Thank You! You are the only video showing cutting a rounded edge with that kind of cutter. Everywhere else says you have to get a special kind. I want to cut a complete circle and I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks this was great.
I'm making a glass lid for my aquarium. I tried using different types of plexiglass, but it kept curling up around the corners. So now I'm going to try using glass. I need to cut out a notch for the water filter. And I was wondering how the heck I'm going to do that. This video helped immensely. Thank you.
Any coarse sand paper should work. I'd stay away from the fine grit stuff because the glass could easily cut through it and then you end up needing stiches lol
This is a nice simple video of how to cut glass. I had a go on a lid last year but it cracked. I hesitated after that because it costs to replace. I’ve just switched my internal filter for an external one and now the lid doesn’t fit since I installed the tubes. I want to cut out a 90 degree angle on the right rear side. I rang round a few local glass cutting services and most inform it’s a risk. Not sure how to go about this. If I get it wrong I lose the lid that fits the tank. Any suggestions? Currently I’m just resting the lid on top of the tank with it overhanging.
Hoe large is the tubing? If it’s 1” or less in diameter, you can just get a diamond coated hole saw and drill a hole that will fit nicely! Lots of vids on youtube on how to drill a hole through glass.
@@ThePlantedTankTV Yea tempered glass just shatters from what I have read . Im just looking for something thicker to make a lid for an aquarium but i feel picture frame glass may be too thin.
@@ThePlantedTankTV I got that part, but is there a specific name or brand because if I put that in on Amazon that specific one you’re using doesn’t come up
@@ThePlantedTankTV the problem I have is a filter sits on top of the tank on the side and I can’t put a glass cover on it, I need that in order to put the lights for the live plants… so I’m thinking to cut a little glass to make room for the filter. Otherwise no cover at all. What do you suggest? I can’t find any glass covers that have a little space for a top filter😩
Thanks for demonstrating not straight lines! I was worried more ”complicated” cuts wouldn’t be possible
Ripping paper was such an accurate description. Lol. Thank you.
😂
I've done so much research seen so many videos. This simple video answered all my questions in just a couple minutes!!!
Awesome thank you so much! ✌🙂

🙏🙏
Oh perfect need to make a DIY lid and this answered all of my questions. My husband will be making one this weekend.
Yes it will!
🙂🙏
Is glass or acrylic better? He's worried that the glass will be too fragile to get perfect and wants to go with acrylic; do you have any advice?
@@laurynmhruby4443I know this is super late but poly carbonate is the best material for a lid. Lol
@@ThePlantedTankTV will this work for a salt aquarium too I’m worried the reef light won’t go through
Wow this was the simplest video! Thanks so much
🙏🙂
Awesome video man. Crazy how cheap the tool is for this

Where can you buy that tool? Is there a specific one that you recommend or does it not matter?
Any cheap glass cutter from home depot or walmart will do. 🙏🙂
Ar15 tastefully in the background at the ready 😉
Always ready to protec!
✌️😅
Love how your betta was photo bombing in the glass reflection :-)
Hi there. Can you recommend what you would use to sand the edge then? Just any sand paper? Any specific grits to use?
Any coarse sand paper should work. I'd stay away from the fine grit stuff because the glass could easily cut through it and then you end up needing stiches lol
@@ThePlantedTankTV yikes! Will do. Thank you.
What type of sand paper do you use to sand the cuts?
What kind of sand paper. I need to trim off some of a glass tank lid I bought and make a spot for the flitter
Some 400-800 should work great.
Awesome man! Thanks for sharing this. Where did you get the cutter from?
aquatichris I got mine from Home Depot! It was like 4$ and it is right next to the glass you choose from in the window section! 😍🤜🤛
We dont have yard sticks in Europe. Can I use a lawn stick instead?
Anything straight
I really enjoyed that video
Thanks man!
Love diy! Great demo

How thick was that glass? Is it as thick as the aquarium glass it will go on top of, or was it thinner like picture frame glass?
Picture frame glass. But you can use it on glass up to 3/8 or 1/4 inch I think. Doesn't work on tempered glass. I tried it. lol

poor glass lol
great video man!

Awesome! now my filter can fit on my versa top
Can you use that m16 for tapping
Not going to lie I never noticed my AR was in the background 😂😂
How about with cutting about a 6” wide circle in the glass? That’s what I need to do badly
It’ll work with that too just gotta be little more carfle
What type of oil you use?
You can use any oil really. 🙏
