    1.) Seats maybe be uncomfortable on long trips
    2.) touchscreen radio might act up sometimes,
    3.) Ruff drive off road,
    4.) Electric Steering feels lightweight
    5.) Not enough space in backseat for tall person
    This could have easily been a 4 minute video , thanks hope i saved you 8 minutes

    I'm 6'3" 200lbs and this is one of the MOST comfortable cars for long trips. I make a 7-9 hour trek every couple of weeks and NEVER have back, neck, or hip issues. BUT, EVERYONE is different. If you are on the heavier side, then MAYBE this car could give you issues. I have REALLY good posture and this car actually supports good posture, unlike most I have driven.
    Again, EVERYONE is different. Some seats that others rave about, I just can't stand. I do appreciate the heads up/warning on that. I wish more people would pay attention to the seat. It's one of the more important aspects of a car and definitely at the tops for overall comfort.
    To give you an idea, I rented over 40 cars in about 6 months for work. I was SUB'd this one because they ran out of what I wanted. I was so impressed, I rented it for pleasure for a long trip. Then in about a month, I bought one.

    I've been driving my 2017 RAV4 Limited Hybrid about 6 weeks. Got a great deal as the local dealership was motivated to move cars off the lot. My previous two cars were Honda Accords. Coming right from the Accord, I agree with the reviewer's assessment that the RAV4 road feedback and steering feel are light. But you know what? I've gotten used to it and both the subtle road feel and light steering now seem normal to me.
    I absolutely do not agree with the statement that the Sport button does nothing to change the steering. The Sport definitely makes the steering "heavier" and more responsive in my RAV4. I don't know what may have been going on with the reviewer's model to not allow him to notice a difference.
    I love my RAV4 as much as I loved my two Accords.

    I watched this when I first got my 2018 rav4 LE but now after almost 3 years of owning it I’ll let y’all know I feel about it. As I said I own a 2018 Rav4 LE has almost 50k miles the things I love about it is that it’s really comfortable the cloth seats held up really nicely no rips and the interior held up really well being from Florida sand rain mud wet boots are common. Paint looks good plastic isn’t showing all that much fading except the mirror plastic you can see I guess the clear coat or something kinda wearing off, and the very top of my headlights are yellowing just a tiny bit but headlights always do that no matter what so I’m not worried about it. The only thing I don’t like about my rav4 is the actual carpet it’s like soft material then kinda like strings of “carpet” kinda hard to explain what it looks like but the floor mats are great from keeping it any more wore down looking. I drive 90 in the highway most of the time and did a trip from Sarasota county to Jacksonville gas mileage was great and again the seats are comfortable. A really well rounded suv definitely will be buying a higher end limited rav4 when the time comes for a new car.

    I just bought 2017 rav4 LE and drove 5 hours and thought it was very comfy seating. I agree the screen and radio arent the best set up but nothing to complain about. The ride quality is great I thought, maybe you have been in to many luxury 4x4s and are spoiled. The steering is great, this is not a subaru wrx sti stop being so picky. I think you are a bad driver, you had to stop and back up in your video for not stopping at a stop sign or light soon enough, proof enough there. I also thought the for being small suv, it had great seating space. Especially after seeing how small back seats are in any modern car.

    Bought a 2017 used with 14K. I'm 5'4" and 190 lbs. We drove 1600 miles and this car had a great bolster seat for me. Really held my bum well. The road noise is bad on rough ones but good on concrete. Our tow vehicle is a 4Runner. The Rav4 is great for trips without the RV. Thanks for the great video but everyone needs to drive one for their body style and decide.

    Hmm, interesting views. You find the Honda infotainment system to be great while others find it a mess, others think the Toyota system is the best. Not devaluing your opinion at all, just interesting. I guess it all comes to personal taste. I've heard different things about the seats too. Some love them, some hate them. I guess it depends on who you are. The ride quality though, I think really depends on the version you choose. The LE/XLE models have the smaller rims with higher sidewall tires which probably fix the issues you state in this model. I've heard the Hybrid does institute some suspension changes as well (to accommodate the drive system) so its firmer, firmer still with the 18s on the Limited/Platinum. The SE is the least comfortable I think, given its sport suspension. Good reviews though. I don't think my opinion is swayed though, the RAV is certainly the type of car you buy and keep for 10+ years.

  • @emrooker

    I agree on the seats. However it didn't take 3-4 hours for my hips to hurt, it took much less time and once they were in pain, everytime I got in the RAV4 they hurt almost instant. Those bolsters put too much pressure on hip joints. I kept the RAV4 for 5 months and got rid of it. Lost a bunch of money, but whoever got it after me got a good deal unless it hurt their hips too.

