A lot of these "virtual friends" I've met in real life, and are now some of my best friends. The ignorance is real. People fear the unknown.

Well no shit we think the characters are real, HOWEVER that doesn't mean that we're delusional. It is true that some people have trouble separating games from reality, but as it is with everything in life - you need to play in moderation.

I'm so happy I was introduced to gaming at a young age. Because now it's pretty much my life. I started playing at the age 5 or so, and that game was Left 4 Dead. Close to 10 years of my passion! Btw great video and hope people will actually acknowledge gaming is a sport.

I don't see how it's bad. I mean in some cases you have to be born and train a lot to be an athlete. Some people with disorders or weight problems can turn to gaming for a sport career. It opens up jobs and new possibilities while giving even the most unfit people a chance in fame and competitive challenges against others.

This sport is as peaceful as it is a sport. People just judge because they never played it. This is a interactive medium. People won't understand it if they are never using it. And driving a golf caddy and let someone else carry your bag is in my opinion just a obscure tradition of some rich guys. To the people that say it isn't exhausting: First: It is. Playing two Best of 5 back to back on a stage in front of a yelling crowd is tiring. Second: Chess is considered as a sport. The moves are exactly the same as in eSports: Moving a hand while sitting on a chair.
I hope some day CS:GO and other games will be accepted and people rethink their sometimes stupid statements as shown in this video.

in most countries it will take a lot of time because of people who doesn't open their eyes to new ideas , the problem is that US and Europe are full of those kind of people. One time I was watching League of Legends' eSports using a TV in my living room as a monitor and my parents said something like "This isn't real sport" , so I replied "At least it's more entertaining than football".
Oh and also you can notice that people like this are the same that acts in racist and homophobical ways.

The problem is, they are so ignorant because one, they don't have any knowledge of what a gamer or a video game actually is, two, these kinds of people think they are know at alls and see it as an addiction.

But a serious addiction is where you spend ALL OF YOUR TIME. I repeat, ALL OF YOUR TIME playing a video game, sitting there on your ass, not caring about the people around you, not standing up once, drinking energy drinks which by the way, all are extremely bad for your health. That is how I see a gaming addiction. A gamer like me, I prefer to be physical and active, it's just my social life is difficult, suffering with Autism and Learning Difficulties, I use gaming as a way to meet new friends and improve on socializing which I struggle with.
Gaming is my way to waste time too. I don't just game though, sitting at a computer doesn't mean that you're gaming, a lot of people get that wrong sometimes. I also write stuff (Fiction, speeches, messages), draw artwork, edit videos, modify/write scripts for games (Source games, using configs to create my settings) and outside of that is a lot more.
You know what a bad parent is? a parent who says "Games took my child's life" when really, they were not controlling their child correctly. If a child actually died playing a game non-stop and the parents blame the game for that. They are only using it as an excuse to not get the blame.
It is a stupid world we live in. British teens grow up to be girls with no knowledge of anything. Whilst gamers usually end up with good knowledge.

My best friend happens to be one I spend a lot of time online with. Yes, I originally met him in person, but we didn't become solid friends until we started playing video games together. We literally grew up playing what we loved together despite only seeing each other in person maybe once a year. I've spent over half of my life being friends with him and we've helped each other through some pretty tough s**t. Idk what I'd be like if I didn't have his influence and companionship for these last 10ish years. Literally, if I didn't have video games to play with him we likely wouldn't be anywhere near as close as we are now or maybe we wouldn't even have stayed friends. But video games have been a blessing for our friendship and has been a wonderful way to bond together. Anybody who says online friends aren't real friends clearly doesn't understand the core of what being friends mean. It means sticking through thick and thin, growing a mutual respect, understanding, and compassion for each other. It means helping unconditionally. All of which can be done with online friends. So please, if you don't believe online friends are real friends then reevaluate what you truly appreciate about with your friendships and ask yourself, "Are penpals real friends?" You likely rarely meet them in person, but still can maintain a strong connection with them despite living across the globe. Clearly, visual and/or physical contact isn't necessarily for friendship, so stop pretending it does. And as for the anonymity, I understand why that should be a concern, but consider how 2 people who met online were to begin a friendship in the first place. You're not going to just become friends with any rando you come across. Just like in real life, it takes trust and respect to spark a friendship. It's no different online.

