    This was a great lecture. Fr. Mike is a rare priest that touches topics that are difficult but necessary. Pray for him. Pray for ALL priests. Satan hates them. ~ although that is a badge of honor in God's Army, they need our prayers. No priest, no Eucharist..Jesus help us to carry our cross. +

      Jacob Hall it would be a lonely world if we didn’t love the sinner since there are so many of us. I can’t speak to the specific situation you refer to, but in general Catholic school teachers should adhere to Catholic moral teaching. If a teacher is presenting birth control as a viable option that teacher should no longer teach in Catholic School.

      Yes but is being gay really that bad? I agree that most if not all sins are damaging to your health (physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually). But the only real argument against gay people getting together is that it’s damaging to society. I don’t think it is necessarily.

    Father Mike is a very special Priest. The first video I ever saw of his was "The Hour That Will Change Your Life". If you havent seen that; I highly recommend it. I teach Catechism classes for high school boys to receive confirmation and Father Mike is the "go to" person as far as TH-cam videos. He relates so well to young men. He has that child-like excitement and wisdom beyond his years. I am making a mental list of priests around the US, which I would love to attend their mass and Father Mike is high on that list. I would love to take a vacation across the US, visiting these priest's masses and getting to talk with them.

    The call to God and his glory is true, I know this because after years of lost faith and living in sin. I have felt the Holy Spirt touch me deeply. I have decided to convert, be celibate, and follow The Lord wherever I am called to be. I pray for forgiveness of my sins and that others who are struggling with these sins to hear the call of the Lord and seek his Holy Catholic Church. Fr. Mike Schmitz is an amazing man and I respect him deeply thank you for your videos and lectures Fr. Mike. ✝️

    i feel that before i met God in a personally level I lived scared of lonelyness. I was living in sin no marriage just union not even law but I had my prior mariage anuled so during the process of taking the step to remarry I had to take a big decicion if abstenance but it made it deficult for my partner to a point he was threaghtening to leave but with God in my life it made me no be scare of loosing him... I was more afraid of loosing God's Love I realised I am in love with Jesus so in my heart i had made a choise if ge leaves i will no longer seak for no nan and just stay single. I feel Jesus fills me comepletely.

    We don't need to be afraid of loneliness! God fills that void in our hearts. As humans we seek superficial things to find peace only to leave us empty and alone. I've discovered going to the Word and asking the Holy Spirit to show me His Love. We all have feelings and unnatural desires. It's out of our Love and devotion for our Creator that we sustain from acting on sin. God knows each and every heart! He knows. Turn to Him. ❤

    The Church does not create an us-versus-them situation. That'd be a strawman argument. Those who do not repent of sin are already separated from the Church by God Himself, Jn 15:2.
    Haven said that, Fr. Mike has made a very wonderful presentation in this talk. We must never give up the struggle for holiness.

    Relating a priest’s life of celibacy to same-sex attraction is weird to me. Being a priest is a choice. Being gay or bi isn’t. I can’t help that I like women, and it’s unfair that my relationships could never be seen as a positive, fruitful, beneficial, or life-giving thing simply because of the gender of the person I date or may choose to marry. It’s kinda ridiculous to enforce this idea that all gay people have to be celibate and can’t be in romantic relationships like a priest. That’s like saying “oh, you’re white? Then you have to choose to be celibate because we think God said that white people can’t get married.” (It’s a hypothetical example, don’t bother getting pressed about there not being a specific Bible verse that I cite on it). Point is, it’s a totally arbitrary standard and it makes no sense. You can’t help the way you’re born, and it’s unfair to push this agenda onto people that we’re somehow “wrong” for wanting to be in a spiritual, binding union with the people we love.
    Also, there’s a Bible verse about “Gentile or Jew, servant or free, woman or man no more,” which, to me, implies things that aren’t relevant to the character of a person. Gender/sex is included in that list. If gender/sex is seen as irrelevant to our character, then why does it matter so much in marriage?

I hope that like me, most Catholics don't think that same gender Love is a sin, or divorse women are to not seek conjugal love anymore (they are just the loud minority, I hope). God is love and we ALL who love Him are His church. The clergy does not own the church. Please keep on seeking God's love.

