Really enjoyed working on the video with you Joe, absolutely fantastic job. You are both so natural behind the camera and gave a really detailed insight to two very superb cars. The overall finish to the video too was top notch!
Good to see these two Head2Head. Nice that Alpina have differentiated the B4S to its M Rival twin too. Great video mate, lots and lots of work put into this 🙌🏽.
AWESOME VIDEO JOE Incredible cinematography fantastic presenting and excellent driving. I wish Grand Tour had more videos like this. You and baby gorilla are great together. All those hours seriously paid off. Well done!! Fair play for getting those two cars together!!
Really enjoyed this one Joe! Was great to see these two up against each other and I'm sure they were fun on those roads too. They are so different but both aiming for the same sort of idea so is interesting to see the two takes Alpina and BMW have. Great camera work from Nick and Graham too, can really see the work that's gone into this one, keep it up!
Awesome Joe! That hard work paid off, top quality video. Was great being involved and the cars were amazing, I really do like the Alpina, such a nice semi-sleeper.
Yes, Graham and Nick did help, this was an awesome video. The visuals you all got and the comparisons etc that you and Aaron deliver were great... This was almost as good as the Petrolheads Alps movie. Praise indeed
Well done. Beautiful cinematography and i like the summary and conclusion. Early in the video I was thinking this isn't much of a review/comparison but as I kept watching, the video got better and better. Thumbs up!!
videography, landscape, cars, people - everything on point 👌 congratulation to this awesome video mate! I can't find words for how much I love this content
Worth the wait!! Great video and down to earth as usual. Sigh of relief that you didn't quite put (this older guy) off the M4 like I thought you might!
As an owner of a B4 and having test driven an M4 prior to purchase (neither the latest versions) I totally agree with your conclusions. Unless you live by a race track, the B4 is a much easier car to live with day to day, particularly on UK roads. It is also far more fuel efficient than an M4 when you are not going for it.
BEST VIDEO YET!! Great work from all involved, more content with Aaron please! And definitely more third party videography for those artsy drone shots etc. Shame it wasn't 1hour long...
Great review from both of you! It looked very professional, so much so I half expected Chris Harris to make an appearance. I think too many people that buy an M4 overlook the Alpina. Joe you said near the end that the M4 apeals more to the young person.... Well I'm 26 and I would seriously consider that B4 S.
totally agree with the chris harris comparison, I can say without doubt both chris harris and yourself are my favourite reviewers and when you consider how many great reviewers are out there it really is a compliment, keep up the great work joe it's appreciatec
Damn Joe! Your videos keep getting better mate! I loved this comparo since it’s the same animal in different outfits. One’s a track monster the other one is a sober grand tourer that performs. Amazing footage and great location. Keep it up!
Really nice video Joe, was away when you published this and the internet on the continent wouldn't let me watching in anything other than one big blur so I waited. So glad I did... Awesome video and some lovely cinematography. Interestingly I'm one of the young people who would actually pick the Alpina. Just love Alpina's, always have and I've only ever been in one, but the exclusivity they bring vs the ten a penny m4, Alpina all day!
The first video I saw of yours was you sitting in your parked car talking to a single camera about fuel economy and storage space. A couple of years later you're matching anything Chris Harris has put out, great stuff!
Fantastic video mate! Super interesting to see both these cars head to head, and I think i agree with all the points you have made! I probably would be one of the few young people to go for the B4S.. Great driving, cinematography and editing! ;)
Another awesome video Joe. Been waiting in anticipation for this since your Birthday M4 teaser. Well worth it! Probably your best video to date for cinematography. Credit also to Aaron, Nick and Graham. Getting close to that professional 'Top Gear' look on a budget! As you'd expect from me, siding on the Alpina bench and totally agree with you and Aaron on the comparison. Only thing missing for me would be some discussion on the DCT vs ZF gearboxes in there cars. Never been a fan of the DCT and pleased BMW are finally fitting the ZF in the new M5. Keep up the excellent work mate ;-)
Cheers man really glad you liked it! Yeah I'm gutted I forgot to chat about the gearboxes and many other bits... I was a little stressed out on the day and just forgot :-( But yeah the ZF is a better box, hence the new M5 going that way. Cheers
Jesus he was hardly thrashing it though was he? The guy had spent a lot of time and effort to do the review. By all accounts the car hadn't even been sold at the time. Imagine every owner asked for old road tests of their cars to be taken down!
Cheers James! Yeah I got the call about that M140 the morning of this test, hence being well behaved (off camera) in the M4. Moral of the story is, all demos have a hard life, that particular M140 was always warmed up and treated well compared to many others. This issue has certainly made me re think TH-cam, deleting a video that essentially took me 3 days to produce is a real kick in the guts.
