There are very few civilians who are as universally beloved by the U.S. military as Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan). He never served but the amount of work he has done to support veterans is so great that if I were a marine I would actually stand and salute to him. Sinise is a supporter of various veterans' organizations, both personally and through his band the Lt. Dan Band. He frequently performs on USO tours at military bases around the world, and volunteered for the National Vietnam Veterans Arts Museum now called the National Veterans Art Museum. Since 2003, Gary Sinise has visited 174 military bases and 21 military hospitals around the world. Sinise is also on the Advisory Council of Hope For The Warriors, a national nonprofit dedicated to provide a full cycle of nonmedical care to combat-wounded service members, their families, and families of the fallen from each military branch. Sinise was even awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Bush for the work he did supporting the U.S. military and humanitarian work supporting Iraqi children for his organization Operation Iraqi Children.
I hear ya. I turn 59 in a few days, and I cry more in this movie now than I did when I saw it when it was first released. Saw it in theatres back then, and it did make me cry a couple of times. But watching it all these years later I'm wiping my eyes and nose pretty much all the way through the last third of the damned movie! 😱🤣
There are so many fantastic and memorable scenes, but, for me, Forrest standing in front of Jenny's grave and telling her how much he misses her and how great Forrest Jr is doing is heartbreaking every time.

The Bubba/Gump restaurant chain became a thing after this movie came out, and there's actually a kind of funny story with that. Tom Hanks was doing an interview promoting a movie for Good Morning America I believe, and the interviewer asked if Tom had noticed that across the street there was a Bubba/Gump restaurant. Not only did Tom notice but he told the interviewer that the building had at one time been a bank, the bank he went to when he was a struggling actor in New York. He'd often get into arguments with the managers at the bank about cashing his unemployment checks. Hanks then said that if he could go back in time what he would do is go back to that bank and tell them that the building would one day be turned into a restaurant based on a movie character that he played and would win an Oscar for.
The voice pattern and accent *Tom Hanks* uses to portray Forrest, is actually his impression of his costar *Michael Connor Humphreys,* (who plays young Forrest), natural way of speaking. Tom believed it made more sense to copy his young costar, rather than trying to teach Humphreys to emulate himself. (There are many interviews You can look up, where Tom talks about this process, and heaps tons of praise upon the young man.) 😊
“You don’t know what love is.” Jenny legitimately believed that. She didn’t think her love for Forrest was real because she thought she was abusing him the same way her father abused her.
She had nothing to compare love to either - after what happened to her, what would she imagine love to be? Her mum loved her and died. Her dad was supposed to love her and protect her but grotesquely abused her. I'm sure her boyfriends claimed to love her as they beat her. Her brain was shaped by her abuse and loss. Running was the one thing she knew.
I think she was misconstrued what love was, to her based on her experiences love was just abuse and violence, she genuinely cared for Forrest and didn’t want that for either of them so said he didn’t know what love was and she ran away, when her genuine care for him WAS love. She just didn’t recognize that’s what love actually is.
@jamesfromacct I really disagree. I think that she genuinely thought he didn't know what love was because she thought he wasn't capable of understanding something that complex. I think she only realized that he did know after she went through countless bad relationships and came to the understanding that he actually knew better than she did. But even at that point, she didn't think that she was capable of keeping that love if she took a chance on marrying him. So she ran. I do think that her main motivations for marrying him in the end were to have someone to take care of her while she was sick and to care for their son after she died. I don't think she ever truly loved him the way a wife should love a husband. I think she cared about him deeply and went to him because she knew how much he loved her. But she didn't reciprocate to the same level as him. It's sad because he deserved better than Jenny.
@@Karamarika Not the case. Jenny goes from thinking Forrest doesn’t understand love to realizing that he does understand what love is, despite his handicap. It takes her the whole movie and her whole life to learn that.
I constantly forget how emotional this movie makes me. The message of the movie to me is, be a good person. Life wasn't always great for Forrest, but he stayed POSITIVE!!!!! The reason good things kept happening for him was because he was good to other people.

