I am Listening to this in January of 2024... wow.. this is more relevant now than ever. I will be forever grateful to Fr Mike for being so articulate and honest about what is a marriage. Everyone contemplating marriage should be required to hear this
Go Fr Mike! You are gifted by God to Preach His word in a way that people can understand and understand have conversion which is the ultímate goal! Thank you for opening yourself to God in this way!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
This is old but I just stumbled across this. After being in the “gay lifestyle” over 20 years, I’ve chosen the path of celibacy now, and I don’t know if I can be of any service to you with getting this message out, but I’m willing to help if I can. God bless you men, we need more of this discussion!
Being gay is no "lifestyle". I wish to every gay that he/she finds a loving same sex partner, marries and raises kids in responsibility. As a Deist I send you a lot human love.
God bless this man. I pray he has the courage and strength to spread the truth. Fr. Mike is such a great person, and Satan loves to attack men like this. Give him Your protection. Amen. God bless you all!
I think he must be under God's protection. Why? Have you ever seen him in a bad mood? With all his media commitments, that God must be involved. But I agree with you True2Live this reply is meant to encourage you, others, and myself to continue to pray, pray, pray!
God bless and keep you and your family, Fr. Mike. Thank you for standing up to the truth of Catholic teaching with regards to same-sex attraction with compassion and love. God bless, sanctify, strengthen and protect your priestly ministry and the whole Catholic Church. 🙏
True2Live, here is the nub of the matter for me: As this isn’t science, do we trust our heart in these matters or do we trust our head? It is a great debate. For myself, I never trust my head over my heart. I have a hard time seeing any wisdom whatsoever in Fr. Mike’s words.
@20MysteriesDominican we have no reason to believe being gay is wrong. You might as well believe disease is caused by bad smells. We ought to know better than that by now.
Fr. Mike’s approach is the ‘Church of Nice.’ As Michael Voris would always point out. Fr. Mike does not see Society as a seasoned social/moral observer. He’s very much green, prayer has to become more important. 🙏
We must pray really really hard for Fr Mike. Gifted as he is, he sure is a target of choice for Satan. Gifted as he is, a constant temptation for pride must tail him to watch him fall, literally every moment of his life. Let all the Saints and Angels pray for Fr Mike, keep him firm and humble in Jesus Sacred Heart for the sake of His Holly Church. ⚔️🔥🙏❤️🙏🔥⚔️
@@malachycarson5846 Then why are so many educated people corrupt? and lack wisdom? why do they lack character and courage? @@Peteraddavideo You are not wise, you contradict youself so much in one paragraph. 1. A priest is more educatated than a Phd. therefore you accuse those religious zealots of corruption and lacking of wisdom. You also persume that they lack wisdom and courage. 2. The religious institutions are the major cause of systematic child abuse. Please leave me alone, I can't be bothered with people that think Chaldean mystries, bastardized by Judaism, and then rebastardized by Roman Catachism them re bastardized by Prostantism to take the money from poor people to build mansions to live in and gold temples to worship in. You are not educated or wise, If you are educated then why don't you have basic critical thinking skillz and put myth ahead of peer reviewed science.
Why have "peer reviewed science" trans intellectuals turned away from biological truth to come up with mumbo jumbo like "gender fluidity" to justify unnatural sexual perversion and abuse of self and others? Or am I just "transphobic" instead of accurate ?
I realize this is 6 years old, but more relevant today than ever. This is the most important conversation! I would highly recommend this to young (heterosexual) couples who are thinking about marriage, as Fr. Mike does a great job describing what marriage is. I don't know any one who is saying these things right now.
seriously, I've got the TH-cam vol. amped up, the computer vol. at %100, and the external speaker tuned all the way up. I just hope an email notification doesn't pop up!
Please give something of substance instead of throwing your hate on these people who are trying their best to be loving while explaining the Catholic faith. If you aren't here to be open-minded it would be best to not comment at all. I pray you all find peace.
i hate how people always tell people who are against gay marriage to be more open minded or that they're being bigots or whatever but if you're respectfully presenting your opinions no one should say you're being hateful. HAVING DIFFERENT OPINIONS DOES NOT MAKE YOU HATEFUL
I think a great compromise is to simply rename gay "marriage" to "civil unions," and apply the same laws and rights of a traditional marriage. This way, everybody's happy. Period.
Fr Mike I think you did a pretty good job explaining with quotations from the Bible and also talking heart to heart understanding the complex issue. It was not an easy debate but the Holy Spirit guided you very well.God bless you Fr Mike!
@Armi Hajos I will pray that you repent from blaspheming the Catholic Church, the one true church founded by Christ our Lord. I will pray that the scales are removed from your eyes so that you may see God's truth within Catholicism. I will pray for you brother that you will find that you are believing misconceptions about Catholicism and in turn , spreading error. May God Bless you in your journey !
Thanks God for your servant Fr Mike .May you be glorified through him , also I prayer for those suffering in anyway (not understanding)about the union of marriage )I prayer that you may have insight and understanding.fr Mike explains it beautifully bless all who read this ❤️🥰

