  • Here's how to safely replace the Tesla Model 3 pyrofuse. It can be done without removing most of the interior, just the bench seat in the rear.

    Checking the resistance was more important for balancing reasons than actually reading the values. Great vid man.

    Nice video! Note that the tiny 2-pin connector to the pyro fuse is not to monitor the pyro fuse, but is used to fire the fuse.

    I just bought a salvaged Tesla Model 3 and has light damage to the front end and blown airbags. The service center will not work on the high-voltage system so I'm going to have to replace the fuse myself. This video makes me feel a lot better about doing it safely.
    Thanks, Casey

      Also can you list the socket types and sizes for the bolts, Don't want to order a 300$ set, just a few dollar sockets. Thanks

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey - the airbags are definitely a challenge to repair! You can have a 'high voltage inspection' done by Tesla after which they will work on the car, but it does come with a significant charge ($500 last I checked.) This isn't too bad of a job as you can see if it's the only thing wrong. Thanks for checking it out and let us know how it goes.

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will work on that - the main concern is the nuts on the penthouse - you will have to buy the custom Tesla socket for that. There are some aftermarket replacements if you look around.

      @@teampgr Yea so my local service center is new and confused as to how and if that inspection can be done and if it will restore supercharging if and when they disable it. Ordering my first round of parts today going to run me close to 2000$ just to get a/c and cooler installed with other parts. Hope I get my parts soon as I want to get this thing on the road by the end of the summer. Thanks for your help,

    To be pedantic you should check that the meter is working first on its selected high dc voltage range then use it to check the power is indeed off on the pack and then check that the meter still correctly registers the test voltage again afterwards, just to make sure the meter did not itself fail between the first test and using it with a vengeance. You need a protected high voltage test source for this. Don't mess with high voltage Direct Current, it's even better at stopping your heart than its AC equivalent .....

    Sometimes the connectors to the pyrofuse melt when the fuse blows.

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't doubt that, we've seen the same thing with the airbags as well.

  • @HeyMikeyLikesIt2

    First step, remove entire front end…..I’m dead. Can I use a Gator grip socket on these bolts? Wife got it for me last Christmas. If only someone could 3D print hardened plastic sockets, hmmmmm

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  ปีที่แล้ว

      We tried a couple things that didn't work before buying the right socket. There are far more options out there now because Teslas are getting more popular. If you find something that works update the thread!

    I have the same Tesla Model 3 2020, one motor, and I am a beginner on this here in México. Do you know after fixing the most as possible, if I can ask Tesla for a new password for the Tesla app, or NFC card in order to make the car move? If not possible, is there a trick ?

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only way we know of is to do the owner transfer process - then you can get the account working and use/sync new NFC cards. See: www.tesla.com/support/account-support#claim-ownership

    I have 2022 Model Y; It has small hit on front driver side.
    Front drive belt and roof right and left side air bag is deployed.
    I have change the pyro fuse and use jump start wire to turn on computer on tesla. Computer getting on and it show car has 31% battery. As soon as i remove the jump start wire. Computer screen turn off.
    Do you know the reason why still high voltage battery is not getting on?
    Do i need to change 16 V battery and Also need to clear crash data?
    Does anyone know how to clear the crash data?

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  ปีที่แล้ว

      Does sound like the 12V battery is dead. Replace that first and see how it goes. Separately the airbag module will need to be reset. We sent ours to someone and they reset it for us after the airbags were replaced. Even after you do both of those there could be other errors causing the car to not turn the HV on - check to see what else is there. You have verified the fire loop is connected right?

  • @davidpereiro3686

    I am looking for the pentalobe socket set. The set is not listed on the Tesla website. eBay only shows regular torx sets.

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We found one on ebay, but it was not made from tool steel so it was quite soft. We eventually purchased others elsewhere. The place we purchased doesn't exist anymore, but if you look for "pentalobe, socket, tesla" you should be able to find one now as they are more available. Example: www.penntoolco.com/AHTSE10TP5/

      Hi - when we did this ~3 years ago we didn't have to do anything for the pyro fuse, however we did need to reset the Airbag controller, reset the belt tighteners, and do a firmware update a headlight. It really just depends on what got damaged in the incident.

    Hello
    I had accident other day, someone rear end me and rear wheels are blocked
    no moving
    We have to drag Tesla 3 on to flatbed tow truck.
    Official dealer is asking to much money and I found someone for way cheaper but I can move a car due to impact.
    Tesla dont wont to deal with that and I assume its need to replace Pyro Fuse?

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi - sorry to hear about the accident. If any of the airbags went off then its likely that the pyro fuse is also blown. There might be other reasons why it would blow as well, damage to a number of the parts, issues with voltage etc. that the car doesn't like etc. You can check pyrofuse status by opening up the car into the penthouse like we did for replacement but instead simply checking continuity across the two pyrofuse terminals. If there isn't (or if when you open the penthouse you smell the smell Chad describes in the video) then its likely blown and needs replacement. Be careful and use the right gear when opening the penthouse!

    do you know if the vehicle has an airbag module and if it needs to be replaced or reset after an accident if only the 2 front seatbelts got locked. Like after I change the seatbelts / pretensioners will the airbag light go away or will the module need to be rest ? Thanks in advance

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there is an airbag module. It definitely needs to be a reset when any bags go off, we believe that is true for the pretensioners as well.

      did you ever change any pc parking sensors
      on your Tesla ? There's a bunch of aftermarket

      oem for $50 a piece on eBay. Have you ever tried or

      Hi if the pyro fuse is blown, then would this mean the rest of the vehicle will be off? My car is not going into drive/ reverse but everything else seems to be working

  • @tomh3120
    @tomh3120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I replaced my pyro but the car still won’t drive . A/c and about everything else works . I have damage on the rear trunk lid and therefore it is not shut so the car shows that it’s open. Would that prevent it from driving or do I have a different issue ? Is there anything I need to do after changing the pyro and 12v after the car was in an accident . The 2 front seatbelt and airbag module are out of the car as they are being reset . Not sure if that also would cause it not start?

    • @tomh3120
      @tomh3120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also my driver mirror is off as I’m waiting for a replacement . Would any of these things cause the car not to drive.

    • @teampgr
      @teampgr  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, the mirror probably doesn't matter, nor does the trunk. The airbags are different. The car might not go into gear without a reset of the airbag/safety module.
