Its genuinely heartwarming to see Danny Devito remember his early days of acting and getting misty eyed reminiscing about growing up in an Italian home.
For all his humor, the man is a GIANT (obviously figuratively), just a brilliant actor. I'll never forget the first time I saw him in a serious role, in Hoffa. You'll never think of him the same after that. Just an astonishing actor.
@@Kanjo_Bazooie Yes, and although that may not have been his directorial debut, I think it was Hoffa that established him as a really great director in addition to being a really great actor. That was really a marvelous film, with Jack Nicholson also giving one of his best performances. I recall just the opening scene - left a lasting impression. Now I want to go and watch it again. The guy is so much more than a great comedic actor. I guess he'd fall into that "national treasure" category. Oh - I see the next commenter below said exactly that. I'll have to go and give that comment a thumbs up.
Italian guy 101 - absolutely includes dunking the bread in the sauce/gravy. And no matter where mom is in the house, she can hear the lid come off of the sauce pot, and you'll hear "get out of the sauce!" get screamed to you from nowhere.
Danny DeVito is so underrated. From Cuckoo's Nest to Taxi to Wiseguys to Twins to War of the Roses to Get Shorty to LA Confidential to even a brief cameo in Goldmember or Friends, he's always a welcome presence. I don't even like Batman Returns honestly but he's by far the best thing in it. He just elevates material.
Remember seeing Danny DeVito and Brook Adam's I Car Wash. IDMB says their scenes were deleted but I clearly remember them running the food stand in the movie when I saw it in 76.
In 1966, Danny graduated from New York's American Academy of Dramatic Arts. His graduating class included Jaclyn Smith ("Charlie's Angels") and Kathryn Leigh Scott ("Dark Shadows").
My mom would get tired of us dipping and would ladle out some in a bowl and give us a piece of bread and sit us at the table. Thanks for bringing back that memory!
I've never been to a celebrity's funeral but I would honestly like to pay my respects, whenever Mr. DeVito leaves our mortal plane. I took French, and not Italian, but I was delighted that "Cul de Pain" made sense. Hooray for cognates!
It's funny how similar Italian and Spanish are. In Spanish it'd be something like "coolo de pan". Danny DeVito was such a big part of my childhood. Idk if I discovered him first in Twins or Romancing the Stone but I could watch him do his taxes and be entertained.
Larry David just recently said that Constanza was based on a friend of Jerry’s with the last name of costanza..the real life costanza sued Larry David for that

A😊
Danny is a national treasure.
You're so goddamn true about this one
@@jerryjanik480 BED BUGS BED BUGS BED BUGS!!!
No. He’s an actor. You’re just obsequious
You're thinking of N. Cage.
I was about to write the very same....cheers
Danny DeVito is an everyman. He would be so much fun to hang out with, playing Nightcrawlers and planning the takeover of Gotham.
HIs work as the penguin was decades ahead of its time, and his stories about growing up were hilarious, hes such an amazing entertainer.
him as Penguin is maybe my favorite performance ever. "You're just jealous because I'm a genuine freak and you have to wear a mask!"
OMG it's Dr. Mantis Toboggan!
So anyway I started *trampolining*
Hahahaha. That’s funny.
LMAO
But I don't jump so good neither
😂😂 I want the Danny DeVito bod too, trampolines for life!!
Whenever I get miserable about the state of my life and the world at large it is therapeutic to know that Danny DeVito is also a part of this world.
For all his humor, the man is a GIANT (obviously figuratively), just a brilliant actor. I'll never forget the first time I saw him in a serious role, in Hoffa. You'll never think of him the same after that. Just an astonishing actor.
He’s great. He directed that movie too.

Don't forget "L.A. Confidential."
A cinematic opera which pits a bird that cannot fly against a mammal which can. Interesting framework for the movie.
Oh my god!!! Danny Devito I love your work!!!
Italian guy 101 - absolutely includes dunking the bread in the sauce/gravy. And no matter where mom is in the house, she can hear the lid come off of the sauce pot, and you'll hear "get out of the sauce!" get screamed to you from nowhere.
💯
He's a good guy...
look at the joy in his face as he is remembering being in the kitchen with his mother