Joe Achilles The whole situation baffles me Joe, don't get it at all. As for it devaluing the car........?!?! Hope he got it at a knockdown price! Where does this leave you for future videos?
Joe Achilles - The Alpina will never be sold with that plate on anyway! B-) Don't see what all of the fuss is about. These cars are designed and built to be driven hard at times. If someone buys a second hand sports car thinking it's never been 'driven' then more fool them!
The Alpina for me every day of the week...and I'm only 24 (I could be old before my time 😂). That's the best video to date, and big shout out to the guys who helped you with it. Genuinely I think I speak for everyone when I say that was a professional quality video that you'd expect from established motoring magazines...Brilliant. Can't wait for the next one. If I may make a suggestion, get the e92 B3 Bi-Turbo in for a review as my budget won't stretch to £65k 😭
Pretty sure I saw this Alpina today in Suffolk, said to the Mrs I recognized that number plate but couldn't place it at the time ! Brilliant video as always by the way !! 👍🏻
Wow my guess of the Alpina B4 was spot on from your previous birthday video haha Great video and love the film location - that hairpin looks familiar from Chris Harris' videos 👌
Very enjoyable video, up there with your epic interview with Herr Bovensiepen. I love Alpinas, although my B3 is of the E46 generation but once you acquire the taste (says he with an M140 on order - many thanks for all your videos on those Joe!)
Thans for posting this very nice video, lots of hard work to produce such nice content well done! If I may I believe when you swapped cars, the audio in the Alpina sounds like several tracks of voice are running (maybe from a couple of cameras) but it's not quite lined up so is ever so slightly delayed resulting in a slight bathroom kind of sound. Again though great video sorry if the audio thing has already been mentioned.
Great work, great video once again Joe. Thank you very much.. Would it be possible to get more content and feedback (engine, interior quality, pricing, handling) on the B4S ??? I'm considering one someday down the road.. thanks again man
Awesome work! I sold my M4 last year and I am pretty sure I'll be going for an Alpina next! Do you know if you can pick and customise the suspension, steering and throttle setting in the Alpina like you can in the M4?
Cheers Maz! You don't have quite the level of settings as the M cars, but you can adjust the suspension and steering like in regular adaptive equipped 4 series BMW's
Very high quality video - 2 very different cars - but I think you are right - if you want the M4 image you would even consider the Alpina - if you actually wanted the more rounded car - you'd buy the Alpina.
No brainer for me. Same; if not more power performance, about the same money, better interior, better for everyday use, and more exclusive in the states........Alpina!
Nice one Joe. I think you got it spot on. Have days when I wish the M3 was a bit less thuggish (partly my own fault with my mods) but then coming back to it after driving another car, can't help but smile. Never ceases to amaze how Alpina manage to tune stock dampers so well when BMW can't.
No, the m4 is just sporty which every car brand offers. No sunroof, all black exterior trim, black basic seats and interior trim. Nothing special about the M4, Alpina fixed that! B4 has individual color options in every way, comfortable daily-driving suspension, tuned and refined 440 engine not your basic M4 I6, annnd they’re made at 1/100 the pace so way more rare. B4 is more “special” but m4 is sportier for sure
Love them both..
M4 is a vodka red bull , the B4 is a Espresso martini .. Both get you drunk and make you smile... I know that I would have haha !
Hahaha so true Mike, great analogy of the cars :-)
Really enjoyed working on the video with you Joe, absolutely fantastic job. You are both so natural behind the camera and gave a really detailed insight to two very superb cars. The overall finish to the video too was top notch!
Mate thanks soooo much for coming along and helping to make this video possible, that drone shot at the start is the catalyst for the entire video :-)
Joe Achilles absolute pleasure mate, really enjoyed the shoot and look forward to the next one 😉
Good to see these two Head2Head. Nice that Alpina have differentiated the B4S to its M Rival twin too.
Great video mate, lots and lots of work put into this 🙌🏽.
Thanks buddy glad you enjoyed it! Looking forward to seeing your B4 S video soon ;-)
AWESOME VIDEO JOE Incredible cinematography fantastic presenting and excellent driving. I wish Grand Tour had more videos like this. You and baby gorilla are great together. All those hours seriously paid off. Well done!! Fair play for getting those two cars together!!
Cheers Stephen! Yeah it took lots of combined effort and a fair amount of cast to make this happen, it was worth it though :-)
Nicely documented view of the two car's.....great cinematography from Mr Fox.
Cheers man, yeah Mr Fox killed it!