Oh, gosh. I seriously couldn't stop laughing at the first part of the video. It's so ridiculous how people judge the eSport scene or gaming in general after reading one article about. It's the fuckin' media, what do you think?! I mean who wants to read an article when the title says "People enjoy video gaming more today", no, nobody, they write articles that sound appealing such as "Kid played GTA for 10 hours later found guilty for murder", what people don't think about is that, that is one guy out of like 500 million or more that play video games. Esport is everything that a traditional sport is, love, sweat and tears. Esport forever!

Some of my best friends have been met through online. They have always been there when I needed them the most, I have cried to them when I went through break ups, friend's deaths, and hard times. Now my group of 5 friends are packing up and going to ESL together, and I'm even moving in with one of my "Not real" friends. They are and will always be my friends.
asking the real question here. why do esports need the any approval? it is already more successful than any other "sports" out there. esports has more fan base and more loyal and pro tourny winnings are so huge that it does not even compare the "real sports". i only benefit i see on getting approval here is athlete visa and getting spots on ESPN. cable TV is a dying industry so why bother with the latter. these debate about if eSports considered as real sport or not. my answer is does it matter.

Type definition of sport. It pretty much will give you something like this: An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. This is sports. E-Sports is exactly the same thing without "physical exertion". Everything else is there.
Personally I hate people who act like these people on the video. Usually I won't talk with them about the topic, because every time they just think they are right without understanding shit or they don't want to understand. It is like talking to a rock.
If you don't like to watch E-Sports then go watch your boring golf matches. I don't give a single fuck and so won't many other people.

The first part was so relatable! My parents have believed my entire life that video games cause people to rage and hurt other people. All they say is "So your shooting people and you enjoy it?".

Wow OKAY naw it has to do with girls not being able to play at a guys level so why would guys pick up a girl when all dudes at high level will be better than a girl? and girls that play and are on a sponsored team say they are pros, but they dont play any high level CSGO teams they are usually stuck in IM or Main and never get out but then complain about not being able to play with dudes but the tournaments dont have a gender rule but girls cant play at the level on Fnatic,Envyus,TSM,C9. so i think that why people get mad about female teams
in 30 years it will be like: ''Children these days don't play enough video games, they think that the people they meet in school are their real friends! But they don't know them, those people can act like anyone they want to be!''

I'm so glad my parents see videos is just like any other activity you do in your spare time, just like going to a park. Your never gonna get a job for pissing around in a park but you have a chance to make it as a gamer. These old people that hate on it are just more scared of it than anything else.

I have the blessing of parents who realize that I could either be out with people who I don't know drinking and getting high, but I'd rather be playing video games at home and having fun with my friends.
The thing I'll never get is how people like my parents can come home from work, sit in front of the tv while browsing facebook and playing mobile games on their tablets, never saying a word to each other, but I'm "antisocial" for going online, forming friendships with people who share my interests and enjoying a hobby that *could* one day evolve into a career.

Older generation / our parents doesn't understands Esport / Computer game because they have not experienced it. History shows that Humans are afraid of change . And this is a big big change. It's like rock and roll . Olders didn't support it first as they thought It'll corrupt young minds. They want what's good for us - at least what they think is good for us. It's okay . We just have to keep things in balance until we grow up - have a life of our own.
One thing is certain, no matter what they does, our older generation cannot stop it . Esports and Gaming will continue to grow - it's the future. . When we have our own children , they will not face the same situation like us - 'cause we will understand..

I've made real friends through gaming who i never met in real life until we ended up meeting in real life. also made friends who i just met instantly through both enjoying the same game. its like any other sport, a social thing
