    You got me with that giant "instruction book". I was wondering where you got it, and how I could get one, and then you pulled out the real instructions. I really wanted the coffee table size book.

      I live in Texas so...,
      I just figured out how to set the temp to F instead of that weird C, lol , set watch to temp, and pull out crown and turn and it changes to Fahrenheit, took me awhile to figure out, I may not be smart enough,
      Does that battery ever get to HIGH , mine seems stays on M

    • @Watch-Crazy
      @Watch-Crazy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's funny as mine arrived set to F and here in the UK we inevitably use C... Certainly don't doubt yourself, the GWG is one of the few G Shock that uses a crown to set things up, and in fact a fair few hardened G Shock collectors were confused with the button configuration as usually all G Shock manuals show A for adjust as the top left button, B can be for backlight and other functions top right, C for the different modes bottom left and D to change settings and other functions bottom right, however when this came out the top left was D for display, top right C for compass, bottom right B for barometer and A for altitude and other functions... So it confused the heck out of people.
      Yes mine is on H most of the time and here in the UK especially during winter we don't get that much sunlight, it can get dark from 3pm and usually it's raining in those months so lots of dark clouds during the day, but as long as you can get an hour or two of good daylight on those darker days it will still get fully charged. If you've got good clear sky's, stick the watch on a window sill facing the morning sun, so not too hot you don't want to overheat the watch, leave it there for about 40 minutes to an hour... if it's currently on M then it should get fully charged from that, and once fully charged depending on how often you use the compass and other labor intensive features like the backlight then it will likely stay on H for a few weeks or more!

    I looked long, and hard at the G-Shock lineup, and all the other watches seemed to be a lesser version of the GWG 1000. I had to have a JD made GWG 1000, with the hand made quality, and meticulous assembly that you can see, every time you push it's buttons, and watch it do it's thing. It always puts a smile on my face. The ONLY thing I would change is the screw-down crown, after seeing GWG 2000's knurled, stainless crown, I think it suits the 1000 better. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the crown it has, and pretty parts don't belong on a Mudmaster. I guess that's what started development of the GWG 2000. It all comes back to the GWG 1000, Ugly, but beautiful, tough as nails, and right down to business. I love it. I wouldn't change a thing.

      @@Watch-Crazy Thank you and since im for myself an bit Chunky the Watch im think suits me well. Im hope that im have done the right choice with this Model but to now the Watch feels just right on my Arm. Will see how it goes with sweat and Dirt. Do you might know if its an crucial misstake when Water hits the Watch and the Crown is not Screwed in?

    • @Watch-Crazy
      @Watch-Crazy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certainly nothing wrong with that, I obviously need to fill out to fit the watch better! You can't go wrong with it IMO it's pretty much perfect. Like all watches it does help the wrist get sweaty but no more than other G's and certainly better than leather...
      Yes make sure the crown is screwed in and don't press the buttons under water, it likely won't damage anything if you do accidentally press a button and if the crown isn't fully screwed in, obviously you don't need to tighten the crown beyond the resistance... But really the only G's you can confidently press the buttons of under water are the official diver versions which are cosc certified like the Frogman.
      If water gets in you will notice in no time as the display will cloud up with condensation. If it does don't worry as G Shock are excellent and will sort it out for you and many times if not too much work they will clean it up for free with a newer watch!

      realistically,. If I was a navy seal and needed a reliable watch I would get the 9400 over the GWG-1000 , it is lighter , easier to read , better time keeper and it is a fraction of the cost (seals dont make that much money) and if you lose it in a fire fight you wont think twice you will just get another one.
      so yeah the 9400 is a more practical watch . but we don't always buy watches out of being practical. watches is also jewelry . like you said. analog is pretty and classier, saphire glass .. and the build is better , you can tell they put better materials in it. but it is also heavier .. so yeah gwg-1000 is a grail watch for g shock lovers. like the frogmans.

    I think the battery issue is fairly redundant now with some of the Garmin models. They just brought out the Enduro which lasts up to 80 hours on GPS but 50+ days as a 'smart watch'. If you really are lost for that long I would just call it a day.

      I don't know if you were aware that the new version GWG 2000 is to be released next month, it was announced just days ago, however don't panic as other than the updated design which personally looks a mess and too busy, as few of the pattern/design cues marriage up, for example all of the buttons don't look right... It just doesn't look anywhere near as good (www.casio-europe.com/euro/products/watches/g-shock/gwg-2000-1a3er/ ) and the additional length of the end-links kind of ruins the balance of it visually on the wrist. Other than that nothing has changed though a different module number it's the same module and functions. I think as they eventually phase out the original model and these get harder to come by they will increase in value. Obviously I could be wrong but reading others comments on the new design the majority prefer the original...

