I was never much into all the fireworks and stuff so not many stories really. Oh, this one is a little "R" rated. In the 1980's when I was in my 20's, a certain "white powder" that people loved to sniff all the time was the rage. One of my buddies sold this powder as sort of a side gig for his regular job. So are little group never had to pay for it. So, I was a truck driver in Manhattan this 4th of July and I delivered candy, soda and cigarettes' to all the bodegas and convenience stores. I had a delivery to an upscale deli near Central Park south on 8th ave. Ironically, not too far from the Bubba Gump store. But it wasn't there at the time. It was around 100 cases of soda, candy and cigarettes' that took more then ten trips to bring all that into the deli. The owner or manager was this youngish wise ass dude and he watched me bring all that soda in. Then when I was done, he told me it goes in the basement around back so I needed to pick it all up again and bring it there down these rickety old cement stairs. I was pissed because he clearly waited for me to bring it all in before he told me I brought it to the wrong place. He thought that was funny. I basically told him I wasn't going to do it and he could go f... himself. And I don't care if you call my boss or not. Well, one of the workers was his buddy and he told me he would help me bring it to the basement and then he would make it worth my effort. So I reluctantly agreed. Because my cheapskate boss would make it a royal pan for not kissing the customers butt. When we got it all downstairs, the friend took me into a back room and he had I have no idea how much coke laid out on a table. We had a ball the next 45 minutes or so and then I had to finish my rout. But It went by so fast it felt like I didn't even do it. LOL.
When I was a kid, I lit a bottle rocket upside down by accident. The flame shot out and melted straight through the top of my shoe. Luckily I was okay, my foot wasn’t burned at all, but it scared the hell out of me lol.
I think Jenny always loved Forrest, but because of the trauma she suffered from her dad's abuse, she never felt good enough for anyone, especally Forrest. So she spent her life always gravitating to abusive relationships and destructive behavior. It wasn't until little Forrest was born that she finally saw self-worth, but unfortunately a little too late. Her story is a tragic one.
It's an extraordinary toxic trait of narcissists to blame past abuse for their personal life decisions. Jenny was a terrible human being. I dislike that the movie tries to make it seem that she isn't responsible for every destructive choice she makes. At no point does she take any responsibility for her actions and she is never held accountable for the wave of destruction she leaves behind her. Forrest deserved so much better.
Jenny never saw Forrest like a man but like a friend she was conscious about his condition. She decided finally get married him because she was going to die and wanted to make happy Forrest and wanted their son could live with his father a very good man.
Let's be brutally honest here and not kid ourselves: what normal woman would be attracted to and choose to spend the rest of her life with a low IQ man-child like Forrest? Nobody will admit this to themselves or to others, but the answer is very very few if not any. The best Forrest could've hoped for is either someone like him or, if he were unlucky, a sociopathic gold-digger that would make his life a living hell.
Tom Hanks is such an amazing actor. The way he delivered that line when he found out he had a son "is he smart or.. or" and the facial expression he had.. it was one of the best moments of acting I've ever seen. I'm not even sure if the writer and director intended for it to be that way, or if Tom Hanks just made it so.
Yeah he was totally in the moment in that scene and just let the character take over. Forrest always knew he was different but rarely showed his self-awareness.
One of the best facts I learned from this movie was that Gary Sinise (LT. Dan), after playing a disabled veteran, dedicated the literal REST OF HIS LIFE up to the present to help Disabled Vets with the Gary Sinise Foundation. In addition to doing numerous other benefits and such for veterans all around the country.
Vets seriously don’t get the respect and help they deserve. There’s a huge difference in the brain of a vet compared to that of a civilian. They’ve been wired differently and most who’ve served combat tours have a hard time adjusting back to normal life. Why can’t we be more connected as a society to the people who risk their lives to protect us? In my opinion, we should bring back the draft. Way too many 🐱 in our younger generations of the west.
The part I love in this movie, and I'm glad you showed it, is when Bubba finishes naming all the shrimp dishes and they look at each other to subtly show Forrest actually listened to every word he said and didn't just tune him out. That's who Forrest was.
I am officially an old guy. A lot of the historical references here will be lost on you. You caught the Elvis thing pretty quick. The football coach at Alabama was BearBryant, one of the greatest. When Forrest shows his wound to LBJ it is funny because there was a famous incident where LBJ showed the press his scar from having his Gall bladder removed. When China was closed off to the West, the process of opening things up began with Henry Kissinger and “ping pong diplomacy.” Hurricane Carmen was a real event. John Lennon’s “Imagine,” Watergate, the running craze, there are too many to list.
Also "Have a nice day" :), "Shit Happens" Bumper sticker, Kennedy federalizing the National Guard and deploying them to Alabama State so two black students could enroll.
A great movie and a great study on how people deal with trauma. Jenny, Forrest, and Lt. Dan. The biggest battles we will ever fight are with ourselves. Forrest never had that internal chatter and second guessing. He took everything literally and didn't assign negative connotations to what he was experiencing.
