Yep it is kinda expensive based on what i know about this material.... wouldnt you need some form of weight on the top so as to prevent large fish from bumping and jumping out. Would you also need to punch a few holes in it so as to allow air to pass through hitting the surface of aquarium water?
@@JadrenAquatics yeah right. Thanks for that. I ended up doing what another commenter said and used gorilla tape. A lot faster, and if it doesn’t work keeping out the gunk, I will try another method. Thanks for the idea, cheap and looks great!
I've been selling these lids in the shrimp hobby for quite some time now. Use them on all my lids. Sold many to theshrimpfarm.com as well as other large breeders. Never had issues with mold or anything.
Jadren Aquatics for all the ones I've done, I leave a single piece and just notch out for air lines which is left for the customer to do. It's a great product.
What Home Depot did u buy from? My local stores only carry the 4’x8’ panels. I’m hoping I can order from the store you bought at, I don’t need to pay $90 for all that material. Thanks in advance
Instead of using masking tape as a hinge, cannot you have one large piece, cut only one layer where you want it to bend and so the other layer would hold the two sides together but would be able flexible? I might do something like this, but I will have to adapt it to a hob filter.
I actually use 2" packing tape, but yes I have not thought about that but I bet that would work pretty well. Might finally break after it bent enough times. Thanks!
I need a lid that will hold the weight of my 4cats who think the aquarium is for them. Would this work? What about a sheet of cast acrylic? 1/4" or 1/2"?
Home Depot is for contractors and build to sell Quality material. Lowe’s is for home builder and carry fancier Products. I usually go to Home Depot I just get what I need and walk out as fast as I can.
Traffic wise, Lowe's is the choice where I live. But if you are buying any kind of molding, HD sells it by the foot, whereas Lowe's makes you buy a whole long length of the stuff. Overall, HD has 40% more sales than Lowe's.

They can withstand a ton of heat
Great video and very helpful but title is misleading, telling me I can make a lid for $5 and the material I need is $36. Not everyone wants to make multiple lids, I just need one. But I understand the quality is worth it, just misleading in the title.
use a thin bead of sillycone for hinge.lol i know i spelled wrong but i think it is funner this way lol
That's a good idea!
What about oxygen exchange if it fits snug
Can you cut it with a box cutter? Or will they cut it in half for you?
lololi feel like a Jamaican, no Lowes or Home Depot to go to. Feeling Sad lolol, very interesting and funny question. Yep it is kinda expensive based on what i know about this material.... wouldnt you need some form of weight on the top so as to prevent large fish from bumping and jumping out. Would you also need to punch a few holes in it so as to allow air to pass through hitting the surface of aquarium water?
Acrylic hinges and acrylic glue from Ebay makes these lids WIN. Pennies. no tape.
Great feedback!
So true
Could you just use aquarium silicone on the edges so gunk doesn’t go inside?
Yes if you were only doing a couple a bunch would take forever though
@@JadrenAquatics yeah right. Thanks for that. I ended up doing what another commenter said and used gorilla tape. A lot faster, and if it doesn’t work keeping out the gunk, I will try another method. Thanks for the idea, cheap and looks great!
I've been selling these lids in the shrimp hobby for quite some time now. Use them on all my lids. Sold many to theshrimpfarm.com as well as other large breeders. Never had issues with mold or anything.
I just get the algae build up in the hinges thanks
Jadren Aquatics for all the ones I've done, I leave a single piece and just notch out for air lines which is left for the customer to do. It's a great product.
Well this effect my lights for my Corals?
cant find anything similar at home depot, even online - they no longer carry it?
then how do you put the light?
Same as if it was a glass top just mounted on top
What Home Depot did u buy from? My local stores only carry the 4’x8’ panels. I’m hoping I can order from the store you bought at, I don’t need to pay $90 for all that material. Thanks in advance
I get mine from the Mansfield Texas store. I've never seen a 4x8 sheet
What about Bow Fronts?
Maybe but you would have to be able to cut half circles
Instead of using masking tape as a hinge, cannot you have one large piece, cut only one layer where you want it to bend and so the other layer would hold the two sides together but would be able flexible? I might do something like this, but I will have to adapt it to a hob filter.
I actually use 2" packing tape, but yes I have not thought about that but I bet that would work pretty well. Might finally break after it bent enough times. Thanks!
you can supper clue hinges on them look on another video that shows how one guy done his.
Great idea
first of all, points for Boba Fett and the stormtrooper... >D
I really do need an aquariium lid tho ... love this
Lol you should see my game room then!
I agree with you about Home Depot!! Great tip. I’ve been using the other clear panels for covers, I’ll use your suggestion the next time.
I need a lid that will hold the weight of my 4cats who think the aquarium is for them. Would this work? What about a sheet of cast acrylic? 1/4" or 1/2"?
Always wondered what type of plastic you guys used for lids. I bought the glass picture frames from the 99 used them as lids.
Or Can you use a hand held tile cutter?
Now I just need a table saw 😅
Lol Yea you gotta have a descent saw
Lol yall fnny, good vid man
Home Depot is for contractors and build to sell Quality material.
Overall, HD has 40% more sales than Lowe's.
love the LFC hat man YNWA
Thanks !
