Haters are going to love this video I'm sure 😂 I know you guys were looking forward to seeing the R run at the dunes and I feel like a let down. Parts are on the way and I will be torture testing the R soon after to make sure it doesn't overheat again. Next trip is to Little Sahara! Thanks for watching my video and I love all you guys... even the haters.
I ran my Yamaha blaster completely out of gas on a full pull one time, I forgot to open the gas up, the engine was a little locked up to, I just pushed a little harder until it gave and the quad still ran super strong after that.
Won't hurt then too much unless you're being a dingus and trying to shred them. Justin's sand stars are tanks and could damn near survive a rip in the woods.
Thanks for the featuring my 250r man glad to see it out there. And shit happens on the dunes it’s just the name of the game. Btw my 250r was the red one with the bills pipe. 🤙🏼
Silver lake is such a amazing place. Fun for the whole family. Glad you made it in and out safely. It gets crazy out there bro. Can’t wait to see all the BANSHEES!! ALL MY BANSHEE RIDERS MIX GAS AND HAUL ASS!
Thats why i went 4 stroke. Renegade 1000. Plows my driveway all winter and spanks most stuff at the drag strip..push button start. Had an esr built 363 ..nice bike. But tired of all the crap that goes with it. Now i roll up to a gas pump and fill it up lol. I love it.
This is not the proper way to load, looks like a pain in the butt. It's a 250r, just use a normal truck with a pair of ramps, the freaking thing weighs nothing.
That crane unload was ridiculous. Off center and against the plastics in the rear and then bouncing and dragging that beautiful quad against the truck.
i bought my daughter a trx 90. i watched ur build videos and was amazed. i am officially addicted to the BRAAAAP!!!! and that quad you built makes freaking smile. SOOOOOOOOO COOL DUDE..

The sand moves around so much it’s insane. Great post! Hope y’all have been back in the past 2 yrs! Enjoyed it! Thanx for sharing. Brings back a lot of great memories 💯🤙🏼🤟🏼🤘🏼
I was the guy that rode the Honda 450R with factory HRC kit. I didn't win all the races with my buddies but I never towed mine. Custom bikes are sick. When they work
Same thing happened to my quadzilla 2 weeks ago, lost compression and found the Wiseco piston shrunk in the bore. Piston to wall clearance was double the spec. Ordered a new wossner piston and am gonna go another size up. Shit happens, if you’re not breaking it you’re not riding hard enough.
I always wanted to go here but it’s on the other side of the country for me! It’s at least a 1000 miles to the nearest sand of any kind! I’m in the middle of Appalachia coal country we have hills and mud galore but no sand! But I have rode in about every other environment but never sand dunes! Hence the reason I always wanted to go here!
Nice to see a NACS racing bike still floating around proudly. NACS used to be big on the racing scene, cover shots and featured rides in dirt wheels magazine, and their shop was in my home town. Used to ride my bicycle about 5 1/2 miles to the shop and ride home with blaster parts and maintenance items hanging off my handles bars or stuffed into a backpack. Been a while since I’ve seen that graphics kit
Man last October the exact same thing happened to my 310r at silver lake. I know how it feels. I had it jetted too lean. You have to fatten up the main in the dunes.
Was just there this past July took a 85 yamaha triz and first 20 min locked up the engine. So I know ure feeling on it is what it is... incredible place we're going again next yr!
Oh man, after all that work, I feel bad for you dude. Still really enjoyed watching the build no matter what. Hopefully you get it figured out soon, its a great looking atv.
I always bring my bike in my truck on the sand, that when when my bike brakes I can still drive to the beach, food truck, parking lot etc whenever I want lol If it's gonna break, it'll break at the dunes
Sand is definitely a different experience. Tons of fun. They must have relaxed their rules, I saw them check for spark arrestors, but they were crawling all over our bikes with Db meters and we had stock exhaust back in 2003.
Take the time and come to Glamis....its crazier than anyone could describe! HUUUUUGE hills! You could ride all day and never need to cross anywhere you've already been...seriously!

