Decided to get back on overwatch this season. Plat DPS. The amount of times I get accused of smurfing or boosting is ridiculous, once every 5 games. 50+ elim games diffing the entire lobby by 10k+ damage and 15+ elims all to hardly win or sometimes even lose. Rarely do I ever run into someone and think “Hm, that’s a good player, I’m sure they’re good in other games.” Usually im genuinely curious if my teammates are playing with the sound off and a severe thumb disability because there’s no way a functioning person has such bad aim and awareness
its genuinely crazy to me how im in top 500 support yet i often see players that only know how to play mercy, moira and healbotting kiri while im here sweating my balls off on lucio
1. Tank is miserable. 2. Dps is cosmetic. 3. Support is brain-dead OP, and support players still find ways to make it look ridiculously weak, then cry for buffs. Aka SupportWatch.
I play hitscan mostly Soldier, Ashe, Cree and it's so unbearable to withstand i wanna cry. You need to do SO MUCH like 100% kill at least 2 ppl in a fight to make an impact it's painful. Meanwhile some shit like Illari can poke you for free, shitiriko can 120 your head for FREE, even fucking ana can poke you with a sniper. Hitscan DPS is the most cock and ball torture I've ever had in this game
i think the main thing that the design disparity between these roles does is create a rift between the type of players who play these roles. spilo made a good video on this a while back (are supports boosted?) and the passive, low aim nature of most supports attracts players who are risk averse or mechanically lacking. because in theory, if you force everyone to queue every role they should all roughly place the same rank on each role. but the reality is the average dps or tank player is probably more skilled (which is why they picked these difficult, high mechanic characters) while the average support player is less skilled and decided to fill to help their team out. since there are more bad players queuing support, you only have to be slightly better than them to climb, while on dps or tank you're going up against players who probably really care about improvement and take things seriously

The company is corrupted to the core. I have been saying this for a long time. The matchmaking and balancing team is single-handedly destroying the game, yet they are still not fired. It is really not that hard to find someone who knows how to do it better. There is definitely cronyism out there. I have switched to Marvel Rivals since it came out. I am much happier now.
God it's so true. I'm a DPS main, Tracer, and it's true that I generally know how to play the game more than tanks or supports in the lobby, but you literally can hardly do jack shit unless your tank and supports say "OKAY". Support is 100% braindead, like if I'm having a bad time on DPS, I can just lock support, pick Moira or Illari or whatever and just get FREE value for ZERO effort, and outperform every support I've had up until that point, it's madness. After 400+ hours on Tracer it's almost sunk-cost fallacy shit at this point, because why not pick a braindead character that can get free value after drooling on my keyboard smdh. DPS feels SOOOOO much better in 6v6 because tanks aren't completely unkillable and supports actually have some decisions to make, something to think about, idk. DPS is nothing but pain baby, and I'm a masochist
One person knowing how to play the game on your team does not translate to a win. Tank has the highest direct impact that way from my experience. DPS while I do not think it is strictly cosmetic it has the least impact overall, because of how important space control is and they are the worst at holding space due to lack of sustain and lower health pools. They are reliant on others to create space or sustain them in doing so and if neither happen it is usually gg. If you ever play with a tank who just feeds you know what I am talking about. While I do not think 6v6 is the godsend everyone thinks it is I think more evenly distributing space control is healthier for the game since it often means positional fights are often less one sided.
I find it crazy when i hear people say they like dps more in 5v5. Bro actually being able to kill tanks and not having to run away like it is dead by daylight feels way better. Genuinely dps feels so ass in 5v5 you feel like you cant target anyone. Enemy tank is offlimits unless they are feeding. If they have something like kiriko brig than you can really target them either and lets say they run dps tracer is kinda meh into like torb or reaper or something. You literally wont be able to make any proactive plays that game.
my peak on support was m5 in season 10. i started maining dps in s12 and i can confidently say that i am better now at dps than i ever was at support but my current rank is d2. i went from 50-55% winrates on my heroes (tracer/mei/genji) at the end of s13 to 60-80% on those same heroes at the start of s14 with the dps passive buff. i've barely touched ranked since the 6v6 test but to me this is proof enough that dps as a role matters the least out of the 3.
this is so true, i've been playing ow for about 6 months now, I main tracer and i'm currently plat, and I get get called a "smuft" at least 5 times already, this haven't happend in my 7 years of competitive gaming. I'm no meaning a great tracer player, but seeing so many support get bailed out using of their abilities despite having HORRIBLEEEEEE positioning (make you wonder how they even get here with that awareness) after you got the perfect flank is very unfun. You basically have to play for cooldown and not kill :(
Completely agree, I dont have much time to play anymore but I was GM1 by playing mccree/widow/ashe or sombra a couple seasons ago on console and this was exactly what I saw. Our supports were grandmaster but their other ranks were sometimes low diamond or plat. Now my tank was master and my support was diamond but i barely played those roles and stopped playing them once I hit placements. Overall man overwatch is such a fun game but my god the support balance is insanely dumb. Illari was one the supports that used to really piss me off, her damage output was and still is crazy.
Ive definitely noticed this. Dps requires the highest level of mechanics and they have the lowest survivability. so to be in the same rank you have to be better.
When I play Moira I consistently outperform most DPS in DMG and elims while also having the best heals in the lobby.. and I don't just pocket tanks. So now if I'm going to choose to play OW over Rivals it's for QP or Mystery.
This actually rings so tru to some degree, i generally can play any role to about the same skill degree minus certain aspects. *tanks cause im boosted on that role by playing things like zarya, dva, queen* but ive been told on multiple occasions that i should stop smurfing, receive hackuzations when i do play things like widow, and on occasion when i do meet a smurf whos playing with their friend that they thought i was a smurf as well. i cant expect my support to play at the proper skill level and ive come to terms with that since abt a year ago maybe more. id love to keep playing overwatch but at this rate theres almost no point..... also rivals is just a lot more fun even when solo queueing.... wow this comment is long oh well
For dps i would say its slightly different since there is also the disparity hitscan vs other dps tbh. Where the tracer/genji player look way better than the usual hitscan player
I just genuinely don't understand how the dev team do interviews and write blogs and promos with such enthusiasm. Like do they genuinely enjoy this mess? Do they simply not play it? Do they not care? Is it all an act? I realize smiling through your teeth is required in some professions, but as a seasoned software engineer, my experience is that most engineers take pride in their code and software and push for change internally when they sense something is wrong. Maybe not the chaps at Blizzard, I guess.
I've been coaching players for a number of years through every rank, myself. You are 100% correct. I can't even count the amount of times I coach a fucking talented Genji, Hanzo, or Junk player - and find out they're in fucking Plat. Yesterday, I coach a Plat 4 Hanzo player... With a fucking 23% seasonal average crit accuracy over 90 games. Yeah, sure, there are a few positional errors here and there, but nothing too crazy. My dude deserves better. There are so many DPS players who are easily 1-2 ranks lower than they should be, considering their skill. Flex DPS have been getting screwed up the ass since S9.
Support kits have so much self-survival that high skill-cieling DPS, and usually tanks, require WAY more discipline and CD management to stay alive, but on support you can often tp or fade out for free or waste CDs without being an isolated target. But as those support players rise in ranks they don't understand the pacing and CD usage required to properly pocket aggressive players, the amount of times I watch both supports sit on cart instead of even ONE taking space with the team in diamond lobbies is insane, I don't have to be in GM to want a team that can actually use their advantage and not sit and wait to get dove on.
As a former mercy main. I hate how they ruined the skill expression with movement. I agree support should be nerfed in general. It also would require dps to not expect support carry me here with heals. Tank needs to be brought down on the dmg they can do because they are not fucking damage.....