This has been a thoughtful, profound, and at times a light-hearted conversation. You've done a great job of making many valid and important points. Thank you.
I absolutely love father Mike! he is on my list of the top five most intelligent people I have ever herd speak. Having clarified that, this debate format left me wanting. The counter arguments are lame. I have herd Father Mike speak to this topic and has done a better job on his own. Because of the weakness of the "counter arguments" I shot at least three holes through them. I would love to see a legitimate debate with Father Mike with stronger arguments and a real opposition. I have to say in closing, I love father Mike, you are amazing thank you for speaking to this subject that hurts many Catholics.
Fr Mike is a nice person, but he is not following Bible scripture and law. Jesus has not given any indication that things are any different. There are many gay people who aren’t so gay, they are traumatised and confused.
@@helenwoodward2690 And many more who are traumatized by people with mindsets like yours. When will people understand this isn't something to be 'cured' or 'corrected'? That they deserve equal opportunities and happiness just like anybody else and denying them that creates only more trauma, misery and depression? That a family is defined by the people you choose to invite and include in your life and not necessarily be related by blood or predetermined set of rules and values? I have never heard that point about biologial unity demanding a complimentary body and I have been searching this topic for a while. Such a good point.
im actually surprised that the Bible has so many mentions of homosexuality. This is common sense. Things that are common knowledge are not reiterated countless times. There was no gay marriage in Israel. The only gay relationships were in the pagan world around them. If Jesus considered gay marriage to be natural and good, he would have addressed it. Not only that, there was no gay marriage in the early Church. Which would mean that the Church erred as a whole, which is impossible. The writers of the Bible knew about homosexuality darn well, their freaking emperor had a gay husband. You can't really plead ignorance. They didn't find the need to bore their readers to tears about an issue that only pagans had. Do you see your pastor preaching about rape and bestiality every Sunday.
Garegin Asatryan The irony here is that Paul points out in his letter to the Romans, that God has basically given up on homosexuals. So why don't Christians take God's lead and just let them do what they want to? "The jews in Judea were under a mosaic law court system. Homosexuality was illegal there even though it was legal in the Empire. The epistles that deal with homosexuality were addresses to gentiles because they DID practice it."
"Do you see your pastor preaching about rape and bestiality every Sunday".- how do you make that equation? And just by the way, Jesus never even mentioned the word "homosexual". I am not necessarily for/against gay marriage (different discussion) but you certainly cannot consider yourself a thinking person and mean to equate homosexuality to rape and bestiality? Explain that leap to me, please.
Same-sex actions were not thought about in the context of love, since children were necessary to keep the tribe/farm growing. As catholics, cultural context and historical context is important when studying the bible. Catholics are not fundamentalists/literalists. Philosophy is the basis of church teaching on sexuality, not the bible.
Garegin Asatryan The Bible mentions sexual actions between 2 heterosexual men a total of 6 times throughout both the new and old testemant. If that is what “so many” means to you, you’re ridiculous.
Funny how most haters don't know Father Mike. That his younger brother is gay, whom he loves yet some people here call him a bigot. He shares what Jesus said and you hate him. Well, Jesus said the world hated him first...we will be hated too.
Also David Russell, You're right in a sense one cannot interpret scripture to their own liking.... Thus we must ever be open to learning and gaining a better understanding of what was meant when scripture was written. It's why we study the Church Fathers, submit to what was taught in ecumenical councils and read and follow the lives of the Saints
This debate is such a great way to pull the true hearts of same hearts in understanding the points of view on lost but not stolen or lost hearts. Thank you so much for this interacción of exercising back and forth on this huge matter. Thank you Patrick and Father Mike, because that’s what our gays brother and sister are trying to impose and defended. When is NOT defendable.
If you don't care about something or someone, you don't talk about it or them at all - So a 2 hour talk about some thing, or some one, shows that WE DO CARE. We care about their souls and especially about the children they are indoctrinating or grooming.
Every last verse, statement, order, proscription, directive, commandment, or mention of marriage in the Bible (OT and NT) was always and every where male and female, without exception. Every mention of male-male or female-female sex was condemned, without exception. Must be a reason for that.
The people of that time were homophobes? Or they had an equally poor understanding of homosexuality as they had of menstruation and made equally irrational rules about it?
Stephan Marcus "The people of that time were homophobes?" Given the health risks, probably. ----------------------- " Or they had an equally poor understanding of homosexuality as they had of menstruation and made equally irrational rules about it?" They understood menstruation better than most people in first world countries do today. Look at the Mosaic law which was part of their deal with God to become a people as numerous as the stars. When one looks how this was accomplished it make perfect sense. Under the Mosaic law they couldn't engage in sexual intercourse when a woman was menstruating. Why? Because of the unlikely result of a pregnancy taking place. In fact, the only time allowed was when a man's wife was ovulating. Lo and Behold, that's the best way to insure the best chance of conception taking place. So they knew plenty about a whole lot more than most people are aware.
Stephan Marcus The Bible said period blood was unclean long before we ever knew that. And it said to wash hands in running water. And the circle of the earth was hung on nothing.
Gentlemen, another reason to be Catholic...because what you're saying is reasonable and just. It is clear and understandable without standing on the street corner screaming at each other. This is a cornerstone of the true church...it is of Christ. Thank you for your thoughtful, prayerful and gentle arguments. Praise Jesus
"The pro homosexual cause" doesn't exist because it's a scientific FACT that we exist and that being gay is a variation no different to having blue eyes or size 9 feet. It's a slightly pedantic point to make, but words have meaning and it's important to be clear so that a healthy conversation can be had.
Let's be clear on terminology. There is no same sex or gay "marriage". Call it "coupling". Call it whatever type of relationship you want, but it is NOT marriage. Marriage, by DEFINITION, is between ONE MAN, and ONE WOMAN, FOR LIFE, ordered to the procreation and education of offspring (which is not possible in a same sex relationship), and the good of the spouses. That is the Church's definition. There is no other. Why do you let the secular media and the zeitgeist define your terms? The Church has defined marriage. The Church and those who claim to teach in its name, therefore, dictate the terms, not the mainstream liberal media.
Bigots are people who want others to believe the same lie, so technically you are a bigot since you represent 0-3 % of humanity and want us to baptize sinful behaviors that are against nature, that is real bigotry
You all do realize there's a difference between Civil Marriage and Holy Matrimony. The church's marriage is purely defined by church teachings so it is between one man and one woman. Civil marriage is defined purely by the state and, at least in the US, is between two people regardless of gender. They are completely separate things.
Ah...the magic word "bigot". The easy way to "win" an argument when you cannot address the validity of someone's point. Your relationship has nothing to do with authentic marriage. I will call it a "schmarriage" or let's say counterfeit marriage.
Please pray for Father Mike . The Enemy is trying to cause Father to fall , every minute of every day. The Devil HATES those who are used so mightily for God's purposes . PLEASE pray for him .
I appreciated this SO much! It gives you great tools to better understand what truly marriage is. An Argentinian author called Nicolas Marquez comes to mind, he did this analogy: “You are not discriminating same sex attracted couples because you say they should not have access to marriage, otherwise it would be like saying we discriminate a blind person if the state does not grant her a driver’s license. They just do not have what they need in order to have access to marriage”.
To many Catholics, some of the marriages performed in church are not "true" marriages. Marriage is so that 2 may become one and create a family. Therefore, if one person already has kids with someone else or if neither person intends or is able to have children, it's not a "true marriage". For example, two people who have never been married but have children with other people, people who have been widowed but had children in their previous marriage, people who may not have children but are too old to procreate, people who are unable to have children or someone who has had an annulment but already had kids within the annulled marriage. None of these folks should be able to get married in church.
