Just completed my wheel bearing. It took an hour and a half to get the old bearing out. It took another 30 minutes cleaning up all the tools I pulled out to get the thing off. But alas job complete. I feel very accomplished now. Thanks Chris! Couldn't have done it without you

Doing this for the first time at work. My boss showed me how to take it off and I’m on lunch break watching this as I’m putting it back on after this. Love your videos❤
Chris, My son's friend is a professional mechanic for over 30 years, he told me the best way to remove the hubs on my Jeep liberty is to leave the bolts in about 5-6 threads and use the same socket with a short extension on it and place it on the hub bolts line it up and use the power steering rack to remove the hub easy peasy, it popped it right out, no beating your brains out. The simplest thing I have ever done. Just thought it would be a good content Video for you. :)
Definitely the way it goes. Let me tell you, one time I was with a couple friends(years ago), and we were trying to do something on the car (I think replace CV), but it required removing axle nut. We had breaker bar and cheater pipe, but it wouldn't budge. We tried air-powered impact wrench, and it still wouldn't budge. I finally had the idea to take it to the nearby semi-truck workshop and ask them to use their crazy huge impact to remove it. The guy was hesitant because he didn't want to be liable for damage (could've easily destroyed the thread, but we were getting desperate). It finally came off (with an impact that produces somewhere in the 1500-2000 lbs-ft of torque, at least). That was the craziest one I ever had to deal with.
Must say I never changed brakes before until I saw your video, now its brakes, brake calipers and what ever else I'm comfortable doing and its cheaper then going to the service garage. Great video's. If my friends get in a bunch, I will recommend them to check out you vides.
Thank you so much for this. I have a 2018 Ford F150 V6 3.3L 4x2. I had my right side done by a shop, cost me $600. I did the left side following your video. The part cost $250.91 plus tax from Ford dealer. You saved me a lot of money!! Thanks ChrisFix!!
I own a Honda, but I stay up past my bedtime watching these videos of Chris. I probably won’t use them, but It’s nice 👍🏽 to have familiarity of repair🤗.
One trick I found was to put one hub assembly bolt back on and tighten it about 3/4 of the way. Once there just get an air hammer and hammer that bolt and it will push the assembly out. This technique has save me several times and it's a lot less exhausting then beating the assembly over and over. That and some good penetrating oil does wonder. Love your videos by the way, thank you for making them.
I was laughing my butt off at 8:15 when you started adding more windows trying to get the bearing out. That's exactly what would happen to me but you explain so well how to do these repairs. Thank you Chris for all your DIY video's.
I just want to say I'm a 38-year-old woman that knows nothing about cars. I have just started a new job so I have had to wait to get paid, which means I don't have much money. With your instructions, I was able to save myself a ton of money. Thank you so much for what you do.
Nice video, I fixed the rear wheel bearing for my own car. It was easy to fix and took me 30 minutes to fix. It was hard to disassemble some components because it was rusty but after beating it with a hammer a couple times the components came off :D
I have been doing a lot of maintenance on my truck this past year and it’s so great that every time I look up a video for help, you have one already posted. Thank you for your help!
It’s not really about satisfaction but rather it is frustrating knowing you can break a bolt or letting it become loose if you don’t use a torque wrench. It is really not a good feeling when you know you can increase the reliability of a work performed on a car by using torque wrench, and somebody just doesn’t so it. I no longer send my car to any car repair shop for any work, no matter how big or small, it’s too much of a frustration knowing that the more you send your car to a shop the more your bolts are gonna be tightened to a different spec than it’s supposed to, or even gone missing.
My vehicle was making an abnormal noise from the front wheel and I came to your channel first to figure out the problem. I have watched a lot of your videos to help me with my car problems. Thank you and keep up the informative videos. 🤙
Dude you are a blessing. Your videos have helped me, and thousands of others be able to learn and work on our own vehicles. Love all your videos. Thanks brother.