    • @kayopechtate6357
      @kayopechtate6357 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same complaint. 2017 RAV4 limited Hybrid here with only 5000 miles. Toyota sent me a questionnaire and I let them know about the seats with the middle cushion that feels like it's sagging after a few months, making the bolsters cut into my hips... painful. In the meantime, I have a thick folded up towel on the seat. Makes a huge difference.

    • @PVo-1111

      Kay O'Pechtate I had a 15 corolla which has the same seats. It annoyed and hurt my back also. But then after a 12 hour trip to Colorado I figured out the best seat position to help it, I had to lean the seat back a bit more. Also there are these things you can buy that fits at your lower back that helps the lumbar support and those really help too. I am going to Colorado again this winter and your comment reminded me of my corolla so I'll remember to buy that support or fold up a towel like I did last time lol.

    • @closinginonclosure
      @closinginonclosure 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm 6'3" and have absolutely zero problems. I'm seated comfortably without obstruction or accidentally hitting any buttons, while both driving and entering and exiting the vehicle. Is it possible you have tge seat positions in a less than ideal spot? If you adjusted the seat height, angle, and proximity to the steering column. Maybe you could alleviate your issues. Given me being taller with no issues, and multiple other comments from tall people with no problems. It seems it may be something others than the vehicle itself and it's layout.

    Very good vid. Don't know if I agree with you in regard to the handling aspects. I actually think the handling aspects are awesome. However, this could be because I'm coming from two compact Nissan Hatchbacks with basically non-existent steering feedback. But, there are instances where I'm reminded that I am in a "small suv." Now, again, this only really occurs when the car is pushed a bit harder than normal, but never the less, I do appreciate the handling of the car. Note, I have the '16 Rav SE, but I don't think the specs differ all that much, if at all in handling specs. Your opinion is welcomed, Shifting Lanes?

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The handling isn't "bad" per say, there are just better handling cars in the segment. CX-5 and the CRV are noticeably better.

    • @22Kevi
      @22Kevi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I can see that. Never tested the CRV, but I did cross-shop my car with the CX-5. I like the CX's performance for sure, even the price was a plus, but I ultimately had to give it to the Rav for the options and overall space.

      My sister owns a Toyota rav4. I hate riding as a passenger in her car when we go out somewhere together. The seats are hard, and uncomfortable, the ride is stiff, and there is a lot of interior noise when driving. She bought her rav4 in 2018, and the quality of interior did not age well. I saw a lot of chipped paint on the plastic dash and doors, the whole interior looks old and worn. That's why when me and my sister go somewhere together I prefer to drive us in my cadillac xt4.

    I just picked up a 2017 Toyota Rav4 XLE. Since I like the car so much after a week of driving it, your video was intriguing. I agree with you on the backroads being a bit bumpy at 50+mph (Ave N from 50th E to 90th E in Palmdale, CA). I can feel all the little road repairs, and the absorption of the compensation, but I'm glad it's not floaty. The steering wheel feels tight and responsive enough (not as tight as Ford Escape, which I test drove). I didn't have any trouble with your other points, although I'm about your same size, and haven't done a long road trip yet. OK, two minor things that bug me though... At night, when I turn off the headlights, so I don't shine them into houses in my culdesac, my interior cabin lighting goes out too, so it's hard to see where the automatic transmission is set to (drive, N, reverse, etc) - I know if the rear camera comes on, then I'm in reverse, OK, but the shifter is blacked out. Maybe there's a setting for this? The second thing is that the car sits a little high, which I like, but the high center of gravity does make it feel like I can't go as fast on winding mountain roads. For comparison, my original Scion XB is low to the ground and has no trouble keeping up with sedans in mountain curves. This may be just something I'm not used to and that's fine. Having said all of that, if I didn't absolutely love the car in all other ways, including reliability, I would not have bought it. Those are just my small nitpicks, which goes along with this video. Evidently, Toyota has not learned anything about the RAV4 redesign other than how to cut more corners.
    I own a 2013 RAV4 and most of the video points apply to the 2013.
    - Seats are hard as a rock.
    - Regarding suspension, You might chip a tooth going over bumps.
    - Infotainment is clunky and has constant bluetooth connection issues.
    - Interior cheap plastics are FILLED with rattles and squeaks. THIS CANNOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH.
    I test drove mine when the temp was under 30° and thought the stiff ride and seats were because of the cold weather, NOPE.
    This, after owning 9 Toyotas, I won't be buying another... I don't care how reliable they are.
    Oh yeah, it'll run forever... but if I'm uncomfortable driving this toaster appliance of a car, it just won't work for me.

    The front of the vehicle shall be semi- AUDI Q8 2018,
    and the rear of the vehicle shall be semi- BMW X7 2018 .