Some Father Mike Gems: "If we don't understand the sin, we will never understand the One Who bears our sins." (Wow. Thank you for putting into words what has been slowly and painfully developing in my understanding. To think that it took me a number of years, when all I had to do what listen to this sentence for it to make sense.) "If you can just do what you want, and it doesn't affect me, awesome. The moment it starts affecting me, now I have to stop feeling and start thinking." (Not at all dumb - it makes clear how relativism is an expectation that others will bear the brunt of effort or negative consequences for the acts of still others; it's the natural development of the self-centeredness of the Me Generation).
I live in Africa. Homosexual rights is a matter of life and death here. The morality that you are so happy to subject yourself to, kills people. The church continues to stigmatize gays and lesbians and has been very slow to condemn the violent homophobia that is endemic in many places. But as long as you're saved and on your way to heaven all is fine, right? It's the people who are being raped and murdered who are self-centered and are forcing others to bear the consequences of their actions. Right?
@@jerryrobertson4422 God sanctions slavery and does not prohibit abortion. The church of today present both practices as sinful. In these cases the church learnt from society and seem to accept that the Bible was addressed to specific people living in specific circumstances at specific times. Modern homosexual relationships did not exist in first century Palestine or the Roman empire: the apostles had nothing to say about it, because they did not know about it. Current theology about homosexuality is just the church reading its present bias into an ancient text and in the process causing irreparable harm to countless millions. Do unto others and love your neighbour seems to be better principles to apply in this case.
@@stephanmarcus448 your eisegesis is horrible, my friend. If homophobia is part of your faith, you should leave it behind. Having said that, there is no reason one cant remain a christian AND be accepting and loving of the LGBT+ community.
@@markkuhnlein3081 you ARE supposed to be loving of lgbt people, like everyone. If someone divorces their wife should you hate them? No. Should you hate someone who is gay? Absolutely not. Should you encourage people to be divorced? (Excluding situations of abuse) no. Should you encourage homosexual marriages? No, that is contrary to God’s Word and the word of his Church. However, endorsing homosexuality is no different than endorsing fornication (as I see it, basically the same thing, as biblically God doesn’t see homosexual marriages as holy unions). To be a practicing christian and participating in pre martial or homosexual sex while knowing it is sinful is.. you guessed it! A sin. Off you go to confession.
@@markkuhnlein3081 If homophobia is a part of our faith we should leave our faith behind? We should follow the morals of God, God shouldn’t follow 21st century western morality, rather we follow Him. What would you consider homophobic? Berating people for being gay? That is deeply wrong and anyone who does so should be ashamed. If believing homosexuality is a sin (which.. it is.. according to our faith) is homophobic.. then too bad? I don’t know what you want us to say to that. Lol
The word "marry" comes from a Latin word which means "to impregnate", so the church has dropped the ball completely by parroting the tired old "marriage is between a man and a woman". If the church doesn't return to its roots and point out that what they are sanctioning is pregnancies, they're going to find themselves marrying gay couples, or being forced to go underground...again. The church has a responsibility to return to its teachings on contraception. Those who are too old to reproduce, aren't necessarily too old to reproduce. This is part of the Church's heritage; miracles happen, but they always happen within the natural order. They are never violations of the natural order. We can change laws to accommodate others, but we aren't likely to find nature changing her laws to allow men to be impregnated. The State has some serious explaining to do now that gay marriage is legal because the State has certain incentives and privileges granted to those who have married due to the resulting children. Given that this isn't a possibility with a gay couple, the State needs to either get rid of these incentives and privileges immediately, or grant them to single people as well. It's ironic that homosexuality and bestiality are mentioned in the same verse, and the military handbook that was recently lined out ended up lining out bestiality along with homosexuality. Bestiality is now acceptable behavior within the military now. I'm surprised that Fr. Mike brought up the fact that Leviticus 18 explicitly mentions the fact that the inhabitants of the Promised Land are being expelled because of these abominations. The reason being that these laws are only pertinent to those living in the Promised Land. They are only pertinent to God's holy people. They aren't relevant to those who aren't called to a life of holiness. These are explicitly part of the holiness code within the Mosaic law. The unpleasant ramification is that the Church isn't called to holiness. I lived in and around the immediate San Francisco bay area for over twenty years. I worked for homosexuals, and rented rooms to homosexuals and bisexuals. The torment I saw in these men's lives as well as the havoc and destruction that their lifestyle produced in their extended families, not to mention the destruction and misery within their own lives; was ghastly and tragic. I watched my employer and his partner wither away as the effects of their lifestyle slowly consumed them. One had AIDS, while the other developed a tumor in his brain which drove him completely insane. One of my tenants did enough damage to his sphincter to render himself incontinent. I didn't hate any of these people, but it's difficult not to be overwhelmed by a sense of incredulous confusion at how anyone in their right mind could do something like this to themselves.
@@littleone1656 The Church is truly holy, but if one has attached themselves to a body that sins (sin is defined as transgressing the law), then it clearly isn't holy. The Mosaic law is God's standard of holiness, and things like sodomy, fornication, swine, etc. are all referred to as "abominations". They aren't just sin. They are detestable to God. Unless one is inclined to believe in a capricious deity, they cannot adhere to these arbitrary laws created out of whole cloth by charlatans. The slain lamb protects the church from death which then results in her liberation from sin, followed by an acute awareness of God's law. Under the Old Covenant, God requested that the church be brought before Him that he "may prove them". This isn't anything the flesh wants to go through so the Old Covenant's modus operandi relied upon sacrifices in lieu of Christ's sacrifice. It relied upon "will and effort" (Romans 9:16|). The Church or in the Greek "ekklesia" or "called out ones' are called from sin and death, not to a life of trying not to sin or die. That's the Old Covenant, not the New. As Paul points out, those who "walk after the flesh will not fulfill the lust of the flesh", and "only the doers of the law shall be justified". There is only one law. God is not a respecter of persons. A church that openly defies God's commandments cannot be holy. A church that profanes what God has sanctified, e.g. the Sabbath, marriage, the dietary laws, usury, etc. is not God's church, and cannot be holy. The Church looks nothing like the fallen world which has no interest in keeping any of God's laws.
@@littleone1656 The creed blatantly states "one holy and catholic...etc." The one and only universal church isn't part of any denomination. The one true church doesn't have any members who would ever engage in Ad Hominem attacks, therefore we can all safely assume you're not here to engage in any serious discussion. You're just here to troll. Try using some bait next time. Nuff said.
The creator is the same Yesterday , Today and Forever. If he calls it an abomination it is an abomination forever. The Most high is a RIGHTEOUS JUDGE ,He loves JUDGMENT and Judgment goes right along with his laws. And also , let us not forget that the Most High created LOVE and is LOVE! Martial Notam "The creator is the same Yesterday , Today and Forever. If he calls it an abomination it is an abomination forever." So true!!! And this is why Christianity is in open defiant rebellion against God. God calls eating pork, shellfish, catfish, etc. "an abomination", and this deception that has crept into Christianity that tells us God has become capricious in allowing one type of Christian to eat garbage while forbidding it from another one is pure nonsense. ------------------------- " Whenever a man or woman acknowledges that the Most high detests a certain act, if they love the creator and fear him who created life, surely he knows best.Let them repent and ask him for guidance, he is truly faithful to forgive and abundant in love. we may be weak but he who is calling us is STRONG AND MIGHTY. The Most high is a RIGHTEOUS JUDGE ,He loves JUDGMENT and Judgment goes right along with his laws." So true! Of course God's laws are all for our benefit. They were made "for" us, not us for them. So why would anyone want to ignore God's beneficial laws and become debt slaves, or ignore a day God designed for our rest?
I’m confused as to why the guy who says he’s a priest says he doesn’t bring up scripture he said he just says “you are good” when Jesus himself said in Luke 18:19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