I’ve lost faith in their character design since moira tbh. I also remember the gigaboosted brig mains that went from gold to gm when she first came out which just made me lose trust in the competitive integrity of this game.
Yeah, this is mostly true, my support rank even as a zen one trick is very high on very low playtime. I think dps has a huge ult problem and I’d really like an overhaul to their ults. They don’t feel good or impact the ult fight outside of a few (emp bob overclock)

This game is unplayable as DPS unless you're playing certain DPS heroes. I pick Echo trying to flank a Kiriko I have to use all my cooldowns just to eliminate her. But she on the other hand can two shot me how in the hell can a support do more damage than a DPS that is just crazy.

The last time I played ranked was last season for 5 matches. The matchmaking was an absolute joke where I was solo carrying as illari against the dumbest enemies imaginable. And the last time before that was Season 1 where I got Bronze 5 and my brother for Gold 5 despite us playing the same role and just as well as each other winning every match. Ranked seems like an actual joke and doesn’t show your true rank. From what I remember from OW1 I was gold/plat (I know I was plat in tank not as sure about the others but gold or plat) in all roles so I’d assume I’m at least that rank if I played comp
Yes, absolutely, the matchmaking is so cooked. It feels like a cointoss half the time, or like it's tracking your skill in multiple separate ways and rating you as bronze 5 in one and plat 5 in another, and then it just tweaks tf out, has a meltdown and plops you in a bronze lobby with the worst teammates imaginable and expects your other rating of plat 5 to carry the entire team of goobers you've got against the enemy team that's "balanced" against your higher hidden value. Or something, I really don't know, I just know it's fucked The amount of work you have to put in sometimes just doesn't compute for the rank you're at, it's so fried The win streaks/loss streaks everyone experiences also don't make sense, and I know that people say "well if you carried in those games you would've won" and like, okay, sure, maybe I underperformed, but there's 5 players on this team, and me playing 10% under my max skill can't be the sole reason we're out here winning 5 games in a row and then losing 9 games in a row. Feels like an easy way to handwave that the matchmaking is actually fucked when people say that kind of thing. I'm just ranting at this point lmao