This might be the best movie ever made. The line where Forrest asks if little Forrest is smart is one of the most heart wrenching moments in any movie.
My dad passed away from cancer when I was 6, (I’m now 33), being taken care of his sister (who was a nurse at her house) and my mom as his choice of hospice and Forrest Gump was the last movie he ever watched. Every time I watch it I always think of him and get super emotional thinking of him and I loved your reaction to it! I was tearing up right along with y’all. Love you guys! Such a beautiful story. Incredible performances. Keep up the great reactions girls!
I used to think that Jenny´s disease was VIH/AIDS. But according to the book, it was Hepatitis-C, having more sense taking into account those messed years.
Except that makes little sense: A woman infected with AIDS may not infect a man, but she WILL infect her baby in utero... And it is blatant she had both cleaned up and got her life back to normal after leaving Forrest's home- So she was not engaging in unprotected risky partner sex after giving birth. Thus HepC from prior drug use is the only logical disease.

The funny thing is; Forest’s opinion of how easy the army basic training was is hilariously accurate. Anybody who has served in any branch knows all too making your bed, doing what you’re told, and answering everything with “Yes, Drill Sgt!” Is pretty much all you need to know to make it through 😂
@@Stogie2112 It most definitely is hard, but it goes deeper than that. The Armed Forces doesn't want unthinking robots, but some people go in thinking they are hot s*** and know everything. In addition to training, they break you down so they can build you up into the soldier they need you to be. One who can follow orders when needed and work as a team effectively to accomplish the mission. You are definitely allowed to question orders and your superiors, albeit with some risk, if something they ask you to do is immoral, unconstitutional, or is a danger for you and your allies, The little stuff, yeah you definitely have to obey, but it really isn't that different from having a civilian job when you aren't deployed. I do miss the structure, discipline and routine that came with being in the Army.
The army is definitely not easy. The difficulty is very high. But basic training is simple. It's probably one of the best examples of something that is simple but not easy.
1. The music royalties alone must have cost a small fortune🤑🤑🤑🤑 2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis. 3. As a retired sailor, boats/ships need a female name. 4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😈 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 12. Observation: Bubba's not a small dude. Forrest carries him with a bullet in his ass.😲 13. Sometimes, I guess there're just aren't enough rocks"🥺 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.🤩 15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

My favorite thing was about Lt. Dan finally making peace with God. So much so, that he married a Vietnamese woman after going through the Vietnam War. Just shows that he doesn't hold it against that country or race and really has no hate for them.

When I saw this in the theater, I walked out thinking it was the best movie I had ever seen. It's still near the top of my list. So many historical references, too many to list, but a previous movie by Woody Allen named "Zelig" pioneered the inclusion of a character in historical film clips. This movie took it to a new level. My favorite line is "Sometimes there just isn't enough rocks!"
Some people don't know this but it is because of this movie that Gary started the lieutenant Dan Foundation where he and his band raise money to support wounded veterans add other military-related organizations
One of the greatest movies of the 90s. I worked in a movie theater and we screened this for the employees before it opened to the public. I remember sitting so still by the time the end credits rolled, I almost couldn't believe how good a movie I had just seen.

Gary Sinese (Lt. Dan) does an incredible amount of public service for veterans in the US. Probably the most of any private citizen in our nations history.
My Mom seriously looked exactly like Sally Field in this when we were kids. It freaked us out. We were convinced she had a secret movie career. I sincerely cried when she died, every time. Still gets me sometimes...that's all I have to say about that...Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant, even when playing a local idiot. I love when LT. Dan comes with his "magic legs" made from the same material as the space shuttle to his wedding...the next year they were in Apollo 13th together! When Forrest asks..."Is he, is he smart?" That was meant to break your heart. One of the most clever, hilarious, heartfelt films ever.
Both Forrest and Lt. Dan would have received the Purple Heart medal for being wounded during combat. But, only Forrest received the Medal of Honor for his acts of valor - the courageous rescues of many members of his platoon.
59:00 when you realize he ran because he was always told to run when he was in trouble or in a big problem. After Jenny left he was left alone to grieve yet another loss. Bubba, his mother. And then Jenny. For the first time in his life, he had a problem he couldn't run from. 🥺🥺
A sweet story about a simple man with purity of spirit, and some brilliant cinematic choices - how could you not LOVE this movie?! A lot of people find it corny and love to clown on it, but I find it beautiful. It hits you differently after you've got some years under your belt.