Beautiful - unfortunately microphones must have been too low. Worth it to process the video at a higher volume even if it distorts it a bit. Too important not to. My son volunteers to do that! :0)
be mindful that this isn't s religious topic but one of our very own nature. let's make this simple - if we took all homosexuals to one side of the world and then put others on the other side - what will life look like in 100 hundred years after? one side life will no longer exist the other side will need more space because our very nature has kept us alive and being fruitful. so whether your Catholic or asthiest - the truth is that men are made for women Period. man cannot make life with another man and woman cannot make life with another woman.
let me get this straight, after seeing what goes on in the Catholic church for the last 25 or so years..... does raping and abusing children qualify for maintaining one's chastity according to the church's teachings? Does covering up these crimes qualify as holiness and righteousness in Christ? God forbid two men do anything physical in a loving relationship, but it's ok to rape children and cover it all up as if it doesn't happen... Just wondering how to interpret the teachings and dogma of the One Holy and Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Can someone help me out here?
Andy, absolutely NOBODY is saying the abuse of children & coverup is ok. Those clergy that abused children (or anyone) were wrong & should be imprisoned & prayed for. But sinful priests do not make our Lord's teachings on same sex attraction wrong.
❤I love the position of loving the sinner but not the sin. It's such a volatile discussion. To not disrespect our brothers and sisters who are gay. We still love you with Jesus way of loving.
splashpont 2 people of the same gender simply cannot be married as they fail to meet the qualifications regardless of the laws passed. Definition of marriage has been and will always be defined by God as the union of a MAN and WOMAN.
@@disrupt94 How is marriage a right? It is a sacrament, it goes beyond the self. The fact that it 'predates Christianity' in no way devalues this. Legally they may be married, in the same way that a man can 'legally' be a woman. It does not make it a reality
" How is marriage a right?" The government literally puts you down as partners legally, allows you to have shared wealth, tax benefits and even social security. It's not defined as a privilege, neither are there conditions set other than another consenting adult willing to marry you. In what possible universe is this not a right? Even inmates like Charles Manson retain the right to marry, But I don't see you complaining about that. " It is a sacrament, it goes beyond the self" Yes, as in a right belonging to two persons.