Yet Forrest didn't have the same trauma as Jenny or Lt. Dan. I feel like Forrest, though he had trauma, was poised to do better because he was able to overcome them more easily (i.e his legs as a kid) yet Jenny can't have her SA removed and Lt. Dan couldn't get his legs back (until wayy at the end when prosthetics finally were viable). I feel like if the moral of the story is some sort of pro "grit" or "hardiness" aspect to life then I think that isn't very helpful given the uniqueness of each character's path in life. I think of course the message is that, throughout history, everyone goes through trauma, and people respond to it in different ways. Not one is necessarily better or worse (because each character didn't live the life of the other so we don't know how they would have responded), but we all walk around with our own baggage and our own history. We really should walk away here with an empathy for people's experiences, whether they have bad outcomes (Jenny), mostly lucky outcomes (Forrest), or bad-to-good outcomes or finding peace (Lt. Dan).
28:00 little mastermind detail (one of many) forrest didnt even think about pulling the magazine out to prove it to the other guy who doubted his story, didnt care about proving a point or maybe he is so pure he didnt even understand that the other guy thought it was irony, he only pulled the magazine out to actually show the old lady how lt. dan looks like and nothing else... this is so amazing to me :)
"Is he smart or is he...." breaks me everytime. Also when Lt. Dan comes to the wedding with an asian woman by his side showing that though the he were in the Vietnam war he have no preconceptions. This whole movie man... this whole movie.
Hey Jon Engqvist! Forrest Gump is 1 of those movies that never gets old for me! Whenever I watch it, I just find that it is SO engaging and well-acted that it feels like it is a quick watch even though the movie is almost 2 1/2 hours long. And despite it being a fictional story, I still find it to be very inspirational, and it has moments that I think most people can relate to on an emotional level. And Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (Even though Forest might not have Autism, I think him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that Last Year, I actually posted a video on my TH-cam channel that was almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique. If you have a few minutes sometime and are interested, here is a link to that video: th-cam.com/video/Or-sIiNANYg/w-d-xo.html If you don't check it out, no worries at all! I won't be offended! But Thank You So Much in advance if you do see it! I hope you Have a great day today, Jon Engqvist! Please Stay Safe and Stay Awesome! 🙂🙂🙂
Also something I loved about this movie is that Forest didn’t really change much throughout the movie but it was more so the people around him who changed around him
I love that details....when Dany told Forrest that when he will be captain, he will be an astronaout. And then....I got new legs. Custom-made. Titanium alloy. It's what they use on the space shuttle.
Tragic that Jenny internalized her trauma so deeply that she just couldn't allow herself to believe that anyone could love her the way Forrest said he did...and then, when she'd finally managed to get beyond it and pull her life together, she contracted AIDS, which was an utter mystery at the time. The reality then was that doctors didn't know how to treat it and that it was simply a death sentence.
I don't get why everyone hates her. She was deeply damaged and really had no sense of self worth. She did hurt Forrest, but I don't think she did it out of malice or selfishness. She really thought she didn't deserve anyone who respected her.
Fun fact, Jenny never died from aids because if she did wouldn't you think Forrest would of contracted the virus after sleeping with her. How she really died (and this is coming from the director himself Robert Zemeckis) Jenny died from hepatitis c!
The hype is real, hysterical and heartbreaking. I love how at the end Forrest notices Lt. Dan's "magic legs." Lt. Dan points out that they're made from the same material as the Space Shuttle, then the next year Forrest and Lt. Dan are in Apollo 13 together. P.S. My Mom looked exactly like Sally Field in this, it freaked me out, we thought she had a secret movie career 👀
That line, when Forrest finds out about Little Forrest and asks, "Is he smart, or is he..." and gestures toward himself. That scene punches me right in the soul. Every time I see it. Forrest is very aware of his limitations.
Forrest, essentially, was the feather floating and going wherever the "wind' (life) moved him. He didn't overthink or 2nd guess - he just went with it - - - sorta a childlike curiosity so to speak. Not surprising Curious George was his favorite book.
The dialogue between John Lennon and the rest was actually lyrics to John Lennon's song "Imagine". Or at list it was supposed to be the inspiration behind them.
Jenny was very likely one of the earliest victims of the HIV/Aids Virus before Doctors knew what it was. I've always assumed that was the Virus she had in this film.
@@dr.burtgummerfan439 To be honest it was a good decision. Both were discovered around the same time, and would fit the story and time period. But AIDs was a far more fatal disease, I think at the time wasn't it almost a 100% mortality rate? Actually caused a lot of terror and fear in society as a whole, people would get fired from their jobs, kids expelled from school. I remember growing up with that stuff in school, having to be educated how to be around someone who has AIDs. ie things to do and not do, and if you follow those rules it's safe to be around them. So I think it's a good change, even if they don't mention it by name in the film itself, but I think that is the mystery disease everyone would of assumed Jenny had.
@@Alte.Kameraden yeah it's the iconic life of someone who was basically in the middle of every big U.S. event or historical person. AIDS would be the only thing that fit both that description and the word "virus". So without saying it they pretty much told us what it was.
I know Jenny did bad things but deep down in Jenny theirs just a broken little girl that misses her mother and wanted to escape from her abusive father and just wanted to be with her best friend forest.