Forrest Gump had strong competition that year at the Oscars, all of the movies were re-watchable (Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Quiz Show). The Oscar was well deserved, both for the picture and for Tom Hanks. Pulp Fiction was groundbreaking cinema, and Shawshank is probably more profound, but this was an instant classic because it is so universal. Stupendous soundtrack, all the performances were great, and the special effects with the historical figures were almost seamless. Great reaction, this movie always makes me want to to tear up every time I watch it. Awesome reaction, ladies! Some oddities: I found it weird to see Sally Field as Tom Hanks' mom, she was his love interest in the movie Soapdish (edit: it was Punchline!). Tom Hanks' brother did a lot of the running scenes. I first watched Robin Wright in The Princess Bride and this was a real surprise! Gary Sinise was only known to me in Of Mice and Men, and it was also interesting he and Hanks were also castmates in Apollo 13.
I can't even articulate how shocked I am to see this upload! Was not expecting it at all, or that anyone on the channel had yet to watch this wonderful movie, but what an awesome surprise! I will be watching this video very soon 😊
My favorite movie of all time. I just don't get how this film isn't regarded as being a masterpiece by more people. Easily one of the greatest films ever made.
My dad is really nice and considerate towards veterans despite never serving himself. I asked him why he is so nice to veterans. He told me "watch Forest Gump and will understand".
This is one of those movies that fall on the masterpiece list. Forrest is a perfect example of low I.Q. but high wisdom. He has a strong moral compass and his mind was never cluttered up with emotional problems or overthinking issues. Forrest was always able to focus on staying positive & what truly mattered. He taught this to those around him. The scene when Forrest meets his son and asks Jenny "Is he sm.. smart?" is one of those gut punch moments when we see that Forrest has real concern - hoping his son won't go through the mental struggles he went through in life. Jenny gave Forrest advice to run because that is how she learned to handle life. Jenny was always running from Forrest because she never felt she was worth it. She always hoped Forrest would move on to someone better. She was always in abusive relationships because she never felt she was worth having anything better.
Actually, for a lot of the "running across America" scenes, they just used Tom's brother Jim Hanks as a body double. It's not the only time Jim has covered a role for his brother. He also plays the voice of Woody in most Toy Story games and merchandise.

That movie is one of the most chilling dramas (in my opinion) of our time. The stuff he had to go through is insane..but the lesson is he can still see the beauty in the very simplest things and he lives full in every moment..a skill 99 percent of us dont have. Also my favorite detail: Notice that when Lt. Dan showed up at his wedding, his wife is vietnamese..I loved that
Tom Hanks came up with the accent he used as Forrest simply by speaking with the young actor who played Little Forrest and recreating that kid's natural accent. This is such a good movie, it's every bit deserving of the Oscars it won. Tom's peformance shows how incredible an actor he is, there's a reason he's one of the best. Kurt Russel actually did the voice for Elvis while another actor did the physical performance. Jenny always loved Forrest, even though it took her a long time to realize it. She also had her own demons to battle and trauma to overcome, but Forrest was the one good thing in her life and the one person she could count on to be there for her even though she treated him like sh*t and she didn't deserve him.

From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C in the book) Forrest Gump is the story of a generation, all the historical touchstones, the music, the traumas, and the philosophical questions we wrestled with. You are right, Forrest remembered and was shaped by everything that happened to him and even though there was both bad and good, he decided to focus on the good in the world. In contrast, Jenny was shaped by her childhood trauma, which took her decades to overcome. There are American History classes that use this movie to teach the era it covered. The film is filled with bits and pieces of history in almost every shot. It's fun to see what people notice and what is mostly forgotten these days.
Not Achara saying she's gonna emotionally support Steph, and ends up being the one crying the most! 😂 Seriously, though, I was sobbing right along with you!
This of course was an instant classic. Fun fact actually, Tom Hanks explained where he got his accent from as adult Forest. He explained that the little boy who portrayed Forest Gump spoke with a real accent, and Tom Hanks just copied his accent. Absolutely perfect movie
I’ve seen this movie a bunch of times, can never make it without crying multiple times. Even just watching your reactions for some reason makes it that much harder to not cry. Happy to see you enjoyed the movie. It is one of the best movies of all time in my opinion.

