- Changed up my exhaust again....
I first had a nameless catback (see my other videos). Ultimately it got too loud and obnoxious.
Then I moved to a Q300.... too quiet...
Now to an R400 which is perfect... :)

I just got a used 2020 STi and it came with what it seems to be a q300 judging by the big muffler cases and it sounds way raspier and deeper tone than this one. I love the sound!
That’s awesome! Maybe the previous owner moved the resonator? Regardless glad you love the new ride.
@@properbuild9748 probably I took it to the Subaru dealer to get it inspected but they must have not paid attention to that. Haven’t looked under really since it’s low but I’m gonna assume it is the resonator. I’m just happy it came with it and the sound is perfect for daily use!
Sweet champ...R400 it is mate! From down under ....PeAcE...
Currently have the Q300 installed I like it but about to switch to the R400. Like the sound better. I also have a hole in my flex pipe and they won't sell me just the mid pipe. Which sucks but gives me an excuse to slurge on the r400. If it wasn't I would just order the cat back set. But now I can't have to get the whole system. Q300 has a nice rumble to it though. R400 has a cleaner tighter look though. I'm def gonna make the switch I like the deeper sound on the r400 regret getting g the q300 a little. Mine had a small rattle aswell.
How did you go with the r400… any louder?
@@drew8732 Have had the R400 for about a year now and i LOVE it! Not as crazy as straights but definitely deepens the Subi Rumble. Add in a Downpipe and its orgasmic!
R400 is the best . Heart sound 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼 enough loud and not aggressive
I agree. Not obnoxious. Just right! 👍🏾
Nice vid! I used to have the Q300 paired with the grimmspeed downpipe. Now i have the Tomei and it sounds soo good!
vinhgeta thanks. I hear Q300 gets some life with a DP. Was it catted? Tomei is 🔥🔥
I'm still rocking this combo. 🤙
Nice! I have 19' WRX and i went from a Nameless axleback with 4" mufflers to a Q300. Bought both of them used for great deals. Nameless was too loud, Q300 is too quiet.
Yea, if you check out one of my older videos I had a nameless catback as well.... same reasons to damn loud and annoying... then Q300 was too damn quiet... Now R400 is perfect!
Synzey if I had a DP and don’t want obnoxious loud stick with Q300. I hear it really opens up when paired with a Downpipe. Goodluck!
Just came across this video. I have the q300 and I can confirm that is really opens up with a downpipe. It was too quiet before but now with the downpipe it’s a little louder
@@properbuild9748I have the q300 with dp and it sounds incredible and little to no drone. I wouldn’t change a thing
Thank you for the time disclaimer. 👌
my q300 seems louder, what you running for downpipe? been thinking of getting a new exhaust but i picked up the q300 mad cheap used. I have a catless invidia dp so may be why mine seems a tad bit louder. I like that it is quiet and discreet when needed and can be get loud when you get on it. the N1 and the q400 are two im looking at next possibly.
Thanks for the comparison. I have the R400 on my 15' STI and I'm looking at changing it to the Q300, its horrible to live with everyday if you commute on the highway .. SO much drone
I don’t commute much so I found the Q300 quiet. Any other supporting mods?
@@properbuild9748 I have an nvidia down pipe and Cobb SF intake with stage 2 tune on the accessport. The intake is fine, it’s just the exhaust drone on the highway is annoying.
@@Randomguy86204 yea tbh if I had a down pipe I’d stick with Q300. I think stand-alone by itself it ain’t to bad. Regardless sounds like a nice setup 🤟🏾
Have you changed the exhaust out yet? I'm looking at the r400 but worried about done bc my stock has a drone to it
Q300 sounds the best!
I have the q300 (single exit) catback on my bugeye wrx and it's the best sleeper exhaust. Quiet when you want it to be to duck cops and avoid hype boys, and quite loud when you get on the gas. It even looks like it's supposed to be there like a factory exhaust besides it having a 4" tip lol
I already have the invidia down pipe paired with a stock midpipe and nameless delete.. I just bout these titanium tips r400.. even with a Down pipe it won’t be as loud as the nameless lol.. nameless is just yeah nice but it gets old pretty quick.. plus the bolts on my midpipe to nameless was rotted to shit so I need to stop all that rust and got these sweet looking r400..
Yea I ran a nameless before the invidia’s. Too damn loud
I have a 14 sti to a fellow subie pls check your oil.. I got to 109k miles and boom out of nowhere spun a rod smh.. 8k to get new rods and block smh.. good luck with yours man..