I have about 700 hours in quick play. About 40-50 comp. I started playing comp and got put in silver DPS after losing a lot of placement matches (I was doing fine). It is absolutely disgusting what I am doing to these silver players and still barely rank up.
This game became a shop for coomers to play dress up simulator with a frustrating side game attached that the devs can’t seem to understand and balance for over 8 years now. I swear Blizzard HQ is an echo chamber where they circlejerk and make themselves believe how great they are whilst coming up with a new recolor to put in the shop for extortionate prices. It’s so sad they fucked this game into the ground this hard.
If Ive found one truth about game and software devs is they will try their hardest to make the user experience worse without fail. Discord flops between getting better than worse. Whoever designs how Google search finds relevant results is insane. And obviously overwatch without fail will always have some sort of balance issue.
I’ve mained support since Ana came out in 2016 and I’m so disappointed to see what they’ve done with the role. When Overwatch 2 first came out I was hopeful because playing support had a lot more skill expression since you had to win at least somewhat honest duels. I actually had hope for the game for the first time in a long time. But the player base *hated* that and cried “it’s dead by daylight for supports! Support is too weak!” and of course the devs coddled them like the spoiled children they are
i just wanna say, as a Flex (more support and tank) since ow1, support has steadily power creeped since after ana. I think the worst has been bap until Kiri released. I know Brig was god awful but they brought her to a point to where you need to be very good with her to not blow up and have good up time on her heals. Bap is just consistantly out dps the dps while have crazy aoe heals, BURST HEALING WITH SUSTAIN ON TOP, AND IMMORTALITY. THEN THEY RELEASE KIRIKO. AND WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT BUFF TO MOIRA MAN, AS A SUPPORT PLAYER I SHOULDNT BE PISSED THAT I CANT KILL ANYTHING CUZ OF CONSTANT IMMORTALITY AND TANKS GOING TO FULL FROM 20 HP IN 2 SECONDS.
The support take is pretty accurate in terms of they don't have to do much and they still win but same actually goes if they lose. Depends on your character but support just has the least carry potential, for the high skill support characters the game is hell. My mains (Zen and Lucio) need high skill to extract value so I MUST overperform on my character to impact a game and climb ranks, if I just do average then my fate lies with my teammates and the enemy team which makes my win rate about 50/50. I think your observation is right but not for all the right reasons, for some support players the game is just luck and they don't even realize it, if I Mercy pocket someone and they stink my fate is sealed, this game isn't within my control because what else does mercy even do for my team besides heal?
@@GREED_EU in higher ranks what good do hero's like Mercy, Moira, and Illari do? None of them can carry a match with a bad team unlike an insane Winston or insane Echo could. I'm just naming off a few characters but for most of the designs for support all they do is support, I can't carry my team against an equal skill team by playing a character like Lifeweaver, I can heal and life grip but if my DPS and tank stink I lose. You are more at the mercy of your team as a support than any other role. Unless I over perform I will never carry my team as Zen, or Lucio, or Ana
@@Geozehf Dawg, what? Noland and ARX solo carry top 500 games on Moira constantly. Illari is the second best poke support in the game and is just a mccree on steroids. Lucio and Ana can ALSO hard carry every game they get into, check awkward, FDgod, ML7, Gale and such. Every support barring Mercy and weaver can full solo carry an entire game. Weaver has minimal carry potential but has a small amount, and mercy is just straight up a throw pick right now. So unless you're a Mercy 1 trick, then yeah, carrying on support is braindead easy.

I think you and almost the entire player base would agree that an underperforming support is way less impactful than a DPS who can't get a kill or a tank who feeds. Those roles simply impact the game more, as a support you can sit in your back line and not do much but you are just at the will of your team, if you do something like that as a tank or DPS you are throwing flat out. You should make a video about which characters would be the healthiest if they are meta. Maybe the devs could see which characters being strong could still be fun so we don’t have a widow or mauga situation and the “if they are having fun, no one else is.” Situation
I'm mainly DPS player. Can't for the life of mine get out of plat 4 on DPS. Picked support, hard locked illari and bap, easily got to diamond... Literally just better DPS heroes damage wise and sustain wise. And ults are better as well xD.
Its been a few months since i last played OW so (and even then i think i was ringing for a friends project) Last time i played ranked was probably in 2023 or something so im quite sure none of those replays are either relevant OR available anymore.... I have been saying that supports are boosted since like ******* 2019 or something... ofcource exceptions blaa blaa blaa. i was actually just typing about widow when you mentioned that shit. i think that we ALL should have realized this when they could not fix goats. (and i think its SO much worse now... well at least was when i last played and from what i have seen/heard it has not gotten better). I think the fact is that BEFORE GOATS there were comps that relied on like stacking 4 tanks (slambulance for example) but all these had counter play options you could do and worked more as a gimmick than anything else like yes you could force a counter swap from the enemy but after that you would generally lose a few fights and even after swapping you would lose 1 or 2 fights usually because of the ult economy. If you wanted the quote best jack of all trades almost master of all comp.... guess what that was 2-2-2 pre wh- I mean Brig. (again yes exceptions blaa blaa blaa and this was so long ago that i might be looking at that time through rose tinted glasses). now? imagine they removed role queue. would you see any DPSes? maybe a few widows every now and then but even that is doubtful since you would just have a permanent sigma shield in your face while your team dies to the tanks/supports. I loved overwatch back in the day and i stuck with the game for way too long. but OWs dev team is unfortunately terrible with balance and ideas on how to make fun and interactive. and unfortunately i swapped to tekken after quitting OW and at least i feel like these devs are trying, BUT there are some aspects that are very similar. AKA easy to do, hard to deal with type situations. Back when i still played a bit of OW. i felt that support was generally the simplest role. Of course never having played like mercy/bap/lifeweaver for example im lost on those chars. but the kit is quite simple and stacked so i always found them boring and well just never felt like investing ANY time on learning them, BUT that being said i played Brig in goats unfortunately as a flex dps (read genji player) and yes while Brig had some interesting things in goats specifically when you wanted to start to optimize outside of this (for example ALWAYS in ranked). Legitimately just AFK next to your other support and spam whipshots to proc inspire. And suddenly a lobotomized monkey could probably do it. Your other support takes care of your positioning (not that that requires too much thinking). if they have any scary damage just hold right click and look at them. or preferably stand behind a wall and try to safely keep activating inspire. That's all you have to do (in my experience at least) Out of curiosity how far off am i? again its been a while since i played so things might have changed. but thats how it always felt like to me. oh and ofcource support isnt a free win button. the enemy team has 2 of them as well. as for like the balance team. no matter the game and situation you cant ALWAYS hit the mark. like there will be mistakes of course. But to NEVER hit the mark is kind of an achievement on its own. even more so that you have 2 balance teams and BOTH are this horrible. lastly I think there is a chance its too late for overwatch already. Considering who is left in the game if they were to fix the game now. would the current playerbase just leave because "my braindead support who presses m1 to win the game got nerfed" and would the game be able to bring back the legacy players? hard to say. im kind of doubtful as they have fucked things up so badly. I atleast wont return. I might play some QP games at some point. maybe even a ranked match or 2 (i am missing like 5 achivements from it on steam) so i might look to grind those. But return to active play? nah that train left the station dropped me off at the port AND my ship sailed like months or YEARS ago.