I am NOT prepared to cry on a Friday night to this movie! Another reason this movie hits hard is because I think of my mama. She died 5 months after we saw this on VHS in 1995.
Forrest Gump, fantastic movie, Tom Hanks deserved his Oscar playing the part of Forrest, and with Gary Sinise also starring allongside him, made it a very memorable film, and something to treasure. The music in this movie was phenomenal.
Forest got unconditional love from his mother which is what he showed Jenny she on the other got abused mistreated by her father so she couldn't love herself or Forest.
Tom Hanks brother helped out by doing many of the running scenes. Also two of Tom Hanks kids were on the bus on Forrest's first day of school when he is rejected until Jenny offers him a seat next to her.
I was just like Forrest in the beginning. I wore identical leg braces, and i was bullied up through junior high school. The first time i saw this movie in the theater, i had some powerful flashbacks. But I've always loved the film.
Jenny and Lt Dan believe they have a destiny (to die in the field, to become a singer) and spend their lives frustrated they can't reach it, while Forrest spends the whole movie wondering if he has one, and Forrest become the instigator for the destiny of everyone he meets -- including Elvis, Nixon, Bubba's family, John Lennon, and everyone else.
Jenny can be seen working as a waitress, seeing Forrest on TV at 59:57. Also, after Forrest says his goodbye at Jenny's grave and starts walking away, he turns around to see some birds fly away from their favorite tree, calling back to when Jenny prayed to make her a bird so she could fly far far away.
A lot of this movie was filmed right here in my hometown of Beaufort, SC. I remember watching the boat/storm scene being filmed when I was 12. Also, Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan) put together a band called The Lt. Dan Band to raise money for wounded soldiers. He comes to Beaufort just about every summer still and plays. The best part about Gary is after he's done the show he hangs out at the bars on the waterfront and chills with us locals. The guy is great.

Beautiful movie one of the greatest ofnall time. Im 39, i was 9 when this movie came out and my dad and me use to watch this almost 3 times a week. If he didn't watch i was the one tuned in every time. Especially when we had it on VHS (📼)😅😅😅. THE 90s were the most of the best times ever😉🙃😄
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button could be, I always felt like it was similar to Forrest Gump in some ways. Both are great films with outstanding performances. I hope to see Achara & Steph react to that movie one day.

Steph & Achara are definitely my favorite reaction duo, hands down!!! (Achara reminds me of an angel, so I found it funny that multiple times throughout the movie she called someone an angel. Takes one to know one. ) - “Something Just Bit Me!” -“…and that’s all I have to say about that “ -“I’m not a smart man, but I do know what love is.” But you have to picture Forrest walking onto the front porch and putting his hands on his lower back.
Teresa Denton plays Lt. Dan’s fiancée, although the actress is Korean, she is meant to be Vietnamese…. Adding an extra dimension to Lt. Dan being at peace from his time during the War.
The purest part is when Lieutenant Dan asked Forrest and Bubba if they were twins. The pause when they looked at each, almost if they both were wistfully thinking, before answering "No sir, we are of no relation". 😊

Combat vet here. I wasn't aware that gary sinise was that involved with veterans. I've always thought he was a great actor, now I like him even more!

Jenny legitimately believed that. She didn’t think her love for Forrest was real because she thought she was abusing him the same way her father abused her.
She had nothing to compare love to either - after what happened to her, what would she imagine love to be? Her mum loved her and died. Her dad was supposed to love her and protect her but grotesquely abused her. I'm sure her boyfriends claimed to love her as they beat her. Her brain was shaped by her abuse and loss. Running was the one thing she knew.
I think she was misconstrued what love was, to her based on her experiences love was just abuse and violence, she genuinely cared for Forrest and didn’t want that for either of them so said he didn’t know what love was and she ran away, when her genuine care for him WAS love. She just didn’t recognize that’s what love actually is.
back when this movie was made, a rainbow meant just that...a rainbow.
@jamesfromacct I really disagree. I think that she genuinely thought he didn't know what love was because she thought he wasn't capable of understanding something that complex. I think she only realized that he did know after she went through countless bad relationships and came to the understanding that he actually knew better than she did. But even at that point, she didn't think that she was capable of keeping that love if she took a chance on marrying him. So she ran.
I do think that her main motivations for marrying him in the end were to have someone to take care of her while she was sick and to care for their son after she died. I don't think she ever truly loved him the way a wife should love a husband. I think she cared about him deeply and went to him because she knew how much he loved her. But she didn't reciprocate to the same level as him. It's sad because he deserved better than Jenny.
@@Karamarika Not the case. Jenny goes from thinking Forrest doesn’t understand love to realizing that he does understand what love is, despite his handicap. It takes her the whole movie and her whole life to learn that.
I constantly forget how emotional this movie makes me. The message of the movie to me is, be a good person. Life wasn't always great for Forrest, but he stayed POSITIVE!!!!! The reason good things kept happening for him was because he was good to other people.