So glad that you did get Jenny. I think Jenny was the second most important person in the movie. The movie showed her life from basically the same time as it started with Forest. [some reactors get Jenny wrong, allot of reactors love Forest so much they don't like Jenny] She truly loved Forest and had the same deep down kind nature as he. She was the only one to befriend him on the bus at the very start to show her good nature. [and continued to be his good friend through high school, imagine how hard that was with all the bullies still on Forrest's case, so to speak] Others will comment on the trauma she would have had to deal with [an obviously very deep wounding of her] so I won't go into that, just point out that they [as the two main subjects of the plot] were basically two kind hearted and worthy people from two different upbringings. She talks of how their lives are so different. [recognizing her flaws] She repeatedly lets Forrest know she Does Love Him [always in a sad tone, knowing she could hurt the one true constant good in her life if she let him into hers then] And not wanting to hurt the only true one she did love would say "You don't want to marry me" [imagine how it must have hurt her to have to tell him that!]. She had to fix herself [with no help from anyone in those days -totally on her own to heal herself] before worthiness could take place. Forrest helped everyone! And the way he helped her was finally to let her find the first true lovemaking she had ever done after she recovered at his house. [her choice finally to see it's OK to have a good man watch over her as she obviously made the best decision of her life to "clean up" -with all the sleeping that was needed] When she agreed with Forrest that he would make a good husband on those stairs it led to the final "fix" that happened when she would have felt so badly when he thought she didn't love him. She finally allowed herself to express to him [and herself] the lovemaking she had never known and was always afraid to accept. It was real. It was good. [for both of them] And it was time to leave [yes, once again] but this time Not Running. It was time to make herself a good clean life without his help to be sure she wouldn't hurt him to be with him. [remember she was really new to the clean life, with just those few weeks or so clean so far] She proved it to herself and It isn't clear in the movie but she may well have written the letter for him to come before she found out her condition [he was running for years] and either way I believe she would have contacted Forrest about his child even if she had not come down with Hepatitis C. Remember when she left the last time she would not have known she was pregnant yet, just that she needed to be sure she was worthy to live up to the love she felt for him that night of her first true loving. Two deep down Good People, with very different lives who none the less helped each other throughout their life's even as differently as it went for them. One finding it very easy to let the deep-down good person show, the other struggling greatly to let that nature show. Together it showed in both of them easily. It was a true love story from beginning to end. That's all I got to say about that.
Hey Jon Bruton! WOW! You make many great points in your comment here that I had Not considered before, and it was ended with the perfect last sentence ("That's all I got to say about that"). LOL! Forrest Gump is a movie that when I saw it at a younger age, I definitely didn't understand how Jenny was also "running" but Not in the literal sense like Forrest did. I guess the contrast between Jenny's path and Forrest's path is what makes this story so special! And Yes, the people who hate Jenny should really direct the monster label to her abusive father instead....As for this movie itself, I often connect with it personally because my brother actually has Autism (Even though Forest may not have Autism, I think him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that Last Year, I actually posted a video on my TH-cam channel that was almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). @@ollie511 I just watched it. Beautiful! Very well suited for the clips you showed. Thanks for the link. and for showing that really well done love story of those two differently raised but non the less naturally good kind people and how they interacted throughout their lives. I like that you are able to see some of the real beauty in the movie some overlook.
@@jonbruton3557 Bless Your Heart, Jon! It means the world to me that you took time from your day to check out the video! Thank You So Much for doing so, and for commenting back to me so quickly! I really appreciate it! You Stay Safe, Stay Awesome, and Have A Great Weekend, Jon! 😊
I can honestly say, this is one of my all time favorite movies. It just has so much in it and it is very well acted. Before I watch, I just want to comment, Jenny either died from AIDS or Hep C. I hear in the book it was Hep C but I never read the book so. Also, I feel Jenny wasn't being bad to Forrest by leaving him. I think she was trying to save him from her own "F..ed up" Life. She felt Forrest was too good and pure for her and didn't want to drag him down with her. So thats why she kept leaving because she clearly loved him. When I was about Forrests' age when he got hit with the rock, a kid hit me in the ear with a rock during a "rock war" once too. I ended up getting an infection cause you didn't take your kid to the doctor in the 60's for every little bump and bruise. I lost like 5% hearing in that ear but to be honest I don't even notice much unless I pout ear buds on. But it's better than what my much much older brother did. he shot his best friend in the eye with a bee bee gun when they were like 12. It hit the white part of his friend's eye so he didn't lose all of his site. And no, you didn't sues people back then very often either. Vince, thats suppose to be Bear Bryant at the football games. Oh, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company is an actual company. The dude named it from this movie. i know they have an outlet in Times Square for one. f
All Jenny's bad childhood memories have Forrest in them, he was her safety line. So being with him and being back home brings back all those bad things she wanted to run from. She told him to run because she wanted to but was too afraid. When things get hard she runs away and starts over again. Not wanting to be an unstable mother she got help to deal with the past. And when she got sick she gave her lifeline to her son.