      What you’re saying is partly true, but it doesn’t mean we have to act on those desires. You’re just as much a part of God’s family as everyone else is. However, we do not have the authority to contradict how God designed marriage. Marriage is not a guarantee that you’ll be happy. If you’re gay, God has likely destined you for a purpose that is greater than marriage.

      Those traits likely won't exist at all in Heaven, and for sure the Bible says there is no marriage in Heaven, but they still exist here and the Bible does address people who are not living correctly according to their traits and station in life and tells them how they should live. Old women: stop gossiping. Men: be faithful to the wife of your youth. Women: don't get up in front of the whole congregation and teach. Slaves: obey your masters. Masters: be kind to your slaves, and set them free if they want or keep them if they want. Rich people: don't segregate yourselves and do eat with everyone including the poor. Church: don't show favoritism and give special seats to rich people. People are addressed by their traits. What if the verse is about treating everyone with equal kindness, equal fellowship, equal rights to the full life of a Christian in fellowship with others? What if people are supposed to have different roles, and act certain ways according to their roles that honor God and show love? Who ever said that verse is about traits that used to apply to character and now don't? I always thought they were a list of traits that people used as excuses for power and exclusion from the "in group". In today's terms, traits that had been used for discrimination. There was a time Peter had a vision in which God had to teach him directly to stop excluding Gentiles from being able to enter the family of God. I think God would tell certain Christians now to stop excluding people based on who they're attracted to. But that doesn't mean we pretend like a man isn't a man and a woman isn't a woman, or that if for example two women love each other in faith then it's ok to also love each other as wives or to have sex. They are still women, and they are not supposed to be excluded from church meetings or treated as subhuman or ignored because of their gender, but they are supposed to still only marry men. People of faith in the Bible in the Old and New Testaments were told to not take part in homosexual acts. Not to take part in sexual immorality. Why would it say those things if gender/sex doesn't matter anymore in any way at all?

      @@redeye6560 We are supposed to judge the fruit (which I take to mean attitudes, actions, words, things we can see that came from them) of the believers in the church, but only the believers. We are NOT supposed to judge outsiders. That's God's job. Outsiders have no faith, no commitment to Christ and so it doesn't make sense to expect them to do anything He says or even to have any relationship to Him, and some have no understanding of spirituality either because they can't see any point of view but their own. I remember before I was a disciple of Christ and I only saw the world through my own understanding. It wouldn't have made any sense to me for people to say my morals or life were wrong if I felt I was right, because they're not me and I accepted nobody's authority. I actually was big on following rules, but only the ones that made me feel safe or that got me success in a worldly way, basically the rules that I liked. I didn't think I had any master. Now I know I was a slave to the desires of my body, but I had to learn that through the experience of the world not being able to make me happy. Then I was open to change. Then when I met Christ through His church and experienced love, care, discipline, truth -- then I was ready to start listening to a new way of thinking, and believe.

    As well meaning as this is - it is nothing but clerical condescension arrayed in pious words.
    I am a devout Catholic and a gay woman. Despite my strong faith and fervent dedication to God, the Church will not listen to the experience of Christ in me - it has closed its ears to me and the entire LGBTQ community. It is in God's love for us that he not only gives us his Word, but also lends us his Ear. Just as love of God begins in listening to His Word, love of the neighbor begins in listening to them. When we can no longer listen to our neighbor then we will be no longer be listening to God either.
    Over and over we hear Jesus say, "I desire mercy not sacrifice." In Matthew 25 we hear the Parable of the Talents. Each of the servants received gold from their master, "Then he went away immediately." When the master returns, the first two servants have much more to give back to the master than was originally given because they had taken risks and invested it - the master was pleased. The third servant still only had the one gold coin he was originally given saying, "Master, I know you are a demanding person... so out of fear I went off and buried your gold in the ground." This displeased the master saying, "You wicked, lazy servant!"
    The Catholic Church has taken the many blessing given to us ALL through Jesus Christ and have buried them in the ground. In this act, they have also buried so many of their brothers and sisters; fighting instead only to preserve what it already has, as if that were an end in itself. How can it cling to its flock of “ninety-nine” yet preach that He leaves the ninety-nine to look for the lost one?
    If only you all could see how closely Jesus stands beside me, protecting me and asking me to forgive his Church that does not see. If only you could enter into my weeping and see that Jesus weeps with me.