This might be the best movie ever made. The line where Forrest asks if little Forrest is smart is one of the most heart wrenching moments in any movie.

My dad passed away from cancer when I was 6, (I’m now 33), being taken care of his sister (who was a nurse at her house) and my mom as his choice of hospice and Forrest Gump was the last movie he ever watched. Every time I watch it I always think of him and get super emotional thinking of him and I loved your reaction to it! I was tearing up right along with y’all. Love you guys! Such a beautiful story. Incredible performances. Keep up the great reactions girls!
I used to think that Jenny´s disease was VIH/AIDS. But according to the book, it was Hepatitis-C, having more sense taking into account those messed years.
The virus in the books was Hep C but the screenwriter did confirm the movie insinuated the virus was HIV.
Except that makes little sense:
A woman infected with AIDS may not infect a man, but she WILL infect her baby in utero...
And it is blatant she had both cleaned up and got her life back to normal after leaving Forrest's home-
So she was not engaging in unprotected risky partner sex after giving birth.
Thus HepC from prior drug use is the only logical disease.
It had to be HIV. That was the disease which came on in the early 80's brought on by Jenny's lifestyle and had no clear cure.
@@sue01234567890 Because it was not revealed in the book "Forrest Gump". The author, Winston Groom, didn't reveal that the virus was Hep C until the sequel novel, "Gump & Co.". Which wasn't published until 1995, a year after the movie was released.

The funny thing is; Forest’s opinion of how easy the army basic training was is hilariously accurate. Anybody who has served in any branch knows all too making your bed, doing what you’re told, and answering everything with “Yes, Drill Sgt!” Is pretty much all you need to know to make it through 😂

@@Stogie2112 It most definitely is hard, but it goes deeper than that. The Armed Forces doesn't want unthinking robots, but some people go in thinking they are hot s*** and know everything. In addition to training, they break you down so they can build you up into the soldier they need you to be. One who can follow orders when needed and work as a team effectively to accomplish the mission. You are definitely allowed to question orders and your superiors, albeit with some risk, if something they ask you to do is immoral, unconstitutional, or is a danger for you and your allies, The little stuff, yeah you definitely have to obey, but it really isn't that different from having a civilian job when you aren't deployed. I do miss the structure, discipline and routine that came with being in the Army.

The army is definitely not easy. The difficulty is very high. But basic training is simple. It's probably one of the best examples of something that is simple but not easy.
Forest and bubba friendship is a really nice part of the film
1. The music royalties alone must have cost a small fortune🤑🤑🤑🤑

3. As a retired sailor, boats/ships need a female name.
4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that.
5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around.
6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date.

Jenny’s story is so heartbreaking. Forrest was always running towards his future - Jenny was always running away from her past. A survivor of child abuse. Brings me to tears every time.
Everyone overlooks the symbolism of Lt Dan. Forrest and Jenny spend the movie running, either away from their problems or toward what they hope is destiny. Lt Dan loses his legs and can't run, and he becomes the first character to come to terms with himself, when he finally thanks Forrest for saving his life.

My favorite thing was about Lt. Dan finally making peace with God. So much so, that he married a Vietnamese woman after going through the Vietnam War. Just shows that he doesn't hold it against that country or race and really has no hate for them.

When I saw this in the theater, I walked out thinking it was the best movie I had ever seen. It's still near the top of my list. So many historical references, too many to list, but a previous movie by Woody Allen named "Zelig" pioneered the inclusion of a character in historical film clips. This movie took it to a new level. My favorite line is "Sometimes there just isn't enough rocks!"

Some people don't know this but it is because of this movie that Gary started the lieutenant Dan Foundation where he and his band raise money to support wounded veterans add other military-related organizations
One of the greatest movies of the 90s. I worked in a movie theater and we screened this for the employees before it opened to the public. I remember sitting so still by the time the end credits rolled, I almost couldn't believe how good a movie I had just seen.

This was a movie you can see multiple times in the theater, and the impact and admiration grows only increases each time.