    • @Watch-Crazy
      @Watch-Crazy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brian, that's a very good question and not a straightforward one to answer. The GG-1000 is a very cool watch and though similar in style to the GWG-1000, the GWG is noticeably bigger on the wrist so you may want to take that into consideration. If it's the features you are after and don't want to spend the hefty price tag then the GW-9400 is the way forward, more comfortable and very different visually from the other two though some people find the negative display version difficult to read. But having said all of that, you've only just replaced your battery for the next two years and though it took an hour to replace it shows its not really too big a deal to contend with, maybe buy a magnifying lens to help you next time (my eyes aren't what they used to be either...). If however it is the watch bug rearing it's buy another watch head, then the GWG is awesome I wholeheartedly recommend adding one to the collection, alternatively even when you find one at a good price you could buy two different great watches for the same money...
      It's definitely a difficult one..!! Nic

    Now... That's a wonderful looking watch.
    And it's one, that I've always stayed away. For one particular reason.
    Just don't get it.
    Why do they use this (type of) crown on some models? Does it have any advantages over keeping the adjust button pressed down for a few seconds?
    It's a mechanical / moving part that has more risk of failing.
    Additionally, everytime it is screwed back in, its seal / gasket / o-ring gets worn a little more.
    It's definitely more prone to failure than a simple push button (at least in my opinion).
    Is it just to be different or accentric or is there some practical reason that I'm failing to figure out by myself.
    Besides, I really find it harder to use, when I frequently need to set up count down timers, it really feels destructive when you have to pull, unscrew, use, push, screw back in several times a day.
    Most importanantly :) do they know, it makes me run away from that particular watch as if it's an appleWatch!!!

    • @Watch-Crazy

      Lol 🤣
      Thank you so much for your kind words and honesty!! And thanks to Mr Rangeman of course!
      Agreed, I don't know exactly why they chose this as the option/method, quite likely that it adds additional water and dust resistance, most dive watches have used this screw down gasket means of sealing watches for decades, well at least since Hans Wilsdorf bought the screw down crown patents off two friends in the 1924.
      It is definitely annoying, fortunately not something I will need to constantly use for my purposes, adjusting the declination...
      Love the watch and design so I can let it off for its pitfalls. Especially when you think I've spent a lot more money on Swiss watches in the past that have none of the greatness these have. Plus it's my first G-Shock, I don't currently have another to compare it to, yet 🙊 got the bug!
      The Apple watch though cool just doesn't have the robustness of the g shock I'd likely go for the Rangeman if I were heading towards a smartwear device personally.

      Hi George, good question! The all black version is very cool indeed! 👍 Unfortunately this is an issue with not just the GWG but many blacked out watches, I bought my dad a Glycine Combat Sub Stealth as a holiday/knock around watch and unfortunately he could only see the time in good lighting, it was/is pretty useless when the sun goes down... I ended up giving him another watch which he hasn't any trouble with and I now own that Glycine which was actually featured in this video, and it is predominantly my summer time daytime watch for good reason. However it's far more difficult to read than the GWG as the dial is less clear in the flesh, there is pretty much no lume and no anti-reflective coating, but it's still extremely cool and certainly doesn't put me off wearing it. That said I too would be quite keen to hear other blackout GWG owners views on this!

      Hi Vladimir, good question and one that regularly arises, if I'm to be honest I cannot say for sure. G Shocks go through a number of tests and I believe one of those is testing the buttons underwater, and they do use two O ring seals on each button which would certainly act well to protect from water penetration. But it is also likely that if the O rings become worn or the button is pressed at a particularly bad angle water could get in. So for piece of mind don't do it too often. Apart from that there doesn't seem to be any information in the manuals to suggest if you can, but it also doesn't say that you should not... So I'm guessing from that it shouldn't be a problem.

There were/are four things that I was unsure about, 1) the fact it has so many useful but battery draining features without tough solar, 2) the watch is made for the army, I can't see too many officers walking up to there colleagues in a hiding in the woods, machine guns and bombs going off around them, to say, "you won't believe this, I've walked over 10,000 steps today..." 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️3) the carbon fibre bezel insert, it's a couple of layers of sheet fabric that is usually used as the decorative layer on carbon car parts or watch dials, it doesn't, unless several layers deep have the strength of forged/moulded carbon fibre used in watch cases, so I can't see it being as robust. 4) styling, for me I just prefer the look of the GWG.