Pehaps they should follow MR and put ban system if they cant balance the game. Sicne ow devs are gold players meanwhile MR devs are pretty high elo. since you bring up support so much let me give you a example of the best design of a support ever medic from tf2 he has slightly more hp and slightly more movement speed that most light classes and also has passive regen that ramps up over time his healing is single target and applies overheal, and ramps up if the patient hasn’t taken andy damage in 15 sec now for his uber he builds it like a ult but its only from healing and ither grants 8 sec invulnerability,300% damage+ no more fallof,350% healing and knockback immunity and vac is there so bow for the spicy part HE HAS NO MOVEMENT OR DAMAGE SO IF YOU GET OUT OF POSITION OR AMBUSHED you can only a:pray or b:surf a rocket so you also lose at least 45-75% hp in the process
I think it's just plausible that the people who's job it is to balance/design the game are driven to make certain decisions from higher-ups based on whatever the people in the data anyltics section of the company are telling the higher-ups they need to do to make more money. I think patches are so shit becuase for some reason the data collected on the game over the past years suggests it makes the most money
Only about two minutes in but I already have to disagree with the points made so far. In almost every one of my ranked games so far this season it's been the opposite. DPS have looked boosted (Literally have had at least 1 DPS per game going heavily negative, like 3 and 16), and it hasn't mattered on rank, has happened while I'm playing all three roles. Tank (which is around mid-high plat since I don't play it too often), DPS (which is around high plat-low diamond), and support (which is around high diamond-low masters). I have barely had an issue with feeling like any of my supports have been boosted, and have only felt that way about the DPS in my games (including the enemy DPS some games).
The stats tend to be meaningless. If a role is terrible it is less likely to have impact on the game. Thus stats tend to be lower for the weaver heroes/roles

I dont think Blizzard aka Team4 is clueless they just dont want to admit if they are wrong about anything .The thing is all the problems come from 5v5 as a format just not working and them just trying to hold on to it at any costs . Tanks have to be broken or they dont work . Supports got babyed so much they just cant handel not haveing the most op heros and most of them are also the biggest money spenders on top of that and becouse Blizzard know they for sure have the data how bad supports players actuly are they keep the role as strong as possibel to keep them playing and spend money on the next Mercy or Kiriko skins . Dps are just the role that is in the crossfire you cant give dps more power or Tanks get destroyed if no body plays tank q times go up by so much that its just death for the game and if supports complain that they just get destroyed by a dps if they do anything wrong its bad for skin sell and most of the player base is basicly know support players . Most dps player just went to support so they wont ever make dps a actuel role again as long as devs do bandate fixes to not have to admit any faults on them self its just the only real out come the way OW is right now
If they removed role queue it would be Maybe 1 dps getting played and it would be widow trying to get picks on the supports for the tanks to dive in or something. This is why open queue is great, it forces the devs to fix stuff, we should have never let the devs off the hook with brig.. tried playing a game today and just left after 5mins. this game has the most braindead players.. all they do is run it down over and over...and the devs balance around these bots. marvel rivals is 100% better.
I mean ya support is easier to play. Which is why I tends to be more fun. The trade off is nothing you do will win the game by itself. You could be a god healer with no deaths but as you said if your dps and tank are drooling morons. You lose
You are right but doesn't kill the enemy team. Your team is invulnerable in different ways though. If they then go on to kill the enemy team? Or bap and kiri out in damage with the team while they are invul or healed and the enemy team dies? That's also a factor

paladins created insanely WONDERFUL characters like evie, androxus, ruckus, vatu, koa, ash etc. they fixed the problem of snipers with just removing the ability to one shot (not counting nessa ult) and making flanks (which have very high skill floor and ceiling) very good. it had a chance to absolutely destroy ow 2 after pve cancellation but they ruined it with potato anti cheat, servers and TERRIBLE community management. its very sad seeing a very good game with huge ton of potential dying because developers just dont give a shit

Decided to get back on overwatch this season. Plat DPS. The amount of times I get accused of smurfing or boosting is ridiculous, once every 5 games. 50+ elim games diffing the entire lobby by 10k+ damage and 15+ elims all to hardly win or sometimes even lose.
Rarely do I ever run into someone and think “Hm, that’s a good player, I’m sure they’re good in other games.” Usually im genuinely curious if my teammates are playing with the sound off and a severe thumb disability because there’s no way a functioning person has such bad aim and awareness
its genuinely crazy to me how im in top 500 support yet i often see players that only know how to play mercy, moira and healbotting kiri while im here sweating my balls off on lucio
1. Tank is miserable.
2. Dps is cosmetic.
3. Support is brain-dead OP, and support players still find ways to make it look ridiculously weak, then cry for buffs.

