You Already 🤘🏾
Want to say ,thank chef stu you help me alot with my confusion, and your clarify it all for me
You're truly welcome
Ive seen alot of videos about Piney Point, and ive even talked to mariners.. but non them have laid it out as clear and accurate as you have. Cheers!
Wow!!! That means a lot to me thanks a million. I'm happy I can help
Thank you, I'm trying to get out of the medical field, just needed a new career. I'm a traveling Phlebotomist so I don't mind being gone.
Have you started the process?
very helpful thank you
Hey lovie!
My names Lexi , I’m a 20 year old female fresh out of a 2 year college with an associates. I have a report date of October 24th I’ll be going for deck. I have a million questions about being a female in the program…. Anyway it’s so nice to have you to watch!
Congratulations!! How you liking it so far? Def hit me up
Awesome video, straight forward and easy to understand... I'm excited and hopeful to start my own journey toward attending SIU and getting into the galley department...
Again, mahalo for your time and information... Aloha from Hawaii!!!
Aloha ☺️!!! Thank you for watching . Soon as you start the better.
Sup brada u went to the s.i.u in hawaii
No braddah I just got my TWIC, Passport and USCG medical certificate... I just waiting on my MMC...
But yes, I hoping to jump on SIU... How bout you Hawaiian? You in SIU?
@@seankaleiopu7258 no I was jus watching the video and was kind of interesting. I saw your comment you was from Hawaii just wanted to get some info
Braddah you get Facebook? I graduated from a program who pays for everything... I like reach out to you if can, give you killah info... I'm number 12 of my Ohana who works on ship's!!!
Love how real and simple you kept this video Fam. I heard about becoming SIU and the merchant marine job right when the pandemic dropped and I was about to leave the airline industry. Was in Miami and easily got my port card but never used it. Got an opportunity to move out to the west coast via suggestion of a friend and now my mind is moving back to this career. Time to stop playing and set myself up for the future. Do you think I’d have to move back then complete the process or that I could do it out here from Cali?
Gratitude, that means a lot to me. The west coast has two unions halls which is amazing. I think this would be a great Opportunity for you to get started with this path fam. I’m not sure about maritime training in California but if you wanted to come thro SIU def start your process with the school in Maryland. What department you looking at?? I was told the Engine department starts back in February
Hi. Did you ever get started? How's it going?
Hey! I appreciate the information you have given! When you say you complete the classes at Piney Point do you have to go home until you wait for your ship assignment or can you wait there? Also once you receive a ship assignment are you not being paid until after your upgrade?
I’m headed to Piney Point at the beginning of April and this video was a major help! Thanks a ton.
I did have one question though, do you have to have your MMC book before you go to Piney Point? Or do you just have to have your application and fee submitted? Thanks again
Congratulations to you April right around the corner / how are you feeling about everything?? Also I had mine before attending the school
Thank you
Very welcome
wait so when you said they don’t always have an entry program? could you go more in depth. I took culinary in high school and work in the food industry. I’m familiar with cooking and food safety and all that stuff. But I would want to come in as entry level. Do I just give it a try or do you have to work as chief or something?
Thank you for advice about the one stop center. Do you know if they can cover for plane ticket to the apprenticeship school ?
No problem, Maybe they can just ask them. That would be awesome
Great Video but I do have a Question about One Stop for step two as far as them paying for your documents do they cut you a check for example if you need help with getting your MMC do they pay for it and you apply or how does that process work again great video and good luck on your journey
Thanks a lot!! Very easy for you man . Once you go to the place and apply , and everything goes through on their end. They will cut you a check. After you receive that check. You will take it to the hall and they will do the rest for you.
@@stuthesailor even with the Dental part of it or are you on your own with that part
@@FromTheDeepSoil yes!!
Using government money for school or apprenticeships ISN’T A HANDOUT. We all pay taxes. A lot of taxes, right? THIS is why we pay it. So USE THE MONEY IF YOU GOTTA. Doesn’t make you less of a person. You paid taxes so these programs exist
Most definitely thank you!! Your right 🙂
Engine department is back starting in February 2022
This is awesome !!!
Can we go straight to SIU without sea experience? If so, what are the steps?
when u paid the user fee what did u put , i’m a entry level and that’s the last thing i need to send my documents to the rec center
Do you make any money before getting on a ship? I cant imagine not making money for how ever many months. ive heard it can be weeks or months after class is over before they find you a ship to work on.
None!! barely at the school unfortunately you get $25 a week.’y advice will always be to plan accordingly before joining. Or just become a CCARD. I have the video on myoage called why not to join
How does shore leave work for the galley dept?