      Bro had to break it to you that God made man and female, so breaking this is a sin and in Psalms 7:11 is says that God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
      In John 14:15 is says: If ye love me, keep my commandments. So you got to keep the commandents and stop pleasing the flesh if you are going to love him. If you desire your sin then you are not loving him and therefore you cannot enter the kingdom.
      Proverbs 15:29 - The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
      1 Corinthians 6:9-11 - 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
      10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
      The church is not accepting you cause you are breaking the rules.

      Same sex attraction is a heavy cross to bear indeed. But no one is spared (in this life) from bearing the cross. Some crosses are harder than others.

    My dad graduated seminary and went to Rome for Cannon Law studies. He elected not to be a priest. Thank God because he married my sainted Mom. He spent most of his life afraid of those with same sex attraction. Toward the end of his life he called me just because but during that call for some unknown reason he told me that God accepts and loves those with same sex attraction as he does all of us. He went on to say sex outside marriage was forbidden and told me, his heterosexual daughter, that the rules were the same for me. Sex outside marriage cannot happen.

    Really love this. I mean look at this priest. He’s attractive, a great speaker; eloquent, intelligent. You don’t think he struggles with temptations that are beyond yours. He forgoes marriage with a woman and commits to a life of abstinence. He understands the ideas of bearing your cross despite the temptations thrown at you. If all men and women would have an inkling of the mindset of sacrifice the world would be a better place

    I wrote in my journal the other day “Jesus, I am mad that the Catholic Church made your arms no longer feel like home.” The teachings on gay people in Catholicism have wounded me so badly. This is just conversion therapy under another name. You can say it love, I don’t feel it at all.

      The Catholic Church does not have teachings about “gay people”. The church teaches about sin, repentance and mercy for all His children. I promise, if you continue to receive the Sacraments and dedicate yourself to knowing Jesus personally and following His teachings, you will find joy. I say this after reading so many beautiful stories of people who lived same-sex attractions for decades, encountered Christ and turned away from those attractions and are so happy and fulfilled.

Mike, I have to say that It had been quite a couple weeks for me before I'd actually been able to shed even a single tear, not because I didnt want to but because of My very own health.., You See-- I too love picking up my Daily Cross as Jesus has taught us, and how my favorite Saint, Padre Pio himself has taught my so well after so long from my last horrific Migraine which I just suffered from like 2 &1/2 weeks ago, which was what wouldn't even allow me to shed a tear!! -- All that said, I must say that it's been nearly each and every Single One of Your Most Wonderful Homilies which I try my very best Daily Masses, along with anything else-ehether they be Simple teachings or Otherwise--,For like Tonight's Message for Me Anyways it Held Tons of Forgotten informational Messaging for me, that I truly felt isn't told to Us Catholics As often as it should be! ##- Your last 10 Minutes could've been the Most Powerful Words to Me in the whole Teaching, yet I'm glad I save them All in case any of My friends ask me where I heard of You..?!?.. 😁🥰🙌 ##- Keep up your good Work, Fr. I was raised in the church, and I only ever experienced it negatively. I don’t personally have an issue being called gay, because it’s just a descriptor. I’m also a cook, and I wouldn’t be offended if someone called me a cook.

What I will say is that in my experience, you can choose to follow a faith or belief system without accepting everything that system teaches. For example, if you wanted to try Catholicism again, I’d recommend researching and seeing what you do like and what you don’t like, and then move forward with what works for you.

    Thank you for this. I am a huge fan of your work. I am an Episcopal woman who was thinking of conversion explicitly over transgender ideology. This makes clear that I SHOULD NOT do that as a woman who had a full hysterectomy in my 20s. I don’t believe it’s the will of God for me to be alone and celibate simply due to no hope of pregnancy.

