    Excellent review. I love this watch but have an admittedly less functional GG-1000 but I got it because I love the dial design. Here's a tip for the temperature so you can get air temperature even while on the wrist! 1. When outside check the actual local temp with your phone. Keep the watch off your wrist for 15 mins to lose the body heat. If necessary calibrate it to the correct temperature. Put it on. After 15 mins it will have increased by the heat from your skin, usually you'll see a 7°c to 12°c increase depending on your skin temperature, this remains static unless you have a fever!. You take it off and recalibrate it by deducting your body temperature amount. Then when you wear it you have the correct air temperature! I did a few weeks ago and up to now it has been giving me an air temperature reading that's just about correct within a degree or two.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. Interesting tip but I suspect the range of body temp change will differ depending on the environment, so that might work for a specific range of temps but if people are in more extreme swings it probably will again be inaccurate.

    • @brianmsahin
      @brianmsahin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PerthWAtch Yes, maybe your right, it's winter here now, so the air has been cold, maybe it will change, but maybe not, after all, our body temperature does not change drastically, so the watch back can only heat up from your skin temperature which is likely constant as the watch will keep that patch of skin insulated against the outside temperature. Well, I'll see soon enough when the warm weather arrives. The main support to it working is that our body temperature does not change regardless of the outside temperature.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, somehow that doesn’t make logically sense to me. Well think of it this way… if the ambient temperature is actually about 38 degrees (approx 100 Fahrenheit) then having that correction factor would almost certainly make the reading inaccurate.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You miss the point mate - a thermometer is supposed to be able to account for changes in temperature, and not only be able to show one specific temperature correctly 😂

    • @brianmsahin
      @brianmsahin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PerthWAtch Yes, maybe it's true. I only know from actually checking the on wrist temperature here in Istanbul which is bloody cold right now at about +2°c that after I adjusted it and being outside my watch is showing +2°c to +3°c so for me that's accurate. Before it was showing +10°c on the wrist. Maybe that will change when we're back up to 35°c and more in the summer, but right now, the on wrist temperature still matches the actual outside temperature.

    I'm partly blind, and my GWG 10001A3's face is easy for me to read, the lum and light are great. They both function the same,, but I find the GWG 2000's face is a little harder for me to read. I also like the more rugged look of the 1000, and the case guard covers the buttons better. The screw crown on the 2000, being knurled, and steel has my vote, though. The GWG 2000 is definitely a more refined, polished Mudmaster, if you like that sort of thing, though I find it out of place, stuck in the mud.

    Differences between the GWG 1000 and 2000: world time cities are far more legible on the old watch (annoying as I have the new watch and my eyes are not that great anymore, otherwise I love it). Never been a fan of the really large G-Shocks particularly the Mudmaster series. But then again I neither have wrists like Arnold Schwarzenegger nor do I spend my weekends wrestling with wild dangerous animals in muddy swamps, so I guess they weren't created for me. As with any watch if you like no reason not to get it on your wrist and enjoy. Great thorough review

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Chris - I think the vast majority of users would never put a G-shock to its limits (in many cases the wearer would die before the watch stops working)… but some of functionality can come in useful, and certainly the looks play a part in the choice. The latter is probably what drives most G-shock purchase decisions these days…

  • @terrydavis1488
    @terrydavis1488 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The smaller face on the 2000 means numerals are smaller, and the World City Markers around the rim are barely visible. The biggest issue with nearly all G Shocks, is the poor digital readout. The alarms on G shocks are virtually useless. With all their technology and experience, you would think Casio could overcome these shortcomings. I had a watch 15 years ago with an alarm that really alerted you.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are the readouts poor even in all digital models? I thought they are fine. Negative LCD doesn’t lend well to easily readability though.
      I think the alarm might be deliberate… not so much intended or wake one up but rather serve as a reminder type of alarm… I’m sure they could make it louder if they wished.

    2000 is better , because:
    The GWG 2000 model contains a Forged Carbon part, especially the fenders (around the numbers 12 and 6, which are the most vulnerable to damage) and fairings that give it a Premium look, and is also the first G Shock to use a Forged Carbon part. The GWG 2000 also has improved vibration resistance, then the GWG 2000 model has a reinforced case with carbon fibers (Carbon Core Guard), it is more comfortable in the hand because it is smaller and lighter than the GWG 1000 model (because of the carbon). GWG 2000 have better Lume, better Illumination and another advantage of the GWG 2000 model is LED lighting, which is much brighter than on the GWG 1000.
    GWG 2000 have imporeved crown and buttons.GWG 2000 have better materials: Forged Carbon, SS,CCG vs plastic on GWG 1000.

      Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. I agree with most of what you listed there… but I didn’t find the lume or illumination any different. The buttons are also no better.
      2000 also has plastic… is forged which can be prone to scratch better on a G-shock? The traditional resin serves well in resisting this, so arguably is better.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really… the first thing that will get hit if you accidentally bang the watch against a surface is not the steel bit

    • @jonatansterling397
      @jonatansterling397 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Anyway the new GWG 2000 steel ring bezel is more vulnerable getting scratch or defect by gravels or hoggin compared with the old GWG 1000 bezel. So my opinion the old GWG 1000 is still the real mudmaster 😄👍

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most G-shock models use mineral glass which can certainly scratch up.
      What is “hoggin”??

    • @jonatansterling397
      @jonatansterling397 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hoggin is rough sand. Gravel is small stones. How the SHINY METAL RING BEZEL in Gwg-2000 can stand those materials which are usually found together in the mud. Don't you think the old Gwg-1000 is tougher ?

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In my experience, steel scratches when you hit it, such as banging a watch against a table or door frame. If it is sand rubbing against a watch when you roll in it, that’s less problematic. Keep in mind also that the resin can definitely scratch up. Overall the GWG 2000 may be slightly more prone to scratches on that bezel, but I think that’s marginal and shouldn’t make it the deciding factor

      Buy 2 or more and have a collection
      Also, that strap lasts a long time, I don't think you should be worried. I always had G Shocks and the strap was still in prefect condition while be bezel started to have marks on it because of how many times I hit a wall. I am not sure why would you need a strap for, maybe in 10 years. I am sure by them you'd be selling it for a new G Shock that you like at that point. These watches last forever and the strap is the last one you should be worried about. The first marks you'll have and signs of wear will be on the watch itself. The strap is made of durable resin plastic and unless you take a knife and try to cut it or make some marks on it, it will last forever. Even so, let's say you have a mark on your strap after some years. I am sure you can find a replacement and in the worst case scenario, you can find tutorials online and you can fix the strap with a lotion you can buy online. It covers scratches and cuts. As for the watch in the video, it's a solid watch. Once you have it on your wrist you love it. It's really solid and you can tell it comes with sapphire. It has a fantastic aspect and feels very solid and well built

      @@PerthWAtch i never had that issue. I had a G Shock for 4 years and I had no issues with the strap. I guess it depends on how many times you put it on and off. If you remove it every day for a few years I guess it will eventually break. I just leave my watch on

      Casio quotes that the watch will run for six months of pretty moderate usage without charging.
      It will take 8 minutes of direct sunshine, or about an hour in a well lit room, to charge one day's worth of runtime.
      The total service life of the battery isn't given, just "if it seems to run down too fast, get the battery replaced."
      Anecdotally, my WVA-470, which has a similar solar charging design, still gives satisfactory operation after over 15 years.

      Sorry to say, it doesn’t sound like you understand the idea of this watch. It’s for outdoor situation where practical tools for survival/navigation are needed. Self sufficient with solar power. You can’t do a pedometer in such watches as it sucks up too much power, although I agree that sunrise/sunset is handy.
      You gotta be kidding thinking something like that Garmin is the way - a watch you gotta keep recharging and syncing with another device, seriously? Ask a Navy SEAL if they give a toss about their step count in the field 😂

      @@PerthWAtch i was in military service and on missions, and i tested mudmaster gg-b100, a good watch, i also tested gwg 2000, and its just disappointment for that money, and i tested the tactix7 pro - the tactix7 is the only one that really meets the requirements in military use counts and for OUTDOOR and outdoor training. Maybe you're just a Casio fanboy, its ok - but you have to accept others reviews and testing from other people who really test such a watch outdoors, in combat and for outdoor training, and the casio is just a wannebe. And yes, a Navy SEA wants to know pedometer, next sunrise, hearthrate, energy-level, weather and NEXRAD and gps coordinates, and the Tactix7 has with 1 month power absolutly no problem. But ok, if you need a "forged carbon" brezel" and blinding/deezling light for your outdoor trip - fine! :-)