you should watch all his videos, man. th best way to know if your car will last for a long time and be realiable , is that if you are putting your hands to fix it. Most places will use cheap methods to fix and do maintenance on your car, and that with time can damage your car and make you lose money on a long term.
I’m currently watching this video to prep myself for replacing my front wheel bearing on my Ford F-150. The way you’ve explained it makes it seems so much more manageable than what it seems in my head. I’ll update once I replace it and let y’all know how it went.
Chris fix a literally been watching for a year I'm 14 years old and I've learned so much from you and I love what I do fix cars at a local shop as I work there and help other people need with their cars it's a pretty great job thank you for creating this channel @ChrisFix
+Antreas Cy 3:25 killer trick if not using an impact, or working alone with no one to push the brakes for you to hold the rotor. As the transmission will still allow a single axle to turn with enough force even though it is in park.
Tell you a trick guys, when you are trying to remove the old bearing assembly, leave the bolts attached several turns, and use a hammer to tap on the bolt heads to drive the bearing off. I learned this trick from the Audi repair manual on how to replace an alternator. The alternator is notoriously hard to remove, because nobody bothered to read the repair manual, lol.
Nice video, The one I like the most is your mind safety. Keep the good work sure there a lot of people like me get help with ur videos. I am now going to replace the front bearing of my S60 Volvo R. Thanks again.
The fact that my car can have whatever problem that im sure i just can open youtube and you will show me how to do it. I havent had my car in a garage this year and you just saved me a looot of money my friend. We are all very thankful for you job and as many others already saif we hope that you make a good living out of it 👏👏👏👍
+Arcon911 - Wow, I got mine locally for less than $80 each including the spindle nut and they are OEM branded. Mine don't have ABS sensors at the hub though so I guess they are cheaper.
One thing I always do. Tip for anyone. When I’m working on tires, on a hoist or jack stands. I always tighten the bottom lug-nut first. Prevents tire from popping out
Great video. One suggestion, put a rag over the axle splines when you remove rust from the mating surface of the steering knuckle to keep dirt and rust off the half-axle. I like it that you put anti-seize grease on mating surfaces before re-assembly.
I never go to the dealer, but since it is close I went in this week for my yearly inspection, they failed my inspection because of a front wheel bearing and quoted me 500 dollars for the part alone. Guy at the service desk offered to print me the part number when I mentioned I'd replace it myself, he gave me the part for a Dodge Neon! I drive a Ram 1500 for crying out loud! I've found good deals on the replacement part and I'm going to replace it myself, then have someone else most likely do the inspection, so I don't get rejected again! Only trouble is I can't figure out whether I have 2 wheel or 4 wheel abs sensors, I can't find any wires going to the front wheel bearings, but I'm yet to get the seized up brake caliper bracket bolts out. Hopefully I figure this out soon.
I wish now I had watched this video first. It really was one of the best ones I've seen. now I'm stuck with a seized bearing, having to work around not popping the axle through first. Thanks Chris that was the best walkthrough of all I've watched.
Friend: hey can you help me I don't know how to replace (part their trying to fix.?) Me: yeah I'll be over soon I know how to do it. Also me: TH-cam search of (Chrisfix how to....) I love your videos! I always look up your videos to make sure I'm doing the job right. You're like a DIY online mechanic. #1 TH-cam Mechanic!
A tip to break the hub free, is to remove two of the wheel studs, one each side, and insert hardened bolts from the front. Put a nut behing each, put a spanner on the nut and tighten the bolt. You've basically made a puller that is acting on the hub/knuckle casting. Yes you will get two small marks on the casting from the bolts bearing against it, but it won't be a problem. Saves a heck of a lot of beating. The bolts must be hardened, otherwise you'll just strip the threads of the bolt off. I also coat the bolts with a smear of moly lithium grease.
I use this video to convince my wife why I prefer to do the work myself. After I try to tell her that professional mechanics don't care about how long your repair lasts, this video totally convinces her.
I wish every mechanic, amateur and professional, would take the time to watch your videos. You are a natural teacher with clear instruction and great visual assist.

