    What do you think, did that improve the fish room or what? Here is the link to Steve Poland Cichlids’ video that I learned from th-cam.com/video/whwqdsF4GiI/w-d-xo.html

      Cool idea!! I should make these, I'd be devastated if one of my Bettas jumped!! I do have a TON of floating plants but I guess it could still happen? I'm confused as to how you get the handles to stay on the glass?

    Thank you for posting your video. I was looking for an inexpensive way to make a nice looking lid. I used the same plastic material (bought at Home Depot) you did and I spray painted it with flat black acrylic paint. Then to prevent the paint from being scratched off, I applied black electrical tape to the top of the plastic piece where the glass slides back and forth. Works great, easy to do, and inexpensive. $2.50 for plastic, $25 for the 2 pieces of glass cut at a local glass/window making shop.
    Instead of attaching the handle to the glass, I used the same plastic material, spray painted it flat black, and then cut 2 pieces of plastic. One to fit the front of one piece of glass, and the other piece to fit the back of the other piece of glass. This way the front glass can slide backwards, and the back piece can slide forwards. I glued the plastic to the glass using Gorilla super glue. Now easy to reach inside the front and back of the tank. You can use a hack saw, or fine tooth saw to cut the plastic... or a sharp utility knife - box cutter. Use sand paper to smooth off cut edges.
    Looks nice and professional. Any color paint can be used to match your aquarium trim.

    Thank you so much for sharing this video with us. That design is awesome! I have no doubt that this will catch on with many fishkeepers who had run into the same issue you did. The videos you made for the big fish event in New Jersey looks great. Many of my friends who went raved as to how good it was. Some said the Bettas displayed there were AMAZING! I also heard that Joey Mullen (The King Of DIY) was there. I hope you had had the pleasure of meeting him as he's an inspiration to the fish hobby and a great guy, too.

    You’ve inspired me to consider getting a Betta for my office! I had 2 Bettas when I was in high school, but as the two Bettas within 4 years would suggest, it was a shameful time, full of lots of misinformation and likely some suffering fish. 😥 I feel like I need to make amends with a properly sized tank, real plants, and a reputable breeder this time. Thanks for your videos! I absolutely love them! ❤️

    I made these lids after seeing your video. The glass lids look so cool now that I can see all my fish from above. Anyone who wants to try it yourself I’d recommend going to Lowes for the custom glass. If you buy a panel of glass from them they have a free cutting service. I bought a 16X20 for only like $8. (Just make sure you account for the molding in the cause I didn’t and had to go back to the store and ask them to cut the glass just a bit smaller so it would fit on the tank). Also I found you can just use a permanent black marker for the molding if you don’t wanna use spray paint on the molding.

    • @SimplyBetta
      @SimplyBetta  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi! So I didn't include my measurements because I was scared that people would use mine and then have it not fit well and be mad at me, yikes! So I made my side mouldings first and popped them into place on my rims. I measured with a tape measure and appropriate width for my 2 pieces that wouldn't be too tight or too loose. Then for the length I made sure that the 2 pieces would overlap a little when the lid was fully closed