    I'm 60 years old and divorced for well over 20 years. It's too late for me now, I will be alone forever. The loneliness hurts so bad I pray every night to die in my sleep.       we live in a culture that ridicules
      unmarried women of a certain age as if it was by their choice!
      It is noble to wait on the Lord.
      If He has a mate for us . . . Good.
      If He doesn't have a mate for us . . . Good.
      All that matters is that God's will be done.
      It took me a while to come to this conclusion. But I am joyful and grateful.
      Father Mike is giving a POWERFUL talk.. Praise be to God.
      If we belong to Jesus Christ then we are FULL & cared for .
      Our (American) society doesn't have sex put in perspective.
      It doesn't even understand the purpose of sex. Thank God for theology of the body.

      Sex belongs in marriage.
      Sex means being open to life.
      That is countercultural in America.
      But Christians aren't meant to follow the world !

      KMF : I’ve been celibate since my divorce 34 years ago.
      More than once people have questioned my orientation, since I don’t date. My “ex” had our 20 year marriage annulled by our diocese. I feel betrayed by the Catholic Church. If I had realized that I was not married, I’d have taken our 2 children and left the man and his emotional abuse.

    If the purpose of every sexual act is narrowly defined to be heterosexual unity and procreation, then standing on a chair to extend one's reach is a violation of a chair's natural purpose of supporting our butts. Sex is definitely a tool for procreation, but like any tool, it can have more than one "creative" use. There is more than one way to be constructive with most things. Just ask MacGyver. Or ask doctors who use medications for purposes other than what they were initially intended. To stand in the way of people finding happiness for the sake of happiness itself by living lives that are authentic to their true selves is to demonstrate a lack of empathy and a lack of true acceptance and promotes a world view that has caused enough pain that has driven some to suicide.

    I’m in the process of becoming Catholic. I am also a gay man. This is really the one subject that has never made any sense to me. And not because it applies to me.
    The arguments against consensual, loving, committed same-sex relationships just don’t hold up. Jesus said that we shall know them by their fruits in regards to theological teaching. Studies have shown that denying your sexuality and participating in conversion therapy leads to increased depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Those are obviously bad fruits from a bad theological tree.
    I will be the first one to stand with the Catholic Church to call out promiscuity. But there is a clear distinction between promiscuity and a loving, committed relationship.
    It seems that the church has put these standards of living that are just impossible to uphold. Priests are required to take a vow of celibacy. But a recent study shows that most priests break that vow. And a decent proportion break it many times (both heterosexual and homosexual priests).
    I am falling more and more in love with Catholicism and it’s core values. But I also pray for discernment. It’s healthy to wrestle with these things. I think blindly following along is quite dangerous and detrimental to one’s being and faith. To wrestle and question oftentimes leads to a deeper faith.

      God bless you mate, I’m very much in a similar boat. Just know that theirs a big difference between dogma and doctrine. Doctrines can be reevaluated, reinterpreted, and changed. Dogma can’t. Theirs very few dogmas, but many doctrines. The Church’s teaching on homosexuality is a doctrine. You can disagree and even dissent from it (though I’d still recommend keeping things on the down-low) and still be a Catholic in good standing.

      Indeed. A lot of Catholic teachings on this topic don't go much further than, "We're all oriented toward some things that are not good for us.", but that's where it stops. This talk addresses the pain, loneliness, and real world human experiences of people with this wound. Very important teachings here.

    The church needs to stop talking about same sex attraction that way. It’s actually very fine to say gay and lesbian in church. It’s not an identity as the fact that I AM white and AM European. It’s not my identity but it’s part of me. Being gay is not an identity but it’s part of it. The thing is that saying you have same sex attraction minimizes the thing. You don’t just have SSA, it changes a lot of things in your life, not just the way you’re attracted to people. As the fact that I’m white, i might need some solar cream. Is it a brokenness ? Absolutely not. Saying you’re gay doesn’t make you less than an heterosexual. It’s doesn’t make you broken. God takes our brokenness to make them our strength. We go from glory to glory so even if you’re gay, God can make beautiful things through it !!! So please, stop just saying Same sex attraction, it’s not only attraction. It’s way beyond just attraction.
    + not all LGBT people suffer from being gay. You can’t compare it to people who were abused or molested or born blind or with injuries. It’s just different. We don’t have to look at it with pity as if it was unbearable.