Thankfully he got to hit something without it being a bad thing
Thanks ChrisFix!!
that hammer Montage was epic lol, almost woke my kids up 😂
lol
Saved $540 just by watching this video 👌
+Bob Saget AWESOME!!!!
8:13 to 8:28. Loved that sequence!! Thanks for showing that even the pros have challenges! Thanks ChrisFix!
thank you so much. You empowered this grandmother!!! I replaced my own brakes and will be doing my own wheel bearing soon.
Nice
I was laughing my butt off at 8:15 when you started adding more windows trying to get the bearing out. That's exactly what would happen to me but you explain so well how to do these repairs. Thank you Chris for all your DIY video's.
I just want to say I'm a 38-year-old woman that knows nothing about cars. I have just started a new job so I have had to wait to get paid, which means I don't have much money. With your instructions, I was able to save myself a ton of money. Thank you so much for what you do.
Thanks for sharing
Nice video, I fixed the rear wheel bearing for my own car. It was easy to fix and took me 30 minutes to fix. It was hard to disassemble some components because it was rusty but after beating it with a hammer a couple times the components came off :D

Guy: What kind of music do you listen to?

Your mechanic DIY videos are the best out there. You've helped me many times, thank you!
I have been doing a lot of maintenance on my truck this past year and it’s so great that every time I look up a video for help, you have one already posted. Thank you for your help!
Glad the videos are helpful!
U are a master at getting the best camera angles. Thanx chrisfix!
Agreed. Was thinking the same thing.
Who is here from the April fools video?

There’s something so satisfying about the click of a torque wrench when you reach the proper ft lbs.
Like ASMR
Indeed
It’s not really about satisfaction but rather it is frustrating knowing you can break a bolt or letting it become loose if you don’t use a torque wrench. It is really not a good feeling when you know you can increase the reliability of a work performed on a car by using torque wrench, and somebody just doesn’t so it. I no longer send my car to any car repair shop for any work, no matter how big or small, it’s too much of a frustration knowing that the more you send your car to a shop the more your bolts are gonna be tightened to a different spec than it’s supposed to, or even gone missing.
@@davidgruen7423 Ya I could definitely agree with that. I’d say both are true
Let me tell ya about a recent video...
My vehicle was making an abnormal noise from the front wheel and I came to your channel first to figure out the problem. I have watched a lot of your videos to help me with my car problems. Thank you and keep up the informative videos. 🤙
lmao when he went to the quad screen of him beating the hub I was rolling😂😂😂
Dude you are a blessing. Your videos have helped me, and thousands of others be able to learn and work on our own vehicles. Love all your videos. Thanks brother.
Thanks! I'm happy you have found the videos to be helpful!
If my dad weren't a mechanic you would be my go to guy for car repair vids
From this guy I learn how to changed the brakes rotors sparks plugs control Arms wheel bearing shocks axle oil changed I just need to learn how to change others stuff I’m great full this guy take to teach people because you save a lot of money from mechanics I hope this man achieve a lot on his career munch love
That is the goal! I am glad the video was helpful!
Did you forget to re install that splitring / metal clip on the axle nut cover?
Loved the hammering compilation :D
Azurren cotterpin?
xX_VEN1X_Xx no. centercap snap ring
The ring goes on the cap before u install it.. So he might have just missed recording that part
Azurren This video would be way too long if all of the common sense steps weren't edited out.
windfreak33 lol
I don't even own a car why am i binge watching these
Same lol
English
haha same!
Same! I swear it's his voice.
you should watch all his videos, man. th best way to know if your car will last for a long time and be realiable , is that if you are putting your hands to fix it. Most places will use cheap methods to fix and do maintenance on your car, and that with time can damage your car and make you lose money on a long term.
Thank you for showing the reassembly. I don't like videos that just say put it back in reverse order.
I’m currently watching this video to prep myself for replacing my front wheel bearing on my Ford F-150. The way you’ve explained it makes it seems so much more manageable than what it seems in my head. I’ll update once I replace it and let y’all know how it went.
How did it go?
Chris fix a literally been watching for a year I'm 14 years old and I've learned so much from you and I love what I do fix cars at a local shop as I work there and help other people need with their cars it's a pretty great job thank you for creating this channel @ChrisFix
screwdriver in the brake rotor trick = genius!
+hallis1 what minute and second?
Made that comment 5 months ago. Don't remember where exactly. just watch the whole video it's worth it.
hallis1 ok mate :)
I used this trick before...once the axle nut was on sooo tight that the screwdriver bent under the brakes lol
+Antreas Cy 3:25 killer trick if not using an impact, or working alone with no one to push the brakes for you to hold the rotor. As the transmission will still allow a single axle to turn with enough force even though it is in park.
"This really does not want to come off!!! Time to get serious!"
*Hammer whacking intensifies*
and lets get a beat going!
*Hammer whacking and torch roaring*
This guy is literally responding to comments on an 8 year old video. Mad respect
Well done as always ... and now I understand why the cost and labor behind the work.
Thanks!
Hello Chris fix your help me build my car that I bought from a junkyard and I'll make a video about my car to show you that it does work
ChrisFix hi, what kind of obd2 scanning tool is that?