I always wondered how Danny Devito stayed in such great shape! LOL
Danny has to be the most down to earth likeable actor around...
He seems so warm and friendly. Doesn't seem to be even a hint of pretension in him. And I'd love to try his cooking!
I love how Danny (a real Italian) calls it sauce and not gravy.
Sauce is mariners (tomato sauce), gravy is marinara cooked with meat. That's the distinction.
@@Mr.56Goldtop I thought sauce cooked with meat was call bolagnase. (not sure if I spelled that right) just sayin'.
@@kawasakiwhiptwo5821 A Bolognese is a different dish. Look up Sunday gravy, that will explain it. Every Italian will know this.
LOVE hearing about how a trampoline is good for you from the dude! That’s priceless!
I Love Danny’s Penguin Voice in The First True or False!
Always liked DeVito. Miss the 80s and 90s.
Hearing him shout “Reiger” again made me smile. Its been a LONG time since he was “Louie” from “Taxi”.
I met Danny once and he was the best ever
aw, love the nod to Schiavelli
Was hoping between mentions of Jack Nicholson and Michael Douglas they'd get to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
"Hit me. Hit me." Love that scene from One Flew
Remember seeing Danny DeVito and Brook Adam's I Car Wash. IDMB says their scenes were deleted but I clearly remember them running the food stand in the movie when I saw it in 76.
Possible. Sometimes deleted scenes are added back to pad runtime or replace something removed for TV or other.
I really like DD. Seems like a really cool and funny guy.
Hes a really good lawyer.
His DEMOCRACY NOW cap says it all about the man. What a legend.
In 1966, Danny graduated from New York's American Academy of Dramatic Arts. His graduating class included Jaclyn Smith ("Charlie's Angels") and Kathryn Leigh Scott ("Dark Shadows").
His voice and attitude when talking about taking the bread ends to the sauce lol
Proudly sporting his Democracy Now cap for the interview. How can you not love this guy?
That voice... It's just like an Uncle I haven't seen in 20 years.
That man right there is an international treasure.
My mom would get tired of us dipping and would ladle out some in a bowl and give us a piece of bread and sit us at the table. Thanks for bringing back that memory!
Danny always seems drunk. But no, he's just happy as hell living his best life.
Sat in the same row as him for game one of the 02 World Series in Anaheim. He signed my hat.
Cool dude.
He reminds me of my uncle. Same age/era. Love to tell stories. So funny.
So I started blasting
Vincent Schiavelli, or as those of us who grew up in the 80s know him, science teacher Mr. Vargas.
So I started blastin.
This was tremendous! Thank you!
Oh man Danny is fun as hell.
I've never been to a celebrity's funeral but I would honestly like to pay my respects, whenever Mr. DeVito leaves our mortal plane. I took French, and not Italian, but I was delighted that "Cul de Pain" made sense. Hooray for cognates!
Short balding Italian guys are always good cooks. I think it’s a universal rule.
I gotta get me a trampoline so I can be in great shape like DeVito

Not having DeVito as Boss Hogg in an R-rated Dukes of Hazzard movie is one of the great misses in comedy movie history.
Who doesn't love this guy
Lol DD is great!! 🙌🏾 living legend
Hell yeah, loving the Democracy Now hat as well
That penguin voice made my day. I loved batman returns
Love his short stories
De Vito is world class, awesome guy.
Wow, this guy is a one man show. He kept it coming.
yep, hide them wooden spoons ....... PTSD
I love Danny. I absolutley love him!
What a legend... a giant in the business...
I don’t mind signing autographs and taking selfies…but 3,000 of them I mind lol
Absolutely loved the story at the end with the bread and sauce, I did the same thing when my mother cooked
never ask the italian guy "who cooked?"
Larry David just recently said that Constanza was based on a friend of Jerry’s with the last name of costanza..the real life costanza sued Larry David for that
Yes a bird that cannot fly against a non bird that flys.
That’s really interesting to think about.
So so good.
It's SO WEIRD to Think He's telling a Mother Story that Happen in Asbury Park... My Home Town as Well!!!
Now that I hear him compare SEINFELD to TAXI, I can't see it any other way...wow!
I love him and ria omg there my fav couple next to kurt and goldie
Gotta pay the troll toll if you want to get into that boy’s soul
i want to give him a hug
Dany is a treasure
A true icon.
What a legend!
Everybody and the camera people having a great time at work today
Yes
taxi lol
Reminded me of the movie "Fatso" with Dom Deloise. Great movie about the sauce. LOL
It is hard, really hard, to imagine anyone actor, now or in the future, do the Penguin as well as Danny 🥰🇸🇪
Love Danny DeVito but hate Rich Eisen.
Sorry. I'm late to this, but DeVito is the fucking man.
Frank's fluids!
When he starts using actor jargon I get flashbacks of Get Shorty.
Hilarious!!!!!
Pls get him to do another penguin in batman for one last time!!!!!
Who doesn't love Devito?
I've been saying for a long time that Kramer was inspired by reverend Jim.
Is he rocking a Democracy Now hat?
Hell yeah.
In Spanish...el culo del pan. 🤣🤣🤣
I'd love to hear his stories from COOKOO'S NEST.
Does Danny still eat his lasagna like that? Boy, I sure do.
You do not get anymore A List than Danny Devito.
I’m siciliano and we call the end of the bread “the puza”.
Finnish American and we call it the gundaba
No wonder he killed it as the penguin
If they made a golden girls in men. Say golden guys. Danny needs to be in it.
Danny is legend. And creepy scary as Penguin.
Culepan 👌☠️🤣
Louie DePalma would have been a perfect replacement for Michael Scott
@05:37 Which Michael Douglas?
MIchael Keaton
He gives zero f*cks.
I love u dan 😍
Someone should probably tell Danny that Vincent Schiavellii died in 2005.
It must be hell for Danny Devito to look in the mirror every morning.
Jerry Seinfeld, I suppose it could be argued, was like a dumber, far less compassionate, FAR less likeable Alex Rieger.
❤🐧