Joe Achilles guys stop it, you're making me blush ☺️🤣
Really enjoyed this one Joe! Was great to see these two up against each other and I'm sure they were fun on those roads too. They are so different but both aiming for the same sort of idea so is interesting to see the two takes Alpina and BMW have. Great camera work from Nick and Graham too, can really see the work that's gone into this one, keep it up!
Cheers buddy, yeah great day and loads of combined hard work all paid off :-)
Awesome Joe! That hard work paid off, top quality video. Was great being involved and the cars were amazing, I really do like the Alpina, such a nice semi-sleeper.
Thanks to you guys this video was made possible, really moved the level on with this one :-)
Yes, Graham and Nick did help, this was an awesome video. The visuals you all got and the comparisons etc that you and Aaron deliver were great... This was almost as good as the Petrolheads Alps movie. Praise indeed
Cheers man glad you enjoyed the production :-)
Everything was spot on... raising the bar!
Wow, a super vid, Joe! Aaron, as always, a splendid 'wingman'. Also well done to Nick & Graham with some awesome camera work. Great stuff
Cheers man, yeah I had a killer team with me for this one :-)
Well done. Beautiful cinematography and i like the summary and conclusion. Early in the video I was thinking this isn't much of a review/comparison but as I kept watching, the video got better and better. Thumbs up!!
More Alpinas please. Great vid! Maybe the new B3? Or B5? I have ordered one but need to wait till next year September due to Lavalina waiting line.
Wicked vid joe, well worth the wait 👍🏾👍🏾
Cheers you legend, glad you liked it!
Seen a lot of your videos.I don't know how I missed this one.For me,by far your best work.I thoroughly enjoyed it.Well done!!!
videography, landscape, cars, people - everything on point 👌 congratulation to this awesome video mate! I can't find words for how much I love this content
Thank you :-) Very nice of you to say & glad you liked it!
Great review man ! Great shots and editing ! Was waiting for that video eagerly since you pre announced it :)
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Two very special cars, thank you for this very informative and nicely done video! Entertaining yet serious and chilled. Thank you!
Worth the wait!! Great video and down to earth as usual. Sigh of relief that you didn't quite put (this older guy) off the M4 like I thought you might!
Haha Cheers man! Yeah the latest M4 CP really is an incredible car, on track or smooth roads (like this one) it is MEGA.
Cheers John, great hearing that from an actual B4 owner :-)
Joe that is next level filming! This looks like a multi-million dollar production!
GroovyMotion now that's a bit too much but yea it is great filming.
Cheers man, sure cost me a few quid but not quite millions ;-)
Not only did I get the 140 off the back of your videos but now I really want a B3 touring as you've shown me how great the Alpinas are.
Haha
BEST VIDEO YET!! Great work from all involved, more content with Aaron please! And definitely more third party videography for those artsy drone shots etc. Shame it wasn't 1hour long...
Cheers Brad glad you liked it!
Great video Joe, very professional. I am left wanting more content because I couldn't decide which one i liked the most. Thank you for sharing.
Haha Cheers buddy, you can just watch again ;-)
Great review from both of you! It looked very professional, so much so I half expected Chris Harris to make an appearance. I think too many people that buy an M4 overlook the Alpina. Joe you said near the end that the M4 apeals more to the young person.... Well I'm 26 and I would seriously consider that B4 S.
Haha Thanks Alex, best compliment ever! Also good to hear a 26 year old would consider the B4 S :-)
The m4 is just a wolf up front, you can expect the aggression and intimidation. That b4 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. It’s a sleeper
totally agree with the chris harris comparison, I can say without doubt both chris harris and yourself are my favourite reviewers and when you consider how many great reviewers are out there it really is a compliment, keep up the great work joe it's appreciatec
Epic review video, all the effort you've put in shows. Let's hope the manufacturers wake up and start letting you review their cars.
Cheers Colin, lets hope so haha
Just love Alpina's, always have and I've only ever been in one, but the exclusivity they bring vs the ten a penny m4, Alpina all day!
Damn, I'm not really a BMW fan but your great reviews and analysis of the cars is starting to make me want one.
+Luke Smith How are you finding the M135i so far?
+Luke Smith Thanks man! Looking forward to it :)
Haha thats awesome to hear Byron and Luke, thanks for showing me so much support!
+Luke Smith Thank you very much man! Nice to hear that you are enjoying it:)
Excellent stuff Joe. One of your best so far.
Cheers Shane
The first video I saw of yours was you sitting in your parked car talking to a single camera about fuel economy and storage space. A couple of years later you're matching anything Chris Harris has put out, great stuff!
