I was too much of a punk rocker to enjoy this when it first came out, but I probably respected it. Decades later hearing it, I'm blown away how good his voice is, and how good the song is. Blinders slowly come off as the years go by.
Man. This band are from my city and I heard them soooo often in the 80s as a teenager and didn't 'get' them. But now in my 50s and I'm more broad minded musically I have to say, I really enjoyed that.
When we were in the 80s, the crazy good music was all over the place, and was so normal, it was so easy to take everything for granted. It just felt like, this was going to be how things were ALWAYS going to be. Now, it's so hard to hear the 80s music, and not wish that you could go back to that time period again, and enjoy it so much more.
I'm surprised you've never reacted to Simply Red before. This is the song to break you in. He voice has so much feeling in the forms of both beauty and pain.
Simply Red are one of THE GREATEST bands out of the UK in the last 40+ years. Mick Hucknall is one of the greatest voices of the twentieth century, period. Their catalogue is varied and fantastic.
Great song. There's an awesome live version here somewhere. Took me a while back then to appreciate his talent as I was beginning to be a die hard metal fan.
Hi TNT. Mick Hucknall is still performing today. His voice and charisma has not changed, you might like to view recent performances. Well done for the reaction. From the UK from a 72 year old.
I remember this band debuting back in the 80's - amazing song. I was trying to figure out where the video was shot and after seeing the ruined abbey in the background I'm pretty sure it's Whitby ,or for others it's none as the abbey from Dracula when he lands on the English coast aboard the Demeter.
He wrote this when he was a teenager, his mother abandoned the family unit. Just incredible vocal too. The fact people didn’t like him drove him on. I hated him and the band for many reasons. The older I’ve got the more I love his voice and music.
Same song , first chance listen 30 + yrs ago , just as jarring and amazing, WOW , haven’t stopped and really Listened to this song in decades ,would press play and got lost in this song when required.
This band has always been one of my favorites since their first hit in the 80's.Mick Hucknall,he can sing anything. He sounds exactly the same now as then.Watch o concert or two of simply red and think you'll be hooked
PAULETTE REAVES - IT'S IN ME . RAY BENNETT JR - WHEN YOU HEAR LOVE CALLING. EBONEE WEBB - HERE MY LOVE IS. FIVE O'CLOCK - WHEN THE CAT'S AWAY. MELBA MOORE - YOUR SWEET LOVIN. VERA BROWN & RICH GIRLS - TOO MUCH TOO FAST. WQBC - I'LL BE LOVING YOU. STARSHINE - ALL I NEED IS YOU. CAROL SHINNETTE - CYANIDE LOVE. VAUGHAN MASON - FEEL MY LOVE. TEENA MARIE - IT MUST BE MAGIC.

Yes, blinders do come off as the years go by......
Same.
Same here!
He wrote this when he was about 17, autobiographical. Mick has a phenomenal voice.
Still has it too!
I love it when the muted trumpet kicks in. It sounds so perfect for the song.
I love your reaction! It looks like you’re softly crying and so moved from this song! ❤️
Excelente musica dos Simply Red.

Heartbreakingly beautiful song about how he struggled after his Mom left him and his Dad.
Another classic!
“Stars” is another good song from them!

His voice is insane, so smooth and full of soul.

Simply Red has a ton of great material! Have fun listening
Why do I keep missing these livestreams? I have been busy but this song would have sent me back to the 80's, to a simpler time.
🇬🇧 Simply Red's 1985 hit 'Holding Back The Years' features the soulful voice of the song's writer, Mick Hucknall (born 1960, in Manchester) 🇬🇧
this song hits hard...

The maturity of the arrangement is amazing to me, as exampled by the muted trumpet.
That song was huge in Europe.
You should listen to his song Sunrise.
Mick Hucknall has a beautiful voice ❤
Brilliant Mick Hucknall (born in Manchester, England 1960).
His beautifully soulful 'Holding Back The Years' was released in 1985. 🇬🇧

Name one reason you hated him. His voice is a gift from God.
@ because he was Manchester united fan and he was full of ego in his interviews. There’s two. As I’ve gotten older he’s definitely mellowed down too.
@fayesouthall6604 That's a soccer team or something? I've never seen an interview with him. Hopefully he mellowed as he aged.
@@fayesouthall6604man city is just oil money, man united is effort 🥱. But agreed beautiful voice