R400 This is it
Hello friend do you have a video with Q300 and downpipe?
Does the R400 have drone during highway driving? Cruising speeds? I cannot have drone as I commute daily
Drone is bearable, to say there is zero would be a lie but it isn’t bad relative to other exhausts on this car if you want very low drone go with Q300
Thank you for making the video
Thank you
Hey mate when changing from the Nameless to the Invidia exhausts did you have to get another tune or was it just a straight bolt on?
Hey, if cat-back exhaust is your only mod no tune required. So when switching no issues.
Hope that helps!
Hey , no tune required for catback. So no issues swapping
@@properbuild9748 ah no worries. Cheers man.
I currently have a turbo back exhaust and was wondering if changing from one 3" turbo back exhaust to another required another tune. I like mine but the invidia r400 full turbo back system sounds unreal
The I invidia R400 sounds really aggressive. Have you tried or gears the Ark Grip Exhaust? Stay safe brother.
I haven’t. Do you have that setup? Curious to hear
@ProperBuild No I have a 2020 STI with a muffler delete that sounds fantastic. I bought the car from Escondido Carmax in January this year with low miles. 9,421K. I had a base model WRX 2017.
R400 all day, us that stock downpipe?
Yea stock downpipe
Question I guess anyone in Ontario especially GTA.. How's the R400 lately with this blitz on cars with "excessive" noise?... Also great video, just what I was looking for!
Cody haven’t gone through one. It’s all officer discretion so who knows. Gotta pay to play lol
@@properbuild9748 Haha true statement! Thanks for the reply!!
Do you know if the mid pipe and Y piece are the same for both exhausts?
They looked identical to me. The mufflers were the biggest difference. You can see size difference in video.
Very complete comparison! Thanks
You have stock the downpipe?
Everything else it stock my friend. Thanks appreciate it!
How did u install the exhaust trim? I've tried using mounting tape but it leaves a little gap in between the trim and the bumper
Put self tapping screws underneath. Can’t see them unless your under the car
Hows the drone with the r400 on the highway or normal city driving?
Hey i don’t commute much driving over 55mph so I honestly cannot comment. No issues in the city tho.
Rya a ahh ok thank you!
The drone of R400 is loud. I use my STI for daily commuting. I purchased a R400 before and replaced it with the stock exhaust after 1000km drive.
Commuting on freeway at 70 to 80 mph, the r400 has too much drone for my liking. About to swap my r400 to a q300. I would like to hear my passengers on a road trip lol
Can you swap the axel back only?
Yes they are identical
I currently have the Q300 catback on my 11 wrx and im thinking of swapping to the r400, would I need to replace the entire catback system or could I just swap out the mufflers?
Mufflers work
Is the q300 louder than the stock setup?
Yes of course
will the r400 burn the bumper? looks really close
Seems close, I was thinking the same but no issues. I also have exhaust shrouds that go over the stock bumper so it makes it seem lower. I hate saggy exhausts as it doesn't look like a clean finish.
It does on track
Your video glitches when u do the q400 cold start u can’t hear it start
I did Grimmspeed intake and DP with R400 and pro tune. Sounds gnarly but it is intolerable at highway speeds. Can anyone speak to the q300 at highway speeds? I've spent $300 on sound insulating the trunk and it did basically nothing. I'm worried I may have to get it retuned if I swap to the q300.
q300 at highway was fine for me, ive had mine for 3 years and find it tolerable at 120km, 3000rpm.
@@roflcoppter117 good to hear! Thank you.
So I have a 2019 wrx base but would the r400 on a wrx base sound as loud?? I heard ppl say the q300 is too quiet?? If I wanted an aggressive tone something that isn't super loud on reg streets (the hwy I don't mind) is there something in btwn the q300 and r400 that anyone would recommend???
Hey man. Are you planning on any supporting mods like downpipe? Or just catback. If you go downpipe I’d stay with Q300.
@@properbuild9748 well I want to change the stock exhaust system entirely and get a new catback system
@@consistencyiskey84 R400 should be fine brother!
R400 has a better tone
✌️😁🙏 👌 great comparison video brotha! Between both right now 🤔 have the chance to pick up a used q300 with resonator deletes but told and this video to get an r400..🤔 haha now my big question is, since you had both on, which exhaust has more drone in the cabin with all windows up while driving city, backroads and highway my friend??
Thank you!
R400 has more drone. However if you get the Q300 with res delete it might be drony. Good luck!