OMG! Your explanations with so much love have blown my mind. My stepdaughter is gay and “married “ and has a child. I had to take a 180 when I found out she is gay and redefine my idea of marriage because of her love for her partner. I will not deny their love but I will no longer call it marriage…
Very inspiring debate but there are a lot to cover in the deepest way. This is for a start and keep on doing this. It's moral teaching Thank Fr Mike and Patrick.
Yes let's be all sweet and understanding won't we. Whilst sinners fill up hell. The loving thing to do is speak the truth in love. But if we all just try to get along is an hateful response for anyone in their sins and this blasphemy.
1:37:00 Essentially heterosexuals started the practices that removed procreation from marriage years before it became fashionable for everyone else to follow. All the qualifiers of sex that remove the act of love: oral-sex, anal-sex, and contraception (aka birth control). If procreation is removed from marriage, then in effect these couples were behaving sexually in a non-marital substitutional way. And divorce made these practices more pronounced with the added destruction of the family. If we had the nuclear family in the 1980's, then those proverbial atoms were split and a corresponding nuclear reaction destroyed everything in its wake.
To be honest, I don't recall any of the priests in our community allowing contraception or any means of preventing conception among married couples. I have no idea where the guy in glasses got that idea from at 35:00
I've learned this listening to a Bold Man Summit training interview: As children, we don't see ourselves as separated from our mothers so she teaches us to relate to ourselves. If a mother takes care of herself, her children are more likely to engage in self care behaviors. The father is our first love, he teaches us to relate to others and the world. If a father often bullies others or is abusive, his children are more likely to be bullies and be abusive. Both of genders teaches very different lessons and both of them have the potential of raising well rounded individuals. If one gender is missing or fails to live up to their role as mother or father, it can and will and already has caused unbelievable trauma to children. It's why I believe that we live in a deeply traumatized culture here in America.
Fr Mike's line of reasoning made me wonder: And what if a white person wanted to be black and decided to tattoo his whole body? Would he then suddenly be of a different race? No. And neither would people of the same sex be married even if they got the whole world to say they were. The only One who has the right to say who marriage can be conferred upon is God and He said it by creating them male and female, joining them in marriage and commanding them to be fruiful and multiply. Homosexuals will never be able to do that and only multiply their own sorrow by trying. Just like we all do when we try to be something we're not no matter how much we want it to be true.
I don't see much evidence of that - we know there are real children who are now adults and have had gay parents, without experiencing terrible trauma. It's just speculation.
@@alicedeligny9240 That's true. Trauma is a touchy subject. Some are more predisposed genetically to it than others, but there's always gonna be cases that discredits my point or proves it. BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO Fr. Mike. You are a light of illumination against this damaging thinking of the lgbt community. And there is absolutely NO WAY same sex couples should be raising children for oh so many reasons.