Just a tip. Air down some on the banshee and you definitely need to gear it down a couple teeth. Having to much air in the tires will Make spin like he's doing.
Appreciate the compliment. You'd be surprised how many don't like the combo because it reflects the suzuki colors... they never watched Jeremiah Jones or Bill Ballance in the early 2000's I guess. 🤷♂️
Had a similar experience with my cr125. Just rebuilt did heat cycles and ride a little bit when down a dirt road for a bit and than locked up 3 days after I rebuilt top end and had bike down to frame. And cleaned everything and put back together. Was so mad about that due to it being only 3 days ahah but yeah can’t wait to see the trx back up and Rippen!
(Had the yellow plastic/blue frame laeger there) Hopefully you aren't reading much into these comments because the false info is overflowing.. considering 80% of the machines there were on a keihn carb I can assure you switching to a lectron wouldn't necessarily save it. A poorly setup lectron is just as bad.. I watched it first hand.
No worries Mike, the Quad looks and sound awesome! This has happened to me many times on my "R". In my experience with dune riding and MX racing with a high compression rebuild motor, I give it a longer breakin time and all my motors were built by Arlen. Looking forward to your next video, hang in there Mike!
Great video man!! Thank you for sharing this experience. You took me back to when I was 15 and my father bought me a completely new Yamaha Warrior 350!! Oh... and chin up, most people can't say they build an atv and now we'll get a REPAIR VIDEO!! Hahaa KEEP IT UP!!
It was nice meeting you Mike, you’re definitely a super cool dude. Sucks that your R was out of commission I was looking forward to running you at the drags and hitting the hills with ya dude. You’ll have to get the R back right again and come back and get the full effect of the dunes.
wow what a bummer dude. you handled it better than i would have lol great footage non the less. imo being from Michigan and riding here my whole life basically, its all about the trails, not so much the dunes. we have the best trails any state could ask for. great video still.
I'm a trail man myself and I hear the trails out there sound awesome! Thanks for the positivity dude; it seems like the viewers are more upset than I am lol
Keep your chin up Mike. If anybody riding 250r's says they have never blown up a motor they are not taking them out of the garage. I've blown up more than I'd like to admit. When in the sand its a lot of load and heat on the motor. Got to keep it on the rich side. Pistons are cheap so learning isn't to expensive. 😉
@Dj Mystery It may have been warming up but it had more to do with the soft sand that adds extra load that the jetting wasn't set up for. Should have been one jet bigger on the main and trimmed out with needle clip height.
Michael Sabo, Do you think it could be from the radiator guard you put on. It may have blocked to much air flow. The jetting didnt seem that far off, even when the temps where at 250, the engine didnt seem to hang due to being lean. My money is on to restrictive air flow to the radiator.
I feel your pain. Been there, done that. I know guys like to ride in the sand, but man that shit robs power. I’ll stick to the hard, packed terrain. Good luck Sabo. Get back on that horse. 😊
Used you code on full flight to get free brake lines with my new pro series a arms for my flat track build. Thanks for the code hook up. Saved me $100 bucks
Sweet build man. Been watching for a little bit. Well dude, if it makes you feel any better, I only got 14 hrs on a completely refreshed 2001 Raptor 660R after a 3 months of building and crashed it last week - breaking my collarbone into two pieces. 6-12 weeks healing time....like you said in the video “it is what it is” no sense being upset it’s part of the sport.
Dude, just my opinion but i like the setup on smartcarbs because you can shut the bike down, put the throttle wide open and turn the dial on top to adjust by clicks, right for rich, left for lean! Also they come with a TPS as an option for applicable stuff!