@@frank5891 According to the book someone said. They left it ambiguous in the movie I think to allow more people to connect their personal journeys in life. Baby boomers, remember hepatitis. and Generation X HIV. Who named it HIV (high five)? From the time of getting HIV to death was around 7 years.
One of my earliest memories was in 1st grade, and it was veterans day- so we were watching a video in class about a mom and son going to a war memorial, and seeing a war veteran with no legs at the memorial. My teacher started talking to us about the video, and when she asked who the man in the wheelchair was (expecting “a veteran” or something like that) I said “ITS LIEUTENANT DAN!!” All excited and happy because I love this movie and always have apparently- and she was SHOCKED that a kid that age would have watched that movie and comprehended/paid attention to it enough to remember a character by name and appearance. I think that’s what’s so special about forrest gump (both the character and the movie) he knows so much and he teaches such important life lessons, but he says it in a way that makes sense to anyone and everyone- no matter their age or iq. It’s really special that there’s a movie like that, so everyone can learn from it and grow through the lessons they learn. I know for a FACT this movie will always be a favorite of mine.
From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C), Forrest Gump is a story of the touchstones of a generation; our triumphs, our tribulations, the questions we asked about life, the answers we found, the moments big and small which shaped our lives.
Nice reaction, guys! Thank you. Now you're ready for Tom and Michael Clarke Duncan in THE GREEN MILE. OMG, it's as good as this one and Tom is such a cool guy that he gave Lt Dan a cameo! Do not miss it you two because it's one of the best movies you'll ever see.
According to Tom Hanks, Forrest’s speech was: “Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don’t go home at all. That’s a bad thing. That’s all I have to say about that.” Simple yet powerful.
Jenny was afraid of love because of the abuse she experienced as a kid. She spent her life running from/trying to ignore that part of her life, afraid to make real connections. The hippie life, the city party life, all the stuff she did while away were distractions
I understand her childhood trauma as being the reason she was the cause of her fear. What ticked me off was when she told Forrest that he didn't know what love is. That was probably the meanest thing she could have said to him, basically called him stupid. I didn't like her after that.
When you think of Jenny as the feather that opens and closes the movie it changes how you think of the film. This isn't a story about Forrest but rather about Jenny told through the eyes of Forrest. Forrest kept the feather in the book so he could look at it, admire its beauty, and touch it from time to time, just like the passing moments that Jenny came in and out of his life. When the feather comes into the story so to does she and when the feather flies away, never to be seen or touched again the film ends. That's not because it's a logical spot to end because a biopic would see it through until Forrest dies, but because Jenny is gone.
When Jenny told Forrest he didn't know what love was, she was projecting she didn't know what love was but it's easier to place blame on others... When your damaged and you gave consequences of past actions nothing is your fault it's everyone else's.... When she realized it well ya know
I love Forest Gump. He is so pure and innocent for his own good. He is a good soul. I cried when Bubba died. I dislike Jenny always have always will, no one will ever convince me otherwise into liking her, that she was a good girl for forest, he deserved better. I understand she was messed up for a long time. but she friend zone the shit out of that poor boy.
What I love about your channel is that you guys take everything in, and remember scenes from the start that connect to later scenes, which shows you watch these movies with a real passion and not just for views, easily becoming my favourite reaction channel!
“Is he smart, or..?” Those few seconds alone earned him that Best Actor Oscar! I see people saying that all the time and it’s true. *BUT.* A similar moment for me was when they were in DC with the Black Panthers, and Jenny’s boyfriend hits her. When the zero in on his face and show him slow-motion going to confront him…. The fury you see in his eyes is almost palpable. THOSE couple of seconds alone earned his Oscar…. Plus the film editing Oscar.
Fun reaction! Def one of the greats! This movie is even more interesting when you view it through a historical lens, a narrative that is really a love letter to American culture and American exceptionalism. Forrest and Jenny are conduits used to move along the major cultural and social events America went through in the 20th century. It starts in the Jim Crow south moving through the civil rights movement, the war in Vietnam, hippie and counter culture, China opening to the west and through to the dawn of tech. Forrest and Jenny are also metaphors. Forrest is American values personified, with a pure heart and a tough work ethic he'll always triumph, the ideal "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" kind of guy. Jenny, on the other hand, is a metaphor for Americas rapidly changing society. Jenny is restless and unbound to tradition. She quickly moves from one counter culture fad to the other (hippies, the Black Panthers). Never stable and never wanting to settle. In the end Jenny dies of AIDS (according to the films screen writer). Jenny and Forrest are two sides of the same coin.
Oooooh rock fights. There was an old abandon factory where we lived…..it had a lot of windows. One day after a serious rock fight, my friends and I realized….we gotta take this factory. So we united, now we weren’t attacking each other, now we had a common goal. We were staring at possibly the best club house error. Not one piece of glass survived….we never did take the possition(due to local resistance). But we learned that day how to assault on a fixed position. Lololol
I don’t know if you noticed something; few if any do. When Dorothy picks up Forrest for school, she’s smoking a cigarette. Such was the way in the 50s/60s. When she picks up Little Forrest, she’s chewing gum. I’d bet it’s smoking-quitting nicotine gum. I think Zemeckis put it in there purposely. A nice touch.