Haha yeah even I can admit I've come a long way, still miles off Harris though ;-) Cheers man
I kind of envy your job Joe. You get to drive, test & review all these awesome cars. You're one hell of a lucky guy. Bless you dude.
Class as always Joe, I look forward to your next instalment!
Thanks Lee
The hills are alive to the the sound of straight sixes. Nice!
Fantastic video mate! Super interesting to see both these cars head to head, and I think i agree with all the points you have made! I probably would be one of the few young people to go for the B4S.. Great driving, cinematography and editing! ;)
Thanks buddy means a lot! Yeah you know very well the magic that ALPINA produces, cant wait for you to try a B3/4 S ;-)
Joe Achilles Me too!
Your best video ever Joe !! These two cars are fantastic. Can't wait to see you behind the wheel of the coming CS and CSL ;)
Cheers Ben :- ) Lets see if BMW UK invite me....
Amazing video Joe! Great cars and great people! Brilliant filming too!
Cheers Lewis glad you liked it!
BMW M vs Alpina is a tricky thing. Thx for this epic cool review and twin shot. They truly are unequal twins....
Another awesome video Joe. Been waiting in anticipation for this since your Birthday M4 teaser. Well worth it! Probably your best video to date for cinematography. I have just watched this for the second time and what a fantastic episode well done Sir 👍
Top class Joe, from you and Aaron! Credit to those guys for their cinematography, really made the video! Keep it up :)
Thanks man, yeah credit to the whole team on this one :-)
Looking forward to seeing what you produce next - slowly converting me from VAGs to BMs haha
enjoyed this, I would love an alpina. Think I would get the B3 estate
Cheers man! Yeah the B3 S Touring would be my choice too!
Only watched 40 secs so far and already paused to comment, that tailslide...lovely footage with the drone view also.
Haha Cheers Pablo, hope you enjoyed the other 18 mins 21 seconds ;-)
Damn Joe, your video production has gotten to a really high level, this is brilliant!
I'd take the Alpina!
Cheers man, this one broke my balls haha
Great video Joe, lovely shots. You and Aaron should do a one hour special top gear style challenge one day!
Cheers Billy, thats a good idea!
Nice work again Joe, effortless! I hope whoever buys either car is not a dick and asks for this video to be taken down. Keep up the great work👏👏
Jesus he was hardly thrashing it though was he? The guy had spent a lot of time and effort to do the review. By all accounts the car hadn't even been sold at the time. Imagine every owner asked for old road tests of their cars to be taken down!

Top review Joe. That B4s is so special, brilliant production too👌🏼 class act. 👍🏼
Thanks buddy glad you enjoyed it! Hope you're well
Joe Achilles Great thanks, roll on the next meet 👍🏼👍🏼
Great video! Nice collaboration, good driving, lovely shots and wonderful cars.
Cheers
Once again this is a fantastic video with a serious quality production! Keep it on Joe, amazing work! 👌👍😉
Cheers man!
Love your videos Joe. Thanks for this one. Your product is getting better and better.
Thanks for supporting me and watching my stuff!
Excellent video, guys - very stylish, professional and informative. Gotta love these BMWs as well. My m240i is just 4 weeks away!
Cheers man! Bet you're excited about your 240 :-)
Good stuff as always, Joe. Congrats!
Thank you :-)
Awesome review Joe, can see the efforts put in.
Cheers man
The Alpina for me every day of the week...and I'm only 24 (I could be old before my time 😂).

Pretty sure I saw this Alpina today in Suffolk, said to the Mrs I recognized that number plate but couldn't place it at the time !
Brilliant video as always by the way !! 👍🏻
Yeah was more than likely this press car, only one green B4 S in the UK, also very distinctive plates as you say. Glad you liked the video :-)
Wow my guess of the Alpina B4 was spot on from your previous birthday video haha
Great video and love the film location - that hairpin looks familiar from Chris Harris' videos 👌
Haha yeah you guessed right! And yeah this is genuine CH countryside
Love B4 interior
Awesome video Joe, thoroughly enjoying your output. Keep up the great work.
Cheers Marc :-)
Another amazing video, keep up the good work Joe!
Cheers Robert!
Fantastic review, production and great double act too!
Cheers Ben
Many thanx Joe&others, very nice video! I just LOVE Alpina & BMW....
Thanks for watching :-)
Very enjoyable video, up there with your epic interview with Herr Bovensiepen. I love Alpinas, although my B3 is of the E46 generation but once you acquire the taste (says he with an M140 on order - many thanks for all your videos on those Joe!)
Another great video mate, love the Alpina
Cheers man!
Thans for posting this very nice video, lots of hard work to produce such nice content well done! Again though great video sorry if the audio thing has already been mentioned.