      Absolutely. There's a book by an evangelical named David Bennett called 'A War of Loves', detailing his conversion from an anti-theistic gay activist to someone who's found true happiness and fullness in celibacy for Christ. He makes this exact point towards the end. Its often an assumption of straight people that someone calling themselves 'gay' means they must be into a particularly licentious lifestyle, or have a political agenda, but its simply not true. In his experience (having been part of groups with agendas), straight churchfolk insisting on people like himself using the term 'same-sex attracted' often serves to make them feel more otherised by the church.
      I think a lot of us, for the sake of those brothers and sisters in Christ (and indeed, our brothers and sisters He wants us to invite into the church) would do well to listen to such feedback and modify our language accordingly. If someone chooses to adopt the term gay, then use that term around them. If someone happens to prefer the term same sex attracted, use that around them. LGBT people (either those who have been hurt by churchfolk, or those who are trying to come into the Church from a secular background) already have enough potential stumbling blocks in their paths: lets all avoid adding to them

      If you were put on this Earth with brown hair, you cannot control it. It was a great example a friend offered to explain their orientation. You can’t control your heterosexuality or homosexuality because it is not a choice. (Ask a heterosexual!) The Catholic Church has placed way too much emphasis on sex. Considering priest and nuns are celibate, I don’t think they can offer constructive instruction when it comes to intimacy between two people regardless of orientation. Unitive is included in the Catholic definition of sex as well. That’s inclusive of anyone who loves another person. Don’t get me started on masterbation!

    Priests are often lonely souls who are expected to be perfect. I always hear about how they serve a higher calling -- that it transcends a personal need for intimacy. But it is a difficult vocation and it can lead to major personal failings. Although I won't say I cannot make a general observation, I can see why some end up in scandals that end in big money payoffs from the Catholic Church. Let us not forget that priests are still human beings. With human needs.

      Noe Berengena Actually you only need Christ in your life to make you whole. Each one of us has a calling. If we are in a situation that is not what God wants us to be, we will be lonely, unfulfilled, dissatisfied and broken. That is why we need to discern our calling before we jump into something just bcz it is what we want. Anyone who has a personal relationship with God will never be lonely. Trials or problems will come to you but if you are with Christ, there is always a way out. You will not be crushed. Jesus said, come to me all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. My yoke is easy and my burden light. Learn of me for I am meek and humble of heart. That is why in the midst of trials, we still have joy in our hearts all because of the grace of God.

      @@MeritBiz That's very nice, but I have known more than a few priests who drank way too much or who got into trouble making inappropriate contact with minors. One of them was a family friend -- he shot himself in the head after his underage victim came forward. Another one was fired by his University after revelations about him molesting male students were reported. Being a priest is a lofty ambition, but it is one that can be fraught with great sexual temptations.

      Noe Berengena There are good priests and bad priests. Priests are human beings, they are prone to fall into sin. They are the target of the devil bc the devil wants to destroy the Church. Temptations abound in the Church, that’s why we have a duty to pray and fast for the priests that they do not fall into temptation. Even Christ’s apostles have one bad apple while Christ was still with them. Judas was tempted to sell Jesus for 30 pcs of silver. Money and sex are lures used by the devil to tempt the servants of God. If a priest is not prayerful, doesn’t pray the rosary, doesn’t have the desire to immerse himself in the Blessed Sacrament, and doesn’t have the devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, chances are, this priest will easily fall into temptation. I am not talking of only the priests but also bishops, Cardinals, and even the Pope are targets of the devil. So let’s pray and fast for the good priests and pray for the conversion of the bad ones.

As you point out... human nature being what it is, everyone encounters temptations in life and it is very helpful to be vigilant. I don't know what your life has been like but some of us have actually met people who are close to being demonic. They disguise themselves as nice people but they are tied to evil things. I narrowly escaped with my life from great danger when I was working in Los Angeles. I tell people that it was nothing short of Divine Intervention that I drove to Oakland and was saved from certain death.