This is my all time favorite movie and I love to see other people enjoy it as well. Good job y'all! If you haven't seen them yet, The Green Mile (also a Tom Hanks movie) and The Shawshank Redemption are a couple classics I'm sure you'd enjoy.
Some other amazing classics that will hit you right in the feels. "Armageddon" "Good Will Hunting" "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" "Titanic" "A League of Their Own"
I really think that you guys would love “Sleepless in Seattle”; and I love how other movies reference Forrest Gump in other movies like, “Tropic Thunder”.
Forest is the perfect example of why you should never judge a book by it's cover, or what you think you see at first glance. It's a brilliant movie, and a truly outstanding acting performance by Tom Hanks. Excellent writing too, to create such riveting and uplifting tragedy.
Forrest is the most wholesome character I’ve ever seen in a movie & it’s jsut wild to see two perspectives on how Forrest’s life was compared to Jenny & then jsut everything unfolding. It’s a good life message I think
Great reaction, I got the impression in the beginning that because of the hype you wanted to not like the movie. You became engrossed very quickly and this great piece of cinema won you over and lived up to the hype. I'll be watching for more.
6:44 Oh bro....You just unlocked a really old memory with that. We had a rival school *right next* to ours. I mean rival as in competitions and such, nothing like gang related or anything. The only thing seperating our schools was like a storage building for bikes. Yeah, we totally had rock fights during this time, throwing rocks at eachother over the roof of that building. Though as far as I recall, nobody ever got hit. Must have been like 8 or 9 years old at the time.
It's a story of two philosophy's, hers was runaway, his was do as your told... This is one of those timeless films that will be around for decades to come...
Great reaction-You two are a lovely couple yourselves! This movie is so loaded with historical references it blows my mind. Almost everything he is involved in is a part of history. Lovely, poignant movie. So much love and pain in it. So glad it lived up to the hype for you! Now you know! LOL
I really want to give you both props during the reaction you didn’t judge Jenny for a lot of the things she did fair or not. Or that did or didn’t make sense. She had her own scars and troubles to be sure but you just kept watching and being attentive without any prejudice. I’ve watched a lot of reactions to this movie and there is always a lot of strong opinions about Jenny’s character. Great reaction and I look forward to seeing you both react to more movies!
I'm a big fan of react channels and Forrest Gump is always one of my favorite ones to see others react to. I've seen a few different ones but you guys were so nice to watch. Definitely going to subscribe!
Great reaction! And on this 4th of July, a tip of the cap to Gary Sinise, who formed the Lt. Dan Band. He and his band performs at USO shows entertaining the troops, and raises money for disabled veterans. Well done sir!
Yes he has the Gary Sinise Foundation that helps out vets who can't afford certain things. My Dad was an Army veteran and a couple week ago his AC went out in his home. He lives in Alabama where the temperature can get into the upper 90s and the humidity is ridiculous. Well we applied for my Dad and the foundation is paying for a new HVAC system that is costing $6700.00!! My family will be forever greatful to Gary Sinise and his foundation.
You both have once again did great reactions to this movie keep it up. The actor who plays lieutenant Dan has a music band called lieutenant Dan's band doing free shows and all for our military. I always enjoy your reactions awesome job 👍👍👍
Tom Hanks won his second "best actor in a leading role" academy award for "Forest Gump" His first was for "Philadelphia" the year before. He is, along with Spenser Tracy, the only actor to have received back-to-back Oscars. You guys should watch "Philadelphia", the story of a gay man dying from aids that sues the law firm that fires him after finding out he is gay. Denzil Washington stars along with Hanks.
After watching my first review with you guys. I'm a fan. You comment not so much and make a good comment when you do. You don't pause a whole bunch like others. Thanks guys. 100 out of 10 is not far off. My favorite movie. Do my second the shawshank redemption
I have watched this movie and or parts...perhaps 50+ times. Whatever I watch always, 100% fail...my tears fall like rain. It is a beautiful (fictional) story that has such human elements...you feel every of moment of his life. I could blather on, but, you having watched it...you know what I mean. All the best. Cheers.
Hey General-Cromwell! Forrest Gump is such a special movie for many reasons, but I think it is VERY impressive how it balances many different genres of film! I feel like I am watching a Coming-Of-Age movie, Comedy movie, Drama movie, Romance movie, and War movie, all at 1 time! It is also very inspirational to me, and I quote it all the time as well! It's always fun watching movies with you two. I was laughing when you talked about all the hype before watching it. I knew how you were going to feel at the end. I saw this in the theater when it was first released, actually saw it with my mother, as I took her. At then end, we both said it was one of the best movies ever! It's so full of goodness and positivity, regardless of the bad things that happened. Thanks for sharing yourselves with us ... much love to both of you!
The first time I saw this movie, the first scene gave me major flashbacks. I have cerebral palsy , and in 1971, those braces were still a common treatment for scoliosis and muscle tightness in kids with CP. I wore mine for a year, and like Forrest, I got to a point where I was able to stop wearing them. I was bullied for the way I walked and my abnormal balance from elementary school through high school. That only stopped when I got to college.