I play hitscan mostly Soldier, Ashe, Cree and it's so unbearable to withstand i wanna cry. You need to do SO MUCH like 100% kill at least 2 ppl in a fight to make an impact it's painful. Meanwhile some shit like Illari can poke you for free, shitiriko can 120 your head for FREE, even fucking ana can poke you with a sniper.
Hitscan DPS is the most cock and ball torture I've ever had in this game
Support is actually very difficult you have to not position yourself in the ennemy spawn, press multiple buttons and look at the game
i think the main thing that the design disparity between these roles does is create a rift between the type of players who play these roles. spilo made a good video on this a while back (are supports boosted?) and the passive, low aim nature of most supports attracts players who are risk averse or mechanically lacking. because in theory, if you force everyone to queue every role they should all roughly place the same rank on each role. but the reality is the average dps or tank player is probably more skilled (which is why they picked these difficult, high mechanic characters) while the average support player is less skilled and decided to fill to help their team out. since there are more bad players queuing support, you only have to be slightly better than them to climb, while on dps or tank you're going up against players who probably really care about improvement and take things seriously

The company is corrupted to the core. I have been saying this for a long time. The matchmaking and balancing team is single-handedly destroying the game, yet they are still not fired. It is really not that hard to find someone who knows how to do it better. There is definitely cronyism out there.

God it's so true. I'm a DPS main, Tracer, and it's true that I generally know how to play the game more than tanks or supports in the lobby, but you literally can hardly do jack shit unless your tank and supports say "OKAY". Support is 100% braindead, like if I'm having a bad time on DPS, I can just lock support, pick Moira or Illari or whatever and just get FREE value for ZERO effort, and outperform every support I've had up until that point, it's madness.
After 400+ hours on Tracer it's almost sunk-cost fallacy shit at this point, because why not pick a braindead character that can get free value after drooling on my keyboard smdh. DPS feels SOOOOO much better in 6v6 because tanks aren't completely unkillable and supports actually have some decisions to make, something to think about, idk.

One person knowing how to play the game on your team does not translate to a win. Tank has the highest direct impact that way from my experience. DPS while I do not think it is strictly cosmetic it has the least impact overall, because of how important space control is and they are the worst at holding space due to lack of sustain and lower health pools. They are reliant on others to create space or sustain them in doing so and if neither happen it is usually gg.

While I do not think 6v6 is the godsend everyone thinks it is I think more evenly distributing space control is healthier for the game since it often means positional fights are often less one sided.
I find it crazy when i hear people say they like dps more in 5v5. Bro actually being able to kill tanks and not having to run away like it is dead by daylight feels way better.
Genuinely dps feels so ass in 5v5 you feel like you cant target anyone. Enemy tank is offlimits unless they are feeding. If they have something like kiriko brig than you can really target them either and lets say they run dps tracer is kinda meh into like torb or reaper or something. You literally wont be able to make any proactive plays that game.
my peak on support was m5 in season 10. i started maining dps in s12 and i can confidently say that i am better now at dps than i ever was at support but my current rank is d2. i went from 50-55% winrates on my heroes (tracer/mei/genji) at the end of s13 to 60-80% on those same heroes at the start of s14 with the dps passive buff. i've barely touched ranked since the 6v6 test but to me this is proof enough that dps as a role matters the least out of the 3.
this is so true, i've been playing ow for about 6 months now, I main tracer and i'm currently plat, and I get get called a "smuft" at least 5 times already, this haven't happend in my 7 years of competitive gaming. I'm no meaning a great tracer player, but seeing so many support get bailed out using of their abilities despite having HORRIBLEEEEEE positioning (make you wonder how they even get here with that awareness) after you got the perfect flank is very unfun. You basically have to play for cooldown and not kill :(

Completely agree, I dont have much time to play anymore but I was GM1 by playing mccree/widow/ashe or sombra a couple seasons ago on console and this was exactly what I saw. Our supports were grandmaster but their other ranks were sometimes low diamond or plat. Now my tank was master and my support was diamond but i barely played those roles and stopped playing them once I hit placements. Overall man overwatch is such a fun game but my god the support balance is insanely dumb. Illari was one the supports that used to really piss me off, her damage output was and still is crazy.
Ive definitely noticed this. Dps requires the highest level of mechanics and they have the lowest survivability. so to be in the same rank you have to be better.

When I play Moira I consistently outperform most DPS in DMG and elims while also having the best heals in the lobby.. and I don't just pocket tanks. So now if I'm going to choose to play OW over Rivals it's for QP or Mystery.