just in case it wasn't obvious to people like S.F. Patrick Madrid is playing a part here (like a devils advocate), he doesn't actually believe in these arguments he's just familiar due to being a catholic apologist.
Thank you father Mike for your brilliant arguments! Patricks arguments are very week. No homosexual couple is forced to marry in a catholic church! His argument sounds like if a person who is eating meat complains that he may not enter a community of vegetarians! Therefor there is no discussion about homosexuality or marridge of homosexuals necessary. They may get married in a registry office!
The debate is really: is marriage a legal concept or a holy sacrament? That's it really. If it's just legal, then marriage is about rights and equality etc. But if it's a holy sacrament it could be more than that
A civil ceremony in so much as the society is a jewish theocracy... which would mean its a sacrament. It's a God-given, holy union that reflects humanity's own nature; that man and woman were made with different aspects that fit together and should come together.
Father Mike …brilliant explanation of what marriage is ….you have helped me to think more clearly of this dilemma…marriage is between a man and a woman …God Himself said so….
It's about Heaven and Hell and obedience to God. God prizes obedience (to Him) over everything else. So the real argument here is the existence in God. The only evil in the world is sin. All deliberate sins - homosexual or other - are going to send us to hell.
I'm confused, why are they debating the church's teachings on marriage as though against one another? Aren't they both of the same thought of the correct teaching?