That hammering compilation at like 8:15 is crazy when you're high

175 dislike is motor shop owner that think this video reduce their income LOL
Because it did... just did mine for 150 they charged my buddy for the same car 400
USD $ 150 ????
+Dante hollow yep. $99 for the assembly (rockauto.com) , $25 for the spindle nut (ford dealership price ), $10 for the socket, $15 in miscellaneous.
+Arcon911 - Wow, I got mine locally for less than $80 each including the spindle nut and they are OEM branded. Mine don't have ABS sensors at the hub though so I guess they are cheaper.
True XD hahaha
Young man you make my back hurt just watching.
really can't say enough how useful and well made these videos are. Clear, thorough, interesting, and you teach not just instruct.
One thing I always do. Tip for anyone. When I’m working on tires, on a hoist or jack stands. I always tighten the bottom lug-nut first. Prevents tire from popping out
Thanks for sharing!
Lmaooo the "stealership" 😂😂
+Jayy023 true story though lol
+Jayy023 The term "STEALERSHIP" is very fitting, trust me!
i like your vids, i dunno why people put a thumbs down to your videos
Dealerships and Auto repair places probably
Haters gonna hate as they say. As long as I am helping people and you guys are enjoying the videos, the .1% of the thumbs down keep me motivated haha
Friend: hey can you help me I don't know how to replace (part their trying to fix.?)
Me: yeah I'll be over soon I know how to do it.
Also me: TH-cam search of (Chrisfix how to....)
I love your videos! I always look up your videos to make sure I'm doing the job right. You're like a DIY online mechanic. #1 TH-cam Mechanic!
I always look for this guy when I'm looking for how to solve an issue on my car, hasn't failed yet! It's nice how he actually explains what and why.
Yup done this a load of times over the years, Liked
A tip to break the hub free, is to remove two of the wheel studs, one each side, and insert hardened bolts from the front. Put a nut behing each, put a spanner on the nut and tighten the bolt. You've basically made a puller that is acting on the hub/knuckle casting. Yes you will get two small marks on the casting from the bolts bearing against it, but it won't be a problem. Saves a heck of a lot of beating. The bolts must be hardened, otherwise you'll just strip the threads of the bolt off. I also coat the bolts with a smear of moly lithium grease.
Excellent video. Thank you for showing the back of the assembly.
Glad the video was helpful!

Hey you so cool Bro I like cars give me im want to test drive
I use this video to convince my wife why I prefer to do the work myself. After I try to tell her that professional mechanics don't care about how long your repair lasts, this video totally convinces her.
that hammering montage had me on the floor lol. You sounded so done with this car for the rest of the video after hahaha.
Protip: Sit on your hand so it falls asleep, then it'll feel like someone else is using the slide hammer
for how long? dont want to be completely numb