You are free to leave after work ( 1830) or a lil earlier depending on that day. And free to come back any time before your work starts !! But that depends on how long your vessel is in port for. Some times it’s a quick turn around so u won’t be able to explore as much, other times you might be lucky to stay in port for up to two weeks ..
Hey Stu my name is Trae and I’m interested in being a merchant marine I am a former CDL driver looking for something new as for trucking was not for me. Now it does say on the SIU site that the training is free how true is this if you could get back to me regarding this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and sail on
Where's the info link for the program process
If I have bills like $450 a month how much do u think I have to save or will I make enough in school
I’ll be honest, if you’re depending on just income from the school you won’t make enough. I would save money and handle personal bills before hand.
Once you're in the apprenticeship program, when do you receive a paycheck? Do you recommend saving a few months of income prior to enrollment? Thanks for Everything ❤️
You will receive your first real paycheck when you go to your first vessel. I highly recommend saving before you start school and taking care of your bills too
@@stuthesailor thank you! Looks like my mindset is on the right track. Take care out there!

@@mkeener3 you got this!!!

Hi, how many letters of recommendation do you need ?
Probably changed I think 3
Are you still sailing?
Hey exactly how do I find the government funding cause I been looking for 3 days and found nothing for Texas
Good morning, unfortunately I’m not knowledgeable about the exact information you will need in Texas. I will try to do my own research and see what I find and keep you posted!
@@stuthesailor wow thank you so much cause I'm in step 2 right now and have desperately been looking for funding , hopefully one of us can find something cause I'll keep searching here too , thanks again
@@antwarior congratulations!! And you’re welcome
So I live in Texas now and have used this same method to complete a Information Technology class on their dime. It's called Texas Workforce! Subscribe to my channel 😊
Hello im out of state USA I wanna academy accept students out of state plz help
So I have to have a clean criminal record?
I’m 34 years old if I go in will I be a old man there ?
Absolutely not !!! 😩🤣🤣 I will see all ages out here. You’re making a great choice
what was on the math test?
Basic math. Fractions, add, sub, multiplication etc
at what point do you need to go for your physical and drug test?
Step 2
How long did it take to receive acceptance letter?
Joining the apprentice program, will it be a requirement to cut your dreads ? 😬
Yes unfortunately, especially Men. When I went through my program us females wasn’t ask to cut our hair. We had to keep it off our shoulders and wear a hat all day. I chose to cut my locs off (😩😭) only because it was something new and I was was working with food. I now have them reattach. Hahaha so if you want to do the same you should consider it. When you all set and done with your training. You can be your own person when coming back as an upgrader!!! No one really cares. Thanks for watching !
@@stuthesailor I’m a female and they are definitely mid back length so that would be tough 😬 sacrifices, sacrifices lol Thanks for all the amazing info looking forward to your upcoming vids !
@@jaydreadd4917 YOU GOT THIS!!!! Mid back I’ll say a nice phony or bun so your hat can fit at least!! Or a nice nature style to a low bun not them buns that sit on top of your head 🤣🤣🤣😩 ( forgive me now , I play all day) I’m currently editing the next one right now, eyes low hahaha it’s 10:24 pm here in Germany got to wake up super early for galley work. Hahaha Thank you again!! And yes talk to you soon and good luck to you sea sister 🌊 ⚓️
How long did it take you to start school ?
5 months ! wished i would of started sooner ya know
@@stuthesailor I know the feeling I taken me 8 months due to life stuff
@@FaithSLopez sounds about right
How much are you paying in union fees?
I have long dreads, will I have to cut them?
If you go to the school yes u will brother
@@stuthesailor Thanks sis, I just subbed. Wish you the best on your journey. I think I might just make the sacrifice, they are a part of me, but I don't have much and never had anything and want this really bad. I'm sure the money is better if you go to the school vs not attending. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of classes do you take while at the program?
@@B1ack_Manta appreciate you!! Wishing you the same ! If you really want it cut your hair off and save them and when you all done reattach them when u become an upgrader!!! It’s only hair you will be just fine.
I cut mine off before starting the program even tho females don’t have to I just wanted a fresh start . I later reattach them no I’m back to my braids all in 5 years 🤣🤣🤣
As far as the classes go to the website ( it’s in my description) and all your classes be be u der the class tab. Very easy information to comprehend at the school the biggest thing is to build your mind up and have patience with a lot of bullshit.
@@stuthesailor Fasho fasho!!! Well played, didn't even think about reattaching them. You are very welcome! And thank you! Even by some chance I don't make it, I'm still here to see you grow. Love seeing folks succeed at what they love doing.
@@B1ack_Manta awwwwww Thank you and the same to you as well!!!! You got this 🙂