My Mom seriously looked exactly like Sally Field in this when we were kids. It freaked us out. We were convinced she had a secret movie career. I sincerely cried when she died, every time. Still gets me sometimes...that's all I have to say about that...Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant, even when playing a local idiot. I love when LT. Dan comes with his "magic legs" made from the same material as the space shuttle to his wedding...the next year they were in Apollo 13th together! When Forrest asks..."Is he, is he smart?" That was meant to break your heart. One of the most clever, hilarious, heartfelt films ever.

Forrest’s destiny was to be the feather floating freely in the wind…wherever it took him and in the process changed the destiny of everyone he met.
Both Forrest and Lt. Dan would have received the Purple Heart medal for being wounded during combat. But, only Forrest received the Medal of Honor for his acts of valor - the courageous rescues of many members of his platoon.
59:00 when you realize he ran because he was always told to run when he was in trouble or in a big problem. After Jenny left he was left alone to grieve yet another loss. Bubba, his mother. And then Jenny. For the first time in his life, he had a problem he couldn't run from. 🥺🥺
A sweet story about a simple man with purity of spirit, and some brilliant cinematic choices - how could you not LOVE this movie?!
A lot of people find it corny and love to clown on it, but I find it beautiful. It hits you differently after you've got some years under your belt.
Telling LT Dan to stand up for his friends right before he face plants out of his wheel chair was one of the funniest things ive ever heard.

Forrest Gump had strong competition that year at the Oscars, all of the movies were re-watchable (Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Quiz Show). The Oscar was well deserved, both for the picture and for Tom Hanks. Pulp Fiction was groundbreaking cinema, and Shawshank is probably more profound, but this was an instant classic because it is so universal. Stupendous soundtrack, all the performances were great, and the special effects with the historical figures were almost seamless. Great reaction, this movie always makes me want to to tear up every time I watch it. Awesome reaction, ladies!
Some oddities: I found it weird to see Sally Field as Tom Hanks' mom, she was his love interest in the movie Soapdish (edit: it was Punchline!). Tom Hanks' brother did a lot of the running scenes. I first watched Robin Wright in The Princess Bride and this was a real surprise! Gary Sinise was only known to me in Of Mice and Men, and it was also interesting he and Hanks were also castmates in Apollo 13.
I really enjoy watching Forrest Gump once in a year. It shows me once again what a great actor Tom Hanks is.

This is one of those movies that fall on the masterpiece list.
Forrest is a perfect example of low I.Q. but high wisdom. He has a strong moral compass and his mind was never cluttered up with emotional problems or overthinking issues. Forrest was always able to focus on staying positive & what truly mattered. He taught this to those around him.
The scene when Forrest meets his son and asks Jenny "Is he sm.. smart?" is one of those gut punch moments when we see that Forrest has real concern - hoping his son won't go through the mental struggles he went through in life.
Jenny gave Forrest advice to run because that is how she learned to handle life. Jenny was always running from Forrest because she never felt she was worth it. She always hoped Forrest would move on to someone better. She was always in abusive relationships because she never felt she was worth having anything better.
Actually, for a lot of the "running across America" scenes, they just used Tom's brother Jim Hanks as a body double. It's not the only time Jim has covered a role for his brother. He also plays the voice of Woody in most Toy Story games and merchandise.
Tom Hanks did not do all of the running. His 'stunt' double was his brother Jim Hanks - who did most of the running scenes.

1994 was a great year for movies. Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, and Forrest Gump all deserving of Oscar for best picture.
This is one of the few movies that can make even a grown man tear up.
That movie is one of the most chilling dramas (in my opinion) of our time. The stuff he had to go through is insane..but the lesson is he can still see the beauty in the very simplest things and he lives full in every moment..a skill 99 percent of us dont have. Also my favorite detail: Notice that when Lt. Dan showed up at his wedding, his wife is vietnamese..I loved that
Tom Hanks came up with the accent he used as Forrest simply by speaking with the young actor who played Little Forrest and recreating that kid's natural accent. This is such a good movie, it's every bit deserving of the Oscars it won. Tom's peformance shows how incredible an actor he is, there's a reason he's one of the best. Kurt Russel actually did the voice for Elvis while another actor did the physical performance.
Jenny always loved Forrest, even though it took her a long time to realize it. She also had her own demons to battle and trauma to overcome, but Forrest was the one good thing in her life and the one person she could count on to be there for her even though she treated him like sh*t and she didn't deserve him.
Fun fact: all the running scenes were done by Tom Hanks brother. You guys always make my day.
Sally Field shines as mama Gump. Robin Wright gives a heartbreaking performance as Jenny. This is still a wonderful movie and I will always love it.

