That is Mike Hucknall. He wrote this when he was 17. This was recorded when he was 25. Not Irish, British, from Manchester, UK. The Red in the group's name is because he was a huge Manchester United Football (soccer) fan. You have got to see him perform this live. He sounds exactly the same live, even into his 50's. Thanks for bringing back a forgotten favorite of mine from the '80's, back when I was a teen.
You need to hear him sing the song called Stars.
Mick has an amazing voice! I love the cover they did of “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” check it out, you will love it! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
Mick Hucknall and his band Simply Red have a great catalogue especially the first 2 albums 🎶🎵🍯🤌🙏🐝🍀
I love the way you are so open to different types of music. I was a teenager and young adult in the 80's it was a great time for music there was a lot of creativity and experimentation. It was also the hey day of the music video!
I love all their music - crazy sound! Go find the rest - you will be blown away.
Simply red live
His voice is perfection
Michael McDonald who sang backup and keyboards for Steely Dan and he became a member of the Doobie Brothers, finally he had a very rewarding and successful solo career.
Thank you!! Glad someone knew who he was other than me!! ❤️
Did compilations with patti labelle on one of her top hits and many other relevant artists of the time. Honestly i think mcdonald is better than this guy not to smear simply red stuff
“If you don’t know me by now” - another banger! He sounds the same live, too!! Golden voice!
They were fantastic. 80' music the best! The album brilliant. I even saw them in concert in the 80's in London..❤
I recall first time hearing this song, hell of a party. Favorite song to this day.
I was 19 when this wonderful song was released, listening to it takes me back to 80's best years ever 😊
Love this song! Everyone is so surprised by Mick's voice and the way he looks! He's from England and this is from the 80s! U should check out his cover of If you don't know me by now! U will love it!
Simply Red is a ICON to the gentle soul classics, Next listen to " If You Don't Know Me by Now by Simply Red. Beautiful voice and classic.
Simply Red & Mick Hucknell’s voice were just one of the great 80’s bands that were the soundtrack to my early childhood, encouraging me to study & work in music. His voice is superb & yes it’s very soulful! I agree with other commenters that you should definitely check out their version of “If You Don’t Know Me By Now”. I really enjoyed your reaction. Glad you got to experience Simply Red. Lots of love & looking forward to the next one xx
Love this ... Reminds my youth, when "rap is the only music worth listening to, rest don't count" I always rolled my eyes when my Mommy turned the volume up every time it was played on the radio. I was in high school, and that is what rap rap-core fan born in 1980 can tell rap-core artist born in 1980" too 🎶🎶🎶🎤🎶💜🙂
This song and others by Simply Red were extremly popular in the late 80's! (Simply Red and Sadé,....so smoothe)! These were musically great times!
I increasingly get the feeling that the best in the music world is long behind us. Today there are often no real ideas anymore, and little depth and quality. Well....
Oh my...Sade...Smooth Operator...so fine!!!