    Firm seats, infotainment system, ride quality, Good highway/ not Good on backroads/ ruff road, unefective sport mode, light steering rack, tall people might feel uncomfortable in the back seat,, I have one for my wife, she loves it,(2017 Rav4 xlt)she's 5"11 & plump and still finds it comfortable, me with a bad hip with 9 screws holding it together, is a pain in my buttocks! Good gas mileage, compared to my SUPER comfortable seats in my gas gussling Tundra TRD offroad 4x4 ( 2016)

    It's weird. I own this same year but your model is completely different. I am jealous of your interior however a friend of mine owns a 2019 Corolla and the interior is absolutely no different at all. The infotainment system included. I love that cognac color and wish I had it. And your number 4 is the car handles too smoothly on rough roads? Weird gripe but okay.

    Do you have problems with the passenger side window "fogging" up. Every time it rains,,the window will fog on the outside. So if I look into the side view mirror, I can't see anything coming along side me. I've tried Magic Glass, Rainex, etc. My old car if you put the window up and down a few times..it would "clear" the fog from some inside felt inside the outer part of the window frame. This is driving us crazy and is very dangerous. The more humid, the worse it is. Driving it around the Jersey Shore for vacation was horrible! Please help.........anyone else??

      He's making actual observations to warn other people about what they may encounter. Not everyone takes 2 hour test drives to find these things out. No need to be smug. And there are many cars where the seats are comfortable for all size people. It's a design issue, not a user issue.

    • @PVo-1111
      @PVo-1111 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Toyota does need to add more comfortable seats in it. You can tell these are pretty thin seats compared to the older ravs. These are fine for short trips and they look nice but longer trips I can tell it'll be like my corolla on long trips because these seats are identical to the ones in the corolla. I will be taking this on a 12+ hour trip in December and I'll update again. I'm average Asian size and that's what these seats are designed around right?

    I have a 2017 LE. I agree about the bumpy ride, road noise as well on rough pavement. I have Geolander tires which were over inflated when I purchased it. Lowered the psi to spec hoping that would help but did not. Love everything else about the vehicle. Bothers me enough to where I am going to sell for something else I can live with. I realize ride comfort is subjective.

    Thanks Greg. I did the quest for a reliable Rav4, multiple variations and this is what I found: I agree with infotainment miss, and driving jitters. However, my issues were too much road noise (70 db on the highway), and the pricing gaps from base model from LE, then XLE, to Ultra expensive came close adding 15 grand to the sticker. The interior is bare bones, to ultra basic, to really you have to spend 5 grand more to have a ok interior. The steering feel was just that a feel- . I looked to a budget German wagon for my ride.

    1. Butt hurts when drive for 3 hours -fix the butt or get another one, chair has nothing to do with it.
    2. Infotaiment - put your favorite mp3 on the flash usb, plug it in.
    3. Steering wheel - Eco,EV, Sport mode - for an engine, steering wheel do not change to an airplain steering wheel on the Sport mode.
    4?
    5?

I wanted to buy a new Crv, but not with the small engine, turbo and CVT. This was the best option at the time and at the right price…….period.

    Two years ago I bought my first Toyota, yes it was a RAV4. It had about 132k miles on it I now have nearly 150k miles on it and just returned from an over 4,000 mile trip. Seats were fine with my nearly 300 lb body sitting in them for nearly 36 hours within two days. The biggest issue I have with my 2007 limited v6 4x4 is the repair bills. $800 for a new alternator and serpentine belt is ridiculous. Not to mention that every trip I have to add oil along the way. It's starting to feel like the $1,000 a year Ford Ranger's repair bill that I used to own. The thing of it is the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree with other issues also. Guess that will be next months payday to fix them issues. Just saying, because what happen to, "get a Toyota it'll run forever?"

    sports does weight up the steering a lot! I don't know what you're talking about also your dislike about the ride quality might have to do with the fact that you have bigger wheels with less tire.

      I own a 17 RAV and 17 Challenger and let me tell you how wrong you are. It's a base model yes, but Sport mode advances timing and Eco button retards the timing with regular mode dead middle. I believe you're feeling the placebo effect. Sport mode will also hold gears longer in automatic mode.

    Hard, disagree on the steering. There's no such thing as steering that's too light. All modern steering is WAY too heavy. From having driven this gen Rav4 I can tell you that the steering is NOT light. It's average. Also: steering play is a GOOD thing. And not having steering feedback is also a GOOD thing. Essentially, the opposite of everything you said about steering is true. Floating, light steering, and steering play are all GOOD.

    I like my Rav4, it’s very comfortable, I’m 5’11 and 175 lbs, I do agree the stereo system is total shit. The ride is great on the highway and in town, and I’ve had relatives and friends say the same. However my biggest gripe about the vehicle and I’m upset with Toyota on this matter is the fuel economy is total crap and not close to what it’s supposed to be. No matter how much I baby it I can’t get better gas mileage. I’ve always had Honda’s and Subaru’s in the past and I plan on getting rid of the Rav in the near future. I’ll either get a CR-V or crosstrek.