This actually rings so tru to some degree, i generally can play any role to about the same skill degree minus certain aspects. *tanks cause im boosted on that role by playing things like zarya, dva, queen* but ive been told on multiple occasions that i should stop smurfing, receive hackuzations when i do play things like widow, and on occasion when i do meet a smurf whos playing with their friend that they thought i was a smurf as well. i cant expect my support to play at the proper skill level and ive come to terms with that since abt a year ago maybe more. id love to keep playing overwatch but at this rate theres almost no point..... also rivals is just a lot more fun even when solo queueing.... wow this comment is long oh well
For dps i would say its slightly different since there is also the disparity hitscan vs other dps tbh. Where the tracer/genji player look way better than the usual hitscan player

I just genuinely don't understand how the dev team do interviews and write blogs and promos with such enthusiasm. Like do they genuinely enjoy this mess? Do they simply not play it? Do they not care? Is it all an act?
I realize smiling through your teeth is required in some professions, but as a seasoned software engineer, my experience is that most engineers take pride in their code and software and push for change internally when they sense something is wrong. Maybe not the chaps at Blizzard, I guess.

I can't even count the amount of times I coach a fucking talented Genji, Hanzo, or Junk player - and find out they're in fucking Plat.
Yesterday, I coach a Plat 4 Hanzo player... With a fucking 23% seasonal average crit accuracy over 90 games.

There are so many DPS players who are easily 1-2 ranks lower than they should be, considering their skill.

flex dps has all the hardest characters in the game like tracer genji echo pharah but you just get cucked by all these corny ass backline heros
Support kits have so much self-survival that high skill-cieling DPS, and usually tanks, require WAY more discipline and CD management to stay alive, but on support you can often tp or fade out for free or waste CDs without being an isolated target. But as those support players rise in ranks they don't understand the pacing and CD usage required to properly pocket aggressive players, the amount of times I watch both supports sit on cart instead of even ONE taking space with the team in diamond lobbies is insane, I don't have to be in GM to want a team that can actually use their advantage and not sit and wait to get dove on.
As a former mercy main. I hate how they ruined the skill expression with movement. I agree support should be nerfed in general. It also would require dps to not expect support carry me here with heals.
Tank needs to be brought down on the dmg they can do because they are not fucking damage.....

I’ve lost faith in their character design since moira tbh. I also remember the gigaboosted brig mains that went from gold to gm when she first came out which just made me lose trust in the competitive integrity of this game.

Yeah, this is mostly true, my support rank even as a zen one trick is very high on very low playtime. I think dps has a huge ult problem and I’d really like an overhaul to their ults. They don’t feel good or impact the ult fight outside of a few (emp bob overclock)

This game is unplayable as DPS unless you're playing certain DPS heroes. I pick Echo trying to flank a Kiriko I have to use all my cooldowns just to eliminate her. But she on the other hand can two shot me how in the hell can a support do more damage than a DPS that is just crazy.
I don’t see Blizzard bringing back 6v6, or doing anything to restore the integrity of matchmaking. That would make too much sense for the incompetent morons working at Team 4 now.

The last time I played ranked was last season for 5 matches. The matchmaking was an absolute joke where I was solo carrying as illari against the dumbest enemies imaginable. And the last time before that was Season 1 where I got Bronze 5 and my brother for Gold 5 despite us playing the same role and just as well as each other winning every match. Ranked seems like an actual joke and doesn’t show your true rank.
From what I remember from OW1 I was gold/plat (I know I was plat in tank not as sure about the others but gold or plat) in all roles so I’d assume I’m at least that rank if I played comp

Yes, absolutely, the matchmaking is so cooked. It feels like a cointoss half the time, or like it's tracking your skill in multiple separate ways and rating you as bronze 5 in one and plat 5 in another, and then it just tweaks tf out, has a meltdown and plops you in a bronze lobby with the worst teammates imaginable and expects your other rating of plat 5 to carry the entire team of goobers you've got against the enemy team that's "balanced" against your higher hidden value. Or something, I really don't know, I just know it's fucked

The win streaks/loss streaks everyone experiences also don't make sense, and I know that people say "well if you carried in those games you would've won" and like, okay, sure, maybe I underperformed, but there's 5 players on this team, and me playing 10% under my max skill can't be the sole reason we're out here winning 5 games in a row and then losing 9 games in a row. Feels like an easy way to handwave that the matchmaking is actually fucked when people say that kind of thing. I'm just ranting at this point lmao

I have about 700 hours in quick play. About 40-50 comp. I started playing comp and got put in silver DPS after losing a lot of placement matches (I was doing fine). It is absolutely disgusting what I am doing to these silver players and still barely rank up.
I happen to be the same rank for all 3 ranks.

This game became a shop for coomers to play dress up simulator with a frustrating side game attached that the devs can’t seem to understand and balance for over 8 years now. I swear Blizzard HQ is an echo chamber where they circlejerk and make themselves believe how great they are whilst coming up with a new recolor to put in the shop for extortionate prices. It’s so sad they fucked this game into the ground this hard.
If Ive found one truth about game and software devs is they will try their hardest to make the user experience worse without fail. Discord flops between getting better than worse. Whoever designs how Google search finds relevant results is insane. And obviously overwatch without fail will always have some sort of balance issue.