My favorite movie. I think there's one thing people tend to overlook when it comes to Jenny. Imagine being in her situation. Being romantically attracted to someone who is more child than adult at times. It must present some major ethical dilemmas.
The only advice Jenny had to give to Forrest was to run away when things got bad. Because that's all she knew how to do because of the trauma she went through. And she spent her entire life doing it.
I think because of her childhood trauma, Jenny not only internally thought less of herself (the only man who likes me isn't smart enough to realize). It's also that she was afraid that after sleeping with Forrest, that she had become an abuser like her father-- taking advantage of someone unable to consent. It wasn't until the last months of her life that she realized that Forrest really could and did love her.
Forrest Gump is just a roller-coaster of emotions. The next movie that did this for me was Shawshank Redemption...which ironically came out the same year.
Hey SouthPaw718! Really enjoyed your guys reaction alot. There is a reason why this is in the top ten greatest movies of all time. Fun fact John Travolta was actually picked first to play Forrest Gump but he turned it down, so then they chose tom Hanks and it's considered by many to be one of the best performances ever.
First time viewer, and very impressed with you both, very, very good reaction, thank you, also, one of the best movies ever made, Tom Hanks was absolutely wonderful, but I think the entire cast was great, thanks again, keep it up please..😄😄
First time watching you two react to a movie. Loved it. It was so genuine and look forward to seeing more. Try “Meet Joe Black” as it will pull at you in a similar but different way. 🙂
What’s amazing about this movie is that Gary Sinise (Lieutenant Dan) was so moved by his role, that he started one of America’s most successful non-profit organizations to support disabled veterans. His role gave him a look into the reality that Vietnam veterans went through, especially the disabled ones, and it inspired him to start the Gary Sinise Foundation (2011). He still remains to be one of the most supportive celebrities to active duty military and veterans. His organization has so far raised over $282 million for disabled veterans and their families and they built 75 homes for veteran families.
We had rock wars!!! One time, two friends and myself were standing around and at some point it was decided that one friend (Ronald)was going to take off running, and the other(Derrick) was going to chuck a rock to see if he could hit a moving target at a distance. Derrick was actually the best pitcher in town.... not sure if Ronald was aware of that. So Ronald sprinted off and when he got about 30 yards away, Derrick threw the rock and I swear the rock made a big curve like a frisbee and right as Ronald looked back, the rock hit him right on the forehead and bounced off like a rubber ball. Ronald went down like a sack of potatoes. But he was fine... I think. We did all sorts of crazy things like that. Anyway.... Great reaction guys!!!!
This is just one of those magical films that is truly timeless! It’ll be just as great and gorgeous as the day it came out decades from now! A rollercoaster of emotions!
Forrest was the perfect solider since he followed directions so well. Everything that should have been a ‘negative’ actually turned into an opportunity for him. To help change the world. ❤
This movie is one of my top 10 favorites. Robert Zemekis is truly a genius in drawing every type of feeling from a story. PS - You guys are killing it with the reactions! I just found your channel last week with Star Wars, but am going to be binging a lot of your reactions today & tomorrow, so prepare for a bunch of notifications from me commenting. Lol. Keep up the great work! You're both doing awesome!
This is an absolutely fantastic movie, Tom Hanks deserved his Oscar for this, another movie Tom Hanks deserved an Oscar for was Philadelphia, another one you should watch. Have handkerchiefs beside you though, you'll need them. Another amazing thing about this movie, is the music, absolutely fantastic. It doesn't matter when you were born, you will know most of the songs in this movie.
i just love that the real life BUBBA GUMP SHRIMP corporation was named after the movie. Some clever and fast guy copyrighted the name right after he saw the movie and opened up the company. The production company of the movie didnt do this before release and hollywood "learned" from this afterwards, today it is common practice for movie productions to copyright all new brandnames, company titles etc etc to prevent this from happening again.
It certainly is a classic. Beautiful movie, incredible life lesson. And the reaction of you guys was great. I’ve seen that movie every time is on. Love it.
Yes! Growing up in the 70s, we did indeed have rock wars. It was usually spontaneous and done for fun, not malice or anger. More than one kid got stitches in their head.
Awesome reaction, a pleasure to watch. I'd love to see your reaction to THE GREEN MILE, which actually briefly reunites 2 of the actors from this movie. Completely different movie but beyond moving.
The entire movie question was is life a destiny or does it just happen. Forest was not intelligent but he wandered through life and always tried to do right. Was the feather have a destination or was it just floating in the air aimlessly
#3 on my all-time Top 100 movies, topped only by the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (#2) and the Original Star Wars Trilogy (#1). Great, great, great doesn't do this film enough justice. As awards go, it's important to remember they don't always go to the best films, however THIS one earned them. Six Oscar wins. Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Tom Hanks - winning his second consecutive), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects - also had SIX other nominations, which it did not win, including Best Supporting Actor for Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan, Best Cinematography, Best Score.