Worst possible scenario... 2 stroke life claims another top end in the dunes!! Im sure you weren’t the only one to pop your motor out there brother!! RACE REBUILD REPEAT!! Show some love to the suzuki’s next time!! Seen that yellow n blue cruising around throughout portions of the footage.. my little 88 LT250R still scares me if I give it the beans in a sketchy trail!! Best therapy EVER!! Keep doing what your doing brother 💪
Sorry this happened to u Michael I still believe this is one of the best builds I've ever seen and hope to see an amazing come back keep up the good work
Mike I love your TRX 250R... I always wanted one, but the closest I ever came to owning one was a 1986 ATC 250R. Sorry to hear about what happened with your bike on the first day. Hopefully DBC Racing and Yourself can take a look at the top end and get it fixed really easy... Have fun at the Dunes Bro...
Lean is mean, till it spills its cookies... No doubt you'll get it figured out. Trial and error, and a little bit of money. It happens, been there. Only good part about it is we get to see more 250r videos.👍
You can never, i repeat never take a fresh engine build into the dunes as the sand will stress the motor till it melts down, beleave me been there done that. You must fully break in the motor before going to the dunes. Sorry to hear that your sweet build had problems. Been a dune-a-tic at Silver Lake since 1970 and run ATV's here since 1984
That's a shame but it still looks like you had a good time. What a strange coincidence that you were talking about lectron carbs and how the don't have jets right before the carb problems began. Great video Mike, glad to see you tell it like it is.
Mike I cant stress enough .. You gotta bring that set of paddles and make the long ass Drive to St. Anthony.. You won't regret it. That place is nothing more than a cool hangout on a glorified Beach..
Aww man I am sooo jealous!! That’s my fav place to go and this was the first year in a long time didn’t go cause of all the corona bs. Looks busier than ever though. You gotta take the Banshee up test hill while u are there.
I was just watching this video and recognized all your quads then looked at the date and realized I was there that weekend. I spotted my white jeep to the right at 9:55 lol I was drag racing with some of you guys on my 450 as well. Your quads are bad ass I couldn't keep up lol
Dude I feel the same way with my 350x as you do with your 250r. I took my 350x in to get the top end rebuilt. A week after I got it she dropped a valve 🤣. After I rebuilt that, the new project is gonna be a fresh transmission as of about a month ago.
You should look into a inline temp gauge for the rad hose and yes sir definitely look into a lectron carb I’ve heard nothing but good things about them man keep up the awesome builds long live the mighty Honda trx250r
Nah, the red R in the front row had them on there and never got stuck once the whole weekend. Im guessing they had too much air in them on the banshee.
DonkeyEvo different rider. I’ve ran sand stars before and had the same issue. My LTR was getting buried all the time just from coming to a stop. I actually found that putting more air in them gave me better traction on sand oddly enough. Now I only run skats
It's amazing how much power sand takes away from the motor ,just to get going u prolly use twice the gas. U notice when u let off the throttle and don't roll but stop lol. I've never been to real dunes like that. Sucks about the 250 but at least u had other machines and wasn't a total loss. Thanks for the video brother. You did a superb job with the quad though.
I feel the pain. I went out to California a few years back and I could never get my R jetted correctly out there. I could only pull 2nd and 3rd sometimes on straight aways. Was hitting 200+ degrees a few times as well. Just had to basically watch everyone else have fun lol.
Good sh$% man hope you enjoyed the dunes, props for staying positive. Always sucks to break down and even more so when you put your heart and soul into a project. We know you'll get that thing up and running again in no time tho!
Brother it was a small mishap on the 250R I know it sucks driving all that way for the 250R meet small tweaks on the break inn it is a bad ass fresh build with nothing more than some idle break ends its bound to happen if you aint breaking shit you ain't riding no matter how many hun dows you throw at something the Blue Shee was pingin and pangin love the channel and what your doing attention to detail!! The ol 250R will be back up and running better than ever before you know it!!
Glad you had a great time at silver lake. I live in muskegon and been there a lot. Great times there. Was sorry see it blow up but my brother blew up his cr250 up there years ago but like you said things happen. Hope you can make it back up again sometime.
Next time you go to the dunes you should try letting air out of your tires, it will give you so much more traction it will feel like a totally different ride!