I’ve mained support since Ana came out in 2016 and I’m so disappointed to see what they’ve done with the role. When Overwatch 2 first came out I was hopeful because playing support had a lot more skill expression since you had to win at least somewhat honest duels. I actually had hope for the game for the first time in a long time. But the player base *hated* that and cried “it’s dead by daylight for supports! Support is too weak!” and of course the devs coddled them like the spoiled children they are

i just wanna say, as a Flex (more support and tank) since ow1, support has steadily power creeped since after ana. I think the worst has been bap until Kiri released. I know Brig was god awful but they brought her to a point to where you need to be very good with her to not blow up and have good up time on her heals. Bap is just consistantly out dps the dps while have crazy aoe heals, BURST HEALING WITH SUSTAIN ON TOP, AND IMMORTALITY. THEN THEY RELEASE KIRIKO. AND WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT BUFF TO MOIRA MAN, AS A SUPPORT PLAYER I SHOULDNT BE PISSED THAT I CANT KILL ANYTHING CUZ OF CONSTANT IMMORTALITY AND TANKS GOING TO FULL FROM 20 HP IN 2 SECONDS.
The support take is pretty accurate in terms of they don't have to do much and they still win but same actually goes if they lose. Depends on your character but support just has the least carry potential, for the high skill support characters the game is hell. My mains (Zen and Lucio) need high skill to extract value so I MUST overperform on my character to impact a game and climb ranks, if I just do average then my fate lies with my teammates and the enemy team which makes my win rate about 50/50. I think your observation is right but not for all the right reasons, for some support players the game is just luck and they don't even realize it, if I Mercy pocket someone and they stink my fate is sealed, this game isn't within my control because what else does mercy even do for my team besides heal?

@@GREED_EU in higher ranks what good do hero's like Mercy, Moira, and Illari do? None of them can carry a match with a bad team unlike an insane Winston or insane Echo could. I'm just naming off a few characters but for most of the designs for support all they do is support, I can't carry my team against an equal skill team by playing a character like Lifeweaver, I can heal and life grip but if my DPS and tank stink I lose. You are more at the mercy of your team as a support than any other role. Unless I over perform I will never carry my team as Zen, or Lucio, or Ana
@@Geozehf Dawg, what? Noland and ARX solo carry top 500 games on Moira constantly. Illari is the second best poke support in the game and is just a mccree on steroids. Lucio and Ana can ALSO hard carry every game they get into, check awkward, FDgod, ML7, Gale and such. Every support barring Mercy and weaver can full solo carry an entire game. Weaver has minimal carry potential but has a small amount, and mercy is just straight up a throw pick right now. So unless you're a Mercy 1 trick, then yeah, carrying on support is braindead easy.

Those roles simply impact the game more, as a support you can sit in your back line and not do much but you are just at the will of your team, if you do something like that as a tank or DPS you are throwing flat out. I'm mainly DPS player. Can't for the life of mine get out of plat 4 on DPS. Picked support, hard locked illari and bap, easily got to diamond... Literally just better DPS heroes damage wise and sustain wise. And ults are better as well xD.
I thought this was me since im a hard stuck master 3 ana main, so i played solider for half a season and got master 5. I figured I’m fairly balanced.
Its been a few months since i last played OW so (and even then i think i was ringing for a friends project) Last time i played ranked was probably in 2023 or something so im quite sure none of those replays are either relevant OR available anymore....

i think that we ALL should have realized this when they could not fix goats. (and i think its SO much worse now... well at least was when i last played and from what i have seen/heard it has not gotten better).
I think the fact is that BEFORE GOATS there were comps that relied on like stacking 4 tanks (slambulance for example) but all these had counter play options you could do and worked more as a gimmick than anything else like yes you could force a counter swap from the enemy but after that you would generally lose a few fights and even after swapping you would lose 1 or 2 fights usually because of the ult economy. If you wanted the quote best jack of all trades almost master of all comp.... guess what that was 2-2-2 pre wh- I mean Brig. (again yes exceptions blaa blaa blaa and this was so long ago that i might be looking at that time through rose tinted glasses).
now? imagine they removed role queue. would you see any DPSes? maybe a few widows every now and then but even that is doubtful since you would just have a permanent sigma shield in your face while your team dies to the tanks/supports.
I loved overwatch back in the day and i stuck with the game for way too long. but OWs dev team is unfortunately terrible with balance and ideas on how to make fun and interactive. and unfortunately i swapped to tekken after quitting OW and at least i feel like these devs are trying, BUT there are some aspects that are very similar. AKA easy to do, hard to deal with type situations.
Back when i still played a bit of OW. i felt that support was generally the simplest role. Of course never having played like mercy/bap/lifeweaver for example im lost on those chars. but the kit is quite simple and stacked so i always found them boring and well just never felt like investing ANY time on learning them, BUT that being said i played Brig in goats unfortunately as a flex dps (read genji player) and yes while Brig had some interesting things in goats specifically when you wanted to start to optimize outside of this (for example ALWAYS in ranked). Legitimately just AFK next to your other support and spam whipshots to proc inspire. And suddenly a lobotomized monkey could probably do it. Your other support takes care of your positioning (not that that requires too much thinking). if they have any scary damage just hold right click and look at them. or preferably stand behind a wall and try to safely keep activating inspire. That's all you have to do (in my experience at least)
Out of curiosity how far off am i? again its been a while since i played so things might have changed. but thats how it always felt like to me.
oh and ofcource support isnt a free win button. the enemy team has 2 of them as well.
as for like the balance team. no matter the game and situation you cant ALWAYS hit the mark. like there will be mistakes of course. But to NEVER hit the mark is kind of an achievement on its own. even more so that you have 2 balance teams and BOTH are this horrible.
lastly I think there is a chance its too late for overwatch already. Considering who is left in the game if they were to fix the game now. would the current playerbase just leave because "my braindead support who presses m1 to win the game got nerfed" and would the game be able to bring back the legacy players? hard to say. im kind of doubtful as they have fucked things up so badly. I atleast wont return. I might play some QP games at some point. maybe even a ranked match or 2 (i am missing like 5 achivements from it on steam) so i might look to grind those. But return to active play? nah that train left the station dropped me off at the port AND my ship sailed like months or YEARS ago.

