Every other review I have watched , they managed to launch it perfectly.
No doubt it could launch better than in the video. We have had inconsistencies with BMW launch control in the past. Great when it works, frustrating when it doesn’t.
We did 3 races and 1 extra practice launch and it didn’t get away cleanly on one, whereas the Porsche maintained its perfect launch every time.
BMW are renowned for their woeful launch control, whereas Porsche pretty much set the standard when it comes to launches. Literrally every other channel bears this out.

The forthcoming M4 with X Drive will solve all the launching issues if you'd call them issues at all.
If there's one thing I've learned from TH-cam car videos, it's that you need to spend the first two minutes talking at the camera, because that's what everyone really wants.
I agree. I skip right to the race in every video to avoid all of the talking.
Bear in mind that's the slowest car in the 911 bracket. And is under 400 horse power
Yeah the performance is just incredible especially for that amount of horsepower
bear in mind that porsche is also 225 kg lighter. So yeah M power is killer. ;)

Literally every other youtuber could launch the m4 and get sub 3.9 secs and u guys couldnt launch the m4.Every reviewer said that it launches so well.

Just pure turbo the S58 and the porsche gets destroyed. The B58 people have already got 1260bhp. It can make over 800bhp without forging anything. Then the S58 is a different animal.
Bought the 992-911 Carrera, did the wheel upgrade, PSE, Chrono, colour (Crayon), roof etc. take it nearer £100k. But I have always wanted a 911. 1,000 miles and still haven't used Sport + yet, let alone launch. Lovely car. Where do you drive using launch control every day? Would I have an M4, of course I would.
So a 510bhp rwd M4 just beats a 385bhp rwd base 911? Anyone finding this impressive really?

The trick is you have to warm up the tires before racing. Burnouts are key to a great launch in rear wheel drive cars.
It’s a great point. The BMW’s Cup 2s need heat in them to provide proper grip. Suspect they lost most of their heat inbetween the drag races, hence the difficulty off the line. Most other tests we’ve seen have been done with the M4 on less temperature sensitive Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
Drag races don’t tell us much but fun to watch and Chris and James job well done 👍

Was expecting a better launch if it had Cup 2s on
We thought that initially. But since we did the drag races about 5 mins apart, the Cup 2s could easily have fallen below operating temp between each race, thus impacting performance.
💯What we really need to see is a 60 to 130 mph run.

Keep in mind...the 911 won without launch control...the M4 lost with launch control...that should indicate something about BMW's launch control system. (Just saying)

@@nassermohd2317 true, however BMWs are know to have malfunctioning launch controls. I don’t know why. You’ll never see a Porsche failing it’s launch unless the driver messes up. Plus, Porsche launch control is super easy-left foot on brake, right foot on gas, release brake and there you go! Porsches are the ultimate track cars.

That 911 doesn't even have the Chrono pack, so no launch control.
Not so. Launch is controlled from the central switches like windows everything can be done other ways. See Joe Achilles vid on 992 base version

@@stevosd60 Launch was not active he was holding the throttle and brake.
First the car needs to be in Sports Plus for Launch, his car doesn't have a Sports plus mode.
Next you'd hear an audible alert to say it's active, no alert.
Finally its only active it for a few seconds Joe is clearly chatting along.
But hey, you want to believe a TH-camr over someone who's owned 2 922 911s since release, go for it. I don't think Joe was lying he just maybe meant something else. Try walking into an OPC and ask them or head over to a Porsche owners club forum and they'll be happy to advise. Don't believe everything you hear on TH-cam!
@@mattsurrey6138 Thanks Matt, always eager to learn. A lot of you Tubers out there saying the basic model is 'good enough' for UK roads. I test drove a 992 4 S and the launch was insane. Makes me think how often could I use that power on UK roads. So have ordered a base model with Chrono pack, sports exhausts and a stack more... Amazing how quickly 89K can turn into over 100K when you specify extras you would like to have. All I've got to do now is wait a year...

Do not use BMW launch control. It's very iffy and doesn't work properly. And that grill is so ugly too...there are now aftermarket front bumper/grill packages available.

On the third race, the M4 launched a split second before the 911. So, for a perfect launch on the M4 you activate the controls and cross your fingers. On the cheapest 911 available you just go.