Hey Terdell Ferguson! Forrest Gump just does a fantastic job at balancing many genres of film (Drama, Comedy, Romance, "Coming-Of-Age", War Film, etc...) altogether in 1 movie! The performances are also VERY good, especially from Tom Hanks (and Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan is another personal favorite for me). Overall, I just find Forrest Gump to be very inspirational. Also, I often personally connect with the movie because my brother actually has Autism (And even though Forrest may not have had Autism, him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled). I also just wanted to mention that Last Year, I actually posted a video on my TH-cam channel that was almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). While watching this fantastic reaction, I coincidentally discovered a picture of my dad you can buy on ebay. He was also a Vietnam veteran, and he watched this movie a lot when I was a kid. He's been dead for 25 years. Spooky. Touching. Spooky. Thanks, you guys.
Happy 4th of July!! What's the best 4th of July story you got?
LOL.
Have y’all seen the green mile?
Jenny died of Hepatitis C.
When I was a kid, I lit a bottle rocket upside down by accident. The flame shot out and melted straight through the top of my shoe. Luckily I was okay, my foot wasn’t burned at all, but it scared the hell out of me lol.
A little American History
I think Jenny always loved Forrest, but because of the trauma she suffered from her dad's abuse, she never felt good enough for anyone, especally Forrest. So she spent her life always gravitating to abusive relationships and destructive behavior. It wasn't until little Forrest was born that she finally saw self-worth, but unfortunately a little too late. Her story is a tragic one.
She never ever respected him. Who cares about "love"? You sound like a chick.
It's amazing how many people miss the story behind Jenny and why she acted the way she did.
He is absolutely among the very best in history.
Yeah he was totally in the moment in that scene and just let the character take over. Forrest always knew he was different but rarely showed his self-awareness.
An absolute master class of communication with almost no words. Top tier.
If Tom “made it so” then it was one of the best improvisations ever ❤
His tearful monologue at Jenny's grave, is the single greatest moment in acting history.
One of the best facts I learned from this movie was that Gary Sinise (LT. Dan), after playing a disabled veteran, dedicated the literal REST OF HIS LIFE up to the present to help Disabled Vets with the Gary Sinise Foundation. In addition to doing numerous other benefits and such for veterans all around the country.
i believe his brother was a veteran as well.
And i believe Hanks helped get the memorial built for WW1 vets after Saving Private Ryan. They seem like really genuine people
Wait, is he still alive today?
iys crazy how a movie can impact a persons life !
Wow. I never thought of that. Well now we know why Bubba wanted him to join him in the shrimping boat business ‼️
Well you just made my respect and awe for this movie greater. Thank you sir!

Great comment!
Dan).
@Istanbul0687 we can def agree in terms of drama it was Jenny first. Good comment.

little mastermind detail (one of many)
forrest didnt even think about pulling the magazine out to prove it to the other guy who doubted his story, didnt care about proving a point or maybe he is so pure he didnt even understand that the other guy thought it was irony, he only pulled the magazine out to actually show the old lady how lt. dan looks like and nothing else...
this is so amazing to me :)
"Is he smart or is he...." breaks me everytime. Also when Lt. Dan comes to the wedding with an asian woman by his side showing that though the he were in the Vietnam war he have no preconceptions. This whole movie man... this whole movie.

Hints from the movie makers say it wasn’t AIDS. Rather they have intimated that it was hepatitis C.
Fun fact, Jenny never died from aids because if she did wouldn't you think Forrest would of contracted the virus after sleeping with her. How she really died (and this is coming from the director himself Robert Zemeckis) Jenny died from hepatitis c!
@@docbearmb
Yeah but it was clearly AIDs.
The author is just practicing a little AIDs stigma revision if you ask me
@@LN-Lifer So you know better than the Director. Impressive!
By the way, there are none of the symptoms of AIDS evident on Jenny.
"Now I don't remember where Tex was from..."
Most underrated and innocent joke in the movie
I think Jenny kept leaving because she didn't feel like she was worthy of Forrest's love...
spot on
She kept leaving cause she was a ho lol come on
That line, when Forrest finds out about Little Forrest and asks, "Is he smart, or is he..." and gestures toward himself.
I read somewhere that the author intended for it to be Hepatitis C in the book, but that HIV actually fit better in the movie.
So I think it's a good change, even if they don't mention it by name in the film itself, but I think that is the mystery disease everyone would of assumed Jenny had.
a result of drug use ...sharing needles..
The writer of the movie recently came out with, finally, what Jenny supposedly died of. Hepatitis C
@@Alte.Kameraden yeah it's the iconic life of someone who was basically in the middle of every big U.S. event or historical person. AIDS would be the only thing that fit both that description and the word "virus". So without saying it they pretty much told us what it was.
Jenny didn’t think she was worthy of marrying Forrest.
Yep. She said Forrest didn't know what love was, but in reality it was her who didn't really know
She still an L
No. She was deeply damaged but she wasn’t an L.
Notice that she didn't say, "I don't want to marry you." She said, "YOU don't want to marry ME."
I know Jenny did bad things but deep down in Jenny theirs just a broken little girl that misses her mother and wanted to escape from her abusive father and just wanted to be with her best friend forest.
