Nice video! If you labelled which exhaust as the video progressed , it would be easier. I have AWE so I could tell. One big improvement is the AWE doesn’t have the annoying drone at about 2.5k rpm. My brother has the q300 on his sti and it could be annoying at times. I love the sound of the r400 though!
Ah the video has timestamps so thought wasnt worth the extra effort lol. And yeah I mentioned in the description that is hands down the best part of the AWE. I am going to a bigger turbo build an am changing to equal length headers, really hoping the drone doesnt come back with a vengeance 😭
@@blueeyesstiyeah sorry I just noticed the time stamps. Which turbo are you going with? I will eventually go either BCP x500 or EFR7163. I love the rumble too much to go ELH to be honest 😅 Also, if you’re curious after downpipe, ELH and AWE touring, check out scoobyfreak86. He’s posted videos of his setup with 1.5xtr. Sounds good!
@@WazzA-xp7zz so yeah i went with the blouch 1.5xtr 10cm as well. I don't want to push this motor too hard going for like a close to/slightly stronger than s209 type of build. Want pull to redline and i wanna preserve the low end as much as possible. I see those seem like some big turbos 😅 are those stock location? Yeah ive definitely seen his vids. The only thing I dont like is the slight raspiness/what seems to be some extra drone. But i guess gotta make compromises sonewhere. The killerb header is definitely thinner than say the ets header and also uses a SS that is alloyed with titanium so thats where some tinniness/rasp can get through. I am actually also staying stock downpipe for emissions purposes, especially on these 19+ cars. I think equal length headers sound great and have a decent amount of rumble too. People dont realize this isnt an FA where the equal lengths are truly equal as the turbo sits front and center so the exhaust gasses flow exactly the same way and same length into the turbo. Because of the boxer layout and location of the turbo on these cars, the exhaust gasses wont flow in a symmetrical manner, and even the piping will ever so slightly have to be different lengths, i believe this is the case mainly in the collector for the killer b. Ets also makes a good header and ive seen vids where that one has a decent amount of rumble too. People also say unequal length is inefficient on these cars when its actually the shortest piping header and most efficient in terms of cost, material, and weight and low end torque, because of the layout and stock turbo. The turbo is designed for midrange (whereas the FA is for low end), but to makeup for the lowend they place it much closer to the intercooler to reduce lag, and hence the header design. Even twin scroll turbos dont perform as well as single on these cars. I find it hella cringe when I see unequal lengths created for other cars, like the FA motors, where they unecessarily increase the length of the piping on one side. It's definitely a unique design for the STI motor and its layout. Even the new m3s have unequal length design. But yeah nothing wrong with staying unequal length its good design for this motor, esp stock, and probably up to 400 whp ish (id prob do the cylinder 4 cooling mod in those cases). But if you want big power and want to be as safe as possible maybe the ETS will serve you better, seems to have more rumble as they even advertise that its not fully equal length. I do like that killerb gives the coated option as there is no heat shield on these aftermarket headers. Hopefully I like it enough that I don't switch back to the OEM headers loll
Awe is definitely quiter inside at normal speeds. Bout the same loudness when you get on it. The boominess of the r400 honestly makes it annoyingly loud and the car much less comfortable. Awe is purely rumble
@@blueeyessti thanks, I’ll give it a shot. I was looking for quieter at cruising rpms without sacrificing too much WOT. I am fully built though, so it might still be super loud
@@JaeCi-sh6fx I just went to ELH and an upgraded turbo build last week. It is definitely louder inside, but definitely still quieter than the r400 even when stock. For you it will definitely be loud but still believe much quieter and more comfortable than the r400. Really enjoyed the no drone aspect prior to ELH, but it has definitely returned, about 30% of the drone the r400 had around 2.5k rpm. Surprisingly the drone is actually still not there at and above 3k, where the drone was unbearable at 3k with the r400. Thinking of adding a different resonator to try and fully get rid of it again, or atleast quiet it down some
@@JaeCi-sh6fx sounds like a fun time. I just went to a blouch 1.5xtr. Powerband is definitely weird its pretty laggy till 4k. Feel like these cars were meant to be quick with a wide powerband
Yeah it definitely depends on your taste. Personally I love the AWE. So that weird squeak is actually my intake haha (Cobb Redline). You can hear it on the R400 at WOT as well but it sounds sharper with the AWE. I did find it weird that it sounded "sqeakier" and thought it could be exhaust leak or something, but don't seem to have any leaks. It also could just be the exhaust settling in and the pipes needing to expand a little. But I've seen other AWE exhaust videos with intakes on different cars and it sounds very similar.