      Noe Berengena Evil indeed is real. God loves you personally and He definitely saved you from death. You may still have a mission in life to accomplish, ask God to reveal it to you. He is near to those who call upon him. The key to our Faith is our personal relationship with God. We develop this by spending more with the Lord in prayer, just like how we bond with friends and loved ones. If we have a personal relationship with God, He will reveal himself to us that nothing in this world can shake us. That’s why the Roman Catholic Church is the great vehicle to the Kingdom because the real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist can help us be intimate with God. Life is difficult but the grace of God makes it easier for us to handle any situation. That’s what’s wrong with the world now. People look outside for solution of our miseries when all we need to do is look inwardly to God in us bc He has all the answers, all the solutions. I highly recommend that you read a life of a great Saint a day or one a week. You will learn all of their struggles, but by the grace of God they remain joyful and hopeful amidst difficulties. I assure you that once you open up to God, He will fill you with His love and you too will experience the secrets of the saints. God bless🙏

    i hope no one ever accepts a teaching that an all loving god is forbidding them from loving who they love and being with them and doing with them whatever you both desire to do in the privacy of your own homes. You are valid, your feelings and partners and unions are valid, and a church that says otherwise isn't a church that should exist, and certainly not one that should claim to worship an all loving god.

      @@AL-sp2vq I dont know much about the episcopal church, but accepting Christians have a problem because they still proclaim to follow a very nonaccepting (to put it extremely politely) holybook. Ofcourse being philosophically inconsistent is an infinitely smaller problem then being homofobic, but its a problem none the less. If gays really want to be religious I would therefor recommend nonabrahamic religions- but that's ofcourse up to them

      @@tobak952 The episcopal church is almost the most liberal church in christianity. Is not literalist when it comes to the bible, performs gay marriages and has women priests. Although I don't identify as catholic anymore I appreciate that I had a very liberal priest growing up in my parish who would speak out against the church in his sermons on some issues, said gay marriage was ok when our state tried to ban it. He even compared our bishop to the pharisees.

    If gay people live a chaste life of loneliness doesn’t that mean a bunch of gay people just live lonely lives they could have been living together? Other LGBT issues aside, what’s the difference in society if these people live together in a monogamous union rather than living alone.

      I see what you mean but the point is to put everything below God. All marriages, family members, relationships are to take lesser importance to God. Chastity is asked of everyone whether single or married or being in a holy vocation. All sexual sins are to be avoided like masturbation, pornography, immoderate behavior, lusting after others and this applies to straight people as well. I am a single straight woman serving the church and a lot of people in our ministry are single and in their 30s or older. Some have homosexual desires too but as a group we try to remain as chaste as we can but I don't think we are a sad or lonely bunch. People equate being single with being lonely and think loneliness is like a lifetime's worth of despair or unfulfillment. I am lonely sometimes but it comes and goes like every other emotion. I see many people who live more unhappy and lonely lives being married even. I've also met nuns who are just so peaceful and joyous even if the pang of wanting motherhood looms above them sometimes. They find joy in suffering and they just have this peace that no problem can take away.