From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C in the book) Forrest Gump is the story of a generation, all the historical touchstones, the music, the traumas, and the philosophical questions we wrestled with. You are right, Forrest remembered and was shaped by everything that happened to him and even though there was both bad and good, he decided to focus on the good in the world. In contrast, Jenny was shaped by her childhood trauma, which took her decades to overcome. There are American History classes that use this movie to teach the era it covered. The film is filled with bits and pieces of history in almost every shot. It's fun to see what people notice and what is mostly forgotten these days.
Not Achara saying she's gonna emotionally support Steph, and ends up being the one crying the most! 😂 Seriously, though, I was sobbing right along with you!

This of course was an instant classic. Fun fact actually, Tom Hanks explained where he got his accent from as adult Forest. He explained that the little boy who portrayed Forest Gump spoke with a real accent, and Tom Hanks just copied his accent. Absolutely perfect movie
I’ve seen this movie a bunch of times, can never make it without crying multiple times. Even just watching your reactions for some reason makes it that much harder to not cry. Happy to see you enjoyed the movie. It is one of the best movies of all time in my opinion.

I am NOT prepared to cry on a Friday night to this movie! Another reason this movie hits hard is because I think of my mama. She died 5 months after we saw this on VHS in 1995.
Forrest Gump, fantastic movie, Tom Hanks deserved his Oscar playing the part of Forrest, and with Gary Sinise also starring allongside him, made it a very memorable film, and something to treasure. The music in this movie was phenomenal.
Many manly tears were shed watching this movie.

Tom Hanks brother helped out by doing many of the running scenes. Also two of Tom Hanks kids were on the bus on Forrest's first day of school when he is rejected until Jenny offers him a seat next to her.
Jenny never stopped loving Forrest. She felt tainted from her past, and didn't want to hold Forrest back.

I was just like Forrest in the beginning. I wore identical leg braces, and i was bullied up through junior high school. The first time i saw this movie in the theater, i had some powerful flashbacks. But I've always loved the film.

Jenny and Lt Dan believe they have a destiny (to die in the field, to become a singer) and spend their lives frustrated they can't reach it, while Forrest spends the whole movie wondering if he has one, and Forrest become the instigator for the destiny of everyone he meets -- including Elvis, Nixon, Bubba's family, John Lennon, and everyone else.

Jenny can be seen working as a waitress, seeing Forrest on TV at 59:57. Also, after Forrest says his goodbye at Jenny's grave and starts walking away, he turns around to see some birds fly away from their favorite tree, calling back to when Jenny prayed to make her a bird so she could fly far far away.
A lot of this movie was filmed right here in my hometown of Beaufort, SC. I remember watching the boat/storm scene being filmed when I was 12. Also, Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan) put together a band called The Lt. Dan Band to raise money for wounded soldiers. He comes to Beaufort just about every summer still and plays. The best part about Gary is after he's done the show he hangs out at the bars on the waterfront and chills with us locals. The guy is great.

Beautiful movie one of the greatest ofnall time. Im 39, i was 9 when this movie came out and my dad and me use to watch this almost 3 times a week. If he didn't watch i was the one tuned in every time. Especially when we had it on VHS (📼)😅😅😅. THE 90s were the most of the best times ever😉🙃😄
I don't think I can name any movie that is equally uplifting and tragic as this one.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button could be, I always felt like it was similar to Forrest Gump in some ways. Both are great films with outstanding performances. I hope to see Achara & Steph react to that movie one day.
I saw this in the theater when I was 14 and have watched it so many times since, I’m still here crying. Such a great film.

Teresa Denton plays Lt. Dan’s fiancée, although the actress is Korean, she is meant to be Vietnamese…. Adding an extra dimension to Lt. Dan being at peace from his time during the War.

The purest part is when Lieutenant Dan asked Forrest and Bubba if they were twins. The pause when they looked at each, almost if they both were wistfully thinking, before answering "No sir, we are of no relation". 😊
This film never fails to make me ugly cry lol. Such a great film. One of those that will be seen by many for generations to come.