Had this happen to my Rm125 I was putting around too long and built up carbon ontop the piston and it broke loose and got stuck in the cylinder locking it up. I kicked it really hard and it broke loose and started. I took it apart cleaned it and never had problem again.
Don't fret over the blown motor. I've been riding and building dirt bikes and quads since the mid 90's and shit happens. There will always be a TON of bugs to work out on a build of that scope. Get her running again, take your time working out the bugs and getting it dialed in, and then the haters can drool over that badass 250R!
You'll figure out that 250R. I'll look forward to the Diagnosis. Check your air pressure on your paddle tires. I run 4 psi in the dunes. I've run a bunch of paddle tires. I prefer a 22" Skat Trak 8-paddle Extreme on 8" dia. wheels on my 4 mil Banshee. If you end up going to the dunes enough to justify the cost. Sand Stars are OK. They are good if you like to slide, side hill, cookies, ect. Skats with a lot of side-wall hook way better for the drags. After seeing the fun your having, I'll bet you'll make it a regular thing!
Haters are going to love this video I'm sure 😂 I know you guys were looking forward to seeing the R run at the dunes and I feel like a let down. I ran my Yamaha blaster completely out of gas on a full pull one time, I forgot to open the gas up, the engine was a little locked up to, I just pushed a little harder until it gave and the quad still ran super strong after that.

You should look into a inline temp gauge for the rad hose and yes sir definitely look into a lectron carb I’ve heard nothing but good things about them man keep up the awesome builds long live the mighty Honda trx250r
really damage and I hope it was nothing serious, but what a great place, great video as you usually do. can't wait to see part 2
fyi those sand stars are what is making you get stuck... Nice set of skat traks and you'd be floating over the sand
I was there that weekend. Great video and sorry for your problem with the motor.
Great recap! I'm glad i got to hang with you out there. Next year will be even better when both our Rs are running.
Bryan Sharbowski You know it. 2021!!
My dude I like your videos there fun to watch
I feel the pain. I went out to California a few years back and I could never get my R jetted correctly out there. I could only pull 2nd and 3rd sometimes on straight aways. Was hitting 200+ degrees a few times as well. Just had to basically watch everyone else have fun lol.
Good sh$% man hope you enjoyed the dunes, props for staying positive. Always sucks to break down and even more so when you put your heart and soul into a project. We know you'll get that thing up and running again in no time tho!
If you air down more you wont get stuck. I ride the Oregon dunes all the time. Its has a lot bigger dunes and narrow tree shot hill climbs.
Just found your channel. One of the NICEST 250R's I have ever seen!!!
Thank you for watching and for the compliment man!
@@MichaelSabo Just got myself a KTM 450 XC. Watching your videos really makes me want to start making my own. Keep making badass content brotha!
Props to keeping your spirit i'll probably cry if my bike locks up like that after a rebuild :D
Bro! You got to meet me out in Glamis!
Great video and Awesome build. Shit happens, I just can't wait for the breakdown and resurrection on the 309r. Keep up the awesome content !!!
Had this happen to my Rm125 I was putting around too long and built up carbon ontop the piston and it broke loose and got stuck in the cylinder locking it up. I kicked it really hard and it broke loose and started. I took it apart cleaned it and never had problem again.
Riding in the sand if I’m taking off slow I start in second gear, seems to do the trick 👌
Couldn’t wait for this vid🤘
Don't fret over the blown motor. I've been riding and building dirt bikes and quads since the mid 90's and shit happens. There will always be a TON of bugs to work out on a build of that scope. Get her running again, take your time working out the bugs and getting it dialed in, and then the haters can drool over that badass 250R!
Dude finally a banshee video! 😎
Now he has to build a quad Zila
That banshee is sick doe
Sounds like that banshee runs pretty damn good
Yea, the banshee ran great!
Lugging it down the whole time just puttin around is hard on a 2 stroke bro. You know that . F in around trying to find that group