It’s 1/5 mile. Ish.
I've got the M3 Xdrive and it launches amazingly well. But the weight tells once you are up to a moderate speed and if I am honest it doesn't feel any quicker than my old F82 M4, which was around 70-80bhp down, but weighed a fair bit less (also it had the DCT). The G80 m3 Xdrive is certainly a quick car cross-country, as long as the roads are reasonably wide, but perhaps it's not so exciting as the previous version. I loved my old F82, even if it did want to kill you occasionally, especially in the wet :D

Nothing can mess with a Porsche 911. Even the very basic 911 Carerra model is nothing to fuck with.
You have to bring the Porsche 992.2 S minimum

My 2022 AWD M4 Competition launches incredibly hard and no wheel spin. I destroyed a 2022 911 Carerra S when we drag raced

In terms of pound for pound, no other cars puts power down like Porsche does.
Looks like c8 vs gt500 just a german version haha. Nobody can beat weight distribution off the line. I'll take the c8 and 911 over the m4 and gt500 even if the mid engined cars don't pull as hard.

I hope they do. Why not? You think comparison videos should only be cars in the same segment? It's just content. It's fun to see how car A compares to car B. It's not a comparison for the sake of what a person would buy when they're shopping for a car.
New M4 and base Carrera are in the same price bracket, hence the comparison.
@@hey_myk I agree with with regards to the price, but the Porsche is a purpose built 2 seater sportscar. I think customers who buy the M4 would like the practicality of the seats at the back for the kids and the boot space for long distance traveling. They convinced their wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend its a practical car. So they would also look at the RS5 and C63 coupe, and a maybe a few others in that same segment. The customers that buy the Porsche would also be looking at the Alipine, Supra, F Type, New Nissan Z, Z4, And even C8 Corvette. But we all know Porsche's are always better than even those cars in its own segment. I love Porsches, its the ultimate drivers car. I do think BMW has done a good job with the new M4 besides the front grill. But the M4 will never be better to drive than a Porsche.
@@aowen1079 I think there has always been cross-shopping of M3/M4 vs 911 with the BMW being a more practical coupe. If you google M3 vs 911 you’ll see lots of discussions around buyers choosing between the two. 911 is also not a 2 seater. Plenty of people buy them because they can put kids in the back vs pure 2 seaters.
@@hey_myk I disagree. The base price for the M4 is $73k while the base price for the 911 Carrera is $99k. That's almost $30k difference.

BMWs have always had near perfect 50/50 weight distribution it's what most of BMW's ads are based on.
Just do not use the launch control on the M4. Switch everything off and manually manage the wheelspin. Launch control will sense wheelspin
and cut the power.
True But it also helps if you launch it in 2nd gear. Gives you better power management
@@lxrdnxtii6124 I think that it launches in second gear the same as my Jaguar V8S. Unless I manually select first gear. However, the Jag doesn't have launch control, doesn't need it. Launch control has become popular with turbo engines to allow for turbo lag. See Porsches. I think that the true measure of a car's performance is 5mph to 60 mph.

Warm the tyres, leave launch control activated long enough to build boost. But not too long that it Bogs down. Picked up my g80 M3 last Saturday, had it run in on Monday. Launch has never failed me so far, surprisingly moves off in 2nd gear and not first. Works wonders for me

Lucky you. In AUS an 18 plate gts can be had for around 270k. A new M4 for around 180k.

Problem is we haven’t had a auto industry for a few years now but our government make so much money from it, I doubt they will get rid of it. I would love a 2nd hand 991.2 gts but I can’t justify that price ATM. That why I’m test driving the M3 on Sunday.

Carrera S should be a better comparison.
I've got a 992 4S and the figures do feel conservative to me. I've yet to see any untuned 992 911s on the dyno for evidence, but mine feels healthily quicker than the figures suggest.
Main benefit though, obviously, the 911 can be observed from the front without hurting your eyes. I've had a BMW in the past, before you label me fanboy, and it was the previously-ugliest one - a 325ti Sport Compact with those silly little headlights. Great car, but glad I was inside it.

A Porsche is still a Slim Sports car, an M4 is a saloon 😹😹😹 as much as it had more power but it was still heavier and when they add x-drive to it, it’ll be even heavier but it will rip at the dig.

I watch a tonne of these videos of drag races with modern launch control this and that and whatever, and I am pretty sure, they used to duff them up less back in the old days with manual transmissions. The cars are better, they just must be, but the drivers? From what I can tell...they are worse, much worse.
