 256 pixels is the recommended size - in the download folder with all the assets, there's a final project file with all the animations in place, and there's one with no animations, just all the assets laid out - that way you have the flexibility to play with both! happy creating :)
Your channel has greatly influenced my life path. I really started diving into the creative field after your mixed media vids and now these got me into blender. Just know that there are people out there who REALLY appreciate your posts and the time you take to teach us how to make art.
I can really relate to going from not understanding a word of Blender's technical terms to suddenly feeling awesome for being able to think in the software and understanding the what the nerdy sounding names like "constraints" and "bone hierarchy" means. So dope, man. Thanks for this video.
This is the best blender tutorial i've ever seen. Can you make more tutorials about making these sick ps1 style animations? I got really inspired from you❤
With all the low poly stuff being behind high paywalls which slow progress on game development and videos, you are a blessing! I would love to see more of you work/ tutorials in the future.
thank you so much for making this and thank you for not gate keeping design I think as designers we should be willing to share our processes and how we make stuff. Thank you for taking your time to do this , it does not go unappreciated ❤ ❤🔥
If the title is referring to making animations that look like it was on a PS1 then here is a lot here in the end result that is much much more advanced and different on how it would look on a PS1. I can give that it’s low poly but that is about it.
yup! and most importantly the vertex snapping is missing - the goal here isn’t to perfect the ps1 look as I mention in the video, but if that’s what you’re looking for - there’s some more detailed tutorials in our playlist :)
@@DUMBDAYS ok :) I was looking for the vertex precision yes, and the texture warping and the Gouraud shading and the dithered 16bit framebuffer colors. Those for me is key visual treats of that console generation look (Saturn/PS1)
This video is insanely helpful, thanks a million! However, I'm still having issues when it comes to UV unwrap and texture PS1 style characters. I don't want to use images as stencil but paint the textures myself, the thing is there's a lot to understand! Have you done any in-depth turorials on this subject? Thanks again!!!
we haven’t done any in depth tutorials on this yet , but check out our patreon - we go more in depth on a lot of things there , might do something like that there in the future! But watch the low poly frog tutorial we mentioned, that’s how we learned painting
Very nice!!! If possible can you show us how to make ps2 / gamecube style graphics such as those used in Resident Evil Outbreak or Resident Evil 0 / Resident Evil 1 Remake. :)
hii i tried downloading the male model from sketchfab, but for some reason its not showing up in my files when i try import it to blender. any idea why?😣
make sure if it downloads as a .zip you unpack it first ! and whatever file format it is (I believe that one was an fbx) make sure you’re importing that option
How do you make long animations with several different scenes? Are they all in one project or do you render different ones and then assemble them in editing?
Usually if it’s different Scenes then I do different project files ! Either brand new if it’s something complex that would eat up a lot of processing power or I’ll take whatever current project I have, duplicate it, and then build off that , like for this animation in the tutorial - the others I made for the music video I took that original project file, duplicated it, and then added more stuff off in the distance. That way I can go back to the previous scene if needed :)
@@therealtrashhorrorstory5979 honestly just depends on the animation of the scene! there's no real limit, however most I usually do are in the 300-500 frame range
ah yes true! I think you can also get away with it if its not in a perfect t-pose, just spread out enough, but a proper t-pose is definitely ideal :) thanks for emphasizing that point
Painting it, but that’s a bit tricky with the details, but if you’re in photoshop you could play with changing the hues, or selecting / masking the skin section and painting that way !
make sure you're in material preview or rendered mode once you're in edit mode! (hold down Z and select). sounds like its switching to solid mode for some reason
it's hard to say for sure, but if it's simple stuff like this on the Eevee engine, you should be able to do it - just might take awhile to render! as long as it doesnt get too complicated
yup! and there's a few other things with the texturing I mention if you want to achieve a direct 1:1 look, this is more a general retro look as I talk about in the video :)
you could recreate it for sure , but if you're talking about the trend that's going around right now that transforms normal photos into a ps2 game - that's an AI model!
@@DUMBDAYS yea it’s the trend but I just wanted to know if it was possible but I could use this tutorial to make like my own visuals or even video games?
pretty much yeah! I believe there is a game engine in blender, im not 100% sure how it works, but you could also use blender to create assets and characters to use in a game engine like unity (which is also free) :)@@Evisuusg
same principles apply! Just different texturing / more advanced animation but I talk about it in the video :) and there’s plenty of other tutorials in our playlist for that kinda style !

btw, i tested it already, so if you want mixamo animation to work correctly, your human body must be in T pose

how can i change skin color? i’ve been trying to do it all day

The texture from my model disappears and the model turns gray when i switch from texture to edit mode, how do i fix it?

I just found your channel, could I do animations like this with a GTX1650 & 8GB of Ram?
it's hard to say for sure, but if it's simple stuff like this on the Eevee engine, you should be able to do it - just might take awhile to render! as long as it doesnt get too complicated
you have texture filtering that ps1 wouldn't do or couldn't.

I love you

i dont get how u import the asse ts models are easy objs but buildings ect are always 3 folders or more im so lost
what kind of file are they?