There aren't many perfect movies. This is a perfect movie.
Mama was an early investor in AirBNB, she was a real smart lady 😜
You guys are cool, I’m 52. You give me hope.
VIH first case was confirmed in 1981 so I think it was hepatitis C
This dude went through the gates of hell and back, and through it all managed to maintain the innocence of himself. Beautifully written.
According to Tom Hanks, Forrest’s speech was:
“Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don’t go home at all. That’s a bad thing. That’s all I have to say about that.”
Simple yet powerful.
Really enjoyed this one y'all. Such an uplifting movie that really hits you in the feels.
*BUT.*
A similar moment for me was when they were in DC with the Black Panthers, and Jenny’s boyfriend hits her. When the zero in on his face and show him slow-motion going to confront him…. The fury you see in his eyes is almost palpable. THOSE couple of seconds alone earned his Oscar…. Plus the film editing Oscar.
Tom Hanks is such a good actor in every movie he's in.
I’ve always felt the great irony is Forrest is wiser than many to most of us may ever be♥️
Nice reaction; SUBSCRIBED!
Stay safe & love much💖
Oooooh rock fights.
It is nice watching people react to this awesome movie, my favorite movie of all time!
This is my all time favorite movie and I love to see other people enjoy it as well. Good job y'all! If you haven't seen them yet, The Green Mile (also a Tom Hanks movie) and The Shawshank Redemption are a couple classics I'm sure you'd enjoy.
I don't remember who played the part of elvis but it was Kurt Russel who actually did the voice.
Some other amazing classics that will hit you right in the feels.
"Armageddon" "Good Will Hunting"
"What's Eating Gilbert Grape" "Titanic"
"A League of Their Own"
Armageddon 😂😂
Forrest Gump is one of the best pop culture movies. 👍
Rock wars, bb gun fights, and bottle rocket fights, lol. How we all survived with both eyes, I'll never know.
You can eat at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Founded because of this movie. I've ate at a restaurant in Las Vegas.
I've seen this movie probably a thousand times and every time I cry so hard. This movie is one of THEE best movies of all time.
I love you guys. This is genuinely a good channel. I wish you nothing but the best.
After watching my first review with you guys. I'm a fan. You comment not so much and make a good comment when you do. You don't pause a whole bunch like others. Thanks guys. 100 out of 10 is not far off. My favorite movie. Do my second the shawshank redemption
It’s a perfect combo of great script, perfect casting, great actors and great director.
Just stumbled onto your channel with this movie, LOVED your reaction! On my way to see what other films/shows/whatever you have in your videos.
Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (And even though Forrest might not have Autism, I think him and my brother can relate in that they are both disabled).
If you have a few minutes sometime and are interested, here is a link to that video: th-cam.com/video/Or-sIiNANYg/w-d-xo.html
If you don't check it out, no worries at all! I won't be offended! But Thank You So Much in advance if you do see it! I hope you Have a great day today, General-Cromwell! Please Stay Safe and Stay Awesome! 🙂🙂🙂
The music in the movie is epic too... the sound design is amazing...
In the book, Forest turns into a boxer, chess player and even an astronaut!
Honestly, the performance of Tom Hanks in this movie is absolutely phenomenal. He never disappoint, truely one of the greatest actors ever.
IMO, one of the greatest movies of all time. The setups and payoffs, the execution, the acting, and plot...just a masterpiece of cinema.
Forrest Gump and John Coffey are the most well hearted characters of movies
Forrest Gump is just a roller-coaster of emotions. The next movie that did this for me was Shawshank Redemption...which ironically came out the same year.
Hey SouthPaw718!
I’m happy the TH-cam algorithms brought me to you both today. Thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. Subbed.
Really enjoyed your guys reaction alot. There is a reason why this is in the top ten greatest movies of all time. Fun fact John Travolta was actually picked first to play Forrest Gump but he turned it down, so then they chose tom Hanks and it's considered by many to be one of the best performances ever.
I Still Remember My Late Dad Taking Me To See This At The Movie Theater Back In The Summer of 94, Great Memories
First time viewer, and very impressed with you both, very, very good reaction, thank you, also, one of the best movies ever made, Tom Hanks was absolutely wonderful, but I think the entire cast was great, thanks again, keep it up please..😄😄
It seems like he is what a human would be like without an ego. Beautiful summary at the end. I've now seen it about 15 times and it's just as special.
Fun to watch you guys watch it for the first time.
You're a great couple! I'll be back.
It doesn't matter when you were born, you will know most of the songs in this movie.
subbed! thanks you two! I look forward to more of your reactions.
i just love that the real life BUBBA GUMP SHRIMP corporation was named after the movie.
Love it.
Almost 30 years later and it’s still one of the best movies I’ve ever seen!
I don't know how someone does not shed a tear to this movie. It has everything, and a tear is definitely one of them.
One of the best reactions to this movie of all youtubers, new subscriber here. Yall are great! I think Ill have to join yalls patreon as well.
that was a fun reaction. yall keep up the reactions!!
The first person to understand a return position at the university of Alabama, *round of applause*