      Hey, @KinkyCaptionCrafter! I'm gonna answer from a perfectly non-believer point of view, though I'm interested in religious thinking.
      You don't need marriage to live a life without loneliness (and married people are often lonely, as a matter of fact); you just need love, closeness, touch, consideration from people you meet on a daily basis. Family in that matter is definitely a plus but sometimes you might not even have that foundation.
      Being gay and not following the monogamous relationship model that comes from the various monotheisms really is less a matter of lifestyle choice than a cultural way of living. Bear in mind that the gays are ostracized since their early youths. They do not grow up by a book or by any standard moral code. They are the craftsmen of their own lives; they always have been. The world is of no support to them, I tell you that by experience. The Bible, in that regard, is a true enemy.
      But, growing up, you manage to live in your society by your own moral standards. Sometimes, they're still close to what you, @KinkyCaptionCrafter yourself, experience (the idea of "chastity", or fidelity, monogamous relationship; but sometimes, it's quite different though the foundation is exactly the same one: "I'm in love with my man, but I can fuck whoever I want; in any case, I'm still faithful to the person I love, no matter what" -- that's what I experience in my daily life).
      Your question about society shouldn't have any kind of importance to any of us. We're just men and women, sometimes "sinners" if you go by the book. I mean, "sin" and "fault"... you don't know anyone telling you when you do one. We do know when we commit one. We don't need anyone to tell us about them; it's how we identify them, and it's how we know we were at fault. Texts do not tell us anything about that, they just tell us what people felt about what we just did at the time they wrote the texts. I guess you understand the problem around very old religious texts then.
      So, the idea is not to live "chaste" lives, I think (from a non-believer point of view) but to live good lives, lives that are good and true to the ones who will follow us. We can't be examples but maybe our lives will somehow be exemplary, to some extent, to the ones after us. That's what gathers believers and non-believers, I BELIEVE : the will to leave something better after our own time.
      So, stay out of idle lullabies but be good to everyone, including the people you think you might not like because of the texts of your faith. Jesus, as he said, did not come to preach for the ones who shall be saved; but to the ones he didn't think would be saved.

      Not necessarily. There are other ways to get out of lonliness than a sexual relationship. Often it's enough that you have good friends and a loving family. Same sex attraction isn't a sentence to be lonely and bitter. If anyone too experiences this: Cultivate friendships and familiar bonds, you don't have to stay completely alone just because you struggle with same sex attraction. These other, 'pure' relationships might even help you a lot with your struggly. If I was completely lonely, I might have already given in. But my family and friends give me the strength to go on.

    This is exactly where religious views on sex seem so antiquated. Isn't consensual pleasure an important part of the "for-ness" of the sexual impulse? Pleasure, just like procreation and bonding, is a part of sex's inherent nature, its "is-ness," to use Fr. Mike Schmitz's terms. Of course, consensual sex for pleasure can be taken to unhealthy extremes (and often is in our modern culture), but when it's used in moderation with a partner, it seems to me like the "is-ness" of sex isn't being violated, but actually honored. And to stay consistent with Fr. Mike Schmitz's analogy, enjoying the pleasurable aspects of sex or masturbation is not the same as using a chair as a cutting board or a place to chop wood.
    One note: I do think modern pornography, especially when violent or abusive, is a distortion of sexual pleasure. And it almost goes without saying, but of course, any sexual act that is not fully consensual is also a serious distortion of sexual pleasure. So it is necessary for us humans to have boundaries around sexual pleasure, but being overly boundary-ed (word?) and restrictive about the sexual impulse can also lead to egregious sexual behavior that is often hidden away.
    We still have so much to learn as a species about how to engage in a healthy way with our individual sexuality.

    Great presentation.
    When Christ instructed us to love our neighbor and to love our enemy His instructions indicated no male/female limitation. Love is not sex but above it. Love is an unconditional focus on the good of the other. Extramarital sex is rarely this.
    I love my father and a few mail friends - No sex required.

      Mail friends? Do they all work for the USPS? I am gay. I had a crush on a straight friend in college. I chose to love him selflessly. What makes you think gay people are so stupid or deprave that they don't already know this? My father hated me for being gay. He hated all gay men, and he was obsessed with the subject. He was the Christian example in my life. He kept that up until he died seven years ago.

      That was not of the lord, so you shouldn't thank him for it. Actually it's nothing to be thankful for, you wanted to be restored which is great, but in this moment of vulnerability, the enemy set up a trap and made you fall. That's how he works. Call upon the Lord, search a good community, go to counselling etc., so you can be set free again. It's never too late.

    I'm gay.
    I grew up in the church.
    I had to leave.
    Because the slow drip self reproach is corrosive and corrupting to the soul. And the apologists who overlook what it means to be sexually attracted to members of your own sex and what it means to be taught your capacity to feel and express romantic love constructively for another human being, is somehow wrong or ineffective, are deaf to their own tonelessness.
    The truth seems to be beyond them.