im actually surprised that the Bible has so many mentions of homosexuality.
Garegin Asatryan When Jesus Christ was alive Jerusalem was occupied by Ancient Rome. Ancient Rome did have some same sex couplings
Garegin Asatryan
The irony here is that Paul points out in his letter to the Romans, that God has basically given up on homosexuals.
Garegin Asatryan
The Bible mentions sexual actions between 2 heterosexual men a total of 6 times throughout both the new and old testemant.
If that is what “so many” means to you, you’re ridiculous.

Stephan Marcus
"The people of that time were homophobes?"
Given the health risks, probably.
-----------------------
" Or they had an equally poor understanding of homosexuality as they had of menstruation and made equally irrational rules about it?"
They understood menstruation better than most people in first world countries do today.
" Given the health risks, probably."
Back then people attributed germs to demons.
Stephan Marcus The Bible said period blood was unclean long before we ever knew that. And it said to wash hands in running water. And the circle of the earth was hung on nothing.

"The pro homosexual cause" doesn't exist because it's a scientific FACT that we exist and that being gay is a variation no different to having blue eyes or size 9 feet. It's a slightly pedantic point to make, but words have meaning and it's important to be clear so that a healthy conversation can be had.
Fr. Mike Schmitz made the case to keep Marriage between one man and one woman.
Thank Christ he and the rest of you lost that argument. All for the betterment of humanity.
@@Rage_Harder_Then_Relax That's why marriage is a sacrament.
Mike Cranston And no matter what you think, God defines marriage not you or me. One man, one woman. You are not married.
no your not
you can believe that but it's a lie

@@privateemail5870 I am definitely not defending it.
Father Mike is brilliant and a true man of God!!

(Not at all dumb - it makes clear how relativism is an expectation that others will bear the brunt of effort or negative consequences for the acts of still others; it's the natural development of the self-centeredness of the Me Generation).
I live in Africa. Homosexual rights is a matter of life and death here. The morality that you are so happy to subject yourself to, kills people. The church continues to stigmatize gays and lesbians and has been very slow to condemn the violent homophobia that is endemic in many places.

I don’t understand why you would say that the Church is not called to be Holy. The Church IS Holy.
Correction: I should have typed: "walk after the SPIRIT will not fulfill the lust of the flesh"
Shnarkle VonBarkle so you are not Catholic. That tells me everything I need to know. Peace be to you.

The creator is the same Yesterday , Today and Forever. If he calls it an abomination it is an abomination forever. He gave his son to die for us, so that we being blind and dead in sin may live and see in Messiah the King if we believe in what he has done for us and who he says he is, the Son of the Living Eloi. Whenever a man or woman acknowledges that the Most high detests a certain act, if they love the creator and fear him who created life, surely he knows best.Let them repent and ask him for guidance, he is truly faithful to forgive and abundant in love. we may be weak but he who is calling us is STRONG AND MIGHTY. The Most high is a RIGHTEOUS JUDGE ,He loves JUDGMENT and Judgment goes right along with his laws. And also , let us not forget that the Most High created LOVE and is LOVE! Therefore we are truly not missing out on anything that this carnal world may offer. So let us hang this flesh on the tree as our KING did for us and also asked us to carry our own crosses , doesn't matter how much we may suffer in the flesh, we got to endure, the reward is far greater! Heaven is the nest of Love. Truth, Peace and Many more.....

"The creator is the same Yesterday , Today and Forever. If he calls it an abomination it is an abomination forever."
So true!!!

So true!

I'm trying to watch this but the volume is REALLY low. :( Any suggestions on how to improve it? :(

PLEASE increase the volume!!!!
Thank you Father Mike!
I really respect the way this was presented. I follow both Mr. Madrid and Fr. Mike. They have qualities that my Lord Jesus has.
Thank you Fr. Mike Schmitz. Brilliant explanation on marriage. God Bless You. Holy Spirit Thank you for giving him the Wisdom.

It'd be nice to listen to this... but whoever recorded or uploaded it screwed up the volume. I can't make out anything.