Reckon this could end up being one of your most successful videos. I'm properly falling for the Alpina brand.
Cheers Chris, lets hope so, bloody took ages to edit haha
I wish we got more than just the B6 and B7 in the States.
Great review....M4 all the way for me 👍
Great work, great video once again Joe. Thank you very much.. Would it be possible to get more content and feedback (engine, interior quality, pricing, handling) on the B4S ??? I'm considering one someday down the road.. thanks again man
Cheers! Yeah I shot a separate individual B4 S video that will be edited soon
They look so graceful !
Give that drone pilot a medal. Awesome videography!
LegitHockeyKid69 thank you sir 👍🏻
Haha yeah it really sets the video off :-)
The B4's output must be seriously underrated. It would not surprise me if it has 400 HP to the wheels.
Excellent video. I'd have the Alpina in a heartbeat, but maybe in stealth spec, without the stripes.
Cheers Jason, yeah me too!
Them roads 🔥 and fuck me Joe the editing is out of this world 😳 love the opening clip on the hairpin bend and getting the arse end out sideways.
Thanks buddy glad you enjoyed it :-)
I totally agree with your choice Joe. A brilliant way to combine style and speed! Beautiful video btw! Thanks.
Cheers Soren glad you liked it!
Hi Joe I wish I had your job but I would find it hard to give the cars back especially the M4GTS absolutely adore the car
Unfortunately this isn't my job, just a VERY expensive hobby. I have only driven the GTS on track for 5 mins
Id take the Alpina, just because it's that tiny bit more special
I would have 100% gotten a B4 over my M4 if it were available in the USA. Aplina's ooze refinement
Yeah shame you guys only get the B6 and B7
Yet again another simply mega video!
Cheers man
name of the instrumental at the beginning please!!
Fantastic!! Thanks for another great video Joe, cheers!
Some really lovely camera work.
Had no idea Alpina made a B4... what a beautiful piece of machinery 😍😍😍😍
Yeah awesome machine!
Mega video Joe! Mega filming work & top marks on the road choice 💪 Loving Aaron's glasses 😎😂
Haha Cheers buddy glad you liked it! Hopefully see you soon bro
Definitely, be good to do some filming with you 💪
Your videos are becoming PROFESSIONAL bro ;)
Cheers man
That was a proper car show version 😉. Nice one Joe.
Cheers Andy :-)
Super Video!
Really nice one and top cars!
I think the B3 Touring would be the perfect choice for you!
Love my B3
Yeah B3 S Touring = Dream Car :-)
Let me know when you are oneday in Switzerland=)
Very high quality video - 2 very different cars - but I think you are right - if you want the M4 image you would even consider the Alpina - if you actually wanted the more rounded car - you'd buy the Alpina.
Totally! Cheers James
As much as i adore the 4 series platform, i'd still rather have an M3 or an Apbina B3 S
Me too, both look better than the 4 equivalent and both are more practical :-)
No brainer for me. Same; if not more power performance, about the same money, better interior, better for everyday use, and more exclusive in the states........Alpina!
Nice one Joe. I think you got it spot on. Have days when I wish the M3 was a bit less thuggish (partly my own fault with my mods) but then coming back to it after driving another car, can't help but smile. Never ceases to amaze how Alpina manage to tune stock dampers so well when BMW can't.
Cheers man! Haha yeah I have no idea how they do it, transforms the regular 4 series.
Amazing content and filming!
Hi Joe, I'm unsure if you've said and I've missed it but is this in Brecon?
Just as much of a good watch the second time around by the way!
Wow great production Joe. Seriously impressive. Both fantastic cars but I'll have the Alpina thanks.
Cheers Wade glad you liked it mate! You must be one of my longest term supporters, thank you man!
Cool video Joe, good work. 👍
Fantastic video! I Always look forward to your content!
Cheers Ryan
For the money, the M4 looks a bit more special, both inside and out.
Yeah thats what I said in the video
No, the m4 is just sporty which every car brand offers. No sunroof, all black exterior trim, black basic seats and interior trim. Nothing special about the M4, Alpina fixed that! B4 has individual color options in every way, comfortable daily-driving suspension, tuned and refined 440 engine not your basic M4 I6, annnd they’re made at 1/100 the pace so way more rare. B4 is more “special” but m4 is sportier for sure
Great video guys. What’s the music?
Cheers! Music was take from Epidemic sound
Great cars yes but look at that scenery and those cool shots!
Lovely roads, they look familiar too. Anyone know where in england this is?
Black Mountains Wales
Great video mate top production! 👍🏻
Thanks James