I earn more rank per win on roles I play less overall. Quickplay mmr heavily biases my ranked progress.
Meanwhile Alec Dawson is getting reassigned to continue beating the corpse and Aaron Keller is moving 6v6 to arcade mode instead to ranked mode. Pehaps they should follow MR and put ban system if they cant balance the game. Sicne ow devs are gold players meanwhile MR devs are pretty high elo. They were good enough to give Necros hard time lol.

since you bring up support so much let me give you a example of the best design of a support ever medic from tf2
he has slightly more hp and slightly more movement speed that most light classes and also has passive regen that ramps up over time
his healing is single target and applies overheal, and ramps up if the patient hasn’t taken andy damage in 15 sec now for his uber he builds it like a ult but its only from healing and ither grants 8 sec invulnerability,300% damage+ no more fallof,350% healing and knockback immunity and vac is there
so bow for the spicy part HE HAS NO MOVEMENT OR DAMAGE SO IF YOU GET OUT OF POSITION OR AMBUSHED you can only a:pray
or b:surf a rocket so you also lose at least 45-75% hp in the process
I think it's just plausible that the people who's job it is to balance/design the game are driven to make certain decisions from higher-ups based on whatever the people in the data anyltics section of the company are telling the higher-ups they need to do to make more money. I think patches are so shit becuase for some reason the data collected on the game over the past years suggests it makes the most money

Support players wouldn't last a minute as medic in TF2
Only about two minutes in but I already have to disagree with the points made so far. In almost every one of my ranked games so far this season it's been the opposite. DPS have looked boosted (Literally have had at least 1 DPS per game going heavily negative, like 3 and 16), and it hasn't mattered on rank, has happened while I'm playing all three roles. Tank (which is around mid-high plat since I don't play it too often), DPS (which is around high plat-low diamond), and support (which is around high diamond-low masters). I have barely had an issue with feeling like any of my supports have been boosted, and have only felt that way about the DPS in my games (including the enemy DPS some games).
The stats tend to be meaningless. If a role is terrible it is less likely to have impact on the game. Thus stats tend to be lower for the weaver heroes/roles

Supports got babyed so much they just cant handel not haveing the most op heros and most of them are also the biggest money spenders on top of that and becouse Blizzard know they for sure have the data how bad supports players actuly are they keep the role as strong as possibel to keep them playing and spend money on the next Mercy or Kiriko skins . Dps are just the role that is in the crossfire you cant give dps more power or Tanks get destroyed if no body plays tank q times go up by so much that its just death for the game and if supports complain that they just get destroyed by a dps if they do anything wrong its bad for skin sell and most of the player base is basicly know support players . Most dps player just went to support so they wont ever make dps a actuel role again as long as devs do bandate fixes to not have to admit any faults on them self its just the only real out come the way OW is right now

If they removed role queue it would be Maybe 1 dps getting played and it would be widow trying to get picks on the supports for the tanks to dive in or something.
This is why open queue is great, it forces the devs to fix stuff, we should have never let the devs off the hook with brig.. I hear people say brig is fine now... and I wanna like break stuff around me 😂

Also the mr devs said they have a goal to eventually have the game feel balanced, and I think it's possible, so just wait and see what they do in the future because the patch they just dropped was honestly pretty legendary, imo it had everything I wanted and stuff I didn't even realise I wanted, still think storm was slept on and over buffed abit but people gotta learn their lesson on why a group dmg buff hero needs to be situational and maybe see the value in the team dmg boost with lucio boost so they quit begging on storm players, but I would be curious to know why you think its currently so out of balance because personally I feel as long as I end my loses knowing I could have done better, I feel a hero shooter is pretty balanced, and I feel that in mr while I don't in ow and haven't inna long time, just feels like how you explained it in the video lol
tried playing a game today and just left after 5mins. this game has the most braindead players.. all they do is run it down over and over...and the devs balance around these bots. marvel rivals is 100% better.

I mean ya support is easier to play. Which is why I tends to be more fun. The trade off is nothing you do will win the game by itself. You could be a god healer with no deaths but as you said if your dps and tank are drooling morons. You lose

You are right but doesn't kill the enemy team. Your team is invulnerable in different ways though. If they then go on to kill the enemy team? Or bap and kiri out in damage with the team while they are invul or healed and the enemy team dies?

paladins created insanely WONDERFUL characters like evie, androxus, ruckus, vatu, koa, ash etc. they fixed the problem of snipers with just removing the ability to one shot (not counting nessa ult) and making flanks (which have very high skill floor and ceiling) very good. it had a chance to absolutely destroy ow 2 after pve cancellation but they ruined it with potato anti cheat, servers and TERRIBLE community management. its very sad seeing a very good game with huge ton of potential dying because developers just dont give a shit

My idea for repair that is, make a system for analyzing stats and reports and if see u are dogshit put in a ranks w bots and give minimum points.
