- In this video we continue working on the 1998 Silverado Extended Cab 4x4 that recently got lifted. We will be giving this truck quite the make over.
IT is the time you all have been waiting for, we paint this truck! We are using Speedokote Bright White Base Coat and Speedokote High Production Clearcoat.

@chilo thank you! The fans make a huge difference, I didn't show a clip with the filters in, which I did add, it keeps the fumes clear of the work area.
@chilo great question, I do use a leaf blower after I do body work to clean out the shop.

Was a gallon of white and gallon of clear enough?
Yes it was more than enough to do that entire truck and I had about a quart of sprayable clear and paint left. The Speedokote white has excellent hiding properties, it is not reduced like many other paints on the market.
Looks awesome, but what kind of primer/sealer did you use on it before spraying? I hope my job looks this good

This paint holds up very well. This truck sees construction sites everyday and still looks great!
I'm fairly new to this paint stuff so is a base coat basically just the main paint color? So the process would be 1. sealer/primer 2. base coat (3 coats) 3. clear coat?
Hey Johnny! You are correct, the basecoat often is your 'color coat' in a base coat - clear coat paint job.
1. Body work
2. Primer - final sanding
3. Sealer
4. Basecoat
5. Clearcoat

The Mark1 Refinish pro can handle both very well. I've only used the MV1 for clear. You may have to play with the pressure to get the finish you are after.
Looks great, I have been using speedokote clear here recently how is the longevity with it does it seem to last a while?
Thank you! I have been very happy with the Speedokote products, they hold up well over time. I will have to post up some videos of old paint jobs.

Do you think the pearl is needed to make it look this good? Also what was the mix ratio for the base coat?
The Bright White base coat is really bright, adding pearl just gives it an extra sparkle.
Mix ratio for the base coat is 1 part paint to 1 part reducer.

Thank you, it all depends on what needs to be done, this truck had metal work, and various other items done that would not be in a standard paint job.

Did the paint come with the pearl mixed in?

For this truck I used PPG Silver Pearl. I added about 5 grams per 600 ml of clear. You will definitely want to add Pearl to the clear and use that as a mid coat. Otherwise the pear will get lost in the white base coat.

This is off the gun. There was no cut or buff done.

How many coats of clear did you use?
2 coats of clear
I'm looking at ordering this paint for my first paint job - is it ok to use with Speedokotes Acrylic Sealer?
I recommend using sealer under any basecoat. It will give you a smooth surface for your paint to lay on and add extra adhesion.
How was the blue spray gun
I was very happy using both of these spray guns. This was my first time using them and I have no complaints.

Good question, I mentioned in the previous video that these rollers are just for the paint job. Mismatched wheels and worn out tires.

I did this with about 7/8 of a gallon of basecoat. The Speedokote bright white is reduced 1 to 1.

Where did you get the pearl?
The pearl I used is a PPG product, I would have to check the number, you can get them online or a your local paint supplier.
Nice job I love SMR -135 I prefer SMR-130 for completes but it looks like you got great results. I guess that bright white base from speedokote covers well I might pick some of that up. Just subscribe thanks for the video
Thank you. The bright white base coat has amazing coverage. I used PPG prior to this and the Speedokote hides 30% more per pass.

@@Thatonedude1979 I have been using DBC, I was shocked with how well it covered. In a previous video I painted some black plastic parts and was shocked how well the Speedokote covered.

Brother what psi did you shoot that base coat with?
Basecoat was sprayed with the black window clone at 24 psi. Clear was sprayer at 31 psi.

You're welcome, your basecoat should lay nice and wet. I've definitely done the same thing in the past.
How much bass coat did you use
Good question. I used about 7/8 of a gallon, the base was refused 1 to 1 so just under 2 gallons of sprayable paint. The Speedokote bright white base coat har excellent hide properties.
How much was the the paint and clear coat an what is it all exactly
This is Speedokote Bright White basecoat and Speedokote Production clearcoat. I added PPG PRL 92 (bright white pearl) to the mid-coat to achieve this color.
Paint, primer, filler (cab corner was replaced in previous video) was roughly $700 which included the Pearl.
There was a lot of body work that went into this with the roll pan, smooth bumpers, dents on just about every fender, smoothing the bedrail, color matched mirrors, color matched grille, additional wiring for lights, mirror lights ect. Total cost was around 7k on the whole job.
How many coats of base coat and clear coat?
2 coats of base and 3 coats of clear.

I believe I have seen every video Marco has put up on his Speedokote network. I use Speedokote products at home because of the cost/value for your $$$ and they work well.
But what about that paint gun? Looks like it has a nice wide fan. I'm pretty sure it is a rebranded Chinese gun, because they have companies that will do that if you order in bulk. But if it works, it works. Is it a better gun than the eco version? And last question, is there an option for a 1.2 cap and needle set? New subscriber btw🐻👍

The MV1 spray gun (wide fan) was purchased from Marco, It may be a clone, I purchased from him because the 1st gun I got from him completely transformed my painting. I used the Marc1 eco in 37 degree weather to finish a job that my other gun had crapped out on. I did make a small spring pressure adjustment, but aside from that I never had any problems with it. When he brought out the new line I got the two new ones and I love them.
The refinish pro (blue) is better than the eco, the MV1 is the way to go on any large paneled vehicle. I think it came with a 1.3 & 1.2. The 1.3 and right pressure setting creates an amazing result.
I didn't believe Marco when he said, he doesn't cut or buff anything, but after switching, I would never go back. For the first time in years I can lay glass consistently and not have to fool around with gun settings, which is a nice place to be.
@@3Wheels1Block awesome. Not having to buff is a Huge time saver. And honestly, a paint gun should be able to deliver smooth results if used properly. Orange peel is annoying.(excessive peel, not factory matched). I settled in on 2 Iwatta W 400's and that helped me a Lot compared to the el-cheapo guns I started with. I would like to try that MV1 to see what I can make it do....