Beautiful - unfortunately microphones must have been too low. Worth it to process the video at a higher volume even if it distorts it a bit. Too important not to. My son volunteers to do that! :0)
Father Mike, Thank you! You Re so Blessed. Truth+Truth =Truth!
be mindful that this isn't s religious topic but one of our very own nature. let's make this simple - if we took all homosexuals to one side of the world and then put others on the other side - what will life look like in 100 hundred years after? one side life will no longer exist the other side will need more space because our very nature has kept us alive and being fruitful. so whether your Catholic or asthiest - the truth is that men are made for women Period. man cannot make life with another man and woman cannot make life with another woman.
That's what ihought I was reading the knife of never letting go, and that is what I thought
Some people were made to pro-create and some were not. However, not all were made to be monks/nuns. Better to marry than to burn....
let me get this straight, after seeing what goes on in the Catholic church for the last 25 or so years..... does raping and abusing children qualify for maintaining one's chastity according to the church's teachings?
THAT, my friends, is how you defend marriage.
Why does marriage need to be defended? People WANT to be married! Even same gender couples!
splashpont 2 people of the same gender simply cannot be married as they fail to meet the qualifications regardless of the laws passed.
Definition of marriage has been and will always be defined by God as the union of a MAN and WOMAN.
Defend marriage? Is marriage under attack or what?
@@disrupt94 How is marriage a right? It is a sacrament, it goes beyond the self. The fact that it 'predates Christianity' in no way devalues this.
Legally they may be married, in the same way that a man can 'legally' be a woman. It does not make it a reality
" How is marriage a right?"
The government literally puts you down as partners legally, allows you to have shared wealth, tax benefits and even social security.
It's not defined as a privilege, neither are there conditions set other than another consenting adult willing to marry you.
In what possible universe is this not a right? Even inmates like Charles Manson retain the right to marry, But I don't see you complaining about that.
" It is a sacrament, it goes beyond the self"
Yes, as in a right belonging to two persons.
Why are we talking about people and not offending people. What about God? Is He not offended when we misuse/abuse the bodies that He gave us as instruments to save our souls....but we use it to our damnation instead.
Time to undo the perverted Supreme court ruling and return to decency and the truth, not "moral relativism."
They both have same view. How is it a debate?
I wanted to see this debate but the volume is too low and I'm not going to spend 2 hours straining to hear what is being said. Please fix the audio so I can back and see this later.
It wasn't a debate. How is it a debate when both parties think the same way. In another words both DON'T agree with same sex marriage. It was a sad attempt to make you people look like you give a shit when in reality religion has poisoned minds and tried to destroy common sense. You're all brainwashed fucking fools
OMG! Your explanations with so much love have blown my mind. My stepdaughter is gay and “married “ and has a child. I had to take a 180 when I found out she is gay and redefine my idea of marriage because of her love for her partner. I will not deny their love but I will no longer call it marriage…
Yes God love every person, but God give to us rules, and we have to obey His rules,it is not anger just
follow God’s rules and not make our own 🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻✝️
Such a pity to post a great conversation and nobody can hear it because the volume is messed up. Please repair it and post it again.
You guys have to find a way to make these videos louder.
Very inspiring debate but there are a lot to cover in the deepest way. This is for a start and keep on doing this. It's moral teaching Thank Fr Mike and Patrick.
This was so well done. 10/10
Mr. Madrid, it is very difficult to look on both sides. This takes skill well done.
Its kinda funny watching a Christian play "devils advocate" 😂😂
It's just a theory of the roles of a mother and father relating to their child which I found compelling. I just thought sharing it would be appropriate for this video. Yeah it's a theory that I found compelling

BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO Fr. Mike. You are a light of illumination against this damaging thinking of the lgbt community. And there is absolutely NO WAY same sex couples should be raising children for oh so many reasons.
Can I have those reasons? And if you’re going to say “a kid needs both a father and mother” did you not know single parents existed? Or are you just ignoring that to fuel your own bigotry?
@@prince5063 Oh dear someone trying to defend the indefensible. You should know child needs both a mother AND a father for healthy, well rounded life. And I shouldn't have to explain why.

This debate needs Stephen Fry.
The debate needs Bishop Gene Robinson.
No, it doesnt.
why?
God LOVES us all. He does not Love our SIN! When you affirm someone in their sin you are not Loving them! Great job Fr. Mike Schmitz. Patrick Madrid, please stop affirming people in sin. You are not helping them, you are not loving them, you are damming them to Hell.
just in case it wasn't obvious to people like S.F.
But if it's a holy sacrament it could be more than that
Marriage has always been a civil ceremony. The sacramentality of marriage was revealed to the Church during its first 1000 years.
